I actually need to thank you ☺️. I’ve used this video many times and I’ve made 47 book covers for friends and family’s. This is the most clear and informative video out there!
@@Hannah_Dixon there’s a foam you can get from Michael’s that I used. It didn’t mess up my machine. I don’t remember what it was though. I made them a while ago lol
Thanks so much for posting this! I literally started sewing less than a week ago, and this was the third project I made and it turned out fantastic! Your instructions were super clear and informative. It took me less than an hour but I think I'm going to get faster because I'm planning on making this my go-to birthday gift!
Thank you so much for posting this! I made my first book sleeve this past week and I'm in love with it! I love being able to pick out my own fabrics and materials and it's really not that intimidating to make (thanks to your excellent instructions). Because of you, I'll never have to buy another overpriced book sleeve again. Thank you!
This is the absolute best "How To" that I have found! I watched several but this one is it!! Just made mine watching this and it was exactly on point, easy, and I'm super proud of my first book sleeve!❤ THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR AN AMAZING TUTORIAL!!
I’m so happy to have found this video. I didn’t know these were a thing until an ad popped up on FB but like you said, they were almost $20+shipping; even eBay had them for $15. As I’ve been known to carry 2 to 3 books with me at all times, the price would have mounted up pretty fast. I’d thought about knitting something like this but it would probably get dirty and fuzzy quickly. I’m heading out to Joanne or Hobby Lobby ASAP and now I have an excuse to use my poor lonely sewing machine.
just finished making my first booksleeve, this tutorial is amazing, I had zero problems following and my finished sleeve looks amazing. thank you so much❤
Do you think you'll make another book sleeve tutorial in the future? Maybe detailing how to make book sleeves with pockets or flaps? I would love to see what you would come up with.
This is so cool! Thanks for showing this! I've been wanting to get one of these and now I can do it myself. I sew too, I have my own machine and I also make clothes. Btw, don't worry about the lines being perfect it just means each stitch has personality!
Very nice and great directions! I may make a few of these for my daughter. I mainly use an e-reader, but she still reads physical books. Although.... I could make one for my Kindle. :)
Super easy! I would spray the adhesive inside a cardboard box outdoors for safety and to prevent overspray of adhesive onto any other surface. But great job all around!
This is a great project for my mom and I to do over the summer. she has literal SHELVES of fabric for projects she hasn't done, so maybe we can use some for these
Hi Jessica! I'm a bookaholic & I just found you on youtube a few days ago! Now I just found this diy book sleeve video of yours & I love it so much I subscribed to your channel! I am also a crafter & can't wait to use your pattern to make myself some cool book sleeves! Thanks!💜📚
Thanks for a great tute!! I dropped my kindle this week and broke the glass part. I'll be making one of these to protect it & add a button/loop to it. I think I'll use quilt batting tho. I'm not sure what your "foam" is.
It's not foam, it's called interfacing :) awesome video!!!!! Great idea. Think I'll try it because I had when the corner of a cover folds up! There is also interfacing that irons onto your fabric so you don't need adhesive spray 👌🏻
Sydney West ask for interfacing at the store. They'll know exactly what you mean and if you tell them what you're making they'll know which type of interfacing you'll want 😀👍🏻
Hi I'm extremely interested in making one of these but I have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. I need to know how you came up with your measurements for the fabric and foam? I'm wanting to make one for my paperback books and one for my hardcover books. So the one for my hardcover books would need to be much larger. So I need to know how you came up with your measurements to make it fit that book that you have? Did you measure the book and then add x amount of inches or where did you get your measurements from? how did you come up with them? Please explain in-depth to me because it has been years since I have sown anyting. I used to sew back in the day when I was younger when I lived with my grandmother but that was when I was like 10 years old and I'm 28 now so it's been an extremely long time. LOL. Anyways I also wanted to tell you that I absolutely love this video and I wish you would do more videos like this in the future. It was extremely informative and I love the way that you explained everything and made it very simple and uncomplicated.
This is a fantastic tutorial!! Thank you so much!!! I knew I could do this just needed to know how. I have the perfect Mickey Mouse fabric to use, just need the foam!!
Have you tried making them with different sizes at all? I'm trying to make one that's going to fit 2-3" wide books. I bought one that fits a ton of books, but not the thicker books.
I have! If you look up any book sleeves already for sale on etsy in a size you would like to make, all you have to do is add half an inch on each side and cut that out. So if I wanted to make one that's 10x8, I would cut it out 11x9. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the tutorial :) . The sleeve looks really good and i love the fabric. I smiled when i first heard you say the quote because it's my phone's wallpaper.
Just found you today thru Joy Filled Stitcher - first, you are adorable and full of energy I can tell. This is a fun video and I appreciate your time sharing. I will make one for sure!!
Is there a way at add pockets to the front? If so how would you do it? I'm new to sewing but I absolutely need these for the tons of books I'm reading. I'd like to keep my book light handy for trip and that would be a great place for it.
Just found your tutorial! What kind of foam is it called? Can it be purchased on Amazon? I wanted to make some sleeves for my sisters for Christmas. I know this video is old, hoping I get a reply .
I've just sewn my first book sleeve and it turned out good! Not perfect and it gave me a few problems but I'm happy with the result, I'll definitely will be sewing more in different sizes 👏😍
I see you love books too!!! Do you have the thickest book in the Harry Potter series? I would like to make her sleeves for her books!!! Are they all the same in height??? I know they have all different thicknes's! Can you help me?? I would be very greatful for you help!! Thank you!!!📘📙📗📕
Finally! A book sleeve tutorial! Thank you so much for this! Are there any measurements you would recommend or do you measure them to fit specific books?
This is the basic method I use, however I embellish it more by adding a pocket that’s 2/3 the tallest side, add some rickrack, make a top strap and add a button closure. Maybe snaps. Let my imagination go!
Hi there! Okay so, how do I get the fabric into those perfect looking shapes in the first place? Do you have any recommendations for a razor, scissors or a cutting board? I love sleeves but they’re so expensive! I’d love to be able to make my own!
Hi... I saw the entire video, it is amazing. I always wanted to get something, so my question to you... Do you sell them if yes, then I am genuinely interested for a couple of them. I loved the entire thing.
Is there anyway you can tell me what the the setting are on your sewing machine? My thread keeps breaking :-( I think the stitch is too close also. Idk 🤔
Some libraries have sewing machines you can actually use. You just sign up for the time. I recommend you have everything cut out and pinned so you are ready to sew when you get there. Often times, they might also have classes to teach you how to use their machine (how to wind a bobbin and thread the needle, just general operation knowledge). Also, try thrift shops. They will sometimes have sewing machines for sale at a very reasonable price. If there are accessories missing, you can almost always find them on eBay or even Etsy. If you are missing the instruction manual, you could find a pdf version on the Internet as well. Hope this helps.
I know this video is from 3 years ago but I just wanted to ask, how far away from the borders did you sew it? (not the part at the end, the other parts)
I was wondering for the foam what do I look for? I have gone to Walmart and can not seem to find it in their fabric section. I have everything I need to hand sew it except the needle thread and foam. I really want to make one of these!!
I have tried everything I know to keep the machine from skipping stitches. I have adjusted everything for thicken materials and nothing works. It skips stitches and breaks thread constantly. Any help would be appreciated!
I actually need to thank you ☺️. I’ve used this video many times and I’ve made 47 book covers for friends and family’s. This is the most clear and informative video out there!
Apparently this is a very old video. Yet i just found it lol. I just made my own book sleeve, thank you for showing us how :)
What type of foam did u get bc I got a foam board and my mom said it would mess up her sewing machine

4 years later and this is still the best and simplest tutorial I've found! thank you sm I'm making like 6 for Christmas presents :)
This is great! I literally wanted to make my own but don't know the process. Thanks a lot!!!
You're welcome!

I feel like that would be so convenient
Nice and simple. Love it. Not a lot of needless talking. You get right to the point.👍
This video was so helpful! Thank you for posting this! I was curious, what kind of foam did you use, and where did you get it? Thanks!
This is so cool! Thanks for showing this! I've been wanting to get one of these and now I can do it myself. I sew too, I have my own machine and I also make clothes. Btw, don't worry about the lines being perfect it just means each stitch has personality!
Haha, that's so true! I just like to think you can just tell that it's handmade with love ;)
Very nice and great directions! I may make a few of these for my daughter. I mainly use an e-reader, but she still reads physical books. Although.... I could make one for my Kindle. :)
I made one for my kindle!! I just made it in small dimensions and love it :)
Super easy! I would spray the adhesive inside a cardboard box outdoors for safety and to prevent overspray of adhesive onto any other surface. But great job all around!
Very helpful video. Clear, easy-easy-to-follow instructions. Thank you!
This was such a great video to watch! Thank you for your tutorial, I can't wait to try to make one of these!
Thank you! I hope yours turns out well!

Thanks for this tutorial! I will have to see what kind of foam that is. I have lots of fabric and can't wait to make these.
This is the best video I've seen. Thank you for taking the time to share!
Do you have a link to the type of foam you are using that you can sew on? Is it washable? Thanks! Great tutorial.
I love it! Great job! Do you think fusible fleece would work?
Phew my bank account said thanks! Gonna make it soon!
Thanks for a great tute!! I dropped my kindle this week and broke the glass part. I'll be making one of these to protect it & add a button/loop to it. I think I'll use quilt batting tho. I'm not sure what your "foam" is.
Thank you for this tutorial. I’m barely seeing this 3 yrs later. Thanks 🙏. Looks very nice
Just finding this video and it makes making a book sleeve simple. Thank you! What type of foam do you use?
This is a great tutorial! I finished one and now I'm hooked, going to make three more as gifts. Thanks!
Hi! This is a great video. How do you figure out the measurements for smaller books?
It's not foam, it's called interfacing :) awesome video!!!!! Great idea. Think I'll try it because I had when the corner of a cover folds up! There is also interfacing that irons onto your fabric so you don't need adhesive spray 👌🏻
what type of interfacing did you use?
umm sorry, what is interfacing mean?
the moderately stiff material, especially buckram, typically used between two layers of fabric in collars and facings.
Danielle Waltz thanks for saying this bc I have been searching and searching for thin foam
Sydney West ask for interfacing at the store. They'll know exactly what you mean and if you tell them what you're making they'll know which type of interfacing you'll want 😀👍🏻

now I have to learn how to sew :/
Hi! Thanks for this nice tutorial. Could you also make it with a patterned fabric? I have problems orienting my fabric pieces.....Thanks again!
Thank u, I made one for my instruction books, without the wading as I didn’t have any but still a great book pouch.Xx☺️
Thank you for sharing! I really wanted to have one but also didn't want to spend so much on book sleeves. This is so helpful :)
This looks amazing!! I wish I had a sewing machine so I could make this!!
This is a fantastic tutorial!! Thank you so much!!! I knew I could do this just needed to know how. I have the perfect Mickey Mouse fabric to use, just need the foam!!
Love this tutorial! Goal for the year, practice sewing!

Considering knitting one instead. Think that would be fun too.
Wow the booksleeve tured out great you,re very good at sowing i wish i could sow like you.
If you have trouble sewing straight on areas where the stitches show, you can hide the stitches by adding embellishments like lace.
Hi there! Just stumbled across your video and am hoping to make my first book sleeve in the near future. What kind of foam do I need and how much?
I love this video, so helpful! I would be so greatful if it were possible to redo this video in a higher quality!
Thanks for the tutorial :) . The sleeve looks really good and i love the fabric. I smiled when i first heard you say the quote because it's my phone's wallpaper.
I kinda wish I hadn’t spent $30 on my BookBeau one. Headed to get some foam tomorrow and trying this myself. Thank you!
This is so super! We just made our own book sleeves, they look amazing and your instructions were easy to follow. Thanks for the video :)
Omg thank you!! I've been waiting and looking for a video like this for a while!! It looks pretty easy, can't wait to try this!! :)
Thank you for the tutorial! Just fininshed my first book sleeve based on this video :D

I see you love books too!!! Do you have the thickest book in the Harry Potter series? I would like to make her sleeves for her books!!!

I would be very greatful for you help!! Thank you!!!📘📙📗📕

Love this! Making my first today
Thank you!! Made a book sleeve this afternoon successfully for the first time from your video! :)
Yay! That's great to hear!!
Such a great video! Going to try and make one! Thank you for sharing 🌸
Trying to find similar foam, do you know where I could find some? Preferably online?
Yes I love it I read the kindle that’s a good idea 💡
Finally! A book sleeve tutorial! Thank you so much for this!
Are there any measurements you would recommend or do you measure them to fit specific books?
I usually cute my pieces into 8.5 x 10.5 inches before sewing. They end up fitting most paperback books!
Thank you for sharing! A nice project to do! Very easy to follow! 👍🏽
Can you fit a small book in a large book sleeve? Will it still protect it?
Great tutorial! My machine however won’t go through the 2 layers of foam. Ugh 😑
This was THE perfect tutorial! Thank you!!
Thank you for this brilliant video
What kind of material have you used for the book sleeves?

Rotary cutter helps cut straight. It changed my sewing game
Can this be made with opening on side? In other words, where the book can be inserted sideways.
im about to make so many of these haha my books get all messed up in my bag lol
What thickness should the interfacing/form be? 😊
What is the foam called? Or is this a certain thickness?
I these too and sell them online for 10$ it's cool that you use foam I only use fabric and kinda blanket liner :)
Yessss!!!! Thank you! I wanted to make one of these for so long but just couldn't figure it out!
You're welcome :)

hi can those book sleeve fit any size of books?
Hi! cool video, can I ask you about the place you mentioned, book bow, I can´t find it, is that name right? many thanks!
Florencia Seggio it’s book beau!
@@PeaceLoveBooksxo beautiful! thank you :)
That's so cool. Now i will make some 😊
thank u soooo much, god bless u for showing us how.
Can you do this hand sewing?? I don’t have a sewing machine.
I have not tried, but I don't think it would be easy if you decided to hand sew it.

Whew I’m back after 7 years 😂 gotta make some more since my two are a little dated with the fabric I chose at the time
I know this video is from 3 years ago but I just wanted to ask, how far away from the borders did you sew it? (not the part at the end, the other parts)
Love this great tutorial! Thank you
I was wondering for the foam what do I look for? I have gone to Walmart and can not seem to find it in their fabric section. I have everything I need to hand sew it except the needle thread and foam. I really want to make one of these!!
It's called Flex-Foam and it's actually considered interfacing. Jo Ann's sells it on a bolt.
Also when making the book sleeves how big would you say for the bigger hardcover books would I go for the fabric???
So cute and such a good idea. Tfs
I have tried everything I know to keep the machine from skipping stitches. I have adjusted everything for thicken materials and nothing works. It skips stitches and breaks thread constantly. Any help would be appreciated!
Hi! What kind of sewing machine can you recommend in sewing foam like this? Thank you.
Can I ask where u bought your sewing machine?
Спасибо. Просто и полезно!!!❤😊
May I ask if what's the name of the spray??
Thank you for sharing this!
Thats so cool.thank you for your video.
