Yeah Eustance is as bad as Boomstick says he is. Eustace will go out of his way to make Courage's life horrible out of pure spite. Reverse Flash had a reason to hate Flash a very petty reason but at least a reason. Eustace has none.
While it doesn’t excuse his actions, he likely acts like that because of his abusive mom and mean brother. It’s very rare, but he does have some moments of genuine niceness in the show.
While most of it doesn't really stick because of the episodic nature of the show, there are actually a ton of moments of character depth and development for Eustace. He has a terrible family that is shown in some episodes and really makes it easy to see how he's such a cruel manchild who would torture Courage over stealing the affection of the only person who's nice to him. Aside from that, there are times where the two have to work together or have character moments together. Like I said, a lot of it doesn't stick, but many episodes show Eustace to be less terrible than he seems.
I appreciate that when this fight was announced, I thought "What a horrible idea! I don't want to see either of them die! I'd only be happy if it was a draw and they both lived," and then that's literally exactly what happened. 10/10 execution.
@@drinfernodds Same, I wasn't thinking "wow that's a good impression" I was thinking "wow how'd they convince the original voice actor to do this video".
I couldn't agree more. It's really close impersonation, but now that I know I can kind of hear the difference when I think of the pilot version of Hazbin Hotel/Alastor's voice. Still, he did an amazing job. In my opinion most people can do a scooby pretty easily, but courage is a little harder to nail.
I love how courage and Scooby even while basically trying to kill each other over who fights the monster are still having fun, and acting like it’s more of a friendly bout than anything. It really makes it wholesome and even though they are fighting they still love and respect each other and will let bygones be bygones no matter who wins or well after in this case.
Honestly, I thought nothing was going to top Bill v Discord for me, but this definitely did since I loved both shows and the animation felt like it was straight from the show. DB needs to do more cartoon fights like this and Bill v Discord as they seem to be better anymore.
I think this is one of the most heartwarming ending in Death Battle history! Like seriously the fact the two of them just laugh off the entire fight makes the whole thing wholesome.
Right?, seems like something Cartoon Network would have done in his golden days, you know... when... Adult Swim was actually a Cartoon Network block, that was something xd
Can we just talk about how INSANE the animation was in this episode?? This is seriously THE BEST one yet, the blending of animation styles, the fluidity of movement, the character's expression AND on model designs, creative and hilarious use of toon force, the SFX give a satisfying impact to every action. as a huge animation nerd this episode was a FEAST for the eyes! ❤
I love how most Scooby doo villains at least have reasons for acting scary (Either for money or for attention) Meanwhile, Eustace just likes to scare dogs.
I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some hidden stash of money in the manor or something, would further explain Eustace being there, guy's greedy as hell.
No matter what you think of the result, I think we can all agree it was so satisfying seeing Eustace get his comeuppance for all his heinous actions towards Courage.
Courage screaming after Lt. Columbo says "Just one more thing" is such an underrated reference. When the Lieutenant asks you just one more thing, you should always be afraid.
Fun Fact, the reason he appears here is because Liam Swan, one of the writers of this episode, along with many other episodes, really wants Columbo VS Light Yagami to become an episode someday.
I got it since my parents/grandparents always watched Columbo. I always find it funny every episode he always talks to the actual killer and always tease them with that phrase, lol.
This, and SpongeBob vs SuperFriennds Aquaman are probably my favorites. Understands the characters well, but doesn’t take it too seriously since neither would the characters take it seriously.
I don't think I've laughed so hard at the death battle in a long time. Having the fight start to see you would stand up to the monster chasing them was a great touch because they are canonically friends. Scooby-Doo turning into a giant that eclipses the planet straight out of Asura's Wrath made me burst out into laughter. I usually don't mention the music but the song be reminiscent of some of the island was epic And this was a very rare DB draw. They're both too good boys to die. Excellent episode. Very hyped for Rick vs the Doctor too.
Damn people just hate Eustace, yes he was a jerk to others but I mean look at his life mom,dad and brother constantly put him down, hell his brother nicknames him useless when they were growing up and his mom calls him stupid boy. Again his actions aren't justified but if you're just gonna say he's a jerk just to be a jerk then you only payed half attention
@@lucasdiazjr5679 Eustace isn't just a jerk. His behaviours are beyond anything that a jerk would display. He's a straight up sociopath combined with several other illnesses Taking advantage of people, greed, neglect, deliberatedly putting others in danger and himself through ignorance, abandonment of the people close to him (mainly Muriel) when in need, lack of gratefulness or any level of politeness/courtesies, openly insulting people, lack of agency for his own insults/actions despite knowing they are malicious, theft, defying authority, intoxication, collusion with foes that hurt him personally, anger issues and emotional immaturity, superiority complex. Literally the only good thing he does in Muriel's life is presumably rebuild his house himself after every disaster that destroys it. And considering how the roof and most of it is is literally made of plain wood, he cheapens out on that as well, opting to live in a card castle awaiting to crumble.
Whoever wrote the visual jokes in this episode deserves a raise. As someone who grew up watching Courage, it was a wonderful tribute to both franchises.
"But this is a death battle, someone has to die." "Someone did Wiz. Ahh someone did" "Anybody tell you your kind of... scary sometimes" "I don't like dog killers!" Best dialogue out of the whole episode! Awesome episode!
The animation team killed this one. Probably one of the best 2D-animated battles of all time. I adore how courage and Scooby feels like they're both straight out of their respective shows. The monster being 3D animated is just as good too, since it fits with how Courage villains typically have that really early CGI look to them to add to their unervingness. (Harvest Moon, King Tut, Perfect) What an amazing love letter to both series.
I can’t believe the monster was Eustace this entire time and he would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for those meddling dogs. Also it was great to finally see mama Boomstick.
I've never been so satisfied with an ending of Death Battle. The premise that these two good bois, who are canon friends, would fight each other is heartbreaking. Also, holy crap, the animation of the monster was horrifying

As much as I am 100% here for matchups like Frieza vs Megatron. This Deathbattle was an absolute love letter to my childhood and I don't think it could have been animated any better.
And an ending that is canonically accurate and appropriate for both! Scooby being friends with his friend, Eustace being punished, and everything returning to “normal” so the next episode can start.
I also think that the gang (especially Shaggy) can only do the same feats as Scooby but only when they are around Scooby. On their own, they're just normal humans.
Didn't know until this video that Courage was supposed to be a beagle, and honestly that checks out. His panicked gibberish when trying to point out danger to Muriel is pretty much the cartoon equivalent of when a beagle thinks it saw or heard something and must run toward the woods and bark at it loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear.
Boomstick said it perfectly in courage's breakdown "He may be small and he may be scared, but standing up to our fears is what makes us brave in the first place, that's why, his name, is courage"

Honestly Courage has so many horror moments played up by disorienting animation contrast that it's hard to know what you're even referring to this being a "call back" to.
Something to keep in mind: Courage's scream in the original clip wasn't out of fear. He screamed like that because he was so heartbroken at seeing the talking tree cut down. So chances are, that's not even the strongest his yell can get. Plus, Courage is way stronger than you'd think.

It really makes it wholesome and even though they are fighting they still love and respect each other and will let bygones be bygones no matter who wins or well after in this case.
The genuine concern Courage has when he thinks he has accidently killed Scooby with the ray gun was touching

Courage screaming after Lt. Columbo says "Just one more thing" is such an underrated reference. When the Lieutenant asks you just one more thing, you should always be afraid.
When you spend years meticulously crafting an airtight scheme and alibi then Columbo hits you with the "one more thing"
It's so weird that I learned about Columbo mere days before this. I'm 34.
