At least we're getting the old Gears of War back with E-Day, a prequel to the original trilogy when Epic was still in charge of the franchise, before The Coalition and the new Kait Diaz trilogy came along. It takes place 14 years before the events of the original 2006 Gears of War game. It would have been better if we had gotten a Marcus Fenix Collection with the original games remastered.
I was hoping for a Gears of War 2-Judgment re-release anouncememt (since I own a PC and not an Xbox), but I’m really happy about E-Day, personally I think they realized that the new direction they were pushing the series towards to, didn’t work out the way they believed it would.
I wish JD stayed as the main character, even he was 100x more interesting than Kate and I really wanted to learn more about him. He's literally the son of the 2 best characters in the entire series he had so much potential, instead they give it to the goddamn locust queens granddaughter. They should have made her the antagonist by the end of gears 5 so not liking her would end up making sense
Why the hell didn't they just make a prequel trilogy. Hell you can still use marcus if they wanted to. But doing the sequels first was a bad move. Gears 4 is like the force awakens and hears 5 is the last jedi
The original gears of war trilogy , especially the first installment, obviously, were the dark, gritty and horrific games that we all loved. Now you have these same dark, gritty and horrific characters jumping around in multiplayer with rainbow skins and candy ass emotes and whatnot. It’s just fuckin pathetic. The people that are in charge of these ideas in games these days are just so fucking dissociated from reality it’s unbelievable

Yes but the gears of war lore extends way WAY beyond the first 3 games. There could have been spin off games after gears 3 exploring the locust-lambent war, pendelum war, beginning of the locust war and more. But I do agree that there shouldn't be more stories after Gears 3, Gears 3 should be the end of the locust human war or the war to end all wars as I like to put it.
I want to see more stories based around the Onyx Guard or just different squads in general. I have no interest in The Swarm or whatever NoName brand locust they come up with. Just give us more stories from within the Locust War. I think a story not unlike Halo Reach would do really well in the Gears universe. A suicide mission that contributes to the overall goal that was 3's inevitable end.
OK hear me out; A story set leading to the end of Gears 3. A story which feels like Reach/Suicide Squad. Mixed in with James Vegas story from Mass Effect, where the survivor realises everything done was for naught. That all their work, all their moments of grandeur is undone, when they just had to wait.
While 4 isn’t on par with original trilogy it’s still a solid gears. For me it had the one of the best horde modes not as good as 3 but still very good. But gears 5 completely shifted direction and is not gears of war at all here’s hoping gears 6 at least reverses some of the damage done to the franchise.
The beginning part of the video made me realize how badly they try to make the Cog look bad. Remember the Stranded? They hated the cog for forcing them to join what could basically described as a losing battle, as well as seeing the destruction of the Hammer of Dawn, and how it killed millions and millions of lives? I hate how in 5, they go "Omg! Fascists!"

Honestly making more gears of war games isn’t so much of a bad idea in my opinion but I’d prefer spin off games hell even movies of this brand. like Raam’s shadow and judgment. Just want that horror vibe and grey filter back in like the OG trilogy had.

My big two issues about the game (storywise) is how they had forced conflict between JD, Fahz and the others only for it to just resolve in the Vasgar act, like Fahz becomes a totally different charaxter and JD goes back to his GoW4 self leading me to believe thet just wanted them out of the picture for half the story. The other thing was the open world acts, they were fun don't get me wrong but if you remove them for the story this Gears game is the shortest by far in the story. By far I felt the strongest acts were the first and last because of this fact as well as their pacing
Finally i've been saying this about JD for soooo lonnggg. Like everyone hates JD for no reason, He's a soldier and soldiers gotta make judgement calls at times so shiting on him for trying to save everyone is so stupid.
To be honest, he's the best written of the new trio, imo. Not sure if the writers are so bad that trying to make a character unlikeable actually makes me more sympathetic to them, or there's a decent writer just doing as they're told, but by actually giving JD flaws and shattering that naive cockiness he's had since 4 made me like him as a character. His actions have consequences that he himself (and everyone around him) acknowledge. Unlike Kait. Even when Kait acknowledges how badly waking up Reyna affects humanity, Del's like "It's not your fault". JD made a panicked decision in an impossible situation and likely saved more lives than if he hadn't given the order to open fire on the rioters. Same with settlement 2. I'd argue all of them would have been wiped out by the Swarm, had he not played hammer bait. He obviously distanced himself from the others due to guilt and shame, especially given the condemnation and disgust in Del and Kait's eyes when Faz blurted the truth out. Having gone through all of that and began to repair his friendships, only to lose Del as he does will really force JD to mature and harden as a character. He's earned the role of the main protagonist in my opinion, unlike Kait. She's never held accountable for her actions and she's a lot more selfish than other characters, who have put the good of others before their own desires time and time again. Marcus defies orders and costs humanity a key battle and is sentenced to life imprisonment (only avoiding being shot because of Prescot's deal with Adam). Baird defies orders and his entire squad is court marshalled. Again, they barely avoid being shot because the idiotic Colonel sees Karn and fights alongside them and even then, he demotes Baird out of spite. Kait has screwed up more than any other character and faces no consequences for her actions. Humanity as a whole gets to suffer vs a more organised and evolving Swarm, though.

An I find it funny that in gears 5 they kinda make you want to save del instead JD because throught the game they try to make him seem terrible so when you get to that point it's a "Easy" choice. I’m just going to reinstall gears of war 3 on my Xbox and hope people are still playing. This video perfectly described what happened to gears, shifting from what worked with the story focus being a band of brothers none the less to become a story about people’s issues. I loved gears - 1's over the top ending and the sheer fear of the kyrill Gears 2 was utterly nasty and took the idea of slavery and the need for blood and war torn prisoners of war to a whole new level while also bringing in more boss fights that felt like story progression and not just there to extend the story. Gears 3 Probably the best example in the franchise of how to finish a mother clucking story. Shattering core plot while making what was left of delta squad the heroes they should be. The loss of Dom was utterly heart breaking and really showed how much pent up depression the characters were waking up to each and every day bringing a whole another level of just how mentally strong the main protaginist was. Being in jail for what 5-10 years of, finally meeting back up with your best bro then watch him have to suffer through another what 15 years at your side. The depth of Marcus Fenix was reaching the highest point its ever gotten to. Gears Revelation was good but felt too dated Gears 4 just felt like how do we nerf Marcus and still claim him to be the main character IDK lets make his son the MC. Gears 5 MORE of the same the worst part is the DLC is better than the main story. I hate saying this but the new gears games just feel like a literal waste of space. The Carmine family is more memorable THE ENTIRE coalition story line is FUCKING forgetable 4 FUCK SAKE. I'd beg just about any other dev to just take over and just remake a proper Gears of War 2 and then be done with this franchise. Just go do anything else. TBH.

@@AwildGwen If I were writing the 4th game I would have had it that Lament Locust survived. The WMD ending of 3rd game by utilizing COG equipment creating a resistant new strain of locust. That could survive the event and what then the kids discover and accidentally do is poke the dormant hive. By trespassing being though like marcus the kids get way over their head in trouble and end up getting cornered by multiple Lambent Berserkers and then the real ticking time begins. As the plot swaps to Marcus having to round up the old Delta squad and EVERYONE has to go bail out the kids. A classic old COG meets new. And I'd give Jack for Gears 4 the ability to make a temporary on the go disposable hammer of dawn Triangulation ultra ability. The only issue with this is while its super accurate it also overclocks the near by satellites meaning. Jack's ordinance request has a long charge up but and equally scary response to the large charge up. Infact the hammers responding ordinance is so strong that it can one tap berserkers at the cost of them then also exploding massively and it wipes out beacons that cost a significant amount of the already rare supplies.
I used to really like Myraah as a villain, she had her motives, she was smart and it was cool to play as her in gears of war 3 for a change. But the stupid emotes laughing spam made me hate her, seriously how the hell it doesnt bother them to make amazing characters feel like a joke

That’s….. exactly what they did LMAOOOOO, all of 4 and 5 is the Swarm/Locust mutating from the immulsions counter measure and spend the next 2 games trying to capture Reina and Kate to redevelop their Queen and Matriarch, i mean most of the 4th game you’re literally fighting them inside burial sites, locations where they were literally dumped in mass after the counter measure was launched because without their Queen they had no infrustructure to develop a Nexus, so they just stayed in their burial sites and maybe slightly encroaching into the surrounding areas. Never branches out or created a Nexus, and now since they have their new queen after Kate separated herself from the link, the Swarm/Locust have said infrustructre even stated by Marcus at the end of 5 that now since they have their Queen they’ll have a nexus. I swear Gears fans are so stupid. That’s coming from a hard core long time gears fan.
What happened to Gears of war is equivalent to what happened to WW2 games. From wars from 20th century to 21th century tik tok. Everything felt real, everything was a lesson to be learned, people when they get in peace times they become more weak and sensitive. I’ll be honest I really hated the open world section. Not because it’s open world but because you’re forced to listen to Kat and Del’s crappy dialogue about JD. I mean if he’d let her secret out who knows what Jinn would’ve done to Kait. The game was really weakly trying to villainise him the whole time and I didn’t really see him as the bad guy. Sure Fahz is an ass but he’s not a terrible person overall, he saves Del a few times and gets really torn up if he or JD dies. Honestly I ended up muting the dialogue on the Skiff so I couldn’t hear them complaining about JD like he’s an absolute villain where he was trying to do the good thing.
i couldn't even finish this campaign, and skipped the multiplayer all together. Ultimate edition is the only decent game they made, even though the gnasher is completely broken.

I say this because in Gears 2, when you went to New Hope the chapter was called ‘Origins’ & that’s where the locust origins started but Epic never fully established the Locust’s origins even in 3 or dlc, even at the end of 3 when Adam Fenix begins to spill some of his mistakes. So I’m glad they were established, you’re probably annoyed cos Kait was involved & I get that but if you take Kait & Del out of those scenes it explains it well regardless. Niles has been one of the best written characters in the universe.

Gears was popular for being gears, just like halo was popular for being halo. When you fundamentally change a series like that, especially straying from well established lore, its going to fail everytime The Gears series is a window into our world. Hard times made hard men like col hoffman, marcus etc. Hard men made good times. Good times made soft men like the new characters. JD has that spark of doing what needed to be done and was punished for it, like we see people punished today for public perception. They have the knowledge and skill but are missing the grit and mental fortitude of the Gears of old.
One of my biggest issues with the Coalition Gears games are how it feels they completely forgot the impact the Lambent had of the world of GOW. Like you see that in GOW 3 that the Lambent had completely mangled the world and by the end of the game, Adam Fenix said the Lambent were about to "reach a critical stage in their life cycle" where I don't think we ever got clarification of what that means. Then by Gears 4/5, no one even talks about the Lambent despite almost destroying the whole ass world. We don't even see any remaining presence of the Lambent, which you could argue the COG has tried to clean up but I doubt they could clean up everything that the Lambent did. I feel like the Lambent has just been ignored despite being a source of potential in my opinion.

As someone who rarely plays MP in Gears (I mostly stick to campaign and horde), Gears 5 is one of my favorites in the series. It's hard to say it's better than the OG trilogy, but I put it about on par with it. For context, I despise Gears 4 for its annoying story and characters. I find it to be the worst in the series by a mile. I like Judgement more than most but I also haven't played it since launch so what does that tell you?
For me it was how bright and shiny the series got that killed it for me. I loved fighting ugly monsters in the dark grey and brown world of gears 1, as their software devolped by gears 3 things were a bit more colorful but explained away as this is how things look in Sera during summer. When i played gears 4 and spent more time than i would have liked in fighting robots in bright sunshine amongst flower pots in a pristine city with everything covered in bright neon lights, i realized i didnt like the series anymore, expecting more distopian apocalypse atmosphere setting but finding a fucking 80s fever dream instead lol. I completely forgot gears 5 existed till recently, never played it and i dont really have any interest in continuing this new gears series.
So at the 2:00 minute mark you talk about Gears 5's need to be something else and show the emote and compare it to fortnite. Now this isn't a problem, (whether or not they're detrimental to the games health is another thing entirely) however the next 10 seconds are and really just set the precedent for your entire video. You likely put this cod clip then the gears clip then the battlefield clip to reinforce your "point" you made about Gears 5 "copying" others. But what correlation does that cod and battlefield clip have to do with TC's apparent mimicking of others? Like what is it doing there? Lancering with the use of cover has been in Gears MP since the beginning MP. So why is it with your argument of TC's "philosophy" of mimicking others. Than the examples of this I could include later in the video would add another 20 minutes of typing. You mention things once and gloss over them by immediately jumping to another subject, and if we do think about what you're saying for more than ten seconds we can start to find holes in them Like what you just said before the two minute mark about Gears Players coming to gears to experience things they can't get anywhere else. But just look at arcade, the most popular mode in the game when it first dropped and the hardcore player base I know hated it. And that was unique, that was a fun mode, that was something new and Gears heads just disregarded it. Called it trash because it wasn't Gnasher fest. Gears 5 had the best movement/combat in the series mainly because it was the newest entry, but everything else really sucked compared to the original 3. I hope E Day innovates on the gameplay from 5 but really brings back the gritty gory mature tone of the original 3
I personally liked the game. The story was good in my eyes. While not as good as two or three it hit with me. It definitely was not as bland as one (and yes it was bland and you had to play the other games to actually get any answers). The jokes hit, the dark parts hit, the silent parts hit. The Easter eggs and collectibles tell that it was made with people that understood the old gears and extended lore.
I'll sum up why gears 5 failed. 1. Kait. She's annoying, selfish, whiny and is a terrible lead character. She's just not a strong lead. Del was also terrible. 2. The 2 semi open world segments were boring and just unneccesary. 3. The constant changing of the weapon tuning and player movement in MP was just so frustrating, especially since they never properly fixed the broken gnasher that was so inconsistent. 4. TC only listened to what the pro players wanted and not the majority of the fan base like when they made KOTH/Control 4v4 instead of keeping it at 5v5 5. Emotes. jesus christ. The less said about these, the better

The Coalition should have sucked up their ego, stayed with the main characters and started a story line before the trilliogy. But no, they were so unfit for the job that that they created mediocre characters and copy paste the same story formula with a few twist here and there. Also the game feels old. I think it was fun shooting with Lancer and Shotgun ten years ago, but now? Serioulsy the whole improvement is graphics and new skins. So sad for this franchise. At a time it was competing with Halo for Gods sake..
Gears to me is a nostalgia trip, but it was also atmosphere, it was the characters, it was the brutal gore, it was a testosterone filled hopeless gloomy cover shooter with interesting characters and a unique story not to mention for the time the graphics were insane. Now it's just people I don't care about with a story I don't care about with boring map design that feels really departed from the original 3. Also it's not GEARS OF WAR when your not playing as the original characters that defined the series. I don't really feel badass as a woman running around killing COG robots. Kind of dumb tbh

As a PC player that wanted to play gears of war on PC I was very disappointed. Coming back to the game and just finding microtransactions plastered everywhere put me off the game. Completed it on the hardest difficulty too. I used to enjoy horde mode in gears of war 3 which was another big reason why I bought the game, although the horde mode in gears 5 just sucks. I'd like if they just made something like what 343 done with the MCC and put all the good games into one package across on pc with NO MICROTRANSACTIONS. Imagine matchmaking GOW1 GOW2 GOW3 and Judgement all in the same game and playing all the campaigns with friends incredibly easy, would keep player count high across all the games as well. Gears 5 is a waste of money if you are expecting it to be anything like the original trilogy.
Honestly I don't blame the coalition for some of the design decisions they made, but yeah the sequels played it way too safe and marketable. I always thought that if they wanted to make something new and original with the GOW license maybe a horror game would've fit the bill ... It's not like there weren't elements of horror already in the first 3 games. :)

At least we're getting the old Gears of War back with E-Day, a prequel to the original trilogy when Epic was still in charge of the franchise, before The Coalition and the new Kait Diaz trilogy came along. It takes place 14 years before the events of the original 2006 Gears of War game.
It would have been better if we had gotten a Marcus Fenix Collection with the original games remastered.

Yes but the gears of war lore extends way WAY beyond the first 3 games. There could have been spin off games after gears 3 exploring the locust-lambent war, pendelum war, beginning of the locust war and more. But I do agree that there shouldn't be more stories after Gears 3, Gears 3 should be the end of the locust human war or the war to end all wars as I like to put it.

I want to see more stories based around the Onyx Guard or just different squads in general. I have no interest in The Swarm or whatever NoName brand locust they come up with. Just give us more stories from within the Locust War. I think a story not unlike Halo Reach would do really well in the Gears universe. A suicide mission that contributes to the overall goal that was 3's inevitable end.

A story set leading to the end of Gears 3. A story which feels like Reach/Suicide Squad. Mixed in with James Vegas story from Mass Effect, where the survivor realises everything done was for naught. That all their work, all their moments of grandeur is undone, when they just had to wait.
For me, gears 4-5 never happened and it was just Marcus having a nightmare
While 4 isn’t on par with original trilogy it’s still a solid gears. For me it had the one of the best horde modes not as good as 3 but still very good.
But gears 5 completely shifted direction and is not gears of war at all here’s hoping gears 6 at least reverses some of the damage done to the franchise.

My big two issues about the game (storywise) is how they had forced conflict between JD, Fahz and the others only for it to just resolve in the Vasgar act, like Fahz becomes a totally different charaxter and JD goes back to his GoW4 self leading me to believe thet just wanted them out of the picture for half the story. The other thing was the open world acts, they were fun don't get me wrong but if you remove them for the story this Gears game is the shortest by far in the story. By far I felt the strongest acts were the first and last because of this fact as well as their pacing

Finally i've been saying this about JD for soooo lonnggg. Like everyone hates JD for no reason, He's a soldier and soldiers gotta make judgement calls at times so shiting on him for trying to save everyone is so stupid.
He's a crap annoying character just like Kait.
To be honest, he's the best written of the new trio, imo. Not sure if the writers are so bad that trying to make a character unlikeable actually makes me more sympathetic to them, or there's a decent writer just doing as they're told, but by actually giving JD flaws and shattering that naive cockiness he's had since 4 made me like him as a character. His actions have consequences that he himself (and everyone around him) acknowledge. Unlike Kait. Even when Kait acknowledges how badly waking up Reyna affects humanity, Del's like "It's not your fault".
JD made a panicked decision in an impossible situation and likely saved more lives than if he hadn't given the order to open fire on the rioters. Same with settlement 2. I'd argue all of them would have been wiped out by the Swarm, had he not played hammer bait. He obviously distanced himself from the others due to guilt and shame, especially given the condemnation and disgust in Del and Kait's eyes when Faz blurted the truth out. Having gone through all of that and began to repair his friendships, only to lose Del as he does will really force JD to mature and harden as a character.
He's earned the role of the main protagonist in my opinion, unlike Kait. She's never held accountable for her actions and she's a lot more selfish than other characters, who have put the good of others before their own desires time and time again. Marcus defies orders and costs humanity a key battle and is sentenced to life imprisonment (only avoiding being shot because of Prescot's deal with Adam). Baird defies orders and his entire squad is court marshalled. Again, they barely avoid being shot because the idiotic Colonel sees Karn and fights alongside them and even then, he demotes Baird out of spite. Kait has screwed up more than any other character and faces no consequences for her actions. Humanity as a whole gets to suffer vs a more organised and evolving Swarm, though.

An I find it funny that in gears 5 they kinda make you want to save del instead JD because throught the game they try to make him seem terrible so when you get to that point it's a "Easy" choice. I wouldn't be surprised if JD is dead in the canon ending. Game is hot trash.

I’m just going to reinstall gears of war 3 on my Xbox and hope people are still playing. This video perfectly described what happened to gears, shifting from what worked with the story focus being a band of brothers none the less to become a story about people’s issues. Gears 2 was utterly nasty and took the idea of slavery and the need for blood and war torn prisoners of war to a whole new level while also bringing in more boss fights that felt like story progression and not just there to extend the story.
Gears 3 Probably the best example in the franchise of how to finish a mother clucking story. Shattering core plot while making what was left of delta squad the heroes they should be. The loss of Dom was utterly heart breaking and really showed how much pent up depression the characters were waking up to each and every day bringing a whole another level of just how mentally strong the main protaginist was. Being in jail for what 5-10 years of, finally meeting back up with your best bro then watch him have to suffer through another what 15 years at your side. The depth of Marcus Fenix was reaching the highest point its ever gotten to.

@@AwildGwen If I were writing the 4th game I would have had it that Lament Locust survived. The WMD ending of 3rd game by utilizing COG equipment creating a resistant new strain of locust. That could survive the event and what then the kids discover and accidentally do is poke the dormant hive. By trespassing being though like marcus the kids get way over their head in trouble and end up getting cornered by multiple Lambent Berserkers and then the real ticking time begins.
As the plot swaps to Marcus having to round up the old Delta squad and EVERYONE has to go bail out the kids. A classic old COG meets new.
And I'd give Jack for Gears 4 the ability to make a temporary on the go disposable hammer of dawn Triangulation ultra ability. The only issue with this is while its super accurate it also overclocks the near by satellites meaning. Jack's ordinance request has a long charge up but and equally scary response to the large charge up. Infact the hammers responding ordinance is so strong that it can one tap berserkers at the cost of them then also exploding massively and it wipes out beacons that cost a significant amount of the already rare supplies.

Kadar excursion, yet she receives no repercussions.

That’s….. exactly what they did LMAOOOOO, all of 4 and 5 is the Swarm/Locust mutating from the immulsions counter measure and spend the next 2 games trying to capture Reina and Kate to redevelop their Queen and Matriarch, i mean most of the 4th game you’re literally fighting them inside burial sites, locations where they were literally dumped in mass after the counter measure was launched because without their Queen they had no infrustructure to develop a Nexus, so they just stayed in their burial sites and maybe slightly encroaching into the surrounding areas. Never branches out or created a Nexus, and now since they have their new queen after Kate separated herself from the link, the Swarm/Locust have said infrustructre even stated by Marcus at the end of 5 that now since they have their Queen they’ll have a nexus. I’ll be honest I really hated the open world section. Not because it’s open world but because you’re forced to listen to Kat and Del’s crappy dialogue about JD. I mean if he’d let her secret out who knows what Jinn would’ve done to Kait. The game was really weakly trying to villainise him the whole time and I didn’t really see him as the bad guy. Sure Fahz is an ass but he’s not a terrible person overall, he saves Del a few times and gets really torn up if he or JD dies. Honestly I ended up muting the dialogue on the Skiff so I couldn’t hear them complaining about JD like he’s an absolute villain where he was trying to do the good thing.
i couldn't even finish this campaign, and skipped the multiplayer all together. Ultimate edition is the only decent game they made, even though the gnasher is completely broken.

I say this because in Gears 2, when you went to New Hope the chapter was called ‘Origins’ & that’s where the locust origins started but Epic never fully established the Locust’s origins even in 3 or dlc, even at the end of 3 when Adam Fenix begins to spill some of his mistakes.
So I’m glad they were established, you’re probably annoyed cos Kait was involved & I get that but if you take Kait & Del out of those scenes it explains it well regardless. Niles has been one of the best written characters in the universe.

Gears was popular for being gears, just like halo was popular for being halo. When you fundamentally change a series like that, especially straying from well established lore, its going to fail everytime
The Gears series is a window into our world. Hard times made hard men like col hoffman, marcus etc. Hard men made good times. Good times made soft men like the new characters. JD has that spark of doing what needed to be done and was punished for it, like we see people punished today for public perception. They have the knowledge and skill but are missing the grit and mental fortitude of the Gears of old.
One of my biggest issues with the Coalition Gears games are how it feels they completely forgot the impact the Lambent had of the world of GOW. Like you see that in GOW 3 that the Lambent had completely mangled the world and by the end of the game, Adam Fenix said the Lambent were about to "reach a critical stage in their life cycle" where I don't think we ever got clarification of what that means. Then by Gears 4/5, no one even talks about the Lambent despite almost destroying the whole ass world. We don't even see any remaining presence of the Lambent, which you could argue the COG has tried to clean up but I doubt they could clean up everything that the Lambent did. I feel like the Lambent has just been ignored despite being a source of potential in my opinion.
I mean they literally all got fucking killed by the Countermeasure weapon. There is no more imulsion. Zip zero zitch nada. How are you gonna blame the coalition for what epic did in Gears 3.

As someone who rarely plays MP in Gears (I mostly stick to campaign and horde), Gears 5 is one of my favorites in the series. It's hard to say it's better than the OG trilogy, but I put it about on par with it.
For context, I despise Gears 4 for its annoying story and characters. I find it to be the worst in the series by a mile. I like Judgement more than most but I also haven't played it since launch so what does that tell you?
For me it was how bright and shiny the series got that killed it for me. I loved fighting ugly monsters in the dark grey and brown world of gears 1, as their software devolped by gears 3 things were a bit more colorful but explained away as this is how things look in Sera during summer.
When i played gears 4 and spent more time than i would have liked in fighting robots in bright sunshine amongst flower pots in a pristine city with everything covered in bright neon lights, i realized i didnt like the series anymore, expecting more distopian apocalypse atmosphere setting but finding a fucking 80s fever dream instead lol. I completely forgot gears 5 existed till recently, never played it and i dont really have any interest in continuing this new gears series.
So at the 2:00 minute mark you talk about Gears 5's need to be something else and show the emote and compare it to fortnite.
Now this isn't a problem, (whether or not they're detrimental to the games health is another thing entirely) however the next 10 seconds are and really just set the precedent for your entire video.

Gears 5 had the best movement/combat in the series mainly because it was the newest entry, but everything else really sucked compared to the original 3. I hope E Day innovates on the gameplay from 5 but really brings back the gritty gory mature tone of the original 3
I personally liked the game. The story was good in my eyes. While not as good as two or three it hit with me. It definitely was not as bland as one (and yes it was bland and you had to play the other games to actually get any answers). The jokes hit, the dark parts hit, the silent parts hit. The Easter eggs and collectibles tell that it was made with people that understood the old gears and extended lore.
It failed because we were good after 3 nothing else needed to be made
I'll sum up why gears 5 failed.
1. Kait. She's annoying, selfish, whiny and is a terrible lead character. She's just not a strong lead. Del was also terrible.
2. The 2 semi open world segments were boring and just unneccesary.
3. The constant changing of the weapon tuning and player movement in MP was just so frustrating, especially since they never properly fixed the broken gnasher that was so inconsistent.
4. TC only listened to what the pro players wanted and not the majority of the fan base like when they made KOTH/Control 4v4 instead of keeping it at 5v5
5. Emotes. jesus christ. The less said about these, the better
I was pissed how Marcus and JD was treated. Like Marcus already lost a lot of family and your telling me his son not only dies, but is made the villain while Del is a typical joke for the female to point out his stupidity? 4 and 5 does not exist in my book
Biggest issue I have with GOW 4-5 is the annoying enemies. I hate the pouncers and snatchers, as well as the robots. I miss the good old Locust.

The Coalition should have sucked up their ego, stayed with the main characters and started a story line before the trilliogy.
But no, they were so unfit for the job that that they created mediocre characters and copy paste the same story formula with a few twist here and there.
Also the game feels old. I think it was fun shooting with Lancer and Shotgun ten years ago, but now? Serioulsy the whole improvement is graphics and new skins. So sad for this franchise. At a time it was competing with Halo for Gods sake..

Gears to me is a nostalgia trip, but it was also atmosphere, it was the characters, it was the brutal gore, it was a testosterone filled hopeless gloomy cover shooter with interesting characters and a unique story not to mention for the time the graphics were insane. Now it's just people I don't care about with a story I don't care about with boring map design that feels really departed from the original 3. Also it's not GEARS OF WAR when your not playing as the original characters that defined the series. I don't really feel badass as a woman running around killing COG robots. Kind of dumb tbh

As a PC player that wanted to play gears of war on PC I was very disappointed. Coming back to the game and just finding microtransactions plastered everywhere put me off the game. Completed it on the hardest difficulty too. I used to enjoy horde mode in gears of war 3 which was another big reason why I bought the game, although the horde mode in gears 5 just sucks. I'd like if they just made something like what 343 done with the MCC and put all the good games into one package across on pc with NO MICROTRANSACTIONS. Imagine matchmaking GOW1 GOW2 GOW3 and Judgement all in the same game and playing all the campaigns with friends incredibly easy, would keep player count high across all the games as well.
Gears 5 is a waste of money if you are expecting it to be anything like the original trilogy.

Idk I loved the original 3 games, 4 sucked but I’m playing through 5 right now and it’s great so far.
Honestly I don't blame the coalition for some of the design decisions they made, but yeah the sequels played it way too safe and marketable. I always thought that if they wanted to make something new and original with the GOW license maybe a horror game would've fit the bill ... It's not like there weren't elements of horror already in the first 3 games. :)
