What are your thoughts on IDW's radical take on Arcee's origin? Yay or Nay?

fr though i don't really like it. Like idk why, im a freaking guy but the fact that the first main female character in transformers was at some point.. just another male bot.. it offends me a little 💀
Perhaps it's because of how much i actually like her character and her femininity in general

Didn't like her origin. It was worse originally; the soft retcon made things a little better, but not a lot. The first version, where she was force-transitioned, was just incredibly tone deaf and I'm happy some more trans-friendly writes came aboard later. They did what they could, but…
I'm, generally an IDW fan, especially the early stuff and also Lost Light. But Arcees origin was… not very well handled.
@@krank23 I didn’t realize that they soft retconned her origin. So initially she was force transitioned and then it was changed to get choice?
I like the direction Prime took her in. She's a nice blue with some pink sprinkled in as a throwback, but Prime Arcee is pretty badass. And she turns into a cool motorcycle.
Edit: Also, having grown up with Beast Wars, I didn't think anything weird about Airrazor and Black Arachnia being prominent characters. Just made sense to me. In fact, I think Airrazor was my first BW toy as she was one of the only ones available at the time and my other option was someone who wasn't part of the show. I loved my little Airrazor toy, though. She got me to buy the other Maximals and Predacons when I could.
Yeah Prime Arcee was a well done character IMHO. A nice evolution of the character without going too over the top.
I also didn't think anything weird about Air razor and Black Arachnias inclusion in Beast Wars as I was older and i thought that the writing the Beast Wars series was a little better as well :)
Plus, Arcee's design in Prime is FINE 😏

I really hate Arcee's gender bending story arc...
...it really ruins my image of her awesome character. SO! To me, that story arc is REDACTED!
He he yeah I'm not a big fan of it either but I do have a lot of respect for a lot of what IDW did for the franchise as a whole...even if I don't like all of it. I prefer the classic Arcee :)
arcee was a motorcycle in energon, also rid 2015 arcee is a combination of g1 and prime, there is a rumor that she was gonna appear in rid 2015 in an episode called "2 wheeler", i hope her 2007, rid 2015, animated, and universe 2014 designs get used in a future transformers series, also hope to see Arcana (energon arcee) in a future transformers series as well
Yeah at this point I thin Arcee has been a bike more than a car 😅 it's all good with me since Prime Arcee was one of my favorite interpretations of the character.
Arcee and Ultra Magnus are two of my favourite Autobots of all time. This video inspired me to order a toy of her online to add to my small collection.

I can easily see Arcee with a Pink Cadillac ElDorado as a reformatted alt mode! (Who knows what her commander, Elita-1 might shapeshift into)
Yeah I could see that working too for Arcee 👍 no idea what Elita 1 would be but I'd figure it would be some sort of truck to match up with Prime :) not a fan of Elita as a car or bike.
My first Arcee was the Takara masterpiece and I absolutely love her and I have always loved G1 Arcee.
The Takara MP Arcee is the best option out there IMHO. And yes I agree, there is no beating out the original G1 Arcee!
@StoriesFromTheToyshelf The store I got her from had two or three, and I would look at her every time I went in the store for years, and I was in there getting a original G1 Bumblebee for my sister in law (she fell in love with Bee when she was 7 and I sit down and watched G1 with her I'm 23 years older than her). After years of wanting Arcee, my wife put her foot down and made me get her foot down and made me get her
@TheDuck632 well glad you were able to get her! It may have taken years but the fact that you wanted her for that long is a good thing! At least you can say it wasn't an impulse buy 😅
Like you the G1 cartoon and the marvel comics were my introduction to Transformers. Gender didn't really play a part of the stories of the cartoon... The episode with Elita-1 and the episode with Ariel (War Dawn), were the only 2...but romances did occur in Transformers G1 cartoon... even with other species, like Powerglide's "girlfriend" Carly, and Seaspray's love interest Alana. But after the G1 movie, an introduction of a love triangle between Arcee, Hotrod and Springer was created, and continued to a degree after the movie, but Hotrod became Rodimus, and Springer was off and on with Arcee... so Arcee was shifted to Daniel as a mother-like figure.
The old G1 comics had no women of any sort. Gender had no presence.
Modern comics added modern situations into the mix, so you have everything going on that we kinda see now... So to me it just is another take on something that was around in a very basic way in the 80s cartoon.
Unfortunately, I believe Arcee of the modern comics was victimized by being a poster child of something that really didn't need to be explained one way or another, as Transformers were genderless in the original comics.
Newer cartoons really didn't explore much with relationships of "female"/"male" interactions, as everyone were autobot or decepticon soldiers in a war.
"Gender" is more a a modern concern if you ask me. We were better off as kids when this wasn't a thing at all. Kids just liked what they liked and while there were exceptions, in general boys really did gravitate more towards cars and robots and "male" characters and girls naturally were attracted to dolls and so on. That's just nature. Now people are so obsessed with with introducing their gwon up agendas to our kids it's rather disturbing if you ask me. I get that IDW comics are more for an older demographics, us older fans who want less kiddy storylines. Which is why on a whole I do like what IDW did. For Arcee, I can appreciate the original take but I think it was unnecessary and could've been done better. Instead she became a bad cliche of a raging bad ass. Not my cup of tea...but that's just me 😅 I prefer the OG Arcee who showcases traditional but positive female qualities 👍

I think you're wrong on the first Arcee. There were one version of her in Energon that turned into a bike, her hands was garbage though. That mold even got a few repaints too but didn't bother about those.
Oh yeah I do remember that one...but since she turned into a bike I didn't count her. But yeah I remember her being a big deal when released. But for me I consider the thrilling 30 to be the first traditional Arcee that transforms to a car toy :) at least I think it is 😅

Actually there was female autobots before arcee they were on the original cartoon before the movie came out
Yup! I know about Elita-1 and her female Autobot team but they were just in one or two episodes and never really used again. Arcee was the first regularly featured female Autobot in the cartoon from the movie moving forward :)
I never see season 3 of transformers g1 when I was a little girl but I did see the episode that Elita one was in and my god it was awesome, and I heard that season 3 wasn’t that good anyways so I miss out
You mean the season after the 86 movie? It was decent. Very much like the previous, a lot of filler and silly episodes...but the good ones were really good! Especially the multi episode stories like Starscreams Ghost :)
all of g1 was seasons 1-4 + movie are the pinnacle of transformers. Everything after is subpar poser crap
@Demiurge13 aww I wouldn't go that far....there have been some really great stories and series since then :)
If the Bay series used typical the typical Transformers size change mcguffin(Like they did for her in Prime), she could've been a touring bike, like a Goldwing, and her rider her head, like that motorcycle in Energon, who I always forget the name of(was it Swindle or Sideways?), who also had the size change trope.
Yeah Bay was pretty odd in his decision making process when it came to the TFs. Either way he could've done more with many of the iconic TFs that he used including Arcee. Fortunately she seems to be handled considerably better in the new BB universe.
Okay I get that you weren't into the Unicron trilogy but after mentioning so many versions of her how can you ignore the Energon incarnation? It is at least an important toy for the franchise since it's the 1st vehicle transformer meant to be female from the get go (previous were Transmetal Airrazor & Blackarachnia). I noticed it since you didn't mention that Energon Shockblast was the first Shockwave toy we got since action masters in his video & was the closest (up to that point) in being disloyal to Megatron. Not angry or anything but seeing that you talk about other incarnations & designs outside of G1 since they are significant I wonder why some that are relevant are ignored.
Yeah guilty as charged 😞 unfortunately I never got into Energon and Unicron trilogy as a whole since it was before I really got back into collecting toys as an adult. As much as I want to cover everything, I know I really wouldn't do a great job at talking about things I don't know much about. There are other channels who look to make extensive breakdowns on all the toys of a specific characters. As for me I like to focus on my personal memories and connections to the characters with my own related anecdotes..i figure that is my unique angle to my "stories". I hope that won't discourage you from watching more of my stuff:) but thanks for calling me out! Appreciate the feedback!
If its worth anything, even if I wasn't collecting at the time I do remember that Energon Arcee being a big deal as the first retail Arcee toy that wasnt a forcrd repaint of an older toy, but I was coming from the angle of the first Arcee that transformed into a car like the original 86 Arcee....so yeah. But good call on that one...and Shockblast!
Ngl, you made me a fan of the comic RC! Minus the fact that she chose to seek violence/revenge, I love that she essentially trans in that story. As a trans woman, I am grateful to learn that fact from you (assuming it is true).
Yes it was true in the IDW universe. It was an original take of which I can appreciate. Although a lot of readers acknowledge that it could have been done better..but yeah it's true :)

Yes unfortunately I didn't get that toy. Also since she Transformers I to a bike, she wasn't close enough for me to the original arcee ..but yes I should have mentioned her as one of the first decent and modern Arcee toy.👍👍
ngl as a little kid in the 80s when i first saw arcee in transformers the movie, my little body felt some funny tingling...

Yeeeeaaaaah, her IDW version wasn't the most tastefully realized version. But I like the character, I wish the movies had used the fact she was almost human sized in some creative way, her almost maternal side shown with Daniel would've worked wonderfully had she been a human companion like Bee or Mirage.
Yeah they definitely could've done more with Arcee in the Bay movies. But Bay is all about the big spectacle and in my opinion bad at all the little things that make movies special. Which is why his TF movies are al pretty soulless and lack any heart....the TFs are just mostly one note caricatures and cliches. Sad really. You're take on the wasted potential of Arcee is SPOT ON!
While I don't generally like IDWs take on Arcees origin, I'll admit that it's original...but handled poorly. As the fact that they made her a crazy killing machine bad ass kinda ruined her character for me. And they basically ignored/rewrote the qualities that made her cool in the first place which was a caring emotionally strong individual who put her comrades well being before her own. They made her just...one of the guys. Oh well...at least they tried to do something different.

Yes 🤣 I'm assuming you're referring to my assessment of the Takara MP Arcee....in case I wasn't too clear, my issue wasn't about the size of the...um bust, it was the placement...it just didn't look anatomically right. And to be fair, this was a widely common observation pointed out by many collectors when the very first promo shots were released online. No over sexualization here....believe me there was a lot of that prior to and after MPArcee 😅

@Warpath832 ah yeah true...but that's the challenge when you have such a kibble free body to work with. No place to hide all the car parts. Hence the car backpack 😅
