At the moment, I think this is one of the most complete "enthusiast" cars on the market. Fast enough without being bonkers, clever enough without being complex, and comfy enough on the road while being usable around a track. Those with pockets deep enough, could definitely create a one car garage with something like this.
TBH the 911 has always been a very complete car in almost any version!

With this system you don’t need a wastegate, as the ‘overspeed’ of the turbo energy is harvested back to the battery for deployment in the gearbox e-motor. The e-motor is the starter, generator (alternator) and could be the reverse gear (as per McLaren W1)

So hang on, is the consequence of the Lambda 1 thing that the turbo has to be much larger running lower boost to keep cat temps down and the EAT is the workaround for the resultant lag? If so then the aftermarket should be able to pull a lot of power out of these.

I will stick with my manual 997.2...and live with the tire noise! I love everything about it.

      Absolutely. I had a PDK 997.2 C4S Cabrio … which would now be considered an ultra-light! : )
At the time I sold it, vowing to order a coupe with the third pedal. I had the RS 3.8 at the time, a noisy, uncomfortable car on the road, too fast for speed limits, it was my track car and a great competitor, but unpleasant on the road. I drove a GTS and didn't like the suspension and it didn't have the engine feel or sound or history of the Mezger, then time slipped by and suddenly "no more orders, I can get this one, it has yellow belts" … and I just sort of let it all slip through my fingers. I sold the RS for a huge number, which today would be considered a charitable gift price. I tried the news GT3s twice. Nope. Not for me. I tried to get the S/T … no allocation for me, I don't have a 918 or any reason to be "allowed" to buy the S/T. Disgusting f'ing Ferrari nonsense. So I doubt Porsche will ever build another 911 for me (though I've bought 10 of 'em up to the 991.2 and just couldn't get enthused with the 992.) This all motivates me to look a the 997 again. Prices have certainly eased off after the insane "gotta have it" nonsense of the last few years.

How good or bad will the upcoming Cayman/Boxster be as a pure EV only? This GTS is done very well but pure EV will ruin them IMO.

Personally i think this is the way forward, we depend on petrol industry and we should not blame the internal combustion engine for the most significant advancement in technology we have achieved today.
Smaller turbocharged engines coupled to small medium battery will decrease the necessity for a full blown electric car.
    Way to go Chris!
