Today we are comparing two rangefinder film cameras one of which is $100 and the other a whopping $2000 to see which one performs better! On cheaper end of the spectrum we have a camera that is regarded by many as the poor man's Leica, the Canon QL17 GIII. And on the other hand we have my trusty Leica M2. Let me know which one you guys preferred in the comments below!

Man, as someone who just recently got a QL17 I'm

Really this is just a comparison of the lenses. Camera bodies really only differ in ergonomics and features but don’t really have any impact on colour, contrast and sharpness except for the fact that certain bodies give you access to certain lenses.

In terms of peace of mind, I would rather have the canon than an expensive Leica. I can't trust myself with that much money around my neck, nor could I feel safe walking around with it.

Just picked up the QL17 last week for $5!! It was in working almost mint condition. This video really made my day seeing what it can do

Nothing can challenge Soviet cameras anyway, change my mind.

Because cost is a significant buying factor, the Canon QL17 is the better camera. If both cameras were at the same price point, Leica would be the camera to own.

As someone who has had four Leicas - and not a single Canon - over the 60+ years that I’ve been shooting photos, I have to give the Canon the prize for this one! Honestly, I could not see a significant difference between the two, and the price difference pushes the win to the Canon corner! Thanks for the “reality check” !!! 😁

In a nutshell: Leica is just a name

Leica did just slightly better with wider field of view. But with that price Canon can do the same as Leica overall. Almost no difference tbh. Unless you're super nitpicky. Canonet for me

Here is the thing. I have the ql17 which has been professionally CLAed. It works perfectly, and makes great photographs. Period. I travel and like to walk around and the camera could be a target for thieves. If I lost it, well I would be heart broken because I’ve had the camera for almost 20 years - but if I lost a $2k Leica, it would be a full blown heart attack. Getting the picture means getting out there. I would go no matter what the camera costs, but that being said it is a bit more relaxed with a camera I can replace for a few hundred, CLA included.

I love how successful you've become bud. Videos have a real infectious vibe. Problem is I always want to buy new (old) cameras when I watch. Keep up the amazing content bud!

I love the 40mm QL17 lens and ergonomics. For what it is, it's not bad. Super quiet leaf shutter, smooth aperture and shutter speed rings. f1.7 max aperture. Quality build as well. Nice heft to it.
