It’s ironic that they have a song called Simple Man because Paul Rodgers was Ronnie VanZant’s inspiration when he saw him with Free, and I think everyone has heard Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd, a song that Ronnie and Allen Collins wrote very early on in Skynyrd’s career. Both are great songs.
It was the Summer of 96, a workplace romance. She was amazing in every way, and I fell hopelessly in love for the first time. In the Fall she moved away, and never said another word to me. The day after she left, I hear this song on the radio for the very first time. For some reason, my favorite radio station decided to play this 20 year old song a dozen times a day for the next several weeks. Everytime I heard it, my heart was ripped open. This song means the world to me.

Suggestion: Live For The Music By: Bad Company I got to see them last summer in Columbus, OH. Years ago I saw them in the late 1970’s. My very first concert ever was to see Paul Rogers first super-group called FREE. That was way way back around 1969, maybe 1970, not quite sure because it gets a bit fuzzy trying to remember all the exact years. Any group that Paul Rogers fronts for is a super-group. One of the most underrated vocalist, frontman extraordinaire!
Most of us guys have fallen for a gal who ended up crushing them. We good ones came out the right side of that experience and moved on. I am one of the fortunate ones but let me tell you, when I hear songs like this, they really speak to me. I literally feel the pain that is so prevalent in his voice but also know the joy of rebirth.

Be sure to check out The Firm, a supergroup made up of Paul Rodgers on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, Chris Slade on drums, and Tony Franklin on bass. Their song “Satisfaction Guaranteed” will blow you away. As will their biggest hit, “Radioactive.” But keep the Bad Company groove going. There are so many great songs to explore: “Movin’ On,” “Burnin’ Sky,” “Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy,” “Gone, Gone, Gone,” and so many others. 🎧
