NOTE: As per update 1.1.3, the Antenna progress lock bug has been fixed so you can hopefully ignore that part of my review. Materials also acquire faster and the zone implodes at a slower rate, making life a bit easier.
The devs are Chads who decided to experiment and do their own thing to give us a game so unique!!!
Really nice to play something so cohesive and smart.
Feels like trying to get gold in a timed event on snow runner. That one bridge could ruin your whole day. “Don’t fall asleep. DONT FALL ASLEEP”

I hadn't actually heard about it until I read a preview a month ago and then I was very curious to play it. Definitely a surprise hit of 2024.

I live in the Canadian Pacific Northwest and this looks so X-Files-ish (the original X-Files seasons happened to be filmed right where I live). Very cool.
Nice, would love to see. I binge watched the entire X-Files series during the COVID lockdowns. Epic show.
Just got through the tutorial and did my first trip last night and i tell you some of the best atmospheric audio ever. First crack of thunder and lightning rung through my ears
I didn't really mention the audio because I tried to play some and the review was pretty long already. But you're right, it's excellent. Truly creepy.

I lived on the Olympic Peninsula in the 1990s so I cant wait to see how the area looks in the game. Thanks for the review!

I also lived around that area, in the 90's, and I currently live an hour north of Seattle. So between the 90's nostalgia, the location, and the fact it centers around a car (I'm a petrolhead...lol), I was immediately drawn into this game. The fact that it gives off heavy Outer Wilds meets Subnautica vibes just added to it's appeal. Now that I'm playing it, I can't recommend it enough. It's incredibly addicting. You'll find yourself saying "Just one more run" often. Amazing game.

@@ShonnDayleeIt really is, I am working my way through getting every upgrade. Those Olympium Fragments are holding back progress! Outer Wilds and Subnautica are on my list to sink some time into (Steam sales for the win lol). Really hoping there is some epic Pacific Drive DLC content down the road. Ghost hunting, perhaps?

Indy developers are single-handedly keeping the gaming ecosystem alive. The only games I’ve enjoyed over the recent years are mostly low budget and small team development studios. This game looks amazing and has come a long way since it’s early access years ago. Excited to jump in soon and play it myself!
I actually took out a paragraph about the fact I haven't loved many videogames in recent years. So much cookie cutter design. Pacific Drive deserves any success it gets and I hope it inspires others. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

You couldn't be more right. The most interesting games coming out these days are almost exclusively from small independent studios.
the trauma from my summer car is already enough of a reason for me to not mess with the anomalies in pacific drive
No one needs this kind of trauma (but it is so much fun!).
So its a CaRPG (sorry, couldn’t resist) with some roguelite elements?

Use vacum cleaner in your garage near computer where you learn new recipes after you scrap a lot of items saves time and don't need to pick them all up one by one
I have 40+ hours in and only 70% of the story completed I hope that in future there will be dlc this game is amazing
SPOILER AHEAD
So first of all, really enjoyed the game. That being said, I feel like the ending was disappointing. We never figure out what the LIM waves actually ARE. We never figure out the source. We never figure out what caused the hallucinations (not really.) Why are there ARDA TV's everywhere on the last mission? Why are there 'launch site' signs everywhere? Multiple mentions of UFO's and Aliens, and yet nothing about that in the ending. Then Oppy just says "oh my husband might still be alive oh well I'm out" and leaves me and Francis alone? Like bruh the whole point was that I was trying to GTFO of the walls, and escape the exclusion zone. I don't know... just really dissatisfied, but it may just be a personal thing. I dislike when stories don't end and don't explain anything.
Or did I miss something?
I think this game has just gone to the top of my wishlist! Looks fab, very original and immersive

Your reviews are always very well scripted and informative. I think I'll give Pacific Drive a try. It fuses together so many different aspects I've liked in other games. And as you said in the previous video, its price is more than fair for what it offers and the level of polish. Cheers! //Rick
Thanks, Rick. Quite a big update has been added recently so it's actually a bit less intense in terms of materials. Hopefully it floats your boat when you plan it!

I LOVE this game. Now....Pacific drive 2 : You and three friends go out on a camping trip only to get sucked into the exclusion zone. One car.. each person can controll turret type things on the car or just shoot flair guns out the windows, everyone does everything they can to keep the only thing thats keeping them alive.. the car... up and running. Someone make it happen

@@ATribeCalledCarsmy personal take is that it’s pretty unnecessary and kinda dropkicked me out of the immersion seeing all the flags and political crap in a spooky car game. It’s like if you were playing an FPS and suddenly there’s a literal clown posse jumping your team and it’s never mentioned again. Bad example but it’s definitely odd.
My personal fix for this is to not include it in the main game. But add it on the steam page as a free DLC. Like “here’s the pride pack!” And “here’s a chibi pack!”(with cute animals idk) just saying.

@@mathewallen9813 The sheer absurd number of alphabet flags that instantly become available with your detail station had me thinking the devs were straight up mocking Seattle and the PNW. I'm still not entirely sure.
Excellent vid Ben really enjoyed that one! I cannot quite decide if i like it but it has lots to offer and is visually beautiful and impressive. I think i will ponder it for a bit first. Been waiting for this review for a while now, nice one great stuff and love all the information you got into it👍
Cheers, Al! It is a great game while it lasts (which for me is 70 hours or so). It will not be everyone's cup of tea, but it really is unlike anything else I have played. Maybe go for it in a sale if unsure (or try the demo if on PC).
I've been so pumped about this game, ans your review makes me want it even more. But...I really wanted to play it on Steam Deck but the demo ran terribly...even on the lowest settings (which looked unbearably ugly), it couldnt hold 30, dropping into the low 20s. I'm hopeful it will get optimized a bit over time.
I noticed a video about Pacific Drive on Steam Deck on TH-cam, might've been of the full game. A few people have said it's not great at the moment but I haven't bought the OLED version yet and the first update does mention some performance stuff!

It does not show up in the control options, but then maybe it only does when you connect a wheel and I have not yet tried. Would be good!

You seem like a bit of a glutton for punishment as they say when describing the game as 'brutal and unforgiving' and saying that you couldn't stop playing because of it lol. That's what my friends say about me for playing Snowrunner though. They think it's too much work for a game.
Lol yeah I don't really have as much patience these days but for some reason old SnowRunner and Pacific Drive are worth the occasional misery. Maybe they can add the Tayga King to the Olympic Exclusion Zone...
I’ve been playing this game for the last few days and even though the performance is not great on PlayStation five, I’m still enjoying it a lot and I think about it when I’m not playing lol

The Game is as Easy or as hard as you'd like it to be which no Video reviews tells you. You can customize the accessibility options and make the games difficulty however you want at anytime. Be better at your reviews people and you'd know if you explored all options settings of every game. 😉 👍

I actually did. Also, in doing so, you cannot earn achievements. Not only that, I play the game as intended and I suspect other reviewers have done the same. But, sure, if you want to make it ridiculously easy and break what makes the game special by all means.

my only problem with the game is that it is not inclusive. When you unlock the decal station it has a flag for everyone but straight people.
A game shouldn't need to have straight stuff or gay stuff or all the flags for you to enjoy it.

It's more fun to slow it down so I sound drunk.
I just lost my run because the menu glitched and I couldn't back out. Devs need to give save option I do not care if it's not how this game is supposed to be played.

I refunded the game. For me it's just too much UI and text. Can't immerse in the game with so much crap on the screen.
I kinda start to hate all this craffting and gathering all the time.
Cool concept but i fon't have the patience anymore.
It gets less obtrusive but fair enough. Maybe some user-interface options would be cool for those who know what to do?
Yeah, the game is great overall, but to be honest UI is terrible, especially on controller. I hope they will make some changes.
