It's a cool watch and I'm glad it has a Seiko movement, it will likely last longer than most timex watches. However $180 is a big ask from a company with the recent history of Timex. They're notorious for even their upper tier watches falling apart or completely failing within a few months to a year.
FYI: Inside the Time Q is a Hattori Japan Watch Movement - PC33 Quartz Movement ( $8.95 ) . I think a better, more reasonable movement choice to support the watches price would be the Genuine Seiko 3 Hand Quartz Watch Movement 7N43 Day And Date ( $19.95 ).

No TH-cam reviews make mention of the problem with the crown: When you push it in, presumably after taking advantage of the hacking feature and having set the time precisely, the minute hand jumps, either forward or backward, by maybe as much as two minutes. This makes setting a reliable time on this watch very difficult. These are beautiful pieces, but setting them is maddening.

It reminds me of that Hostess Craze from a few yrs back when a lot of people panicked and went on eBay and bought boxes of Twinkies for hundreds even thousands of dollars I believe there was one box of Twinkies that sold for like $10k? Then Hostess had found a new owner and that $10k box of Twinkies was being sold at Groceries stores for $4.00 lol.
I love this watch, I have really zero complaints. The only complaint I have is the price. If this watch was 30 to 50 USD cheaper, it would be amazing. But almost 200 USD for acrylic crystal and quartz, is quite a bit. Vostok gives you about the same thing for 100 dollars cheaper.
For everyone that keeps saying 180 is too much, a nice 40 dollar watch ecc ecc... Please give me an alternative. Tell me where I can find something similar. Go on. I'm seriously interested.
They're snobs...pay them no mind. The fact is there is nothing like this on the market right now unless a microbrand comes out with something. Is $180 too high? Yeah. But $12k is too high for what Rolex offers. This is Timex's own watch from their back catalogue, so they can charge what they want for it. Obviously people don't mind, since it's sold out twice. People who say buy an SKX009, Orient Mako or whatever don't get it. You buy those, you don't get THIS watch. I didn't want yet another 41mm automatic. I wanted this watch, with quartz, with the vintage case, with the acrylic crystal. So I bought this watch. It's not hard to understand. But some people are determined not to.

I appreciate your honest opinion about it I just picked one up I like it has its issues yes but I don't spend much on my watch collection so it's a nice piece to have in there for fun and no you were not overly negative just honest
The 21mm end links of the bracelet helps tremendously to make the watch look larger than it is. If that bracelet were only 18mm at it's widest point, it would make the whole piece look tiny on a large size wrist like my own. I'm seriously thinking about getting the green/black version. Wish I could afford one of every flavor. A good all metal ETA or Ronda, or higher end Seiko movement would've been nicer for the price point of the watch.
Great, honest review, Bruce. I think yours and Marc Goldberg’s reviews on the Q are the most informative I’ve seen so far. Bracelets like this yank every hair out of my arm, and I’ve got my first G-Shock coming, so I’ll be passing up on this.
I finally secured one after waiting for the restock, they sold out again in less than an hour. I'll go without before I support the scalpers. I waited patiently and the watch finally arrived. I proceeded to quick set the date and the day wheel was jammed. Whether it was damaged during shipping (it was bouncing around inside a large box)or a case of poor QC, My Q re-issue experience was less than optimal

I've been into watches since I was a kid and I've never been desensitized to price. Ever. If anyone wants to spend thousands on a watch go for it. It's just not me as there are so many great watches out there that are not thousands of dollars and after all it's just a watch.
I think anything that gets Timex more press is good. I think the watch is great and at 38mm it is not easy to find a similar piece at the price point! Im really looking forward to the navi XL Automatic release. at 41mm it should absolutely take every single sale that would have gone to the SKX
I payed €200 for my Citizen Promaster NY0085-19E in a watch shop. An automatic piece that's at least double the precision of a Seiko (and with aligned indices).
My standard advice for the Q is remove the bracelet, take a file & a couple grades of Emory cloth to the inside surface, smooth it out. Wash it off, put it back on the watch, size it *just* big enough to fit your wrist & the hair pulling will stop.
Hey Bruce another fine Video. Got this in the second reissue as the first time round went incredibly fast. Now having had mine for just around a month I’d say it’s okay but not great and probably over priced. But considering what I could sell it for I guess it’s fine if I want to recover what I spent. Personally not one I’ll keep will give it away as a gift. Christmas around the corner😃
Excellent. I bought my Marlin for 100 bucks. My 6 year old asked if she could have it. Was so happy to give it to her. She wears it on occasion. More than I would have
My advice...nice watch at $59-$79. So if you want a Timex which is a relative quality watch to price buy a Timex weekender that comes with the brown leather NATO strap. Nice. And only $35
@Bryan Davis They are based in Connecticut and go back to 1854 here in USA. Yes I realize the parent company is Dutch but that is the case with many companies these days like Busch, etc. At their core they are American. It's the guys in CT making the decisions and who represent the heart of the company. Most of their products are made in Philippines with just one model made in USA. Again not ideal true but at their core a great American company is what I meant.
If I went back in time and told non-watch collector me, "hey let's buy a Timex for $200." I would have beat my own ass. But you're right. Nowadays, that's like oh hey, a bargain.
I never understood the hype tbh. Its just a Timex Q and there are thousands on ebay. I'm glad that scalpers are now having to eat their cost in some cases..
Yeah I've always wanted one, but criminals here in Australia are charging as much as $350.00 for them. I can't seem to find a reasonably priced one. So he's definitely right about "scalpers".
It's a Timex Q ( Q for quartz), so a mechanical Seagull would make very little sense. Also the original from the 80s was quartz. But I see your point, some people are never happy..
This is the first review in which the reviewer said that the band was a hair puller. All the others I've seen said it was not. I'm thinking it might be more the wrist's fault than the watch band's.
Hey Bruce, great review!! Question for you though: do you find that the hands “jump” when setting the time? What I mean is if you have them lined up to the time you want and then push the crown in, the hands move to a different position. That’s happening on mine, and it admittedly drives me crazy. Just curious if you experienced that as well.
Thing about the Q Timex: the original was the company’s first attempt to market a quartz watch to a mass market audience. The sliding bracelet clasp and the coin-slot battery door were features that showed the owner could do their own maintenance instead of going to a jewellers for adjustments. So no, we’re not going to see a mechanical version of this watch; we may, however, be rooting for a mechanical model in their Expedition or Navi line.
It wouldn't be called the 'q' obviously but I could see a 40mm similar looking watch with one of the mechanicals put inside and of course a price increase
Have the all black version myself as I am not a fan of the Pepsi colour combo. G shocks . . . "ugly and chunky." LOL! Understates the case IMO. Can not for the life of me understand their popularity but popular they undeniably are. Thought I was the only one who found them unforgivably ugly. Very happy with this watch. Love watches with day/date.
It's not worth $180, but I get the appeal. So much so, I bought one at retail. The fact that I had to pay retail for a Timex is a bummer in itself, but such is life. It's all due to these TH-cam channels, and other social media driving demand and thus driving speculators to purchase and flip. Started at Rolex a couple years ago, and not trickling down to TIMEX, of all brands.
It is a very nice $59 watch....and yes it's very nice. Basically a Casio style cheapo hair pulling bracelet with a plastic crystal flimsy bidirectional bezel and crumby lime but...it's a very cool looking watch. But not at $179.
its a cool watch looking watch , Im considering picking one up my self. I really do love the look but this watch really should have at least 100m of water resistance. I dunno cant make up my mind right now
I don’t like people saying looks cheap, over hyped and the price should be like this blah blah blah.. guess what? it sells... and now a-days majority of consumers don’t appreciate horology. What matters nowadays they rather spent their money on vacation travels and gadgets.
I'd spend the extra $100 and buy a Dan Henry before this Timex. It retails for $229 CAD, I wouldn't spend that on a cheap Timex quartz. Likewise, I ordered a Dan Henry 1964 Chrono a couple days ago and with exchange, it came to $340 CAD.
Purchased and wore it while travelling in NY for 2 weeks. Can't beat the simplicity of a quartz watch - No need to wind. See my thoughts on my channel!
I don’t understand the hype around this watch. It’s a cheap quartz with mediocre case and bracelet. There’s nothing about it that distinguishes this from the usual Timex stuff sold at Walmart. I think it’s a decent $80 watch. Not $180.

I've been into watches since I was a kid and I've never been desensitized to price. Ever. If anyone wants to spend thousands on a watch go for it. It's just not me as there are so many great watches out there that are not thousands of dollars and after all it's just a watch.
First day with this awesome watch.
I like the simplicity of the watch
If they'd put an automatic in one of those, and sold it for 400$, they would sell like hotcakes (or... like a quartz Q, I guess... haha). Beautiful.
I think anything that gets Timex more press is good. I think the watch is great and at 38mm it is not easy to find a similar piece at the price point! Im really looking forward to the navi XL Automatic release. at 41mm it should absolutely take every single sale that would have gone to the SKX
Compare with sub- $200 watches from China with Miyota movements or NH35. With great lume. San Martin 62mas was recently $185
I payed €200 for my Citizen Promaster NY0085-19E in a watch shop. An automatic piece that's at least double the precision of a Seiko (and with aligned indices).
That Girard Perregaux Laureato is actually my grail watch.
sick watch ! filmed video with one ill be adding to my channel ! it was just as nice in person as you would expect.
it's hardly a $100 watch today...just ordered one yesterday 🎉
My standard advice for the Q is remove the bracelet, take a file & a couple grades of Emory cloth to the inside surface, smooth it out. Wash it off, put it back on the watch, size it *just* big enough to fit your wrist & the hair pulling will stop.
It is worry free fun, like a 009j
Nice. And only $35
Such a cool piece! Timex keeps killing it! Awesome American company! 👍
Thank you for an honest review.
Todd snyder website has them in stock now
Yeah I've always wanted one, but criminals here in Australia are charging as much as $350.00 for them. I can't seem to find a reasonably priced one.
So he's definitely right about "scalpers".
It's a Timex Q ( Q for quartz), so a mechanical Seagull would make very little sense. Also the original from the 80s was quartz. But I see your point, some people are never happy..
Always a Timex fan - but for $70 I have a quartz Invicta Pro Diver with Pepsi bezel that is much more stunning to look at.
This is the first review in which the reviewer said that the band was a hair puller. All the others I've seen said it was not. I'm thinking it might be more the wrist's fault than the watch band's.
I love the design but for those specs: MAX $100...
Honestly at 70€ I’ve seen better watches
but let’s not lie, it’s a good looking watch
@@benny71555 thats what it has going for it, all looks
should have 100m of water resistance
We in india getting at 89$. LoL
Can we use this as a diving watch
Hey Bruce, great review!! Question for you though: do you find that the hands “jump” when setting the time? What I mean is if you have them lined up to the time you want and then push the crown in, the hands move to a different position. That’s happening on mine, and it admittedly drives me crazy. Just curious if you experienced that as well.
Mine too. And read lots of comments with the same. Wish it lined up. The movement is super accurate hasn't lost a second in two weeks.
I didn't notice it on this one, but my Marlin does it
Thing about the Q Timex: the original was the company’s first attempt to market a quartz watch to a mass market audience.
What is the accuracy of this watch? Any idea how roughly how long the Seiko movement will last?
Well said Brice. Thanks
Is it good if i get this for 120 $ ?
Wearing my Hair Puller as I watch this! 😂 it is cool tho, good one Bruce
Hello Bruce,179+50=SKX009K.its way worth the extra 50.00 for the K.
They got the retro look right, but give me a break. $179? The gouging began with Timex!
I’m interested, how do we proceed the sale from here?
Great review Mr. Bruce Wayne....williams
Is the second hand loud?
The only problem with that watch is that it should be $75. Timex is smoking the good stuff with some of their quartz watch prices.
At this price point, I’ll stick with Vostok. Their bracelets pull hair as well. Got to say though, the Marlin is a very pretty piece.
The compliments ( mostly non watch game people) i get on this watch is 4x the compliments i got from some of my watches 4x the price
its a cool watch looking watch , Im considering picking one up my self. I really do love the look but this watch really should have at least 100m of water resistance. I dunno cant make up my mind right now
Bruce, what would you choose: Timex Q or Seiko SNZH57 (Fifty Five Fathoms). Asking for a friend....
I would save and buy a Seiko turtle personally lol
Party Bees Seiko all day
I have that Seiko and love it!!! Gonna get this Timex too👍
I don’t like people saying looks cheap, over hyped and the price should be like this blah blah blah.. guess what? it sells... and now a-days majority of consumers don’t appreciate horology. What matters nowadays they rather spent their money on vacation travels and gadgets.
Well said
$45 - $60 watch max IMO. Anything over that Vostok reigns!
I bought one from Timex for $156. Haven't opened it and to be honest I don't know why I bought it. Might just return it or give it away
How much to take it off your hands?
thumbs up for the new voice;)
Purchased and wore it while travelling in NY for 2 weeks. Can't beat the simplicity of a quartz watch - No need to wind. See my thoughts on my channel!
Nice watch but a little bit expansive. For this price you can have a nice Seiko 5.
I don’t understand the hype around this watch. It’s a cheap quartz with mediocre case and bracelet. There’s nothing about it that distinguishes this from the usual Timex stuff sold at Walmart. I think it’s a decent $80 watch. Not $180.
it'd about the looks, cause it's a pepai thats very popular nowadays...not so hard to understand, don't be a hater
"limited editions" make people go crazy for "okay" products
@@Makul-rt4sz it doesn't cost $180 to put a Pepsi bezel on a watch
