Great video. A mechanic told my relative it could take 2 hours to change because they may need to remove her tire. It is very unfortunate that people cannot be trusted and will do anything to bamboozle people for money. Thank you for taking out time to be transparent and honest. God bless you, sir.

Thanks for this. You had the most straightforward and easy to follow video on this that I've seen. Many thanks for creating this!
On a side note, I have to say to Ford: I realize that low-profile hoods and other design choices might mean they want to push the battery back...but really, this is inexcusable. Something that will need replacing, probably several times over the life of the car, should ALWAYS be kept simpler than this to replace.

This really helped me out today. I needed to replace my battery but didn't have the tools. The people at the autoparts store normally would help people install their battery but because of how complicated the procedure is, they didn't want to assume responsibility if they accidently damaged the battery. • @watcher818
    @watcher818 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nice video! But please don't connect that negative terminal first. While wrenching the Positive terminal, you run the risk of the end of your wrench to something grounded. Since the Neg terminal is connected, you will have full voltage across the wrench. I have seen a wrench turn red hot when across the + terminal and to somewhere on the car frame. If you don't have the neg terminal connected, you can touch the + terminal to the car all day long and you have no current flow.
When removing the cables, do the Negative first. That disconnects the terminal from the frame (chassis/ ground etc) and once again you are safe if your wrench touches between the POSITIVE terminal and the car body. So, there is definitely a reason to do them in that order, I want you and the viewers to be safe.
Thank you for your videos sir, and keep up the great work. :)

Good point at the beginning of your reply. The rule is disconnect the negative first and reconnect it last. It’s a cardinal sin among professional mechanics if you don’t. Also, be careful of your tools and try not to use any tool long enough to make contact with both terminals at the same time.

Thank you for the video and for adding the part about jumping the car. I jumped my mother in laws car and had no idea where connect it so hooked it to metal frame crossed my fingers and it worked. Had to pull battery out for her and you saved me a lot of stress and time thank you!

Thanks for this - saved me from some agonizing trial and error I’m sure! When I returned the old one to parts store the guy asked if I had to take the wiper cowl out as it looked brutal when he tested the battery earlier.

As it happens, I have a 2012 Ford Focus SE with a dead battery, and I've been checking TH-cam vids on the subject. This is by far the most realistic presentation: no jump-cuts that omit the difficult parts (like wrestling the battery out), no editing out forgetting to do something (like putting in the battery terminal protectors), no editing out interruptions by family, free background music courtesy of the neighbors - just like doing it at home! I feel confident, now.
Other videos would have us remove the airbox and a bunch of connectors. I'll try your method first!

Thanks. I followed your instructions and changed the battery with a little difficulty.
    Some thing I would add:
    1. I did not have a little socket wrench like you have. I tried it with my 3/8" socket, and could not get the negative terminal screw off because the socket wrench would hit the overhanging cowl. So I did the negative terminal last, after disconnecting the + terminal and the bracket and the front wall. Then I could slide the battery toward me, and then I had room to remove the negative connector.
    2. With the negative battery connector, it helped a lot to screw in the nut quite a bit before putting it on the terminal because there is not much room to work back there.
    3. I could not get a grip with my fingers on the battery to pull it out. Mine was the original Motorcraft battery which has no handle. I took a nail puller and hooked it into the front of the battery, and it pulled right out with ease.

Just used your help again 8 mos later to change my 2015 focus battery. One additional thing: the bolts holding the bracket may be a little longer than on my 2013 focus, and my socket did quite reach long enough to remove the nut. I have a deep socket, but it was too deep to fit in the space. I put the socket onto the nut first, pushing it all the way down. Then inserted the socket wrench into the socket, and it worked ok.

Saved probably 70-100 dollars because of your video! My dealership would have charged me through the nose. Yes it's a bit of a pian to get the battery out but if all you need is a 10mm wrench then why pay someone to do this for you.

Thanks, you saved my bacon here. The only thing I would say is that I always remove the positive first making sure there is always a way back to ground if you accidentally touch something you shouldn’t. If you remove the negative first the path to ground could be through you
