I keep my lot on a optimiser and switch it between bikes, I never understand people that think it's better to run a battery straight down because optimsers are bad for your battery's. . I have mots for the vans, car now and the bikes are set for April so not too bad.
I have 2 optimisers, one for lithium and one for regular bike batteries as half my bikes are regular, half Lithium... I just need to remember to plug in any bikes that will be sitting for a while, although the lithium batteries are generally pretty good even left a while.
My bikes are tucked away in the garage at the moment, with battery tenders and a heater on. There's ice on the ground and discretion is the better part of valour. The Himalayan is due its first MOT by the end of the month so I hope the temperatures increase at least a little. Even when it's cold and it's just a straight road it's beautiful in the South West 😅

My bike insurance on all my bikes runs out at the start of January... super annoying straight after the holiday break as it means it is hard to get hold of companies to get a quote unless I pre-empt it at the beginning of December and I am never that organised! 😀
@@wsmv Nah, where I'm at, we don't get TOO cold. Around freezing is usually it. We are in the middle of a really cold snap though, so temps in the teens at night, and 20s to low 30s during the day. This is uncommon for us.

I wussed out last year. My MOT on my quick bike had moved to January because of Covid. There was far too much ice and salt so now my MOT is in March 😀 Happy you didn't need to use 'the thumbnail'.
I enjoy riding my 2013 Sportster too. It has character. However, having ridden it throughout the year for the past 3 or 4 years when I took it for a service and MoT back in October I noticed that the paint was peeling off the rear fender and belt guard and looking to start peeling on the front fender. It looks like the paint was applied straight onto bare metal with no primer. So, I am now in the position that I have taken it off the road in order to remove the tin ware and get it repainted. It will also give me time to repolish the engine castings which have dulled and also been affected when I sprayed it with Jennychem snow foam in order to clean it - warning DO NOT use this on a bike with bare metal. To keep me mobile I recently bought a BMW G310GS which is a hoot to ride, 90 kg lighter and on my first fuel up (tank to tank) got just shy of 82 mpg (UK gallons). Both bikes have been fitted with hand guards and a loom so I can use my heated jacket and gloves and additionally the GS has heated grips. Ride safe and keep warm.

You all take vehicle inspections so seriously over there. Our police here in Virginia allow a little time before they ticket people for inspection. Meaning a month or two out of date., so with in a couple years of being late, a motorcycle can be moved from a January inspection to a April inspection which is what i did with my W800. 😂 glad its done and you did not have problems.😊
Yeah it's pretty black and white here, except there is an understanding that you can drive to a test station if you have an inspe tion booked there. Sadly if you have an accident on the way your insurance will probably argue that your bike/car isn't road worthy 😔
@@jimsadler8704 it is a ticket here, but they can not pull you over for it just for that. they can make something up and pull you over, but they have to write a ticket for a infaction with a moving vehicle and then secondary ticket for inspection. i have not inspected my truck for a year and never had a problem. its just a tax here, where a private company does inspection and they want to fail you for something so they get the work. then the 175 to 225 dollars an hour for work adds up quickly on a fix. its a bit of a scam here.
Unless it's snowing out or below zero, or a bad thunderstorm, I rode my bike every day. Back & forth to work - everywhere I wanted to go. It wasn't just a weekend toy like today's riders. The only thing I'd do to your bike if it were mine is to put a set of buckhorn bars on. Easier on your wrists and lots more comfortable riding position. Thanks for the cruise around. P.S. You talk about the road speed limit. Doesn't matter over here, they drive like wild maniacs. They do it until the judge throws them in jail. When they're out, they do it again. Has become extremely dangerous for bikers over here in the States. I had a black Super Glide with the 80 cu. in. Shovelhead engine. Bike was marvelous but had to dodge cars & trucks everytime I took it out. They just don't see black bikes. That bike would handle the twisties too. So does the new Fat Bob. It handles very well but very pricey.
Fait play to you Craig, being out in all weathers is thankfully something I can avoid. But I get where you're coming from on other road users being oblivious to bikes. I think the addition of driver assistance tech means they think they don't need to concentrate. I think I would have the superglide knucklehead in my lounge on display rather than on the road, stunning motorcycle 😍

You can have an MOT done up to a month early, it gets backdated to when the original would have run out. Gives you a bit of leeway.

Once the engine is at working temp they seem to run better in colder weather.
