To the people complaining that this isn't SteamOS: The SteamOS official image doesn't support TDP controls on the Go S yet. Bazzite does, so there's a good reason to use Bazzite instead of SteamOS while waiting for Valve to update it.
The offical image of steamos for this devices is not out yet either so you have 0 idea what it really can do. Tittle says STEAMOS not BAZZITE. thats why people complain

The legion Go is still pulling more than 15 watts in the locked TDP settings, you can even see it at 6:45, the GPU is already pulling 10 watts while the CPU is pulling 15 watts
Keep in mind NTSYNC will be added in kernel 6.14, can't wait to see what this will actually do to Linux gaming performance. Hoping it isn't another overhyped rather useless implementation. Whatever it will be, it's still very nice to see how far Linux gaming has come thanks to Valve!
I patched Proton with ntsync recently and running CachyOS kernel, which has backported ntsync support. It's not really revolutionary. Compared to fsync, all I get is better 1% lows and old CoDs are finally playable.

If you're going to make a video like this, you should at least be using SteamFork, not Bazzite. Bazzite is not SteamOS, SteamOS is much lighter than Bazzite and based on Arch instead of Fedora. They are comparable, but it's disingenuous to say Bazzite is the same as SteamOS.
I think I have decided to buy the msi claw 8 ai+ due to its big screen and 80 watt hour battery that competes with the rog ally x, my only worry is the rog ally screen is to small.
You can't use frame gen when testing. It's not a fair comparison. Frame gen makes the game feel very different, and changes game to game, so it's really muddying the waters for us when testing with frame gen.

Yeah it’ll be much better and more versatile than the steam deck. Steam deck was a good starting place to look at for the PC manufacturers like Lenovo, ASUS, MSI, etc. But now those companies, especially ASUS, will work on making amazing hardware that will have native support for Steam os and windows.
Valve is definitely gonna use a highly efficient Z2 extreme in the future. No way it will use RDNA 4.0. Valve want the perfect baseline handheld and give the opportunity to the clients to use the latest z3 extreme and steam os in the future.
Bazzite is fine, but wake me up when the Legion Go with the official Steam OS arrives. Also, no shit that it's faster than the Steam Deck. I miss old ETA Prime.

I'm liked PC handhelds or any other gaming portables that have 8 inch display, it's so satisfying. 7 or 7+ inch display feel small, not enough satisfying for me
These handhelds should all be shipping with Linux by default until Microsoft releases an OS catered to these mobile PCs so that users won't have to navigate through their clunky UI.

Please don't use Steam OS in the title when it's not Steam os but Bazzite, I know they're basically the same thing but it's not steam is yet, so it could mislead people to think it already released directly from valve
I am very confused about the powerdraw. either the cpu powerdraw on the LGS is the combined powerdraw or the limits are just for the cpu, since the combined power seems to be around 10 W higher. which would be really bad, that would mean that the LGS wouldn't hit the same performance as the SD at the same powerdraw. At 55Wh 35W means that you would get a little more than an hour since the screen and other components also need power. and 25W gives you maybe 2h if you are lucky.
Hey @ETA PRIME could you please do a dual boot setup with the Legion Go S when all drivers are available?! Because with a memory upgrade it could embody best of both worlds: handheld optimized games in Steam OS for playing classics like Witcher 3 most efficiently and also running Game Pass with Windows for the latest and greatest on this relatively small subscription service. It could be interesting to see an upgrade path on such a handheld in 2025 with more memory and more gaming options in dual boot. It could also be interesting to have a guide for Windows 11 optimization to get the best out of a handheld! Maybe you know some tools?! ...
Everyone crying about the device not being worth it. Then don't buy it. I got this with Windows on it and IV got everything i need to run bazzite on it. I'm happy to see the performance is better. I'm going to assume it's because windows isn't on there taking up all the vram etc and optimisation is better here.
My problem with SteamOS or Bazzite, or "gaming" on linux in general is the duplication of the proton elements when running a high number of smaller, indie-like games. I run a lot of smaller games, many of them under 200mb in size, but for each of those, I am need 1gb of proton files for each game. That is just a very inefficient use of drive space. After I install all of the games I like to play, proton take up 10x more space then the games themselves. Everyone likes to run SteamOS and Bazzite for high performance, but for those of us who dont run AAA games, gaming on linux is a messy environment at times.
... Idk, seeing how you need to use frame gen anyways, just tells me that it's not good enough on it's own, at this point I keep my Steam Deck. Ofcourse, it's not offical SteamOS so it might work much better when it realises with one, we will need to wait and see
I think what I’ll do is wait for steam os to drop for legion go and download it, wipe windows and go steam os only essentially turning it into steam deck. Then legion go 2 for windows
@@GrimAbstract the thing is - it has more gpu cores of the same gen making it more energy efficient and a cpu of a a similar configuration but newer gen making it more energy efficient as well. I believe it's easy to theorize that it might beat the deck at the same low tdp. The question is what other components consume and whether they are just as energy efficient as cpu and gpu.

I think something is odd with the CPU power reporting, it is not changing at all and that is not common
On the spiderman test you an see how it fluctuates (+-1 W) but on cp2077 it's just static

The only reason I'm sticking to Windows on my Legion Go is it's just easier to mod games, and use afmf2 or lossless. I do love the Bazzite Steam OS.

@@GrimAbstract the thing is - it has more gpu cores of the same gen making it more energy efficient and a cpu of a a similar configuration but newer gen making it more energy efficient as well. I believe it's easy to theorize that it might beat the deck at the same low tdp. The question is what other components consume and whether they are just as energy efficient as cpu and gpu.
