Kind Sir! I am 64 years old and have changed car batteries in the past. My wife’s 2012 Ford Focus battery died in the frigid cold on Christmas Eve this year (2022). The battery is in a cramped space with some slightly tricky maneuvers needed. After viewing a few videos I came across your fine video and found that your instructions were absolutely perfect. My wife, with my help, replaced the battery with minimal frustration. Your guidance was essential and greatly appreciated! Thank you so much! Your video was perfect, very clear and detailed! I wouldn’t change a thing! Thanks, again! Love and Peace to you and your family from Bryan and Ellie!

The best youtube video on this topic. I watched part of it and replaced a battery on 2016 Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost. Most other videos recommend disassembling the neighboring components, which is not always justified. But, this guy is great. The trick is from 12:25. Just be careful to install the battery of the correct size: 278x175x175 mm.
Feel free to swear during the replacement, thinking of the decision makers who obviously purposefully placed the battery where it is, in order to discourage you and to make you do it in a repair shop.

Thank you for this video. I am having to replace the battery in my 2015 Ford Focus after below temps & it needed a fresh battery anyway. Your video is detailed, and easy to view and understand, making it less overwhelming since I am an older woman. I cannot understand why car makers just don't make the battery compartment directly in the front to have easy in and out removal/insertion like the cars from years again. All this new stuff and plastic is ridiculous. But you made this look easy, I hope it is when I start on my battery. 😀

Changed lots of batteries in my previous cars. My Focus wouldn't start yesterday until boosted and after running all day it starts but the charge is low. first thought was WTF were they thinking when I saw the battery compartment. Thanks for giving me a clear picture of how to get the battery out of a badly designed placement. I Wont have to figure it out myself now. Wow a replaceable part should be placed where it can easily be swapped out. Should be a 2-minute job not 15 minutes, Thanks Ford.

    • @moomoo97

More modern compact cars (even some imports) are placing the battery near the firewall location like Ford does here now. It's a space trade-off when the design favors with shorter hood but bigger engine.

For most European-designed compacts like our Focus, VW or Mini-Cooper, it's a common location for the battery. My guess is that battery is not a freq-service item and they want to encase it from heat/weather than the typical Front-side location for its protection and longevity. But yes, it's PITA to get to during replacement.....lol

Just did this on my 2011 MK3 Focus 2.0 Diesel, taking the battery out was the hardest part. Needed to use a spanner to get the negative terminal bolt loose as all my other tools were too big. Thank you!

    • @moomoo97
      @moomoo97  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nice you've it done! As showing from the video, it's not an open space for the Negative terminal but a small ratchet/spanner can still be used in there. It'll be much safer to work the Negative by disconnect the Positive terminal first.

I used ForScan and a modified ELM327 to perform the Battery Monitoring System reset. My battery was over 1800 days old so all the calibration data for the old battery needed to be erased. Now battery is 0 days old and the proper current is being supplied to the battery. Just something to add.

Thank you very much - especially the little quirks on how to get the battery out. I just changed mine (with an Odyssey PC1200) on a 2013 Focus ST. A few comments....the terminals on this battery sit higher than the original battery - so the height is over 7 ". This introduced some added challenges trying to get the cover back on (at least for me it did). Also, I had to use an open-ended 10mm to get the negative terminal reconnected because the height difference took out the ability to use a socket wrench. Also, the base of the battery compartment is recessed for an original Motorcraft. If you're going to use an Odyssey, it will be smaller which causes some sliding - you'll have fill in the extra space with something.

Your video was really helpfull to replace the battery of my focus sportbreak tdci 1.6 2011/2012. Specially for taking off the old battery due to the lack of space.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your video because the others had me trying to remove the airbox which a bit difficult and overkill. Your video was perfect and directly to the point. Thank you again. 😁

      Darren Bowman,
      " ... to remove the airbox ... difficult and overkill. ... "
I don't know about you, but tipping those heavy batteries full of acid at such a steep angle looks a bit awkward and possibly dangerous to me. I don't like the idea of having to remove the airbox either, but I will probably take the time to do it that way to get the extra space to maneuver the batteries safely.
I have also considered making a loop of some kind -- maybe a huge nylon cable tie or some kind of belt or strap -- to slip around the front end of the battery to use as a handle to lift it with. Might be steadier than having fingers underneath or beside it to get squished, but not sure it would be worth the bother of getting it in and out when the battery is in place. (The designers apparently had no concern for maintainability when they came up with this mess.)

I need to clean the corrosion off of my negative terminal. So thank you for providing this video so that I know how to remove the battery properly. Seems like a needless pain-in-the-butt compared to every other car I've owned though. :/
