i 100% agree. i'm sick to death of generic medieval high-fantasy; especially because it just reinforces how many aesthetic and cultural touchpoints there are in history to reference in fantasy, but people just want to rehash chainmail and princesses the same way for the 9999th time. FF is at its best when they flex their uniqueness in setting, art style, and direction, and it's been sad to watch it follow the lifeless trajectory of the games industry as a whole, going from gorgeous, sprawling, unique worlds like 7, 8, and 9, to a boring, generic fantasy narrative with boring, generic world, and boring, generic AAA graphics.
@@999a0s Final Fantasy 14 has done wonders of bringing back that FF vibe that seemed lost after the PS1 era. I started playing it just because of all the references to the other mainline games and to share with friends that were already playing, but then found myself completely absorbed by the game world and plot, it has arguably the best setting and plot development so far in the series (everything ends up being VERY coherent and cohesive, all the character motivations, their development, their actions and consequences thereof, are extremely well written, big moments truly feel emotional and give you a sense that your character and NPC friends - your party, essentially, from a story perspective - are having increasingly meaningful impact on the world, plus there's so many well-thought plot twists its absurd), on par with masterpieces like the PS1 games (for some in the community. For me, it's even better!). There's even a version of Ivalice in-game (as a region of a larger world), which is surprisingly respectful of the lore that is taken from FF Tactics and FF12.
The setting is also so different, like, remove the plot point surrounding Lucavis, and all you get is a succession war for power between two political forces, and a clergy that manipulated them. It is very grounded in reality, in comparison to other entries in the series. The "closest" plots we got to reality in the main games were environmental activism with 7 and mercenaries in 8. And we all know it's not what the games plots were about in the end. The point being : if you're going for a very different kind of story, you have to have a very reflective musical style for it. Hence a new composer
@@Anaklusmos42That being said, and i precise that i very much agree with all your previous point, im pretty sure Nobuo have the necessary talent to put up to the task. One of the greatest settings in any videogame, Matsuno's worldbuilding and storytelling, Akihiko Yoshida's art, and of course, Sakimoto's music. Everything comes together so well to create this incredible world, wish Square could go back to Ivalice
I was looking back not long ago and realised that all of the Ivalice Alliance games came out around 2006-9 and we've never been back since. War of the Lions was also in that period, it's astonishing how well that era of games have aged in the general discourse of Square Enix as well!
Ivalice is mysterious, warm, and inviting. Exploring it feels magical. It has an atmosphere of an ancient land, far away from home yet somehow familiar.
The esper battle song is a banger, it’s not included here but check it out, it’s not a fast song but it’s relentless and captures the spectacle perfectly
Ivalice is my favorite setting by far. The art direction along with the music makes me feel at home and at peace, such a comfortable, nostalgic place. The subtle technology use and society structure of the world are awesome too.
I know it is fueled entirely by nostalgia, but whenever the whimsical winds come in with the accompanying twinkles it gives me such a great feeling. It sounds so good together and it is prevalent throughout a LARGE chunk of Ivalice music. Like most of the earlier areas in FFXII have this sound and its sooo good. The orchestral nature of it coupled with the fantastical renaissance style visuals is so perfect imo. What a great universe they created and refuse to expand on.
My heart beats in Ivalice as the wind rustles across the Mandalia Plains, and my tears fall as rain in the Lenalian Plateau for a woman who stood up against injustice until her final breath.
You want to know why ivalice is the best world of any final fantasy? Because the music express exactly the vibe of the world. Even there are great Nobuo Uematsu Final fantasy tracks (like FF 7 aerith or tifa´s song, bombing mission, prelude or the main theme), the overall music of this games are more coherent from start to finish
Vagrant Story will always be a masterpiece to me, loved every moment. Man I miss being a kid playing these old games 😢 still playing FF12 at the moment, haven't completed it yet. Very similar to Vagrant Story
Blindsight by Peter Watts, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Golden era Square and whole PSX era, and ost to FFT and Vagrant :) My gray 32Mhz supernova! Thank you world for those 5 years of Playstation 1 delivering thousands of titles to our brains.
Vagrant Story as I remember was a pretty difficult game, I'm currently doing a playthrough of FFT currently and hopefully I'll keep the momentum into Vagrant Story. Just need to wrap up all the tavern errands, finish leveling up a couple unique characters, and want to take a crack at some of the Rendezvous missions for some of the exclusive loot and I'll have wrapped that up.
@@Blakobness The trick with vagrant story is the weapons, you get your weapons right you can breeze through most enemies. Also cheesing the stat gains so you get the maximum also helps lol.
There aren't any concrete ties. But it does have several accessories named after characters from the Zodiac Brave Story. I remember getting a lot of use out of Agrias' Balm.
I squeed with fanboy delight when a monster called "Leamonde Entite" appeared in FFXII. Some of the flavour text in the monster descriptions makes allusions to "Agent Merlose" too, I think.
I honestly think people should crowdfunding a new Vagrant Story. It's my favorite game of all time. This games settings, story, cinamatics, music, graphics, even culture almost everything about it is perfection.
Argath’s Theme is so perfect for the character. It’s this pleasant, wholesome melody, but with this suspicious sneaky background rhythm it’s impossible to ignore.
This is still the most incredible music I've ever heard... The composition of this music with the art is so heartwarming to my soul. Thank you so much for making this.
This playlist takes me back to middle-school/ high-school days, stocked up on Mt Dew and various snax, bunkered in for the gameplay session. Nostalgic and very well mixed!
"I Give You My Word" is a woefully underappreciated track. .....Actually I think it'd be more appropriate to point out that Hitoshi Sakimoto is a woefully underappreciated composer! I mean, yes, he really sticks to his safe-zone (comprised of fast flutes and fast strings, or intense horns) more than he should, but he truly has composed some woefully intense pieces of music, 'Antipyretic' being arguably the most emotionally-charged Boss Theme (so to speak) of the entire FF trademark!
Final Fantasy Tactics is easily in the top 3 video game soundtracks of all time, and some of its memorable pieces could compete amongst classic symphony arrangements as well. It's so memorable, so powerful, and extremely emotion stirring at times. So good! Praise FFT! My favorite game of all time, I'll play it again any day!
Because these games are very old, few people know about them, few people remember about them, especially about Vagrant Story. By the way, does anyone else remember the Light Crusader? There's a great soundtrack too.
This should get more views, but I should give a head up, a warning, SE and TH-cam have been shutting down channels and taking down videos that are using music without permission. Recently many videos and channels got terminated because of it. I hope that it doesn't happen to this, but considering that channels that was created ten years ago got shut down recently, it's only a matter of time. I wasn't happy when I found out that some of my favorite videos was gone.
I'd love to see a true sequel to Vagrant Story as it's easily one of my top 10 video games of all time. But it's highly unlikely given that VS apparently sold very poorly despite the game's generally positive reviews when it was first released. Which is sad as the world of VS is so dang atmospheric and intriguing, with its awesome localization, comic book style cut scenes, and twisting narrative.
It's hilarious how the programmers sneaked that line emphasis in. I found it odd until I learned much later how Japanese programmers are worked like dogs finishing a game with low compensation.
Vagrant Story is such a unique and amazing game! The writing, storytelling, cinematics, atmosphere, depth, and just overall craft of this game is superb! And a technical triumph on the PS1! I really hope Square has the good sense to do a proper remake of this masterpiece! (Some of the more criticized aspects of the game, like how much time you spend in menus and the tediousness of swapping gear a lot need to be reworked, which is why a simple remaster won't cut it these days.)
I love this playlist while I play FFXIV, since it's a timeline where all three settings exist at once in the same period of time. I really hope we get to explore this new version of Ivalice beyond the raid series they did.

Listening to these make me feel the vibe of rpg. Like all i want now is venture with my friends and slain a god-like creature.
What a perfect playlist
hey look here for my 2nd comment. FFT is far from my favorite game but every time I stumble upon its soundtrack I forget how down right amazing it is. Literally makes me feel good .
Thanks a lot for this! Such an awesome compilation of music from Ivalice.
Man these FFXII tracks are amazing

May the Flush be with you.
Tysm for making this! I love fftactics soundtrack! arguably the best ost for square!
The best no nose having people I know
Eruyt Village is one of the saddest pieces of music.
I feel like mystical, ephemeral, and melancholic is the best way to describe it.
Very cool playlist. Thank you for the upload.
I feel like I'm back selecting my job classes.

Didn't play FF12 but wanna cuz' the Trio is in it. Loved their work since Ogre Battle, still lovin' it.
I feel like have a trip while listening the OST.
At last! More relaxing music to listen to while I’m at my dead end job! 🤗✨
