Never took a look at goodfellas and realized that Henry actually was alone the whole time, like he never had any friends, it is an illusion, there is no mafia, only individuals committing crimes. The sopranos really dealt with this in detail

Goodfellas is one of those films you see playing on TV or Cable and stop everything and watch. Perhaps the greatest film ever made.

What happened to Henry Hill is what always happens when someone sells thier soul. You get exactly what you want, but lose everything you have.
It’s why looking closer at this film, past all the memorable acting and dialogue and such, it’s really a much deeper portrait of a guys true story then I ever would’ve thought
Henry Hill was still dealing drugs in witness protection
Part of the big thing about this film is that Scorsese gets inside the mind of a cokehead at the end of it. The crazy emotions, the helicopter overhead, that paranoia, yet driving forward, this film captures the somewhat appealing yet completely repulsive aspects of that era in American and individual human history.
In my eyes, the greatest movie ever made. I am so glad Goodfellas exists.

I love this movie! If it's on, I watch it. It's one of the few perfect movies out there. Plus, the use of the songs Layla and Gimmie Shelter are brilliant.

Henry makes it plain that he wasn't involved in the Lufthansa heist, which is why he wasn't in any danger from Jimmy at that point. You even played the scene of Henry in the shower hearing about the heist on the radio fer Chrissakes.
Jimmy was not going to kill Henry because he was part of his little click. It was the reason why Henry could pull of jokes and say what he liked with Jimmy or Tommy.
The only real danger he was in was when they started to fall apart and they thought he was going to go evidence but even then there was doubt.
Paulie will always be my favourite. Tommy and Jimmy were a way bit too psycho for me; and Henry was just thismuch of a sociopath. Paulie was the one with his head on straight.

The Irishman is a shit movie ... doesn't even come close to Goodfellas , more to Gotti with John Travolta
In the opening scene, Tommy’s intense malice when initiates the murder of Billy Batz in the trunk with that big ass knife, was directly responsible in enhancing the intensity of the “funny how” scene.

When u think about it Henry never did what he was told Jimmy told him never eat he ratted,jimmy told him don’t buy anything flashy with the robbery money he bought the most expensive Christmas tree in shop,Pauly told him don’t sell drugs he sold drugs his dad told him stay away from those guys he went to work for them,he never took the right advice that’s what led to his downfall

Perhaps much of this is stuff that hasn’t been analyzed before but the simplistic, straightforward analysis with concise film examples is not only spot on but feels very personal. The only thing that kept Jimmy from killing Henry like the others after the big heist was Henry's cocaine connection.Also, the scene where Tommy and Jimmy whack Maury behind Henry's back is important, because I think they kind of started to question Henry's heart after the Batts killing, remember, Henry never actually murders anyone in the movie. Great breakdown of a great film!

He always helps and tries to keep things going smoothly. They just want their way, which can include violence, since they can't be disrespected.
playboymaxim They were supposed to murder Maury that night and Henry knew. Jimmy called it off but then Maury was yammering away so much they did it anyway. So what you wrote isn’t really how it went down.
In the movie Henry was dealing cocaine.
In real life Henry was dealing heroin as he admitted decades later on the Howard Stern show.
playboymaxim he claimed that he did in real life though. Listen to Henry hill interviewed on Howard stern and you’ll hear him admit to having killed.

It's crazy how many of the cast of Sopranos were in this movie. Even Big Pussy is there, helping Henry move the coats at the Bamboo Lodge in the moving camera shot.
Great video. The scene that best hammered home the audacity of the lifestyle for me was when Karen went to the make-up party of the mobster wives. I shared her horror and I probably shouldn't have been able to relate to her character that intensely (I'm a Black man who was 22 years old when I first saw this movie). That, to me, is the beauty of Scorcese's skill.

I was just thinking yesterday about when you guys put Barry White to the clip of Ramsay bathing Theon. I was so bummed when it got taken down..
This was worthwhile, it made me consider points of the movie I had neglected. I was always too annoyed at the pre-to-post cocaine timeline to realize why I enjoyed/respected the movie otherwise. The scene selection was spot on, this was good. I do make one respectful suggestion: put your own voice into it. The info/diction/tone of the narration were excellent. The pace was frantic, lots of info, like some KingsandGenerals vids. Find your pace, it might be just as fast, but it won't sound frantic.
