Hello Ben love your vlog I can't stop watching them I'm a pensioner of 76 I think you are so clever what you do with cars good luck and than you, Alan from Suffolk.
Paint it black with gold trim and make it look like the JPS Formula 1 cars from the 80’s. That would be really iconic. If you Google it, you can see a Capri in those colors.
I have to agree it would look good in the JPS LIVERY but and a BIG BUT capris are getting quite rare nowadays so I personally believe it needs to stay looking as standard as possible and we all know that Ben will have it looking absolutely fantastic by the time he finishes just look at the quality of the spray job he did on the mini
Keep it black Ben it’s the best colour for a Capri. Get yourself a 2.8 special rear axle with the LSD and bigger drums, 2.8 servo and master cylinder High Spec 4 pot front callipers with 280mm discs if you’re sticking with 13 inch rims. Braided hoses also a must. All round poly bushes and lower it no more than about an inch. Some people also swear by rear axle braces
Ello mate I agree @ keeping it black. I don't know if you're with me on this but if a Capri is white they look great too so if it's white 🤍 keep it white and same goes for black . Capri club have an "anti tramping" system just wondered if it's worth Ben consulting with Capri club International on the handling side of things?
Been following you since the Bedford Rascal & love the videos! I’d keep it externally standard 1.6 Laser & respray it factory black with new decals etc. Back in 86 my brother had a Paris Blue C reg 1.6 Laser (I was 10 years old) & I absolutely adored the look of it but even then I knew it wasn’t fast 😂 Great memories & really looking forward to the next video.
I own a black Capri Laser myself and think that’s the best colour. Therefore I’m going to say keep it black with original Laser decals on the outside and make it a sleeper. I got my wheels diamond cut with back inserts and it’s a huge improvement on the standard silver, especially on a black car. I’m interested to see how the engine conversion goes as it might give me ideas of my own!
You have an earth wire missing. It's held on by the bottom srew in bolt on the wiper cluster. Nearly by the ignition keys, could be why washers don't work on cluster when pushed in.
You could create the Capri that was never made and turn it into a Capri ST and finished in ST orange and stuff. I do love a sleeper, but think you could work your magic on this long term project and make it unique. Great video as always.
but proper Capris had twin choke webbers fitted, well the 3.0 litre Ghia ones did anyway. Lasers were the very basic model. Only 2 models had the two exhausts, 3 litre, later 2.8, and the Dutch 2.3 v6.
Aren’t the 2 inner headlights the main beam? One rear fog light is the legal minimum but 2 is better, especially as most of the times the manufactures only fitted a bulb on one side to save money, so you might just need to fit a 21w bulb. Safety is irrelevant if you can save 50p a car. Bit like new cars, no spare wheel but a can of rubbish that needs a pump to blow in the tyre. Only problem with that theory is with a hybrid that always start in electric mode, the ignition turns off after 30 seconds unless you are in drive. On your own impossible to use the “puncture kit”! Only took RAC 4 hours to turn up!
Take the windscreen out and before you fit the new one it makes life easier for the body repair on the scuttle. I’d keep it in a Ford Laser oricolour but do the rear disc conversion and brake hoses so, the performance stuff. Makes the sleeper so much better until you press the go pedal and, Capris never had decent brakes ever. My 3 litre was rubbish on brakes, all you noticed was the bonnet dipping long before you felt any braking.
@@stevenmoran4060"proper Capri's" oh so 4 pots are not proper then? Had a load of v6's back in the day and never liked that snob statement. Most sold were 1600's but did those owners not love their cars? All Capri's are dead cool.
Thanks Ben, great format, graft with humour- love it! I’m no mechanic but appreciate what you’re doing. Best of luck with that Capri, it’ll be awesome when it’s done!
Metallic black/purple. Thy look amazing. Reflections really catch the light. A muted black that turns to shine in the light. The patterns change in different light conditions. Love your down to earth, relaxed style. Keep up the content
Love the Capri, especially this version of the Laser! It just looks so meaty and ready to attack, its just such an iconic british car. Great job in restoring this beauty, keep up the work :)
Personally, I'd leave it looking a standard black Laser, lower it a tad and upgrade the brakes as we all know they aren't known for their great brakes. A 2.8 lsd, make it a proper sleeper. I've got an st170 Focus remapped, and it goes really well, yours should fly
I am so envious. I had a Capri in the 90's should never have got rid as I have regretted doing so ever since. Am loving this series as i do all the other videos
I'm saving for another I'm only 4 grand saved ...gonna need 10 at least but not spending any more than 7 or 8 and only looking at 1.6 or 2.0 with an MOT... I'm sick that I spent so little buying several back in the day . My Capri is for LIFE this time around .. LESSON LEARNED.
@@T010180Expensive here too I'm sooooo kicking myself for not storing one away ...lack of support back in the day is partially why I had to sell /lose my Capri
Loving this episode and the Matt Armstrong reference! A collaboration between the two of you would be such a head on collision in terms of ethos and approach… and car choices! 😊
Paint it Ford Signal orange, it’ll look ace. Leave the drum brakes and spend your money on the front brakes, lots of choice out there and it will make more of a difference.. Rear suspension, single leafs, poly bushes and an axle location kit makes a big difference. Love the project so far, just got a 2.0 laser on the road after 21 years for a mate of mine!!
The Ford Mustang green would be cool as hell , the old mustangs are my favourite American car , I’d love to get myself one to restore, love watching your show , I’m glad I found you a could of months ago , watching from Scotland 🏴
I think the Capri looks really good in black. My suggestion would be Ford Panther Black - will give it a nice sparkle in the sun. As Ford the rear brakes (see what I did there 😆), given the likely performance, and the fact you won’t be able to resist a trip to the ring lol, save up a bit more dosh and go for the rear disk conversion 😊
Great channel Ben...seeing this capri brought back memories of the first time doing over 150 mph, was this model capri with a cammed 351 Cleveland V8 on a rod run put on by the local hotrod club my older brother was a member of...i ended up swapping it for a big block chev powered T bucket which was originally powered by a granada V6 from a capri. Keep up the awesome work.
Definitely do the brake conversion and the suspension upgrades and paint it black with all original looking decals. Proper sleeper style. Be insane 👌 wish I was wealthier to help you out.
Hi Ben love the Capri my mates brother go in the early 80,s had a mint 1.6 laser in sky blue he had a alfa sud which was so nice, love the focus I had a w reg 1.6. 16v auto it went like a rocket someone had put the 16v in it just needed touch body not a lot and bits mechanical if I was a sub to you go in 2021 of given it you I scrapped it. Keep it looking like a standard 1.6 laser in my opinion. Can’t improve on the classic Capri look. Ultimate sleeper car. Thanks as usual for another great episode. 👍👍
I had a Jaguar XF which was a very dark green, which in certain lights looked black. I’m sure it was botanical green. Before you even mentioned green I thought green it’s a stunning colour polished and in the sun light! Can’t wait to see until it’s all done! Might even come with you in my 74 3.0 Essex Capri 🤣🤣
These are lovely pens, I took has one, sold it and regret doing so. I only sold it because I have a 1970s full size Pilot Elite (albeit still quite a slim compact pen), which has a similar lovely nib , just 18k instead. That pen is always inked and just fantastic. The E95s feels like a survivor from that earlier time, and all to the good for that!
Modern ford colour would look cool Ben. They did a nice maroon on the capri but maybe pop a mtalic through it.... like the spitfire in the modern green...
Standard gloss black with original Laser decals. Gold JPS pinstripes were on Mark 2 Capri's so wouldn't look right. Stay with the cheapest (original) option but do it well👍
Some great suggestions already for the colour, I'd stay with Black, detailed stock as a Laser with the twist being the engine. Love the Capri had a 2 litre Ghia as a 19 year old. Absolute class it was. Enjoying this series.
