    Fio being very last human to be reincarnated is so Yoko Taro. The best of humanity is an innocent little girl who only wanted to make friends.

    The thing about Zero and Kainé being special beings, is them being singularities - beings that can create branches in the timelines.
    The quantum server admins referred to Kainé as a singularity in Replicant and as you showed at 5:50 the Pods refer to Levania as the singularity in this instance of Reincarnation's story.

    • @jaron95
      @jaron95 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Something the Administrator discovered was that timelines can branch based on the decisions that people make. We had to make one such decision when we see Him create Her; if we choose not to, the scene loops and replays until we choose the other option. However, the Drakengard definition of a Singularity states that these (people,places,things) can cause branches across multiple timelines, which I believe is the key difference.

    • @Nparalelo
      @Nparalelo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      And the singularities are up until now only playable characters. The player (prayer) then surely has importance to it, giving the character the power to defy fate, defy divine will (quite literally in automata).
      With how much yoko taro likes to use the fourth wall, it might eventually be adressed more openly.

    • @jaron95
      @jaron95 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@Nparalelo True. In fact, it kind of already happened with Rein. Wasn't it our connection to Levania that allowed us to use the memories from The Cage to create our loadout for the final battle? Seems like you're spot on with that theory.

    • @raviole
      @raviole 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      it isn't exclusive to just beings. It can be anything that causes a divergence, like a place (cathedral city) or thing can be a singularity too.

  • @Keriaku
    @Keriaku 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    Absolutely loved the ending. I really appreciate the conclusion for all the meta elements of the game with the 'thanks for praying' line. It really validated the feeling that our engagement with the game has been an active force helping all these characters more forward/transcend/reincarnate. Playing Reincarnation really has been a very special experience.
    My interpretation of the ending world with Fio/Her/Android/Robot is that the systems that exist are what created Her's intense loneliness, and if those systems remain intact, that hierarchy and power imbalance would always lead to someone being isolated and alone. Therefore, the ending to me reads as a reconstructed world where there are no such power imbalances. God has been dragged down to mortality and humanity has reincarnated, and all four of these beings are equally alive and free to live their lives together. It's breaking down the divisions of who deserves life and humanity, something the Nier series has been examining from the beginning. What this means specifically would be for a future entry to shine light on, but that's how I read the ending.

    • @cabbagechannel7874
      @cabbagechannel7874  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nier Reincarnation was special because it often reminded us that we were playing a mobile game and it really played up the unique strength of a mobile game in storytelling where all of us experience the new chapter together.
      And really interesting interpretation, makes me want to look into the hierarchies more! For me a similar revelation came with Nier Replicant, the protagonist and all the other vessels seemed more human than the gestalts and it made me ask Who deserves the human bodies? It's not an easy question to answer

    • @Nparalelo
      @Nparalelo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@cabbagechannel7874this is why I think that in the ending it's one mama giving all those memories to 'our' mama, the mama that lives in the app in out cellphone. Basically saying 'now it's up to you to preserve these memories'.

  • @Ultima_Muramasa
    @Ultima_Muramasa 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    The twist of the main cast being essentially sentent AI based on past lives actually is a very deep subject. It brings to question about the future of humanity, and it reminded me of the route that the novel Ready Player Two went with the concept. What makes humanity? Is it memories? Experiences? Whats in the heart?What will happen if you were to copy your conscience with all your memories and were backed up on a data base, and its now two of you? And what would happen if the other you were to continue living after you die? What is interesting is that Rein never push this directly to where you are reminded that the characters in the Cage are not real beings but copies. People who died at various points in their lives, but it was something special about their spirit that are singularities that can change the future of humanity even in death. What if someone copied you and years from now or some parallel world you were the key to saving everone, but you living today will never know about it.

    • @Ultima_Muramasa
      @Ultima_Muramasa 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To add the reason as to why there wasn't closer to these stories is that basically all the characters are in a digital purgatory, stuck in a moment in time before their deaths with no real future afterwards due to it not existing.

    • @cabbagechannel7874
      @cabbagechannel7874  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Fascinating questions! I feel like different Nier games have different answers to What is humanity? or What is human? and I want to look into that.
      And I agree that as the characters were presented in People World, they were just copies or projections of people that lived previously so that also put some distance between me and them

    • @Ultima_Muramasa
      @Ultima_Muramasa 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cabbagechannel7874It made it a little more bearable, since at the end the characters didn't have any idea what will happen to them once they return to their own world. The Cage of Rebirth event ending did reinforce my theories. There is so much to unwrap. I wasn't expecting a sequel announcement in Rein, but i think we'll have to wait to see where or how the Automata Anime ends to get further answers.

    It's not the ending I was hoping for (humanity being restored), but it's an ending I more or less expected in a series like Nier. I feel like true closure to the story is difficult to come by in video games these days, especially those with many sequels. When (if?) there is a Nier 4, I would like to see if humanity somehow gets restored, and if not, what the fate of humanity's memories and data are and what purpose they continue to serve.

    My two pennies on some of the plot points:
    *The whole reincarnation thing feels more like flavour or theming. Cycles and repeating history are recurring themes in the whole series.
    *I get the feeling Mama and Accord aren't strictly one created the other, but partners if they're related at all.
    *It feels like the people from the Stories carry knowledge back into the stories, allowing them to create more branches that allow better outcomes. We don't know. It's beyond our sight as players. The stories and characters now live on beyond us (a key recurring theme in Drakengard/Nier)
    *Yuzuki and Hina are confirmed to come from a branch of history where the Legion war never happened, ergo the normal world. A world where humans haven't been wiped out by WCS. That may be the future Mama/Accord have been creating and protecting.
    *It's stated Her's realm is an intermediate area where the real world and data world are mingling, so Mama probably made use of it to make Fio and Her physical beings, but could only stretch things to allow her to do so.
    Also...WHERE IS THE FINAL ARCHIVE?! I MUST READ IT! THAT LOOKS CRUCIAL! LEVANIA IS A SINGULARITY LIKE KAINE AND ZERO! AND THAT'S THE AUTOMATA PODS TALKING TO EACH OTHER!

    Zero and Kaine are singularities. As I understand, A2 is possibly a singularity, but apparently that isn't as confirmed as I thought it was, and there has been some speculation that either Pod 153 or 042 are actually the singularity in that story.

    • @flowerremoon

      And as mentioned at 5:50 - Levania is the singularity that allowed Reincarnation to end the way it did

      The Pods in Nier Automata & Reincarnation, even if they aren't singularities, they're as important as singularities at this point.
      Pod 042 & Pod 153 gained emotions (& consciousness), they saved 2B 9S A2, against all odds.
      Pod 006 gained emotions (& consciousness), Mama & humans data saved the Cage & the Administrator "Her" & androids and machine lifeforms, against all odds.

    • @JohnCliver
      @JohnCliver 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I like the struggle A2 has with why she survived and after all that time in isolation finding herself playing a role in significant events concluding the Automata story.
      With receiving 2B’s sword/memory and also the hint of the connection with Kainé (in the final Emil encounter) It ends up feeling like there’s ether there’s more to be revealed about her or possibly a further role for her to play.
      I never thought much about the moment A2 cuts her hair but that’s a visual change she initiates. Symbolic of an internal change or self-perception/outlook? Or an escape…cutting the ties of her creation as a machine of war.

    • @raviole

    Fío was reincarnated because magic (maso) is intergraded into yorha technology and nier future technology think about the angelic script blast from the pods and the weapons stories in automata having magical properties. This explains why they can do crazy things in the automata and post automata timeline.
    As for the final boss I thought it was anti climactic but the story made sense but also raised more questions, like what about the watches ?

  • @danvocals123

    Great video I'm always glad to hear someone else grappling with the abstractness of the story.
    I really like your idea of finding a timeline where humanity never needed to be revived! It's very interesting
    My only personal takeaway for a next entry was seeing the machines and androids get up in a post "red girl being absorbed by the administrator who is now friends with fio" world is maybe you could find a more relatively peaceful world.
    That cancelled tencent mobile game that could've been a character gacha action game I definitely could've seen making use of that portion of the ending.
    But it is hard to see a next story point. So much got tied up here. The moon server has always been a cool background point. It still exists here. The administrators were contextualized and "dealt" with.
    I genuinely don't know what else I would like to see. I think it'll be a challenge but I also think reincarnation did a really good job

      I kind of feel with this conclusion of the machine lifeforms and androids living in peace on Earth that there is nothing more to explore, story-wise. I also have trouble imagining where and when the next Nier game could take place but maybe it could be across different time(line)s!

    I started with Yuzuki during my first playthrough in the Sun and the Moon, there was a dialogue during early play where Yuzuki says the Cage he's running through feels like a mobo game he played. He also stated that the game's name is Reincarnation (well he did not finish his sentence and got interrupted by Dark Mama).
    Now if we look at the ending where your phone got updated with reincarnation app, then the lore just gets more interesting. I am not sure what the phone and app are implying in the People/World.

    I forgot this was your entry point to the nier universe. Having previously played Automata and Replicant (and watching lore videos covering the previous games), it was great to see the tie ins…especially the weight given to Kainé’s contribution from the administrator’s perspective.
    Do you think there’s significance to replicant’s use of the VAs for 2B/9S for the administrators? I don’t know if that was just the English cast or was also in the Japanese

    Something really interesting is that in the final Lost Archive, Levania is mentioned as a singularity, in Drag on Dragoon 3 we were introduced to Singularities by Accord, those are beings that are capable of branching the timelines with their decisions (for example, Kainé is one as well, YT never said who was the Singularity in Automata, it could be either the Pods, 9S and/or A2.)
    Did Carrier knew Levania was this important and that's why he tried to mess with his story that much during Arc 1?

    It seemed to me that Fio was “Reincarnated” (get it haha). Her 2-star costume was even removed from the Cage due to her not being in the Cage anymore. Maybe that’s her reward for atoning for her “sin” so completely? Maybe it’s because she chose to stay for the Administrator that she was allowed to stay on earth? I’m open to discussion on that.
    Maybe in the next game Fio, 2B, and 9S will be the protags, venturing across the multiple timelines in the Cage, searching for where to prevent human extinction.

    I was dreading the ending (I hate goodbyes) and managed to see it just under the wire late last night! I was surprised by how uplifting and hopeful it ended up being. Fio really got to shine as the heroine finally, which felt so sweet in the face of all that she had been through. I love the consistent message in the NieR games that the best of humanity is neither great intelligence nor power, but kindness and empathy in the face of all the reasons we have to kill those feelings. Truly, Fio is the best representative of that moral. There is an easy to miss message when you return to Mama's Room after the credits that says Fio is reborn and her 2 star character becomes inaccessible. This seemed to imply she really did get reincarnated.
    One of the coolest things about this ending is it made me hopeful that the next game (whenever that is!) will find a way to incorporate these beloved characters across the three games into a greater search for the promised timeline. While most of the Rein characters will probably only be present as easter eggs in weapon descriptions, this raises the possibility that at least one of the important characters that featured in the final chapter could be the main character in the next NieR.
    Thank you Cabbage for all your coverage of this game over the years! I really appreciated it and all the Japanese exclusive info you shared I did not see covered anywhere else. 🙏

    Can't believe the Re[in]carnation journey is over... I feel a bit lost now, but thanks for your analysis and input on this , especially the gatcha parts and translations, as someone new to mobile gatcha games it was very helpful. I was the one who theorised on Fio being a singularity like Kaine and Zero, I was close as it turned out to be Lavania, so it seems it was through Lavania that we were able as players to channel our "prayers" to reincarnate Fio and make "Administrator/Her" real again, in the same way Kaine let us sacrifice her save data to bring back "Nier". That does leave a big gaping hole as to who or what Lavania is, is he a memory, a story, a nightmare or an actual being that exists somewhere in the taroverse? I hope we get some clarity on that at some point, and really happy that 10H survived, not sure if it was just her data but nice to see.

    The way you describe how the characters from the cage simply return to it, really gives that portion a story a sort of "it was all just a dream" vibe that I don't love, but I understand it. This ending also kind of justifies the haters in NOT playing the game, though indirectly, where they can essentially just watch from 10H and on and get all they need to know for whatever is next for the series.
    When it was revealed that the cage represented the memories of humanity that were shot into the moon in Automata, my jaw dropped and it was a surreal feeling to think that, in my phone, I held all of humanity. An incredible, fourth-wall breaking moment of sorts. But the way the stories get tucked back into place and the "real" narrative continuing Automata left me kind of feeling odd about investing so much in these characters. I still have a few RoD stories to read, but they almost seem inconsequential now for some reason. I don't think this is a criticism of the ending, but more of the feeling I'm left with. It was still very emotional and enjoyable to go through and see how it unfolded, but yeah I don't know haha. I was loving the whole final chapter and the revelations and new questions right up until the end. Maybe it was all the expectation for it and then the ambiguity of all these open-ended questions just felt anticlimactic.
    A question: is it explained why Fio/Levania and Yuzuki/Hina are able to roam around the cage? I thought Hina and Yuzuki in particular were going to get some special ending, even hinted by the dialogue at the very end where Mama said something to that extent for plans for their future (though not specifically).

    • @cabbagechannel7874

      I understand your feelings about how from a pure Nier lore perspective, 10H and on is what's necessary and how on a certain level the rest of the Reincarnation characters are just adjacent. And like you said, it's understandable. But I look at it like this was a chance for the creators to do something different with Nier, show different times and places but with that familiar tone.
      And right, the idea that each of our phones is The Cage and we each have our own Mama was so cool. Yoko Taro knew exactly what he was doing and what he wanted to say with the mobile game platform. I agree that a lot of threads are left hanging with this ending, unfortunately, but I still encourage you to get all the Recollections of Dusk stories! It's actually not very common in mobile games for characters to get definitive conclusions, partly because most mobile games are trying to make money and last as long as possible.
      Good question about the Travelers in the Cage, they didn't end up answering that, ha ha. Just my interpretation but I still feel Hina and Yuzuki were created projections and that their Dark Memory versions were their real lives. Fio and Levania, I don't know!

      @@cabbagechannel7874 yes, I agree that this is one of the best uses of a “spin-off” that I’ve ever seen. The characters were genuinely cool and interesting on their own, and we connected with them even on a gameplay level. Absolutely love the RoD and everything else narrative-wise because the game really finds a way to tell a story, even impressionistically, everywhere it could. From weapon stories to even a little story with each new costume.
      But yeah I think, concerning the ending, it wasn’t so much that the new characters don’t matter as much as that the ending seemed to be trying to resolve two stories at once. And so theirs felt overshadowed a bit. But I do like your reading and it has me thinking about it too-that idea of the memories and their significance in and of themselves. It does mirror the memory this game will become for us who played it. Even if we screen record, screen shot, or even write about it, the memories we have of our experience will be the most important and it’s there where the game will really live on. Our mind Cage :)

    I think I just learned abt this game during your stream 😅. I had no idea that this was a mobile game. I have an IPad Air so I think it’s worth a shot trying it out, right? The only mobile game I play is Brawl Stars, and that’s only because I got it as a soon as it came out and I’m quite good imo. So I think it’s time I try out a new mobile game that might keep me entertained for a while 😂😅. Anyway I have no idea what you were speaking abt here but it looks cool. Cya next stream, bye 👋

      The game disappears at the end of April so take this chance to play it! If you try it let me know what you think. Thanks for watching the streams!

    I liked the ending, though trying to figure out what was in the virtual world & the real world wasn't easy. There were a couple of things here and there but over all it was a good ending.

    Actually my question towards the game is, why is Nierverse's history keeps repeating itself? I understand that characters in weapons can reborn as the history recorded in a weapon is limited just like a video. When a video finishes it can replay, but why is Nierver's history repeating itself?I am sure the universe still goes on without humanity and andriods and machine lifeforms. So just what happened that causes the loop? universe destruction? or maybe something from Drakengard?

      Perhaps it does really go on, but the administrator just observes what is important to mankind, so after even the machines and androids are gone, he goes to see the past again. No need to see a dead rock floating for eons on a dead space.

    Since you dont seem to recognize Zero, I was wondering if you knew the Drakenguard games are a prequel to near, some far more relevant then others, such as 1 and I think 3.

    So Accord is looking for Steins Gate?

      What’s that?

      @@cabbagechannel7874it is a visual novel (and a very good one, I might say! The anime is phenomenal as well.) To explain it in Nier terms, the MC of Steins;Gate is a Singularity looking for the best of all timelines to prevent a world-ending catastrophe while protecting the people he loves.

    EoS is upon us. Time for me to redownload to play through the final story arc.
    It has to be said, however, that coming back has been kind of ... what's the opposite of nostalgia? Everywhere I look I'm reminded "oh yeah, the UI was terrible" or "oh right, *this* was their idea for endgame" or "Exalting, what a boring powercreep". I'm glad I took my leave before Karma rolled out because yikes.
    I'm excited to be back for the story, but I sure havent missed the rest of the experience. Hoping the event quest stories and RoD will be archived somewhere so I can see everything I missed. One can only hope Nier4 has gameplay/mechanics on par with its storytelling as it deserves.

      I think with every mobile we get to a point where we have had enough, ha ha. I loved Monster Strike but one day opening the app made me go “ugh” and I knew I couldn’t go on. I hope the story is worth your time!

      I'm sure it will be! I greatly enjoyed the first two arcs, even without the more obvious connections to the greater universe.
