Here in California if you want to ride a SurRon completely legally, get the electronic power pedal kit from kaniwaba, keep it under 29mph, and wear any DOT approved helmet. Now you are officially a Class 3 e-bike! You now have the law on your side and can ride freely without worry, HOWEVER pay close attention to signs on trails, paths, and parks because sometimes rules can be specific to that area you’re passing through. Be VERY courteous to pedestrians slowing down to their speed, be respectful, know your rights, and be willing to leave if approached by a ranger or officer governing the area under different rules for that trail, etc. hope this info helps!
Disclaimer: I don't live in California right now. I have never heard of the helmet law. As for classes, the surron qualifies for a class3 out of the factory. The legality of operating it above that limit is however you wanna take it. All I can say to avoid getting in trouble on a surron or any technically class4 ebike ride in the bike lane, or get it registered as a scooter (get a license plate) there is a chart online that shows every state and what laws they use so obviously, research your local laws cause not every state even has the class 1234 system.
Technically all cars and trucks are illegal because they can drive faster than the federal state and local speed limits if we use the same logic used on ebikes. I hate that ebikes are restricted for us. They should let us restrict ourselves and if we break the law then cops can write a citation....just like cars.

Another observation I’ve made is the extra mass of some eBikes could be a hazard to other pedestrians, especially I’ve noticed in my area people who rent eBikes with zero/very little experience and recklessly speed in very dense areas, they’re the ones ruining it all
@@TailHappyTV good point. That being said i think all ebikes should have 20mph limit but also all should have a code to unlock max speed by the user/owner. If someone gets hurt at least it shows they willfully unlocked the 20mph safety feature.
I love the look and style of the mini-bike or "cafe racer" style. But big problem is the seats have no height adjustment. So you're gonna ride with your legs folded up unless youre really short.
My stealth bomber clone = 102 pounds….I did gain 3 pounds from changing to heavy duty tires, and a rear mud flap. The first bike has been tuned down…It protects the vendor! My bike has insane acceleration, and reaches 60MPH…it’s only a 3000w kit with a 72v 80A BMP battery, and a 72v 80A speed controller…I reduced the weight of the 50 pound frame down by 10 pounds…forks and handlebars are feather weight, and it had a much lighter 3000w motor.
if you living in Europe, Netherlands for example, than Onyx and Surron are no go at least you go offroad or register them as motorbikes with plates and helmets, insurances etc.. They looks to much like motorbikes and every cop will stop you on bike lanes , we have here 250w and 25km/h restriction and is pointless to have serious strong bike for that. Another story is with Super73, it looks like many more legal bikes riding on bike lanes and police already not interested with checking , also they are been sell set to EU legal norm so they a safe here to use out from shop. What nobody around knows Super73 rx has 2000w motor and you can drive it with 50km/h double is legall with just tapping in app and in 1 second make it legal again turning off and on. So for some people somewhere in this planet Super73 kills competition.
So I have been commuting with my Lectric XP ver. 1 and it has been doing ok, but I feel like I would like to go faster, I am doing 28 top speed. I have seen a moped style bike called the Spark Bandit, have you had a chance to check that one out?
I got a dual drive ebike that I modified for less then 2500 dollars and have 40 mph speed and 100 mile range--plus it looks like a bike and police do not even look twice.I have dual motors and dual batteries.Overpriced--underpowered and it attracts attention cause it looks like a motorcycle.When my hub motors wear out I plan on putting 2 1500 watt hub motors and should have a 50 plus mph bike for about 800 dollars.
@@davidhaywood9247 I bought a CSC 750 XP and added a front hub motor to it and a battery--also when you get these bikes they are only about 75% built anyway and you have to put together the rest of them--you did not even bother to click and see what i did--go ahead and shell out 4 to 5k for one of these when you could spend half that and put together something better with a couple of allen wrenches.
BTW I did not expect to be putting mine together until it came and luckily on you tube you can go and find tutorials on how to do it easily--how about own any ebike first then comment becaue none of them come to your house put together completely--also get some content or never post a comment again.

@@EinarOfBC I think the SurRon only needs pedals in some jurisdictions. It’s an electric moped in Idaho and needs no pedals here. It’s legality seems to be based mostly on the riding style and attitude of the rider. My law enforcement interactions have, so far, been limited to “how fast does it go, how much did it cost, where can I get one?
FYI - The Onyx RCR by default takes 5 seconds to give you the full power of the motor. You can get an app on your phone that can connect to the motor controller and modify the stock settings and drastically change the acceleration and power output. The setting for time to full power can go down to 1 second! It is already fairly quick with stock settings, but if you modify to the max you might send it flying out from under you, so be careful lol

I’m thinking of getting the Onyx RCR to commute to work (7mi both ways) because it’s pretty close and the roads are pretty much a straight shot 40-45/mph with minimal-medium traffic. I’m in Western NY state so pedals are a must. *Question: I’m 6’3 200/lbs and I’m wondering if you think this would be comfortable, also and how tall are you?*

You all know that with any one of these bikes I should say batteries you can hook them up in parallel doubling your range as long as it's 48 to 48 or 72 to 72 or even 36 36 you get Big Time range and speed and if even if it's a 1000 watt motor 2000 watt motor 3000 watt motor you can up the power in other words you can overvolt that motor it will not hurt it same with the people that have a 36 volt 500 watt you can put a 48 volt battery to that it won't f****** the up the Hub trust me I've tried all kinds of fun combos
Frustrated with the wait time for the Onyx (Indiegogo) I ordered a SurRon. They both arrived on the same day. I alternated between them @ first but after a couple of weeks I tended to pick the SurRon. The suspension is much better for my weight and the SurRon just looks like a finished product and the Onyx looks like an after work garage project. A really good one but not up to the SurRon’s finish. Also I don’t care for the alarm sounding when you start it. The battery cover didn’t fit correctly, I just left it off! I sold it within 6 months. In retrospect, I wish I had kept it since the price has increased so much. SurRons Rock!
$7k for a Sur Ron is a deal breaker. That's full on street legal motorcycle money. Much above $4k and you're really challenging the practical benefit of an e-bike IMO.

Oklahoma 'Legal' is 1000W - 20mph, with "no capability to exceed 20mph"... Registration as Electric Motorcycle with insurance and license tag, and full motorcycle equipment* is only option. *ie: full time headlight, brakelight, tag light, turn signals, rear view mirrors, helmet under 18, eye protection, etc...
I usually try and find bike reviewers who are taller, with me being 6'3" , I'm able to get a better idea how I would look on these 73 style bikes. If you can make it work, gives me hope for myself 😆

That’s a really great question, I mean you can buy a brand new Lamborghini and drive it on the road even though it has enough horsepower to easily break the speed limit laws. Electric bicycles are treated differently. For some reason, you can only have so much power and they can only be able to achieve top speed of 28 legally. I don’t see why it should be illegal to have a Ebike that has a certain amount of power, perhaps it should just be illegal to go certain speeds in certain areas
That was a BS show all those bikes were legal except for his because it didn't have petals I have a 5000 W Enduro with pedals it's legal it goes about as fast as that Dell fast with a more comfortable seat and a 45 amp hour battery I get about the same mileage he does cuz it doesn't really do 200 miles that is just thought I'd mention that, because do it yourself seems to be a little cheaper and the least you know how the bike is put together
I guess my Sur Ron is modified, but it feels quicker from 0-20. I’ll try and catch an onyx on the street and do a side by side acceleration. Side note, I was riding the Core 5 with my buddy on his super73 today and the Core 5 was definitely faster.
The delfast is way overpriced , the super73 is garbage it has no speed and no power and the onyx is just like a moving box with horrible body … for 3700$$ u can get a stealth bomber 15000w 72v 49ah with sabvoton controller 200A a fucking beast of a bike … I got 2 of them

I love my delfast 3.0. The range is pretty good. I got 90 miles on a single charge. Is the same cost I'd someone was upgrading a super73 man.

The delfast is way overpriced , the super73 is garbage it has no speed and no power and the onyx is just like a moving box with horrible body … for 3700$$ u can get a stealth bomber 15000w 72v 49ah with sabvoton controller 200A a fucking beast of a bike … I got 2 of them

Everyone with an ebike knows a sur Ron/Onyx is NOT an ebike, even if it has pedals on it. And once ebike laws change, these will be the first ones affected 💯.
