    It's funny how when he says "for the last few moments let mind do whatever it wants", my mind goes completly blank. Our brains are truly amazing.

      Yes.. thats how i feel. I try to think bout my problem but it seems like the things that I think is a problem is no longer a problem to me. Like I know exactly what to do.

      Same here. No matter how much I try to relax for the whole session, no matter how long it is, my mind goes blank for the last minute or so.

      I thought I was the only one. When he said that, I wanted to think about something but all I could think about was nothing.

      Right? at the start of the session i have great trouble silencing my mind, but when i actually have permission to let it roam free, there is nothing but silence.

    I was literally on the verge of breakdown, last 9 months have been hell, I barely sleep and worry constantly, I finally didn’t know what else to do and discovered this… I started the meditation and when the voice went quiet my mind started to wander and fast, but when it started to address the wander and guided me back to my breath, I fell asleep for the last 9 hours. I’m speechless. Thanks for this.

    I loved this. I didn't only experience active thoughts intruding into the breaths, but emotions as well.. namely loneliness at first. For the first couple of "rounds" of silence. On the last round of silence (before the end) it was anger. I allowed the emotions to have their way for about 1 or two seconds then I went back to the breath with no intention of resisting the emotion or suppressing it, just back to intentional focus on the conscious breathing. And the emotion dissipated like smoke... until it came in again. Lather, rinse repeat. At the end when you said to let the mind do whatever it wanted, I allowed all the emotions to just take me over and to my surprise, I found them only overwhelming for about five or so seconds... then they relaxed and I found myself UNINTENTIONALLY focusing on my breathing and the emotions again dissipated...
    This was a really good experience for me. Thanks a lot!

    I used this meditation today to calm the mind after making a significant effort to understand a basic explanation of string theory. I understood the
    explanation but my mind tired and I needed to take a break. This meditation "fit the bill". It is a wonderful thing that meditation can do! I wish you all at DTM to continue with all the benefits you derive from your own efforts! Sincerely, ADB,MD

    Right so here is something I struggle with... When people say stuff like focus on your breath without controlling it or let the breath come and go. Like how? It's impossible at least for me to sit there and not control my breath. Whenever I focus or even think about my breathing I automatically control it. I don't get how it's possible for anyone to sit there and let the breath come and go. Like try it now, focus on your breathing without controlling or manipulating it. It's impossible.
    So when I sit there and try to let the breath come and go I automatically feel a sense of doom and it's like something is forcing me to breath in very deeply otherwise il suffocate. Honestly meditation is making me worse.

    • @shanmantv
      @shanmantv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel you here and i haven't found a good response to it yet. I find I cant pay attention to my breathing without controlling it somehow. My suggestion is just try not to pay attention to it at all if the alternative doesnt work and instead focus on some other sensation, like the tempurature of the air or the sounds around you or your points of contact to the ground or chair, physical sensations in your body, etc. and if you want to bring yourself back to focusing on the breath, then begin to control it again. You dont want the practice to distract from the goal or be anxiety inducing, it is supposed to help you after all. The same things may not work for different people.
