    I've been developing film since the 1970s and never seen that kind of wave. On reading the comments it's sounds like you put both films on the same reel. If that's the case then the developer did not wash over where the line is now so uneven development. One film use one reel. I have tanks that can take 6 reels so you can develop 6 films at once. I just picked up a canon 7sz in lovely condition. Spent the last two days removing the battery cap as the old mercury battery was left in by last owner. Finally with heating it with a soldering iron and white vinegar it came loose. Now it's a big clean up but not as bad as I imagined. They are lovely cameras. Not as well made but easy to open up and work on repairs. They say the Nikon SP series was much better made but you need to get a mortgage to buy one. Thanks for a great video

    Okay, having rejected the explanations of others as to causation of that wavy line running along the length of the second roll of film, I now owe my own explanation. The imaging shown was too quick and not that clear to me, but I'm going to assume the following conditions: (1) While the line wanders some across the width of the film, the thickness of the line itself is very consistent; (2) the line extends across the blank space between frames; (3) lens was not capped when you rewound the film into its cartridge after shooting. This is not a development issue. The "line" is a light strike with a very constant density, which you do not get with a developing error, nor is it a film tank loading issue, because it is far too consistent. So, my conclusion. The shutter failed to close properly, i.e., failed to "cap" completely, after the last frame on the roll. This left a small gap open in the shutter curtains, allowing light coming thought the lens to strike the film. As you rewound the film, it was passed by this small opening, exposing that "stripe" all along the length of the roll. Because the stripe is a moderate exposure, not a full "white" light strike, the gap left open was probably very minimal. The line wanders a bit across the film width because you move or shake the camera as you rewind. Assuming I am correct, this is not happening on the first roll, nor on the later rolls, so it is probably caused by some sticking in the shutter mechanism which is not constant. A simple CLA (clean, lube, adjust) should solve the problem. This is always a good idea when you buy an older camera on which you will rely. That is the good news. The bad news is that most camera repair shops will not touch a Canon P, 7 or 7S with a shutter problem, because they are a bitch to work on, no parts have been available for more than 40 years, and , frankly, the repairmen do not know zip about the uncommonly complex shutter mechanism in these models. For a simply sticking problem subject only to a cleaning, you can probably sweet talk someone into giving it a try. As a collector of Canon RF equipment, on the rare occasions where I shoot Canon RF, I pass my 7 and 7Sz, and choose a VIT body, which is as easy to service as an old Leica. Good luck with it. it is a very nice camera to use.(Note: If a repairman tells you the fast speeds above 1/125 are running too slow to adjust to spec, forget it. It's a common problem, and you can either adjust exposure settings to compensate or not use them. It is common problem on these models and not really repairable.)

      I agree . More that likely a shutter that was stuck open just a bit while rewinding ..... I can almost bet that if this new owner would turn on the TV , sit in a chair and just fire the shutter a couple hundred times to limber it up , that it would clear up the problem ....

  • @michaeldaniels8446
    @michaeldaniels8446 ปีที่แล้ว

    the "wave" on the film.
    I had this happen to me on a roll i was very excited about. What I can guess is that, like me, maybe you tried to sneak a 25th or 37th shot in and the shutter half cocked and didn't completely cycle the shutter. So you just rewound the film, exposing every frame to the sliver of light bleeding through the shutter.
    This is just a guess I could be wrong but I will never try to squeeze an extra shot when shooting the canon 7

    I think that weird wave thing may have been a result from the film touching each other in the reel so that portion didn't get exposed to the chems properly. That's my theory anyway. I also much prefer them busy streets for photo. Can you buy the canon dream lens 50mm 0.95. Ok cool thanks.

    I think you may have the stripe as your film was not seperated properly on the drum and got stuck together when you were developing it.

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given the uniformity of the "line" along the length of the film, this uis extremely unlikely. Film to film contact on a spiral reel usually is more "splotchy" than linear like this. See my separate guess as to the problem.

    Interesting about the film trouble. I can't help! I would imagine it's something that's in the development and not a weirdness with the shutter of the camera. However as regards development of film [b+w] I use Stand Development which is very economical of developer. I use Rodinal in about a 1-2% solution and keep the bottle in the fridge. There is lots of info on it on the Web. I leave the film in the tank for 2 hours and just turn the drum over gently a couple of times after about an hour. It just Stands quietly and magically develops itself while I read or make coffee. I use Canon rangefinders, but the generation before the 7 and P, so from the mid to late Fifties. Lovely cameras and I read Canon sold nearly 500,000 all told, so they must have been doing something right!
