It's a freaking crime that both of these franchises aren't supported anymore. They are some of the most fun and unique sandbox games ever and they were just left to die for no reason
Honestly if Cole were a comic book hero Alex would probably be one of his best villains. They thematically similar they both have potential ways to win a fight against one another and if we use good cole we have get an interesting philosophic contrast as well. Plus Alex’s powers give him a good excuse to come back repeatedly which is great for mainstay villain
This is cap it is common knowledge that prototype writers for the second game drop the ball on Alex Murphy's character just to get a cash grab for a black guy as the main character they bitched Alex out in this match Alex can summon hordes of zombie infected giant kiju why he chose not to me even though he chose to use them on James Heller is ridiculous cuz if they were in a death battle I would use the last fight with James where Alex Mercer through everything I was the super intelligent virus and had already absorbed countless other intelligent people I would have worn down this individual with the growing army of my infected avenue and then when his defenses were at his lowest send one or two of my evolve generals to try and absorbed him then if that successful worked absorbed his power from them or if that failed keep sending down zombie and then go in my self 😭 it's like you writers don't know how to consciously use this character powers if you were to say that col could absorb bio electric energy from his hords of zombie I would go to say when u killed any character in game you could not absorb them but when there alive or on the verge of death hoe about in stead of picking a script out the trash we scale these characters right 👍👍👍😅
If they had a TV show, Alex would be a perfect main villain for Cole. He comes off crazy overpowered and evil, but he can die repeatedly and come back for another episode whenever Cole beats him. All the while, he's trying to get Cole to join the evil side, which is actually possible considering Evil Cole is a potential future
The fact Alex is a literal parasite who can survive if even a scrap of him survives does so much. Because a small chunk of flesh that gets eaten by a bug or a desperate animal will start it all over again.
@@Broomer52their contrast also is basically Superman vs Braniac/Lex Luthor in dynamic, Cole is a Working Man's Hero, he is just a Delivery Man who got really extreme Powers, Alex is a Smart brilliant Scientist that had lost all morals but has powers that makes him enough of a threat to Cole and means that he can't be defeated easily.
Well, unfortunately, consumers need to learn to stop shoveling money into it. Otherwise, companies like EA will keep on doing it. They are literally getting rewarded for doing something that we hate.
I’m confused by your comment? These are both single player games, do of course they have no micro transactions. There is still single player games like that today such as god of war or Spider-Man you can play start to finish no micro transactions needed. I think you’ve just been playing the wrong games bruh
No, you got it, and honestly, that line suits him well. He would still commit to being a hero after so much crap he's been through. Unless, of course, he's the evil version lol.
@@hammerite6418 That is true. John White even convinced Cole that they could save many conduits with his method, which opened the door to another alternative. So it really came down to what was the best option for Cole to take. This makes Infamous 2 an awesome game!
Ok ngl it took me 2 rewatches to appreciate the “script-wrote-in-2013” joke, all the outdated videogame references, Boomstick ex-wife jokes and hearing Wiz say “Lets end this debate once and for all” brought back so many memories 😭🥺 I love Death Battle
I honestly thought it was Ionic Drain from (i wanna say) the second game, where its an ultimate, though maybe not since he had ice powers, so he was good karma
@@trankia1224I remember you could only be a certain amount of evil before you cant use ice though. Like max either locks the other route. Because I had an all fire set but when I beat the game it locked me out of fire because I went pure good. And beating either game caps out your karma. Also Nightmare grenade is op.
"Put Down" something people tend to forget but by the start of Prtotype Alex is dead. The player character is the blacklight virus. Not only that but the viruses ability to regenerate from the smallest amount of material means it very well could have survived the final fight of prototype 2. The ending of the first and second game are contradictory which has led to theories that James didn't actually kill "Alex Mercer" . Not only that the lore insinuates the only real match for him would be Pariah, the child of Elizabeth Green and a naturally occurring Black Light Virus
What I find interesting about Alex is that in the end, he welcomed his death. He was alone at the top of the food chain, the only of his kind. He tried to make others like him, but they were pale imitations, better than humans, but worse than him. Yet, when Heller had Alex at his mercy, he realized he *did* succeed in making someone like him. Better yet, someone *better* than him. Unlike Alex, who had no reason to maintain his humanity, Heller still did. "Welcome to top of the food chain" isn't meant to be rude, or even a compliment, it's a warning. Heller is going to be alone, like Alex was. He can try to fill that void with family and friends like Alex tried to, but even if Heller's family accepts him, he will likely outlive his own children and likely even grandchildren. He is at the top, and Alex could not be de-throned until something stronger came along. The same will likely happen to Heller. (Or would've if Prototype wasn't cancelled...)
To be fair, its been a long standing fan theory that either Alex isn't really dead or he wanted Heller to kill him (basically suicide the long way around).
That line was bad@ss but not technically accurate. Since Cole can't take powers from bio leech. Just bio electricity from the person. Then again bio electricity does power the body so technically it is taking his "power". So maybe it does work.
@@leonardorolingstella8554 If he hasn't given him the idea Cole probably just would have vaporized him with a nuke level lightning bolt while simultaneously fully healing himself, it's honestly almost a mismatch
Not going to lie, but Cole shutting down Alex's speech of a 'better world' bull crap is oddly satisfying. Goes to show how well written the character arc is for Cole, while Alex still stuck in the same place he always did because he let the choices of the few taint his world view on humanity. While Cole is always changing, Alex never seems to change. Ironic knowing Alex has power over evolution.
Alex had his mind molded by the diagnosed narcissistic psychopath that was Dr. Mercer. He was an almost exact clone of the man so he might have been doomed from the start. Dr. Mercer was a bad man and Alex was molded after him with even less real world experience. He was probably never going to grow
There's also the fact that Cole has crossed paths with quite a few megalomaniacal types who are convinced they know best for everyone and try to impose their worldview through violent means. Makes sense that when he heard the same spiel coming out of Alex's mouth, he was having none of it.
What I find interesting about Alex is that in the end, he welcomed his death. He was alone at the top of the food chain, the only of his kind. Mate, you may be cooking. If a hypothetical Prototype 3 were ever made, I think an interesting premise could involve an older but overtly un-aged James Heller having outlived everyone he ever loved and falling into despair, ultimately becoming a villain he initially despised. And the new protagonist viewing him as Heller did Mercer, but this time attempting to reinstate his lost humanity, desperately attempting to break the cycle of the Blacklight virus' influence. Heck, maybe even have a projection of Mercer haunting James, telling him the life of anguish inevitable and convincing him to fall into further depravity. Of course, Activision probably isn't gonna touch the franchise ever again, but I'd still love to imagine.
I'm partial to the theory that, since Alex is the blacklight virus, he actually makes all the other infected to create a genetic algorithm scenario. A genetic algorithm in AI is where the ai makes a bunch of slightly different copies, makes them compete at a task, and then chooses the best one. Alex makes a bunch of infected, and since whoever wins will have to absorb the others, he will ultimately still win. His consciousness and memories exist within Heller and they merge into one being. The blacklight virus still wins.
Cole can also recharge directly from a thunder storm. He’s done it before in the mission “The Storm” where he was literally calling down lightning from the sky to recharge himself.
God that mission was so sick. Hearing that one iceman calling out “he’s drawing energy from the storm!” and then them bringing everything they have in to desperately stop you was so cool. It really felt like you were top dog among the conduits bringing down a reckoning. Damn I miss Cole : (
@@jonathanjoestarwithpluck4930 Yes!! That’s was one of the best parts of it. Out of all 3 games that one mission is my favorite of all time. Same here man. I liked Cole a bit more than Delsin. It would be nice if we got another game featuring Cole but we can only hope.
Just love how this fight was like 2000's boss fight for Cole with Alex going through his different stages. And when Alex tried infecting Cole, I could just hear the sound of mashing the X button to resist (or whatever it was for your gaming experience)
@@heinrichze-france4089 Funny thing about that thought, Asura's won a QTE fight with someone else that can use them before. God I love that game. (Not that God of War isn't great stuff.)
There are some TRULY sick cosplays of Mercer and Heller out there. As in, at a convention they would get high-fives and picture requests, outside they would get screams and police called.
now that wold be a real winner. Prototype with AAA graphics and smoother gameplay would be insane. Especially in this age of oversaturated goodguy superhero games
As an inFAMOUS fan this made me so happy, waiting 10 years was totally worth it. Cole and Alex were legends in the PS3/360 era of gaming and seeing the result just made me even more happy. God I wish inFAMOUS and Prototype got another chance to be relevant again they just brought a different vibe compared to other open-world sandbox games.
I literally just redownloaded these games a few days ago and then this uploaded the next day. I type in “prototype vs infamous” and had to do a double take when it said “uploaded yesterday”
I’d love to see a what if game of second son but cole became the beast. Me and a friend have planned out the plot and some choices but when we took it to sucker punch via their website they said “we’re too busy with our current projects and have no room for more ideas” but as far as I know he(my friend) still has the paper we drew together and if we could we love to give it to them.
I wonder what the movie that cole had after he defeated alex was like: Probably something like: "I don't know what i expected, this "mercer" guy wasn't like any conduit i've ever faced before. The guy was nuts. But the thing about any of these crazed bastards is this: I will always do what it takes to protect my loved ones."
Or to imagine the evil Cole version: "Thought after the First Sons, after Bertrand, after the Beast, that I'd seen the worst Conduits this world had to offer. But this Mercer guy was on a whole other level. How many freaks as powerful as him are still kicking around? Doesn't matter. Whatever hole they're spawning from, I'll teach them to stay there. This world is mine."
I don't think that this comment was a "Who should have won comment", However I respect you opinion anyways. and I hope you have a nice day. @@xxprototypexx5056
15:18 The delivery of that badass line, straight-up roasting his edgy foe while rejecting his offer, followed up by the siphon of electricity, the camera moving down from the tower, the brief violin note followed by the vocals, then the two preparing for an up close fight. This moment, this fight, is so epic.
I can see it going either way, but I do feel Alex should of had a slight edge in a couple regards. One - pack hunters and biobombs. Heller is capable of it, and I do believe Alex is as well, can't quite recall. Second - Adaptability. Coles powers require electricity, and lots of it, but he doesn't generate as much as he can control and manipulate, I don't think. Been years since I beat the infamous games. Mercer has a vaguely similar limitation, potentially. But the issue is the speed of draining. They were in a city scape where Alex could find hundreds of victims to consume within seconds, whereas Cole would have to drain broken machines or downed power lines, which is shown in the games to take him longer. That's not, however, taking into account that Alex needs /biomass/, not human flesh. Plant life, rodents, insects all count, but so does one of Coles arms, which he could hypothetically heal, providing Alex a neverending source in the battle. Third - DNA. Coles DNA is changed, not human standard, but that gives Alex an edge. He duplicates someone on the genetic level... Meaning that he should be capable of the same feats as Cole's once he gets enough of his DNA. Tldr:Alex had access to more 'fuel', a few powers he didn't end up using, and can duplicate Cole's DNA based powers. Sidenote: I could be massively miss remembering things
@@adrianstrider4960 I remember for the particularly brutal missions in the Infamous games, I would always shoot a telephone pole and reabsorb the electricity at a bonus. The conversion rate between usage and drainage were quite strange. I'll argue that the RFI chargers during the beast boss fight prove that he is capable of drawing quickly, the energy grid charging RFI would just arc the energy to Cole. Biomass would still be quite plentiful in comparison, but in a large city, energy isn't so far off kilter.
Honestly im just mad they didn't give mercer the bio bomb, tendrils that heller has and summoning monster atleast they gave him that cool armor skin from prototype 2 though Edit:oh yeah and that move where he blast a kamekameha tendrils and ground spike
Longtime Infamous fangirl personally and even I was thinking the same Thought Alex's healing and arena control were gonna get him the win but I had never been so happy to have been wrong in a while with this show ♡
Also back in 2013, they weren't all that great at researching like they are now. Some people would disagree that they are good now, but they do actual math while in the past they just went "eh, they could probably do this and win" most of the time.
And yet they still didn't bother using the Sonic booms, or when Alex Mercer does his speed that exceeds the tank rounds, which are projectiles moving at supersonic speeds, and death battle gave no Feats whatsoever to Cole in terms of speed. And they didn't bother making a tornado, as Alex Mercer runs circles around his opponent who is unable to perceive him. But that just takes all the fun out of the battle doesn't it Eddit: Cole didn't get a Speed-Feat, but that was for routing electricity hisun and routing electricity is not the same as moving from point A to point B in reaction to a weapon firing at you.
Which could imply James heller failed to stop Alex leading to a black light virus infested apocalyptic earth where Kessler leads a resistance to try and fail to stop Alex leaving Kessler who having no clue as to Alex’s origins resorted to the next best thing and that is using his conduit powers to go back in time and both strengthening his younger self cole and warning him of the beast that would bring the end of world known as alex mercer
I have how Wiz said "Let's end this debate once and for all" like he used to say before the fight would start. I love how they wanted to make this feel like an old script they had just slept on doing for over a decade.
Activated conduits are immune to diseases, which is why the plaque never affected Cole, so the blacklight virus would most likely have no effect on him.
Not immune to disease, immune to The Rayfield Plague. The Plague was caused by the same energy that empowered The Conduits so any awakened Conduit was immune to it. That was the whole point of The Beast's rampage in InFamous 2. To force human evolution by empowering all Conduits on earth at the expense of the other 99% of the world's population.
@@WeaponXSigma Think it would have been different if we saw mercer abusing his ability consume normal people to regenerate though. That was a really big thing to take into account for the fighting was him eating enemies as the battle went on. If Mercer had kept running off to regenerate and charge by eating humans in the area I think he'd have stood a better chance all things considered. It's hard to think about who would win in this fight since it would come down to who ran out of energy sources first. Mercer is no fool either. If he saw cole charging off the power grid he'd pull back and just start breaking the grid left, right, and center. TL:DR I feel like due to the intelligence of both sides and their separate regeneration capabilities a change in arena and resources would greatly shift how this fight would go. This type of fight would potentially go on for WEEKS if not months.
Alex's virus is like trying to infect a fire to become poisonous. As long as Cole's abilities were still active, it'll burn off anything Mercer threw at him.
@@brandonwashington604 i think he means the parasite part where alex got injected with another virus digging through his body and losing his powers, and then injecting a hunter with a serum and consuming him, as a result killing the parasite and getting that sween blade and armor
It should also be noted the "good" Cole, grew his powers to restore and conserve his energy so it's not even guaranteed that Alex could outlast him entirely either. That's not even considering his ability to absorb electricity from nearly everything.
Losing biomass also cuts off some off Alex’s more outwardly destructive powers and he has to keep consuming to keep healing. So while doesn’t get tired in the normal sense he can be worn down.
@@robrockstar9648 true although it’s mainly devastator attack which Death Battle only utilized Alex’s first normal devastator and no other ones like Graveyard spikes of Critical Mass Dev which would’ve seriously hurt Cole if hit and bypass his shields since his shields can only block bullets, not rockets or anything else of the sort, PLUS Alex has consumed people already GOING OVER his maximum biomass capacity so god knows how long it would take to wear him down since he can EASILY create infected like GOLIATHS which tower over anything and everything Alex has ever faced in Prototype 1 AND they can’t even be destroyed by conventional weaponry which is why only Heller could stop them, so a SINGLE Goliath could’ve easily wiped Manhattan off the map itself
I remember requesting this fight years ago and said they were "the kings of collateral damage." I figured the easiest way Cole could win was by using bio leech.
@@xxprototypexx5056bioelectricity is kinda what everything that's ever lived runs on so how would it resist if he took all the juice? The first thing I thought when I saw this match up is how Cole has to constantly fight people with weird virus powers, but Alex has never dealt with anything like Cole before.
When did cole ever fight a virus powered villain? Also even if he had he has never fought someone even remotely similiar to alex. Alex can regenerate from almost anything, can make a wide variety of weapons from his own body, can absorb people and their memories and go on to become a perfect duplicate of said person. Cole has never fought someone like alex and vice versa

@@Sparlis sashas mind control and the blacklight virus are totally different. Cole could not heal a person Who was infected by a ray field plague which Is radiation poisoning from the ray field energy. Meanwhile the blacklight virus turns a normal human into An infected And it evolves into a building sized monster like how we saw in the beggining of prototype 2. Also, death battle literally did not mention anything about the beast getting hit by a 50 kiloton nuke which did far more damage than anything cole has ever done to him, cole even comfirmed himself that the beast Is dead. And they didn't even talk about alex's ability to adapt to almost any situation, like how he was First exposes ti bloodtox which was said to be a counter to the blacklight virus But alex was later immune to it. And death battle saying that alex had to beat his oponents to his level in order to consume them, coles bio leech literally works the exact same. Also they Got alex's consumption wrong because he consumes poeple by turning their body into biomass before he consumes them so even if cole Got alex off of him, a chunk of his body would still be consumed.

15:11 to 15:24 is so damn perfect for me. Everything to Mercer trying to convince Cole that humans are just beneath them and they could rule over them ( Classic Villain right there ) and Cole just outright mocked him for saying so. Easy Top 10 favorite Death Battles for me from that moment alone.
@@xxprototypexx5056 Ehhh, not really. Cole has better feats and a more versatile power, plus biolectric drain is practically a hard counter to Mercer. Not to mention the main villain of the Infamous series wiped entire cities in single attacks and Cole just tanked his attacks and eventually overpowered him.
@@EnbyOccultist no he doesn't, not even close. Cole's greatest speed feat was dodging a single radiowave from David, which isn't enough to say he's light speed since it's not consistently done. Mercer dodged the tendrils of the Supreme hunter, which created a sonic boom and even outpaced it. Mercer consistently dodged this over and over again, making him massively hypersonic. Cole had his bones crushed by the beast holding him tightly in their first fight(a being who's only strength feat was throwing a chunk of a building sized statue, Mercer and Heller could tank hits from Elizabeth and Goliath, beings who could oneshot tanks and destroy buildings. Cole doesn't even really have any proper strength feats outside of his kinetic pulse. even with kinetic pulse he could only lift cars. Mercer could throw tanks and apcs around with one hand like it were a beach ball. They claimed Cole Cole tank a raysphere blast, which isn't even a feat since conduits are guaranteed to survive a raysphere blast, and it did no where near as much damage as the 75 kiloton nuke in P1. Near the very end of P2, Alex was at the lvl where he could tank that nuke direct hit. Even the beast doesn't have as much durability since it was obliterated by a 51 kiloton nuke. "Bioleech is a hard counter to mercer" No, no it isn't. DBs argument on that stems on regular human biology and not virology. Mercer is the blacklight virus itself, virus don't have metabolic processes to produce energy to be drained. It's the reason why viruses aren't even considered alive IRL. don't believe DB just because they said so, they've been proven wrong over and over by their own logic. Wonder Woman vs Thor is a great example of that.
@@EnbyOccultist also, no, Cole's power isn't more versatile. Not even close. At ranged yes, but everywhere else, hell no. Cole's main specializes in loud ranged combat and sometimes sneaking out of enemy sight. Mercers power is still great in ranged combat, his shapeshifting abilities allow him to sneak around even in plain sight, and his assimilation abilities allow him to better his own skills and intellect as well as strength and speed. It even allows him to detect sleeper personnel and other targets he's after, which is how he knows exactly who the web of intrigue targets are and what they look like.
This is definitely top 5 I’d say number 1 goes to dovahkin vs chosen undead given the reasons both of them fought was to complete their quest and save the day for everyone they’re sworn to protect.

@@thelonecourier3439 I'm still absolutely sure that the end of Prototype 2 was a play of Alex. Just thinking about it, we never learned why Alex would restart the virus after Prototype 1 was all about containing it. As a character he never was power hungry or downright evil (at least in the game narrative). But then he starts the 2nd spreading, places his pawns, infects the main character for no apparent reason, and abducts his family to have a big standoff on a tower. Can anyone really say here that this didn't feel orchestrated? I wouldn't wonder when Alex just a few seconds after getting killed was growing back in some cocoon some miles away somehow having accomplished his goal, whatever it was. There's just so much left open!
I was rooting for Cole, but didn't think he would win. I'm happy to be wrong. For anyone wondering, I figured it was a question of if Cole could survive Alex's absorption, followed my power and durability questions.

@@greytakerrev7147bro he infected Whitelight which is an even stronger version of Bloodtox with a drop of his blood 💀 they mentioned Alex’s adaption but never even used it cause Alex would’ve adapted to the electricity almost half way through the fight
Additionally, Alex is theoretically as strong, if not, stronger than James Heller, who consumed Goliaths, and has the ability to use Pack Hunter (I think that's the ability name) to literally control monsters. It's also stated in the video yet not once did Alex consumed a human to regain his strength, unlike Cole who had a whole tesla behind him to regain energy. Sure, Alex may have bioenergy resonating within him but he's an alpha hunter known to adapt to his environment, just as a virus builds resistance to medicine.
@@remarkabletrainer4729 exactly bro, adaptation should’ve kicked in right after Cole hit him with his melee weapon and froze him which would’ve made Alex pretty much resistant, as if going against Cross with a stun baton already didn’t give him at least a bare minimum of Shock and Electricity resistance plus in the final fight with Alex we even see him call upon mutated crows to try and surround Heller, so he could’ve called upon every infected in Manhattan to try and kill Cole which would include Goliaths which are FARRRRRR bigger than anything Elizabeth Greene summoned in Prototype 1, even towering over the form that she used in her fight AND the Supreme Hunter, so that just goes to show how much biomass Alex had stored and he was STILL able to fight and absorb even more people
I personally thought it would come down to Cole being able to strike with the force of a low-yield nuke by the end of Infamous 2, whereas Alex survived a nuke at the end of Prototype 1, giving Alex the win. Like you, though- happy to be wrong about the result.

The Beast was torn apart by a Ray Sphere, so Cole's survival accounts for his own ability. 16:58 Cole's Bio-Leech drains neuro-electricity from living things, which is partly responsible for healing the human body from wounds. It is likely it could negate Alex's regeneration. 17:35 Sasha's organic tar controls minds and physically alters its victims. This is curiously similar to the Blacklight Virus. Cole not only resisted the tar, but healed people affected by it.
Alex is an amalgamation of virus, and according to house signs defines life. This would mean Alex is not even alive, because virus isn't alive, and at this point the molecules of Alex are either obliterated by the nuke or inside of the amalgamation of virus that is the form we see fight Cole. So if he can only get the bioelectricity from living things, technically Alex Mercer should be off the table. Also there was a Speed-Feed for dodging the supersonic tank rounds, but they didn't really give such a feat to Cole. Which means technically it's only limited to what the brain of the human player can't receive, which is a lot less than what Alex Mercer was doing. Which means one of them is Super Sonic, and the other is a human level reaction time. So in theory Alex Mercer could run circles around Cole faster than he could even perceive. I'm adding that first part to your post analysis side notes, and that second thing about the speed is something that I'm can adjust the rolling out into the world. Also because the force of an impact is determined by the mass and the speed, Alex Mercer is really dense, and far faster, therefore his blunt-force attacks by default are way more powerful.
1 Kessler wasn't referring to the blast itself, he was referring to the fact it could malfunction like it did to John. Cole didn't tank that type of explosion. 2. Alex is a virus, viruses don't have metabolic processes and therefore don't produce any energy, so Cole's bioleech wouldn't do jackshit to mercer. 3. Sashas tar was nothing like a virus and Cole could NOT heal ppl from it. Ppl he heal would thank him by immediately trying to claw his face off. There words don't mean jackshit. The black boxes are literally a way for them to get out of truly explaining their cruddy stupid logic, which they know would immediately crumble.
10 years in the making, and somehow the wait was worth it. If you weren’t in one on these series’ fandoms, you cannot comprehend how badly we all wanted this fight. And I gotta say, I am very happy with the outcome (and winner).
Microsoft could revive it since they bought activision, could even throw crackdown in the world with it or in a remake if they wanted to. If Xbox brought it back it could make Sony bring back Infamous which is a win-win situation for fans
@@wackywinston1777it kinda sucks to say but if these games were to come back it would probably be remakes but i really really want remasters for these games but companies choose remakes over remasters nowadays
@@char1363damn I would still play the hell out of an Infamous remake. Especially if they got the same tone as the original. It completely nailed that 2000’s comic book feel
I like how the outcome made sense scientifically as well. In a battle between someone who can control electricity and someone who could control biomass, the one who can control electricity will always win. Even excluding the nervous system, organic matter is mainly reliant on bioelectricity to determine shape. How would a baby in the womb know to have 4 limbs and a head in that specific fashion? Biological matter, including viruses like the Blacklight, use bioelectric signaling all the time to determine their shape and structure. Cole’s ability to both manipulate and straight-up steal that electricity from Alex almost completely negates his physical form entirely, making this matchup doomed from the start.
When you put it like that it makes way more sense, and while I’m sad that another character from my childhood died I can understand the reasoning by his victory
@@ziephel-6780 that's an office building. full of machines and electrical sockets. cole has more attrition there fhan outside. besides, the dark doesnt matter to cole, his electricity already generates its own light, not to mention that he has radar sense to detect objects and creatures. it was actually smarter to place him out of that spot, and besides, the entire place would be destroyed anyways
Even if we assume that Cole’s force field doesn’t literally convert matter into energy, since that has never been proven to actually be possible, at the very least it can be reasonably assumed that it disassembles matter to the atomic level since the Ray Field and the Beast can do the same thing. This would involve breaking both intermolecular and intramolecular chemical bonds, allowing Cole to absorb the chemical energy released as a result of the bond breakage and become even stronger. Meanwhile, since Alex can only regenerate from molecular DNA, he would be completely unable to regenerate from the disassembled atoms. I find it funny that one of Cole’s defensive abilities alone could instantly nullify Alex’s healing factor and kill him.

@@exploertm8738 a hero who gets reality checked but sticks to his guns is the best type of hero for sure. "yeah I know the world sucks, but that's why I'm here" type of deal.
Cole is the definition of an electric charged super being that saved the world. He did Alex’s goal before Alex even got close. He’s a hero and the savior of New Marias for a reason. Alex is awesome but Cole has his priorities right.
One thing I really appreciate about most fights is how close it seems - Each character gets to show off and shine, making you realize what each person's advantages are as the fight goes on, and making you wonder how the other is going to get out of it, or at least try to, and even when it does simply come down to who can hit the hardest, run the fastest, take the most tons of TNT to the face or whatever, it still feels like a fairly even fight where they really have to push the limits of what they can do
Right, they never discount any character's raw skills or abilities even if the odds are impossible. It's a lot more entertaining than simply saying "He stands no chance." It's the same logic that makes a lot of Superhero movies work, making the fight evenly fought just shows that they are real fans of both characters regardless of who ends up on top.
I loved this fight. This feels like a fight that makes a ton of sense. Both characters are represented as insanely powerful and next to impossible to kill, but Alex chose to his power consume him and was killed by someone with the same power as him. While Cole chose to use his power to protect others and made the choice to sacrifice himself to save everyone. I'm really glad they chose to wait until they got an extremely good engine to run this animation. God bless the fans, and God bless the crew at Rooster Teeth.
I was disappointed when they weren’t going to use Evil Cole but when they said determined Alex wouldn’t even be able to compete with Evil Cole I was like “alright that’s cool but I still wanna see it” 🤣
Alex tries to consume a person. Cole grabs person with lightning Hook. Then Bio leech the person. Alex: Yeah that was my snack. Cole: You snooze you lose. Alex: You going get it now buddy. Alex rushed towards Cole. Cole snaps his fingers. Alex is vaporized. Cole: I'm still hungry Near by citizens: OH thank god. You saved us from the evil Alex Mercer. Now we can finally live in peace. Cole: 😈
To be fair tho, one of the notes on the upper right did say they were going for Good Cole, but with considerations on abilities connected to Evil Cole. Personally tho, I do like the good vs evil angle for the episode since it actually played out like a final battle between hero and villain.

I haven't played infamous but the moment they said that guy can perfectly transform matter into energy it was over. Alex is impressive, cole is impossible.
Like deadass Cole could just absorb the biomass that Alex sends at him (tendrils, sword arm, Hammerfist, etc) and endlessly "No U" all of it right back to Alex. Just imagine Alex trying to skewer Cole with a blade arm only for Cole's forcefield to gobble it up and force Alex to regenerate an arm just from that failed attack. Let alone Cole's higher power output and electric hax that can hurt people resistant to electricity.
Though it does feel like there's some gameplay/story separation, where eating a full clip of bullets or taking a shovel to the head kills Cole no problem, or not blocking a few RPGs for Alex (never mind when he then ignores a nuke in the cutscene).
@@OrigamiShinigami definitely there's gameplay and story separation. cole can react to his own power (lightning speeds) but his gameplay is that of a slightly faster than peak human. not to mention that his durability weirds out from car crash to nuke

Yes sir. I grew up with infamous and played prototype a bit as well, and after 14 years of waiting, this is now my favorite db episode ever, never changing my mind.
Alex's codename is Zeus, although this name is more suitable for Cole. If I were choosing a similar name for Alex, I would say he is Hades. When he takes someone's life, he copies all the skills, abilities and memories of that person, he becomes the master of other people's "souls". Cole is the god of lightning, he is Zeus, Alex is the god of the dead - Hades.
I think "Zeus" actually makes sense when you talk about Alex's CHARACTER, not his abilities. In Greek mythology, the gods like Zeus were highly respected and feared for their reign of the world, just like how Alex is dreaded for his capacity to dunk on Gentek's controlling regime. But once you examine Zeus, he's actually a rotten cheating husband who constantly gets into affairs behind his wife's back and he ruthlessly destroys minor threats to his reign, just like how Alex uses shady tactics to get his way. Even reaching the point where Alex decides to conquer humanity HIMSELF, becoming a truly inhuman monster desperate to secure his hold on the world. Both Zeus and Alex laud themselves for being mighty guardians who have humanity's best interests at heart, when in reality they are both paranoid about losing their place on the food chain, and they have no problems lying and controlling other people to get what they want. Meanwhile, Cole and Hades ironically share a lot in common as characters. Both were originally derided and scorned for supposedly causing disasters - Cole as the one who opened the city-destroying package, and Hades as the inevitable judge of doomed souls. But both Cole and Hades are proven to be much more benevolent than that: Cole fights to protect order and resist his Evil side, while Hades responsibly looks after his underground kingdom and is always professional about protecting the natural order and life-and-death. Both of them manage to rise above the tragic circumstances of their rise (the Ray Sphere's blast and Kronos' oppressive tyranny) to become highly respected guardians in their communities. Both Hades and Cole were feared as bringers of doom for their associations with death, when in reality they are responsible protectors who go out of their way to protect their worlds (despite the flak they get) and become reliable allies to the ones who stand by them. You are right about their abilities being rightfully matched, though. Alex has a lot more connotations with demonic imagery and dark-god-type themes than people seem to realize, even after these years.
I wish they showed off how smart Alex would be from absorbing thousands of people. Yet his best tactics was a straight on fistfight. Might as well decide the next batman vs Thor death battle with a pure fist fight...
@mcmarkmarkson7115 they showed him off great. They had him absorbing people throughout the episode and he wouldn't have had a moment to absorb thousands with Cole on him. Alex as well was very dominant in this fight so I dont know what you want more of besides an Alex Mercer W
It does often go forgotten how fast and agile Cole is. Sure, his gameplay style and movement system is more restrictive, but he's still VERY superhuman.
@@mcmarkmarkson7115 To be fair he was portrayed in basically the exact same way as the final boss in Prototype 2. He didn't portray any kind of intelligence or combat expertise. It was just a straight boxing match.
@@kin4386 yea the games did not show his intelligence very much, besides the transforming into other people to get access. There was no point for it when he was unbeatable. Unlike how cole had to struggle against much weaker enemies while Alex was destroying entire armies without an issue :D
I like this battle. I also like how united the community is on this one. Initially, I thought that Alex would win, simply because he is a literal nightmare of a bioweapon that had to be killed by a better version of the virus than himself to be taken out in the end. But in the end, seeing just how many powers Cole actually had, and exactly what he could do with them.... yeah, i can see why the battle concluded like this. I don't think I mind this ending. thank you for finally making it.
Alex should have won though, DB made facts up and based things on pure theories such as Coles shield turning bullets into energy when the strategy guide states it's only converting the kinetic energy of the round into energy and not the round itself.
@@spinozilla2421 @spinozilla2421 no he doesn't, even by their own logic he doesn't lose. They claimed Cole was resistant to blacklight, but they never once said that he was immune. Immune means it won't effect him at all, whereas resistant means he's less effected by it but will still eventually succumb to it. By their own logic, the virus should still end up eventually killing or turning Cole. And no, Cole cannot vaporize anything. That was an entirely new myth made by DB. They claimed that cole disintegrated the beast at the atomic lvl when he used the RFI, which takes rayfield radiation away(aka what the beast was made of). Even if he could disintegrate, that's not a killing blow like you think it is. Alex is the blacklight virus itself. So long as the virus exists, he will always exist. He spread himself across New York as well as everywhere he's ever been. Which is why he states at the end of the 2nd game that he has moved beyond life and death. He's effectively unkillable.

The ending of the first and second game are contradictory which has led to theories that James didn't actually kill "Alex Mercer" . Not only that the lore insinuates the only real match for him would be Pariah, the child of Elizabeth Green and a naturally occurring Black Light Virus

Honestly I was expecting Mercer to win based on Regeneration alone, I didn't even consider the neuro-electricity draining aspect. Great episode!
Mercer stomps, Alex is faster stronger had better regen etc

I remember for the particularly brutal missions in the Infamous games, I would always shoot a telephone pole and reabsorb the electricity at a bonus.
Honestly im just mad they didn't give mercer the bio bomb, tendrils that heller has and summoning monster atleast they gave him that cool armor skin from prototype 2 though

In retrospect, maybe it’s not so bad it took them this long to make this episode, they had the time to develop and improve animations a ton.
Better late than never.
But that just takes all the fun out of the battle doesn't it
Eddit: Cole didn't get a Speed-Feat, but that was for routing electricity hisun and routing electricity is not the same as moving from point A to point B in reaction to a weapon firing at you.
@@Kjf365 Nowadays, the question fans ask isn't "Should this character have won?" and more "How faithfully would they portray the characters?"

Now I’m imagining an alternate plot line of infamous 2 where instead of the beast tearing through the United States it’s alex Mercer instead

Activated conduits are immune to diseases, which is why the plaque never affected Cole, so the blacklight virus would most likely have no effect on him.
Also true. This fight was bound to end badly for Mercer

For anyone wondering, I figured it was a question of if Cole could survive Alex's absorption, followed my power and durability questions.
Still they left out the part where Cole is weak to water, and how Alex grew immunity to blood tox a biochemical agent used to wipe out the black light virus.

Post analysis side notes:
16:42 While the Ray Sphere creates conduits, Kessler was unsure if Cole would survive its explosion, as stated in the mission "The Truth”.

Just makes me mad that we were supposed to get this 10 YEARS AGO!
Cole’s ability to both manipulate and straight-up steal that electricity from Alex almost completely negates his physical form entirely, making this matchup doomed from the start.
that and cole can turn mass into energy via his shield so id be a losing fight
Fax
When you put it like that it makes way more sense, and while I’m sad that another character from my childhood died I can understand the reasoning by his victory
14:42 Mercer shouldn't have thrown Cole out of the building, he had the environmental advantage in a darker and less open field.
Expect it couldn't, since he no longer has that ability, needing to replace it with an ice version that doesn't convert anything into energy at all.

Even the stomps are framed not to make one character look like a chump; the exception being Aquaman because that was the joke
It wasn't fairly even, they literally highballed Cole and lowballed mercer
