  • If you're buying a battery for this Ford focus, expect to change the battery yourself because the highstreet shops are unlikely to do this for you for a fee.
    www.halfords.com/motoring/bul...
    I bought this battery for £110. It's £114 at the moment. Eurocarparts is selling them somewhere bewteen £220 and £330.
    I would think Ford Parts is about £250.

    The battery in this make, model and mark should be removed in the order shown in the video for 100% assurance of safety and ease. Extra components like the airbox should be removed to allow easy access to pull and slide out the battery horizontally, just enough to disconnect the negative battery terminal at the battery end (bolt to chassis already removed). This should be done to minimise any stress on the extra sensor and plug/ socket and cable that leads onto the wiring harness. Forceful pulling of the battery up and at a diagonal to lift it over the airbox is not recommended due to unforeseen extra strain on the aforementioned sensor unit/ harness.

      In your opinion of course? Took me 5 mins without removing anything other than the battery cover, clamp, and terminals.

    Pretty sure you just unclip and raise the front panel of the battery box, tip it forwards and the battery comes out at an angle after you’ve undone the connections and brace. No need to remove air box etc.

      That's exactly what I just did over the weekend. So much easier than removing all that extra stuff. It is a bit awkward/heavy to tilt in but just take your time and you got it.

      Correct lift the front panel, push the sides out and pull front panel towards you. Battery will lift out on the angle....simple.

      In my 2016 there wasn't quite enough room with the face lifted and fuse box cable disconnected. Had to take the lid of the airbox out but did not have to go any deeper. This allowed the battery box face to move just enough to angle out the battery.

      The rail that holds the rubber seal below the windscreen clips off on the front wing and tilts up. Battery lifts straight out

    I just did a battery replacement on my 2014 Ford Focus. No need to remove all the air box assembly or harnesses or mass air sensor. I just unsnapped the front of the battery box on the sides and pushed it forward a bit, removed the positive and negative cables from the battery then weaseled the battery out. Only used a 10mm socket and ratchet. Took me 10 minutes to remove the battery and about 10 minutes to install new battery.

      I've never before known of such a ridiculous design that makes the battery so difficult to replace. I can't even get the wrench to fit in the gap above the negative terminal, and the bolt to chassis won't budge, so I'm going to have to search for a lower profile option.

  • @cseles81

    It looks very similar, if not exactly the same as MK2. All it takes is just some tilting to get it out after removing the strap. BTW: why disassemble the air box, if removed anyways?

      Right glad I found the "easy route" and just removed the fuse box cable and filter housing so the battery compartment face could shift forward JUST enough to manhandle out and absolutely require an extra set of hands to keep the battery propped at an angle I could get a positive grip with the cursed crescent wrench because each nut and bolt required different flipping sizes both metric and standard and of course none I had in a parking lot worked for the battery terminals. Yeah even with the "easy way" its still the worst battery to replace I have ever had the displeasure to work on. That gas mileage though...

      @Killerklownsfromouterspace 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Wahinies Yep, I did it the same way. Quicker but still a pain in the ass. They just want you to have to bring it in so they can charge you an arm and a leg. Kinda crazy what you have to do to get a battery out compared to 40 yrs ago. Lol But like you said, that gas mileage though!!!👍

  • @mistrydip2k

    Hi. You did make it bit more difficult then it should have been. The thick wire in front of the battery just clips off from the fuse box on the right and then you can slide the front battery cover out. Obviously if it’s your first time to remove it on a focus then it can be tricky but easier for next time. Meant to say hope you removed the small red transport caps both sides of the battery. Thanks for the video though.

    Why would ya try and take the negative side off when it's off the car body on the other end? Just pull it out, then take it off when it's out.
    I just changed mine and took the air cleaner, whole box out. Its only one jubilee clip.

    • @EducationPineapple

      On the MK3.5 Ford Focus 2014-2018, 1.5TDCI, like mine, removal of the battery is recommended as in the video shown. Firstly, unscrew the negative terminal end with the bolt into the car's body. It is used for frequent disconnect of the power supply. Next the 10mm nut should be unscrewed and the negative terminal removed. The removal of the battery's terminal is next because the extra sensor attached to the MK 3.5's terminal, is connected via two white cables see video 16:40 to the engine electrical harness. Care should be considered in the order of disconnect because the sensor can malfunction in certain disconnecting combinations and in particular when using a battery charger with battery in situ.

    Can i change battery myself with car been keyless start ?????

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's is unknown to me, but I would say if that was me I would try to change the battery on a keyless start car, however I would have the doors open and windows down before disconnecting battery and also make sure you have an immobiliser code if your car has a code also the radio code if your radio has a code before disconnecting. Get ready for the car's alarm to go off.

    I'm looking to disconnect my battery for a few minutes. I am right in saying that since I'm not removing it all I need to do is :
    Disconnect the negative from the body as you've done at the beginning and then disconnect the positive ?

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes make sure you have your radio code if it's an older car like 20;years old...make sure your car has not got an auto immobilizer if the battery is disconnected typical in older cars like 25;years old. Check your owners manual or look it up and down load.

      @@sandyfleming9490 the only thing you have to remember is remove the negative terminal connecting to the body of the car as shown in the video...cover end of cable with electrical tape for insulation then follow procedure shown in video...refitting is the exact opposite of removal...everything works normal after that...remember this is for the Ford Focus 1.5 TDCI 2014-2018...UK... won't be the same for other cars for example the radio code needs resetting in other cars...any doubt take it to a reputable person to do the work. You never disconnect the negative side first! Always the last to remove. Also, you made this so much more difficult for yourself. The air feed into the box disconnects, then you simply lift the box out. Then remove the positive terminal on the battery. The end panel on the battery tray will unclip and you can move it up enough to release it and pull it towards you gently. Once the battery brace has been removed you can undo the positive terminal and remove the battery. I removed and refitted mine in 15 mins, not rushing.

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The negative battery terminal is connected to the body of the chassis via the cable and bolt visible. This bolt is present to allow easy and often disconnect of the car's battery's power...the negative terminal battery should always be disconnected first. Please refer to your owner's manual, or a dedicated repair manual like Haynes if you are unsure.

    Before you do anything, make sure you plug a memory keeper into the cigaret lighter socket before you disconnect the battery.

    • @EducationPineapple
      @EducationPineapple  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a good idea ...I haven't found a memory Keepers that plugs into the lighter socket. Be a good place to place it rather than the OBD2 socket. I know what I have done in the past that works is have a battery boost starter pack with not much juice and connect it to the terminals before disconnecting, though it probably be better using your lighter method. On my cars the Ford Focus and Honda Civic, it doesn't matter if the battery is disconnected, I just lose the clock. On other cars I've owned like the Nissan Primers, the immobiliser kicked in when someone changed the battery at the shop. I can't remember how he got out of that one, but he was reprimanded.
