Simon and Jenette not having kids could be that they don't want kids or they can't have kids, they could still be straight and not have kids

omg i love you for making this!!! my gay ass loved this video. i’ve always had my own headcanons for them so it’s cool to see someone cover this. i’m glad we’re able to discuss this without blatant homophobia :) i don’t think they NEED to be queer for representations sake, but if they made my boy queer i would be doing backflips for joy. this makes me wonder if they did go the route of making some of them queer, if they’d do what they did with the tiny toons reboot and make all of them (the chipmunks and chipettes) siblings. god this videos got me in my head now. love to see this type of content be covered!

I haven't seen 2015 chipmunks maybe Kevin and Cheesey were paired up because there was more boys in the class than girls so they were the only ones that didn't get a female partner

  • @JosephScarbrough

My middle school did such assignments, however, students weren't paired off with partners to care for the robotic babies, they were assigned individually, and yes, they did have to take them home. But, I digress.
Diversity has definitely had representation within the franchise dating as far back as the 1983 series, when you see that, much like the 2015 CGI series, all of The Chipmunk and Chipettes' classmates are a multicultural bunch that represent different races and ethnicities. As far as LGBTQ+ representation is concerned, I see this coming more from the fandom than canon, and as Lauren has pointed out, unfortunately, that mostly comes in the form of incestuous ships (if we think this is a problem in The Chipmunks' franchise, it's even worse in The Loud House fandom, where "Loudcest" is huge). With the main six characters, to make any of them suddenly such an LGBTQ+ character would be falling victim to another problem that a lot of mainstream entertainment has been having for a good number of years, which is a forced swap . . . and by that I mean we have many instances where so many enduring, decades-old characters that have already long been established as specific races, genders, or sexualities are suddenly race-lifted, gender-swapped, or given an entirely different sexuality for the sake of diversity, and as I say, that becomes a problem unto itself: not only is it forced, but it's also lazy and uninspiring. Take Mindy Kaling's VELMA series that everybody hates for example: if we had gotten a series about an Indian-American lesbian who solves mysteries, that would have been a great opportunity to introduce such a character to the world, and have that character really stand out as somebody truly unique and different . . . instead, we literally got race-lifted Velma, and that's it. (It also would've helped if the series actually had decent writing, and wasn't just a mouthpiece for Mindy Kaling to spew her politics vicariously through a cartoon character).
I think the best bet for the franchise would be to introduce new original recurring characters, be they chipmunks or human, and establish them as being LGBTQ+ . . . it could even be a learning experience to address the subject in a sensitive and inoffensive way to show that maybe somebody as mentally and emotionally stubborn as say either Alvin or Brittany can't understand why somebody would be attracted to those of their own sex/gender, but eventually learn that it's just who they are, just like Alvin is attracted to girls because that's who he is, or Brittany is attracted to boys because that's who she is. Otherwise, The Chipmunks aren't necessarily alone in this . . . it took SESAME STREET over 50 years to _finally_ start including LGBTQ+ characters on their show, but unfortunately, shows and franchises aimed at young children have always been scrutinized by morality groups (mostly rightwing ones) when it comes to LGBTQ+ inclusion. I used to work at our local PBS as a teenager, and down here in our red Bible Belt state, our local pledges took a hard hit when such a morality group called for a boycott against PBS Kids programming after it was learned that an episode of the ARTHUR spinoff POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER featured a girl who had a pair of lesbian mothers: the episode never aired, and PBS was accused of "brainwashing" and "indoctrinating" children into an "evil cult." Because of this, our PBS stopped having on-air pledge drives altogether, and turned to private fundraisers. Oh, and lest we forget all of the HARRY POTTER book burning that took place after J.K. Rowling outed Dumbledore.
Regarding the theories about "Big Dreams," I suppose that Simon and Jeanette being asexual _could_ be a theory, although my thinking on the matter would be that either they chose not to have children (as more and more couples, whether heterosexual or LGBTQ+ are choosing), or perhaps they have just been so focused on their own lives and careers that they haven't gotten around to starting their own family yet - as opposed to Alvin and Brittany wasting no time in having kids (which I think is part of the joke anyway).
Lastly . . . sorry, but petitions _never_ work. They just don't. Well, the whole "Ugly Sonic" situation may be the main exception to that rule.

There isn't anything ambiguous about their sexuality in the 2015 show, It is clear that they have an exclusive interest in the opposite sex, and are indeed straight. Though the show's creators may change the physical parameters of the characters, the general character bibles, remain largely the same. But as you said it isn't a complete impossibility that they could change such things in future incarnations, though it would create less upheaval if they just introduced characters that were non binary or gay.

Um i can see them create an LGBT chipmunks characters, i totally see that, but i wouldn’t go as far into making the chipmunks and Chipettes as that, that would probably confuse fans more, but i can see them creating a whole new LGBT chipmunk characters, i never realised that point about how Simon and Jeanette may not be attracted to each other that’s interesting although i guess the reason why they don’t have kids as Alvin and Brittany have kids, is simply because they didn’t want kids, kinda like Theodore and Eleanor that’s totally fine, a lot of people don’t want kids, but that is interesting you brought that up.

  • @leahsincelejo7641

Dave seems bisexual to me. Alvin is definitely straight but he is very feminine whether he wants to admit it or not. The other children are definitely straight. I think Theodore can be asexual and Simon can also be Bi, and Jeanette can be pansexual straight which means to goes for personality for men. Eleanor definitely screams they.

Im really late to this but ehhh who cares. I guess sexuality wise i imagine alvin and Simon to both be bi while one having a preference towards women and the other not having a preference. And Theodore as the straight ally just trying to support his brothers. For the chipettes in my experience, people headcannon Jennette as lesbian, which im not agaist but i see her as asexual or aro ace im not really sure whats the name. I agree with the opinion here that ele might be non binary, and for brit im honestly not sure. Obviously these are my opinions, and if you dont agree with me/ have your own opinions thats 100% okay! And im interested to hear what you think!

I'm not too sure about the chipmunks and chipettes being part of the LGBTQ+.
Although I do support the LGBTQ+, don't get me wrong. But I do know there has been LGBTQ+ discussed on My Little Pony. Like Rarity x Applejack, Rainbow Dash x Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie x Fluttershy. 😊

i HEAVILY interpret simon as gay ace and alvin as a closeted/unrealized trans girl. i created a squirrel oc to be a love interest for simon, his name is rodney :] he wears red glasses to complement simon's blue glasses. their story is funny in my head because simon sees them as academic rivals and rodney's over there like 'hey hows it goin :]' rivalry who lol
also people who write simon as homophobic in fanfics make my head spin. are we all watching the same fruity little rodent or??

I can see Simon and Jeanette being Asexual/Aromantic and Eleanor and Theodore could be bi and/or nonbinary. Alvin and Brittney could just be the straight supportive Ally siblings and that's okay too, but yeah we need more chipmunks in general. Maybe have a trans character who has a crush on Alvin, maybe they're ftm or mtf and that has Alvin question his sexuality which leads him to thinking how he views maybe Brittney, as a friend or potential girlfriend. Just a thought. Great video guys ^^

I honestly think Alvin and the Chipmunks isn’t the kind of franchise to have massive diversity let alone LGBT representation. It feels more like a franchise meant to distract you from the real world for a while and doesn’t have really heavy subjects. Plus, not everyone will experience this subject. Throughout my entire life I’ve never been close to anyone that’s part of the LGBT community. Everyone I’m close to or have had a connection with was cisgender and heterosexual. Also I really dislike the idea of Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittany, Jeanette, and/or Eleanor becoming LGBT. This is because all 6 characters have already been established as cisgender and heterosexual, and making them apart of the LGBT would ruin their status quo in my opinion. Now I’m not saying that LGBT representation shouldn’t exist, in fact in should be a part of some stories from time to time, but I feel like there are some stories that don’t need this kind of representation. And at the end of the day, the main goal of every piece of media is just to provide entertainment. Representation is just a nice little add on to show different kinds of people. There have been some good pieces of media without massive diversity that still turn out to be great. So yeah, I think Alvin and the Chipmunks doesn’t necessarily need LGBT representation. I hope I’m not offending anyone in the LGBT community. I don’t want to come off as homophobic (which I’m not by the way).

Exactly. From what I've seen they were always neutral. I as a christian noticed also the lack of religion stuff, and even seen evidence of the topic being suppresed when it was relevant. Introduction of LGBTQ+ would broke that neutrality and so become onesided into certain level. Stating onesided I mean as mentonied by @alexhurtado4381 there isn't much of other 'serious' or controversial topics discussed in the show. Except general eco friendly 'activism' in AATC.

I do think more chipmunks would be great for the franchise, although I don’t think they would be gay I mean I don’t hate the LGBTQ plus community but I think more chipmunks would be great maybe 3 more girls and they can make a Movie about them arriving but I think The Chipettes would be jealous of them at first but in the end they would save them from a evil villain, who use them for money the same as Ian Hawke and The Chipettes become friends with them at the end but in this case its a possibility for a side of character to be gay
