Gears of War Judgment didn't deserve the hate. Sure the game wasn't similar in fashion to the original trilogy, but it opened the door to many fun possible directions for the franchise to evolve and become greater. Not to mention, it was a completely faithful developed Gears of War game, unlike the Sequel trilogy games (Gears of War 4 and Gears 5) in my opinion.

I remember forcing my dad to take me into Tesco at 2 in the morning to buy this game, we absolutely loved it and we finished it in one sitting that night, it was one of the last games I played with my dad and it will forever be special to me
That's amazing, I remember watching my sister play them growing up and then playing them myself when I got older. I'm currently doing a complete timeline run with my other sister.
One of my favorite moments from Judgement was when the Onyx Guard interrupted the judgement and respectfully recommended postponing it to fight the Locust and his very clear hesitation and anger when he was told “Then it’s a short walk” I love that you can tell every emotion that Onyx guard felt even though he had a helmet on covering his face.
It was definitely meh. Baird and Cole were way too serious and acted nothing like their original selves (or older selves in this scenario cuz it’s a prequel). Karn was a complete joke
Yeah but the amount of retcons in the game made it bad like the chainsaw existence in the game time that they can get away with if they said after few years after E-day instead of few weeks and the kantus appearance too and even the new enemy the rager they said they extinct and then they appeared in gears 3 time in the aftermath story
My main complaint against was how they limited your weapon you can carry. I hated how instead of 3 guns, 2 main and a sidearm, you can only 2 at all times. And I couldn’t get used to pushing Y to switch weapons, preferred the d pad .
Maybe they should have kept the D-Pad system but make it faster. When I play Judgement and then GoW 1, 2 or 3 the first change I spot is: "Damn, Baird equiped the Fast Hands perk."
@@Nolongerhereanymore In Overrun you could play as the Locust, the Grenadiers were an option. But I agree there should have been more Locust characters, they could have added some more over time as DLC but Epic was done with the franchise and Cliffy B left so there wasn't any motivation for the rest of Epic and People Can Fly to continue to support the game.
@@Nolongerhereanymore In terms of their designs and appearance. Yeah, I liked them. In terms of character, I prefer the original, much scarier, dirty, and more intimidating
I enjoyed the campaign for this game but the problem lied in the changes to multiplayer. When you have something that’s been core to the multiplayer for 3 games such as DBNO state, 4 starting weapons and the Locust characters, it feels more natural and right to have that and it wasn’t a smart move to change that aspect. It just didn’t feel the same. I still think Overrun was one of the best game modes they have developed though and I want that to return. I don’t hate the game, I just wish they didn’t change what was core to the previous instalments in multiplayer. The multiplayer died so quick and even a few days after it’s release in March 2013, the numbers were higher on GOW 3. If they didn’t change the multiplayer mechanics and included Locust characters within other multiplayer modes besides Overrun, I guarantee the game woulda got better reception.
Intrasting you make the halo comparison, i think geares has a few homages to halo, like the lamambet to the flood, the locust lambet war simmilar to the great schisim in halo 2. And gears hand halo 3 end with a super weapon being activated.
@@wolflord8117 your drawing far off conclusions though the halo rings are far more deadly then the light mass missles the flood is far more dangerous then the lambent since its the inulsion mutating living organisms to protect itself whereas the flood wants ultimate knowledge above all and the way between the locust and lambent as opposed to the schism was the elites finally rebelling after centuries of being slaves to the prophets but the lambent was a organic living being that feared its own destruction since it was used as a fuel source so it decided to fight back instead.
I love this game, but I didn't hear any of the complaints here that I heard back when. People had problems with; -The lack of playable Locust in the standard multiplayer -The removal of Horde Mode -The change in control scheme -The nickel-&-diming with all the cosmetic DLC -The focus on aesthetics like Armor & Weapon skins -The lack of playable characters. -The small-scale feel compared to Gears of War 3 -Cole not quite looking right (this also goes for Baird a bit) -And my complain about the characters' personality/dialogue writing feeling a tad off. I personally Loved this game. It's fast and franetic with that arcadey kinda feel. Constant action and a cool story, althoug Karn had 0 personality and realistically no relevance aside from being the "face" of the opposing Locust force. And I get it; 1 was Raam, 2 was Skorge, and 3 was Mirrah. 4 faltered by only having the Speaker, but like Karn it's better than nothing I guess.
i agree with you i think this guy missed the mark a bit. the whacky colors are not a gears of war thing who the hell wants to run around with a blue skeleton on their back it’s just not gears. the game was okay at best. could’ve been better if there wasn’t all that stupid ass glowy shit, the original gameplay mechanics, and i guess you’d say original gears of war feeling maps, and of course no locust. to me this game felt like it tried to be call of duty. (story aside)
Judgements overrun mode was the best thing about the game. Kind of unbelievable that they never brought it back. Back in the day it was the only reason I’d ever play a gears multiplayer.
This game explains in great detail why Marcus knows who Baird is in the first game. Everyone knows the guy who disobeyed a direct order and fired a light mass missile on the city they were trying to protect. Granted Lumous was right and the COG did have a reason to save that missile which we see in gears 1 and 2 didn't work. Hell light mass tech never works, like it didn't even kill Karn just softened him up...
The real war changing aspect that Baird and his squad did on Judgment wasn't using the lightmass missile to destroy Karn but it was saving Marcus back at the Museum, it was almost, for us who already played Gears of War from 1 to 3 and knew the end of the story, a feeling of "John Connor must be protected" from the Terminator franchise without the characters even know it. 20:18 That might be one of my favorite Marcus' moments right there, the sarcasticaly and always angry way he says "well, tell him good luck with that!!" is just so on point that cracks me up everytime I play Judgment's campaign😂😂
Really loved the campaign and some game modes. And I have to say the game had more inspiration/style, and more love put in the development than Gears 4 and 5. Remember the trailers of Gears 1? and 2? it was amazing that whas it's selling point.
This game was intense at times, they seemed to have tweeked the Locust "AI" to be more aggressive and I"ve never had to fight off so many enemies in such a short time before in a Gears game
@@absolution6191 nah, i finished in insane, and there are 2 parts where there were so many ennemies you would think that (challenges on), when you're at the door of the academy after passing through the canalisations, and the patt where they were at the 30 day celebration of the end of the pendulums war and when a horde of ragers come at you
I didn't mind the game campaign it was decent it had some lore breaks lancer and kantus being there 30 days after e-day instead of 1 year for the lancer and 14 years for the kantus makes sense for gameplay but for the deeper lore no sense at all. The pvp really sucked that was everyone's main issue and it shows.
Yeah. Canonically, the Lancer Mark II doesn't exist until about two or three years After Emergence, but Judgement takes place, what, nine months A.E.? I use the Retro Lancer whenever I can because of that.
@@dmruggabugga6270 I actually would have liked it if they removed the Mark II entirely or presented it as an experimental weapon, and armed you with the Mark I Lancer to start. It would have really put you in the shoes of an early war Gear. The post-Hammer strike war is explored by the novels written by Karen Traviss-if you haven't read them do so, they're amazing-but the war before the Hammer strikes is often neglected entirely. Judgement was a good concept, great story, poor execution.
Yeah, true. The way they continued Gears in the way that they did is really sad. tomorrow never came for them. Judgement, though, is just a very flawed but fun game whose story doesn't even matter (Coalition's End is confirmed canon) On the other hand...E-Day. like oh my god my mind has been blown for so many reasons. really can't wait for it.
I'm playing Gears 2 and 3 again (I beat the hell out of the first one, completed the campaign a million time on every version, on 360, PC and Ultimate on Xbone, that's way i'm not playing it again). I want more of the original story (not the garbage of Gears 4 and 5) but now, after this video I'm going to include Judgment, I played the whole campaign just once when It came out and some multiplayer but I didn't like it, I was so hype but I was expecting the same formula of the first one. So thanks! I enjoyed the video and like the title said, I was wrong, I didn't get it at the time! For me Gears still have the potential to become a big franchise again!
Yeah i digged judgement, just beat it on insane - it's fun but I wasn't a terribly big fan of it's narrative , it's levels and dialogue felt cut short and half of what's said wasn't really all that gripping whereas in gears 1, 2 and 3 you're clinging to each syllable
@@primalpistol exactly, kids sell well. "who cares who your target audience is if it makes money?" was probably epic games's philosophy. but i agree, fortnite started this stupid ass battle royal era that we're in now*, and the coalition has taken everything we loved about gears and wokenized it. none of it wouldve happened if epic didnt sell gears. *i am aware that there were other battle royals before fortnite, but to the general public, fortnite made it popular so it takes the blame.
I really enjoyed the campaign. Even from what I can remember I enjoyed the multiplayer. Never understood the hate. Judgement is kinda like Halo Reach, last game made by the publisher, doing a prequel, and experimenting with new and different concepts while going back to the roots of the series. Unfortunately both weren't appreciated in their own time
The Coalition completely disgraced Paduk in Gears 5. He was a witty and respectable character in Judgement, they made him into just another crazy Russian in Gears 5... absolutely pathetic.
Nah, we just didn’t like judgment because of the change of controls, gameplay(for example: asymmetric maps, humans vs humans) and lack of content (maps, characters) all of that coming from the multiplayer, which is where we spend most of our time, after beating the campaign. The story wasn’t the best, but it was interesting to know a little bit more about the lore of the gears universe, but it was just that: interesting. Also I understand (correct me if I’m wrong) that the game was rushed by Microsoft, that’s why Epic collaborated with People can Fly. Overall, judgment was a pretty interesting game, almost felt as an experiment, but an experiment that didn’t highlight.
No i know 5 is bad but I still think judgement is also dog shit. And hey if you like it you like it but I think it’s a trash gears that doesn’t even feel like gears
So I can understand if you paid 60.00 dollars for this game and being mad but if you have all the dlc Maps and Charcters (which you can buy all Dlc charcters on the stor except jungle Tai) it’s pretty fun and cool and I’ve always liked the game especially Aftermath.
I definitely agree that gears judgement didn't deserve the hate and gears of war judgement in my opinion was the best gears game plus it was me and my family first gears of war game that we bought and we didn't know about the other gears games until later on.
Yea, I've never thought of Loomis as the MAIN antagonist. He was an antagonist on my list but just in the courtroom. Yet, this is years after I've played the game. But it's not one I would call a bad game. Just a game that I didn't understand in terms of Lore.
Campaign was spot on. The challenges were odd, different, but interesting and fun. Only thing I dislike was how they handles controls for changing weapons and grenades. Paduk is great. One of my favorite characters. Was quite happy to see his return in Gears 5.
When my brother got his first pay check, we went to buy an xbox 360 and all the gears of war games. We spend many years playing with an old play station 2 and having the posibility of playing by the time next gen of video games was the best experience we had.
To be honest I had no problem with the Campaign aside from the fact that the AI on Insanity can get you killed faster than the Locust does. However at times you can strategically plan around situations where you can use the enemies tactics against them, like on the Declassified mission where a bunch of Ragers with the breachshot try to swarm you,you can plug up on or two of the E-holes and set up the turret with a good line of sight to piss them off to force them to transform and then use the Sawed-Off when they get close and you have the ammo box that refills that on the left side for later.
GOW 1,2,3 & Judgement will always have a special place in my heart. I just wish Judgement was a little longer! I loved that they included UIR, I think it would be cool to see more content from their perspective.
Eshert0_o Thoughts very similar dear viewer, "Judgment" was just the tip of the iceberg for so many different worlds to play in for Gears of War going forward.
No, we weren't wrong about Judgement. I'll go through why this game was a real step down from previous Gears games, split between the Campaign, Basic Gameplay, and Multiplayer. Basic Gameplay: - Two weapon limit basically makes pistols worthless and removes the D-pad from gameplay - New grenade throw is lacks the buildup and satisfaction of the grenade throw from Gears 1-3 - Removal of Active Reload from many areas of the game Campaign: - Judgement divided the campaign up basically into set-piece after set-piece, removing the feeling of exploration and the story organically unfolding like Gears 1-3 did. It broke my immersion in the story and felt like I was playing an arcade game - The new enemy type, the Rager, was stupid as hell and never should have made it into the game - There is really only one boss fight in all of Judgement (the Berserker doesn't count - its not very hard and we've fought Berserkers before) and that was Karn. Gears 1-3 all had at least 3 that I can think of Multiplayer: - Removal of Locust from multiplayer matches, so its just red humans vs blue humans - Poor map design - Retro and Sawed-off remain in the game from Gears 3. Don't know how much Gears 3 multiplayer you played in its heyday but let me tell you these weapons caused more than a little controversy. Basically, both weapons required very little skill to use and were very powerful - Removal of DBNO (down-but-not-out) - No Horde mode, and before you say it Overrun and Survival were both trash and not worthy successors to OG Horde I get you think that Gears 4 & 5 were bad, and I'd agree with you on Gears 4, but this doesn't make Judgement a good Gears game.
Yeah mate 110% agreed, Gears Judgement was just awful in almost every way. I thought some of the map designs in campaign were sort of goodish/different? But thats about it really... couldn't stand the arcade style gameplay it had. Also, not sure what this clown above me is talkin' about either^ just acting out like the 4 year old little brat he is because someone doesnt share the same opinion as him. Saw a couple of his other comments too so i know he loves this game, it just blows my mind how idiots like him will come out of the woodwork to defend garbage like this. It serves no purpose - the game died for a reason... let it rest in peace
I never tried Judgment because of the critiques and the hate it got, but I just beat the campaign and the aftermath, and I can say it's my favorite Gears of war campaign so far. Do give it a try, it is definitely worth it.
5:26 Ha he's joking right. You can't tell me that the lambent in 3 weren't scary, the grudges and gunkers bro I wouldn't go near them. Ye he's prob referring to the locust not the lambent but still......
I remember playing the campaign for Judgement and it was such a great experience, Dark, entertaining, and challenging af, especially if u did all of the declassified objectives. An amazing prequel game and a great Gears game
You know what I do wonder, With Loomis, his personality, and development after the story, if he saw the hopeleness of defending Halvo Bay to death and pulled out rather than have the humans lose another important leader, how would he have fared? How would it have changed the time line and trilogy? How much of a role would Hoffman have had as he would not have been the only Colonel? How different would COG decisions and ultimately the war have been? How would he have contributed to the war and trilogy games? How would he and Hoffman have got along? Would Prescott have trusted him more, particularly between 2-3 due to his staunch by-the-book and subordinate attitude? We'll never know. But I can imagine in the original game, at 70 years old, walking out of the King Raven after the jailbreak to present the light mass bomb plans to Delta, walking aggressively, with an angry and aggressive, imposing look (Hard to explain) due to how the war was going.
I can guarantee Hoffman would hate him. Allowing Onyx soldiers to die meaninglessly because of his obsession with a botched trial would have made Hoffman despise his guts. I think most of Delta would tell him to fuck off.
Honestly, this game hard a solid story and good PvE, but I'm a multiplayer player. This game played more like call of duty with wall bouncing rather then gears. No locust in multiplayer, you only spawn with one gun and a snub, the melee broke the gun play, the gnashed was inconsistent, this I just some of the things that ruined the game for me.
I think the Gears games shouldn’t have continued the story after 3, but release different kinds of Gears games in different periods of the Locust and maybe Lambent War. If people (including myself) weren’t as critical and syndical and gave the game a more open mind then perhaps the Gears franchise would be much different than it is now. For better or for worse is up to interpretation, but I do believe we wouldn’t have gotten a game like *Gears 5* if we hadn’t discouraged them. The fact RAAM’s Shadow was a better game than Gears 5 is just sad, a DLC outdid a full feature game. I hope we get another Judgement, it’s better than anything the Coalition has made thats for sure.
one thing for sure is, gears judgement is gorgeous. Look at those cinematics and the gameplay felt a bit more tighter than gears 3 sometimes which is awesome
tbh i really liked judgement, but i never played the multiplayer. i also saw that gears 5 took it's worst ideas (like the b button being execute) from judgement.
Putting campaign aside, because I think the campaign was the best part of the game The main problem I have with this Gears game is they had so many downgrades that they masked as something beneficial 1. No Locust in multiplayer When I first heard this I was kinda upset, then I was told from Epic in some video that the main reason for the removal of the Locust from versus was because of there inconsistent hit boxes. After hearing that I was like ok, makes sense we will see how it goes. But after launch it became apparent that it was most likely done out of sheer laziness. If they no longer have to work on Locust characters, why is there only like 10 COG characters in the entire game?Especially compared to previous games which had multiple characters to choose from along with there different versions. Make it make sense 2. No downs Another apparent upgrade that in reality was a downgrade, idk what they were tryna accomplish with that one, maybe a faster paced experience but all it did was take away those epic moments of saving/being saved at the last second just before getting killed, something that Gears always had from the start. Idk if this is true but I heard that the real reason for the removal of downs was because if it was implemented they would have to spend more development time on it Which leads me to believe that Gears of War Judgment was just a shameless cash grab, and its why I regard this game as the 1st slap in the face from the devs to the fans, the other slaps would later come from The Coalition. Notice how Epic wasn’t planning on working on any other Gears games after Judgment, it was to be shelved…until Microsoft came in and bought it, only leaving me to think even more that it was just a cash grab Not all things were bad tho in terms of Multiplayer, I think Overrun was a very good mode that just needed a little tweaking to be even better. Why they abandoned that mode in future games is beyond me.
Gears of War judgment is a weird game for me because there's a lot of stuff I like it and a lot of stuff I hate in it I'm still say it's the worst gears game in my opinion but there's still a some of stuff I like in it I like overrun I like the campaign but all the other modes where just not fun I really hated that decision of humans vs humans this isn't Halo guys Gears of War but that's just my opinion
Good vid, although I think a lot of your comments are subjective. I recently did all the Gears games on the hardest settings and Judgment on Insane with all the modifier things was the hardest for me- absolutely brutal. The controls did feel simplified but it looked gorgeous and hey theres nothing wrong with trying some new stuff in a kind of spinoff game...
Ive been playing through the whole series for the first time on game pass and I really liked judgement. The stars in the missions scratch my completionist itch...
i played this many years after release because i thought it was just another average expansion that couldnt compete with gears 1,2,3. after playing it though I will say that this game has the best gameplay out of all the gears games. theres more emphasis on moving around instead of hiding behind cover. the action was so intense the framerate would drop like crazy haha. poor 360. the campaign was great because we got to see the chaos of e-day and watch former enemies team up. highly recommend this game.
I loved Judgement's campaign and story, better than 3's honestly. my only gripe with it was the change in controls with fast grenades and stuff. I loved Loomis he was that sterotypical officer still fighting the last war and a total hard ass, but was a solid military man through and through, one of the greatest officers the COG will ever see
This game had so many things I wanted gears to have. The lancer had 60 rounds in a magazine again. You could use any weapon with the boom shield leading to some amazing combos. And I got to learn more about the uir and the early days of the locust war. But the control scheme really dampened the experience for me this game is my 4th favorite gears game but if it controlled like the other games it would be my 2nd favorite behind gears 2.
The judgement story is fine. But the stop and go nature is really really annoying and destroys the sense of space that most gears games give you. Weirdly enough this is fixed in aftermath. Which doesn’t have the weird stoping every 5 minutes. The games lore is mostly fine. Obviously tho the lancer shouldn’t exist yet. The game did do some cool stuff with exploring the UIR, however gears tactics and 5 expanded on this heavily later on. The gameplay changes suck. I’ve mentioned the stop and go to tally your arcade style points, but the 2 gun shift is really dumb. It destroys a key nature of the gears sandbox. It also near instantly made a lot of guns useless. This also changed other things, like the fact you can carry a shield and use a primary weapon now.
Tried playing it again recently and honestly, the only thing that I don't like and stops me playing is the more arcade feel and the control changes. If they had just added a control option setting to bring back the d-pad weapon change I'd probably stand by it more.
gears judgment is really under appreciated i agree. judgment, even if it changed the gameplay, it still brought new openings to innovation and brought more stuff than they had changed.
But they didn't keep true to the lore, the campaign takes place right after e day so they shouldn't have Lancers with the chainsaw bayonet, that gets created a year after e day. Baird and Cole joined the cog about a few weeks after e day, they were never in halo bay and also Baird wasn't an officer. All the novels where published way before judgement so NO they didn't stay true to the"fiction". Every other gears game made many good references to the books but I don't know what they were doing with this game. I did like some parts of judgement like overrun and it did improve on things but some of the story didn't make sense and it also breaks some of the lore. With the new game gears 5 I believe that's gotten way too much hate and it's far better than judgement and even 4. Anyway I'm still debating whether I'll play this game when I go back to play through all the games and read the books again.
Judgement took place months after e day that explains how cole and baird are already well established in the cog and lancer is just a staple of the franchise , removing it would clearly take away part of what gears of war , its better to go off the game for most lore since its where the franchise originated from
Lol 5 is shit dude. I’m playing now after hitting masters on rank tdm. The campaign is nothing but fetch quests like in a stale rpg. Having to ride on a skiff nonstop is just a time waster.. I’ll take judgment and 4 over 5 any day.
Thanks for that. I hate it when people hate on Judgement. I love it. My 2nd favorite after the 1st one. The campaign is what I wish all gears campaign were: no talky-talky bullshit, all business. Combat is great and relentless in this game, and I couldn't get enough of it. It's a shame they didn't make a 4K remaster of it when they did it for 2 and 3...
Comparing it to what we have now, it was okay. It was really annoying how they got rid of Horde mode and had only humans vs humans in multiplayer (what is this, Halo?) the story itself was meh. Definitely felt too short and the cutscenes were kinda boring, even the trials scenes. Compare it to the cutscenes in Gears 2... Karn was a complete joke and the easiest of the generals. They did the onyx guard dirty by making them nothing but canon fodder and having 4- regular gears come out unscathed. Would of made sense if they were all Onyx guard cadets so had the training to be so successful during the campaign
It was a different take on Gears. As a die hard fan, I did and still do hate it. Doesn't mean it didn't have good qualities. The maps, Breach Shot, and some new faces with a decent story. But didn't hit as hard as 3. At the edge of humanity, struggling to survive, taking on the Locust and Lambent/mutated variants. Bound with personal relation, to some. Losing a brother and/or father. It runs deeper than Judgment. Listen to Cliffy B and Rod talk about Gears of War 3. Absolute passion vs. Judgment. And quickly, the multiplayer - Versus was experimental, I get it. But "two piecing" and leaping off buildings did not work well. For those that were based all around movement, cover to cover. Horizontal worked, but vertical, no.
You know, in retrospection, i wish Loomis got more character development throughout the series, maybe even him and Baird having a begrudging respect for one another, and maybe Loomis and Paduk having a rivalry.
I love almost everything about this game, specially the new weapons, my favorite weapon in all the games is the breechshot, I can't get tired of the sound and feeling
Multiplayer and gameplay were bad really bad, why tf they change the way we choose our weapons or that your not able to have two long weapons and a pistol, thats pretty stupid. Also the multiplayer is shit and I dont know who the fuck say lets take out horde mode and put that other shit i dont even remember de name. But man the campaign, the characters, the skins were real good I love all campiagns and judgement has a great one.

Maybe they should have kept the D-Pad system but make it faster. When I play Judgement and then GoW 1, 2 or 3 the first change I spot is:
"Damn, Baird equiped the Fast Hands perk."
I think this is my personal main gripe with the game too. Otherwise I'd be playing it a lot more.
exactly
The campaign was pretty damn good it's just the multiplier was bad
The Savior Of The Locust Horde
I wouldn't call the multiplayer bad but more of "lacking" in comparison to the previous two Gears of War Epic games.
You couldn't play as the drones grenadiers and Therons
@@Nolongerhereanymore
In Overrun you could play as the Locust, the Grenadiers were an option. But I agree there should have been more Locust characters, they could have added some more over time as DLC but Epic was done with the franchise and Cliffy B left so there wasn't any motivation for the rest of Epic and People Can Fly to continue to support the game.
Ok then
I have a question
Do you like the remastered Locust
In gears 1 UE
@@Nolongerhereanymore In terms of their designs and appearance. Yeah, I liked them. In terms of character, I prefer the original, much scarier, dirty, and more intimidating
Judgments greatest sin was the hugely lacking amount of content and post support.
D Blundz
I concur.
Really tripping over 1 weapon. And it’s 3 weapons and grenade vs 2 weapons and a grenade
Judgement feels like the halo 3 odst of gears of war. It's short, has a great story, things changed and the multi-player is okay.
Yeah it always felt like the halo reach of gears of war as well for me
@@InSayNayTay0137 So.
A good game?
Cuz the ODST analogy was spot on.
@@InSayNayTay0137 Reach is a great Halo game definitely better than 4 and 5.
I love this game, but I didn't hear any of the complaints here that I heard back when. People had problems with;
-The lack of playable Locust in the standard multiplayer
-The removal of Horde Mode
-The change in control scheme
-The nickel-&-diming with all the cosmetic DLC
-The focus on aesthetics like Armor & Weapon skins
-The lack of playable characters.
-The small-scale feel compared to Gears of War 3
-Cole not quite looking right (this also goes for Baird a bit)
-And my complain about the characters' personality/dialogue writing feeling a tad off.
Indeed, it’s one of my least favorites but it definitely left me a soft spot for it.
@@Dres2000 HOW DID YOU FIND ME HERE!?
I recently replayed ALL of the Gears games, & Judgment has aged really well, & is much better than I remembered!

Indeed... set original control setup and we good to go..
People saying gowj is bad are the same people saying gears 5 is the best gears game knowing damn well it’s not.

SAME I thought this was the best one!!!

Thank You Comrade, well you know what they say, "People Hate what they don't Understand".
I'll say I like grenades on the bumper, but not the weapon switching on Y
At least judgment stayed in the grey truism dark and griddy world unlike 4-5 which are colorful and lost its identity

Thoughts very similar dear viewer, "Judgment" was just the tip of the iceberg for so many different worlds to play in for Gears of War going forward.
I spent years on gears of war judgement's private matches (clan fights)... oh man gowj is definitely the game I most spent hours playing
No, we weren't wrong about Judgement. I'll go through why this game was a real step down from previous Gears games, split between the Campaign, Basic Gameplay, and Multiplayer.
Basic Gameplay:
- Two weapon limit basically makes pistols worthless and removes the D-pad from gameplay
- New grenade throw is lacks the buildup and satisfaction of the grenade throw from Gears 1-3
- Removal of Active Reload from many areas of the game
Campaign:
- Judgement divided the campaign up basically into set-piece after set-piece, removing the feeling of exploration and the story organically unfolding like Gears 1-3 did. It broke my immersion in the story and felt like I was playing an arcade game
- The new enemy type, the Rager, was stupid as hell and never should have made it into the game
- There is really only one boss fight in all of Judgement (the Berserker doesn't count - its not very hard and we've fought Berserkers before) and that was Karn. Gears 1-3 all had at least 3 that I can think of
Multiplayer:
- Removal of Locust from multiplayer matches, so its just red humans vs blue humans
- Poor map design
- Retro and Sawed-off remain in the game from Gears 3. Don't know how much Gears 3 multiplayer you played in its heyday but let me tell you these weapons caused more than a little controversy. Basically, both weapons required very little skill to use and were very powerful
- Removal of DBNO (down-but-not-out)
- No Horde mode, and before you say it Overrun and Survival were both trash and not worthy successors to OG Horde
I get you think that Gears 4 & 5 were bad, and I'd agree with you on Gears 4, but this doesn't make Judgement a good Gears game.
Womp womp cry me a river you little soft baby
Do give it a try, it is definitely worth it.
i played gears of war judgement and i loved it! i wonder if people still play it to this day
5:26 Ha he's joking right. You can't tell me that the lambent in 3 weren't scary, the grudges and gunkers bro I wouldn't go near them. Ye he's prob referring to the locust not the lambent but still......
I lived this game out as long as I possibly could and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I remember playing the campaign for Judgement and it was such a great experience, Dark, entertaining, and challenging af, especially if u did all of the declassified objectives. An amazing prequel game and a great Gears game
You know what I do wonder,
With Loomis, his personality, and development after the story, if he saw the hopeleness of defending Halvo Bay to death and pulled out rather than have the humans lose another important leader, how would he have fared?

I concur dear viewer, the changing of the controls to an FPS style game was not a wise creative decision. That was too much.

Unpopular opinion: they should make a gears of war about rhe penjulum wars
I think nowdays this opinion is more popular than ever)
Putting campaign aside, because I think the campaign was the best part of the game
The main problem I have with this Gears game is they had so many downgrades that they masked as something beneficial
1. No Locust in multiplayer
When I first heard this I was kinda upset, then I was told from Epic in some video that the main reason for the removal of the Locust from versus was because of there inconsistent hit boxes. Make it make sense
2. No downs
Another apparent upgrade that in reality was a downgrade, idk what they were tryna accomplish with that one, maybe a faster paced experience but all it did was take away those epic moments of saving/being saved at the last second just before getting killed, something that Gears always had from the start. Idk if this is true but I heard that the real reason for the removal of downs was because if it was implemented they would have to spend more development time on it
Which leads me to believe that Gears of War Judgment was just a shameless cash grab, and its why I regard this game as the 1st slap in the face from the devs to the fans, the other slaps would later come from The Coalition. Notice how Epic wasn’t planning on working on any other Gears games after Judgment, it was to be shelved…until Microsoft came in and bought it, only leaving me to think even more that it was just a cash grab
Not all things were bad tho in terms of Multiplayer, I think Overrun was a very good mode that just needed a little tweaking to be even better.
Judgement is to GOW like ODST is to HALO
I just didn't like that you can only carry two weapons and they switched how you switch guns and throw grenades and s***
The only bad thing about this game was they changed the controls and limited you to 2 guns instead of the normal “2 primary and 1 sidearm”.

We all love the campaign but the multiplayer is another thing
i played this many years after release because i thought it was just another average expansion that couldnt compete with gears 1,2,3. after playing it though I will say that this game has the best gameplay out of all the gears games. theres more emphasis on moving around instead of hiding behind cover. the action was so intense the framerate would drop like crazy haha. poor 360. the campaign was great because we got to see the chaos of e-day and watch former enemies team up. highly recommend this game.

I liked Judgement
Aftermath was cool and explained the UIR SUPPORT thing
And the campaign was *mwah*
I just starting playing this game and its one of the craziest games ive ever played the amount of locust that you fight is insane and i love it
This game had so many things I wanted gears to have.
This also changed other things, like the fact you can carry a shield and use a primary weapon now.
honestly judgement is one of my favourite gears games
Tried playing it again recently and honestly, the only thing that I don't like and stops me playing is the more arcade feel and the control changes. If they had just added a control option setting to bring back the d-pad weapon change I'd probably stand by it more.

Paduk is one of my favourite characters in fiction because we finally get to see a uir character and he’s actually kind of a bad ass
I’m replaying the game for the first time since it came out and it’s a lot better than I remembered it being.
Feel like it could have been a patch or dlc rather than a full price game
But man the campaign, the characters, the skins were real good I love all campiagns and judgement has a great one.
campaign and the extra campaign that shines a light on what happened with Cole and Baird. Beautiful.
The only thing that I actively hate about Judgement is throwing a damn grenade by accident because I'm trying to hit the tac/comms button from 1-3
Gear kicks ass no matter what these haters can go somewhere
