Oh that's so lovely, a really great beginner project
This is perfect for my Bible(s) when I'm wanting to take one with me somewhere but don't want to carry my big Bible case. I'm always worried the pages are gonna get dirty or wrinkled just sitting in my purse so this is a great solution! :)

Thank you, I'm afraid I'm not sure, but nothing too thick at all. Even just some scrap sweatshirt fabric would work
Use a low loft batting so it will not be super fluffy or an iron on batting which is a great way to go. It will give the book bag some structure.
Each time I make one of these, they come out a lot smaller than I measured! I’m even including extra for seam allowance plus another inch as instructed. Any tips on how to stop this? I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong 😕
They are definitely a snug fit, but if you are finding they are too small try adding an extra 1-2cm to your measurements for a little more ease

What measurements did you use
Your measurement is variable depending on the size of your book. She gave you a formula for an approximate size. No measurement numbers are set in stone. An easy make .

I don't understand why you just don't use a smaller seam allowance rather than have to trim the excess???
Sometimes if the seam allowance is too small the fabric can get eaten up by the machine
