    ℹ️ About the episode:
In this episode, we finally make it to the Florida Keys. We stayed at tow very popular RV campgrounds both on last-minute reservations. North Beach Campground in St. Augustine and Long Point Campground State Park in Melbourne Beach, FL. Key West was our "Key" destination so we made those reservations about 1 month out, but everything else this "season" has been made on the way. Our strategy for reservations, and lack thereof, is outlined in the article - link above.

There seems to be a lot of concern this year about RV parks and campgrounds being booked solid and having no place to go. Yet, the way we travel by RV (and make reservations) hasn’t changed. In this article, we want to dispel some of the hype around campground reservations and provide you with some actionable advice to get out there and make your adventure happen.
But first, it’s important to acknowledge that the conclusions we make are almost always aligned with our beliefs.
What does that have to do with campground reservations? Let’s say someone buys into the idea that “everything is booked,” and their summer plans are doomed. He or she makes one phone call to a state park to learn that they are booked solid. Do they make a second phone call? Doubtful. The first phone call proved their point. It’s over. Pack it up and sell the RV!
Meanwhile, another RVer who does not have the idea that “everything is booked” calls a second campground, maybe a third, or even changes their exact destination or travel dates. They trade the adjustments for the memory of a lifetime.
Certainly, there are more RVers today due to borders being closed and limited international travel. We have the distinct advantage of having RV’d semi full-time for the past 5 years and being able to compare 2021 to 2020 and 2016.
Candidly, we can’t tell the difference.
There has never been a time during our 5 years of travel that a reservation was not required at a highly popular place during a popular time of year. The only difference between 2016 and 2021 is what or who we blame.
Click the button to continue reading and learn the approach we take when making reservations and what you can do this year to help you get out there even more! keepyourdaydream.com/rsvp

Excellent explanation! So often we are willing to buy into the doom and gloom that gets the ratings for the media and forget to consult those who are actually out there making it work. And even if there is some truth in the increased bookings, flexibility in life will open you up to adventures you never saw coming.

I agree with you Mark. When I was a travel nurse I never made reservations either as I traveled to an assignment or after I got there. I always had an adventure. I still go by that belief and I still have adventures.

If we are visiting out of state family and friends, we make reservations, otherwise we tend to travel on the fly. We don’t have to be in the best campground. We are just parking and visiting sites. We might have to stay overnight at Walmart if we can’t get into a campground for a night. You just have to be flexible.

I've camped in 5 state parks this year. I'm a snow bird. When I did this two years ago there were very few open sites. This year I'm seeing many open sites. None are long term and usually only a day. I think the lack of Canadians is a big reason for this.

How beautiful it must be to see your kids grow up on this channel and have these memories forever on TH-cam. Your channel inspires me to travel with my babies and husband- the plan is for me to go to nursing school (which I am taking my pre-reqs now) and become a travel nurse so I can travel the country and see it with my family. I can't thank you enough for the inspiration and the wonderful content.

Your idea is a great one. A friend did that. Had a class A with a jeep toad and moved from one place to another for jobs and explored on days off. She loves it and has seen so much of the country. Every other year, before covid, she would work 6 months and then park her rv and travel internationally the other 6 months since she was able to save money living in the rv.

Mark, You should have an aluminum rod with a loop handle on one end and a "hook" on the other end. I could stand flat-footed and use the hook to turn the awning securement knobs then grab the awning lanyard with the hook and pull it out. I hope my explaination makes sense.

Mark, I'm sure you know this but the awning pull rod is also used to 'spin' your top clamps. Insert the pull rod into one of the clamp holes whilst applying a bit of pressure on the awning arm then rotate. No jumping or step stool required.

So we are in a Classic 33 ft and pull it with a RAM 2500 (gas fuel). This is our first trip. So much to learn but one noteworthy is that there are many truck stops that cater to big trucks (diesel fuel) with big spaces for fueling and vehicles/cars/trucks (gas fuel) that don’t need wide area for fueling. In other words, at most gas stations, the diesel side is huge while the gas side is much smaller. So it’s a challenge to find gas stations that are roomy enough for our truck while pulling the Airstream. While this first trip is being cut short due to unforeseen circumstances, it has been an adventure and look forward to going back again.😊

As a FL Resident, and RV'r since 2013, it most certainly is different, the seasons for limited reservation options are longer. I used to be able to, at whim take a trip to Apalachicola and get a walk up reservation during certain times of the year, that's no longer true. The state parks here are packed because state parks in other places are closed by mandate. Instead, for vacation I went to New Mexico this winter, where all the state parks were closed and we ended up boon docking the entire trip in National Forests. It was wonderful and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Have you tried making an "upside-down fire" with the Solo Stove? Because of the increased airflow, you can put put your logs on the bottom, kindling on top, and the fire will burn its way down.

And before I was in South Florida, I had moved down there in 1984 from Anchorage, AK., I drove from Anchorage, AK., to here where I'm at now, Enumclaw, WA., just out side of Seattle/Tacoma, WA. Then onto South Florida. As i said above, I left in 2000, so now has been 21 years since I was down there. My how time passes so very fast!!! Best Wishes!!

For your awning….use your pole ( the short end) to unscrew your awning wheels and to set them off to the side. Latest LivinRVision YT video “Why No One Told Us” showed how to do this. No need for a step up to deploy your awning.

  • @donaldabston6840
    @donaldabston6840 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Pro tip: The awning locking wheels have holes in them so that you can lock, unlock, and move them with the long awning tool. The L-shaped end is made to fit into the holes. It requires that the shaft fits smoothly into the slot; sometimes it may require that you push/pull the arms to get a smooth fit.

We love St.Augustine!! My brother lives in Jacksonville. We go down each year. You should stop in at Ginnie springs on your way back. They’ve got camping sites you could reserve. Beautiful clear spring. :).

A little less than 8 years ago I was in the Keyes and one of the things I remember was the traffic and the roads. When you said you was tired after the drive I can imagine why.

Love you guys! Love watching your videos! But I am sooo very jealous right now! We have not seen the grass in over a month! Cold, snow, ice, more snow. That is what we have in Connecticut! You have sun, sand AND Margaritas!!! So jealous!

I personally love u guys. You remind me of my wife and in almost everything you two encounter. We aren't RVers yet but we are planning soon. Already ordered the truck among other things. I pray you and your family never have a terrible day in your life. You've identified things for me to obsess over (military in me) regarding planning and maintenance. Wish you could see how excited I look while typing this!!!!! God bless you three.

Another good RV park in St Augustine not on the beach is the Stagecoach RV Park. Its inland about 10 minutes from St Augustine. Nice and Quiet, new bathrooms and great folks all around. Easy to get to and short ride into St Augustine for night life. Great Video as always guys safe travels.

Long drive to the Keys for sure. We make the drive every summer pulling our boat from the Gulf Coast for the mini season. It's worth it though.

What an amazing Class A. In the future, it would be amazing to hear a little bit about the owners, and how they were able to become so successful to afford such a rig. As a young entrepreneur, these guys are living my dream!

SAFETY TIP!! We always recommend making sure to close your door AND put up your Steps before you go to roll off (or onto) your Anderson Levelers or any leveling blocks. Safety first and protect equipment! Safe and happy travels! We hope to get to St. Augustine at some point, glad you liked it, thanks for the video.

Great video as usual you two! Thanks for sharing a part of your lives with us. One suggestion, the paddle board looked a little underinflated when it was first used. Inflatable boards should "almost" feel ridged. They take a surprising amount of pressure to accomplish this. I'm a regular boarder and inflate mine to about 15-20 PSI. Take care!

Love love the Keys!!!!! So, we are from Texas and of course, we drive a big truck. Parking is premium. We stayed at a boutique hotel off Duval. My husband expressed his concern about the lack of secure parking to the manager when we checked in. We were told not be concerned. You would more than likely have your bicycle stolen than a big truck like ours!

Great show, we are big fans! The moment has come. I was offered early retirement (March 19)and to my surprise a generous buyout. We were gonna start out in our Classic 1978 GMC motorhome. Now we will upgrade and are shopping for a Class A Tiffen! So, I'm hoping that by Mid April we start our full time RV'ing. You guys have been a great inspiration. Hopefully, we will see you on the road. Oh, and it's even more sweet because I'm a survivor of a month long Covid 19 infection. Didn't think I'd live and didn't think I would be able to Keep this Daydream, but I made it through and I have immunity! We will start a channel also. I am retiring from being a morning radio show host. :) Bryan and Mary Green

Florida native here. Keys are fantastic and the chickens everywhere remind me of Hawaii, where they roam free as well. Except the people in the keys are much friendlier than Hawaiians…
Gotta try all the fantastic seafood while in the keys!

Like i do not know what that tire thing in sand was called but im betting it made a difference. Daydream: join the family and learn the trade :)
