I haven't used a lance in 25 years, but when we got it it made life so much easier. I can't even count how many pins we drove out. You certainly learned real quick to let the sledge do the work..

Here's a tip for you. After you punch it through and it's red hot stay it with a water hose until cool to the tough. That slows the pin to shrink into the hole u cut. It will relieve .006". It will walk right out. I use the same technique for removing broken bolts. Drill a hole through the center, head with a small brazing head, quench maybe smack with a punch and hammer to loosen it and it will walk right out!

I do alot of work on vessels, the way we do pins is to weld on a 30mm thread nut, then draw them out with either a 30t or 60t hollow jack, it has been known to have to hot lance the bitches, but usually we get them pulled.

@@stevegauld8456 A great technic for sure, but most field guys use the lance and quench method. Quicker and we have the tools on our truck. No pumps, pull rods (with good threads), and puller sleeve required.I will say at 55 I moved from the B/O and 20 lbs. baby beater to the Safety Sledge. I love it! Worth the investment!

@Jason Wilber ye for sure it is, but lots of the vessels don't really like them and the procedures we have to put in place is a ball ache, they don't like the amount of fire risk they pose, as you'll be aware there is lots of lava, which is ok in a workshop but when your on deck and 20000 tonnes of fuel etc.

I had a mobile welder come out and do that for me once to on a Volvo loading shovel bucket pin.
Immediately hit it straight down the freshly lanced hole with a water hose, couple of seconds heard a loud 'crack' and I shit you not, could see a small crack of daylight around the pin - bloody incredible. One whack with a 4ib copper hammer drive it all the way out.

Hollow ram jack would of made easy work of that, weld a piece m30 threaded bar (1 and a quarter bananas to the USA folks) to the end of the pin and pull it out.
Done bigger pins with a 60 tonne hollow rams.

Proper PPE while using an oxygen lance is recommended.
At least wear a face shield and a respirator.

When you finally said ,"we getting some ear plugs ,I knew that we have to mention or ask ,where's the hard hats ,when lifting heavy thing ,eye protection, ear muffs or plus and when lancing ,a welding helmet or full face protection, and you need to watch the hor sparks and embers getting down your shirt ,they burn and can create cancers or even set you on fire ,maybe time to assess the safety procedures for all involved .
Would hydraulic pressing those pins work ,press them from the inside ?that's the front hat pins ?

Guys you see how its moving when you remove the first pin? Maybe you have easier time pulling out them pins if you stop it from resting on them :D
