I'm really sorry I couldn't find it within myelf to give you a "like" on this, bro. In my opinion, you stop the video WAY too much. And I find your commentary too... self-promoting? Reaction vids are actually supposed to be just that. Not so much your "critique". I can take a little "commentary" and be able to enjoy the music. But, when you stop the video (consistantly) throughout to talk, then I'm not getting REACTION. I'm getting someone who "feels the need to promote" their own self. I see your fingers moving around on your keyboard (as if YOU can play what's being played and I automatically become distracted by YOU; wanting to see YOU do it. It takes a WHOLE LOT away from the REACTION that I'm looking for and used to seeing.

Totally agree. This guy is a total tool. He just doesn't get it. If we wanted to hear his reaction we'd watch his reaction video not a video of him pausing every so often to offer his comments and insight. I've unsubscribed and gave it a thumbs down. F him and his pausing.

@@MusicShed Have you ever seen a reaction video before? You wait until the end and then you react. That's why it's called a reaction. No one is watching to hear your reaction while you're watching. It's annoying and unprofessional. I DO NOT PLAN TO WATCH ANY FUTURE VIDEOS. You pause during almost every video.

@@MusicShed I said "hear your reaction" and "while you're watching" how is that wrong? And yes, I'm serious. Also, you're really not a great piano player and it's annoying when you play over the music. Maybe focus more on the video and not the piano. Like Nathaniel pointed out, you're too self promoting.

"That solo is historic" absolutely! That solo is going to influence thousands of musicians who come after it. The fact that this is a single take in front of a live audience is also a callback to old jazz recordings since that's how so many of them were recorded too (minus the headphones).

  • @HarryZumwalt
    @HarryZumwalt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

Any hate you're getting is from people who haven't seen you channel or don't understand the perspective you have to provide. Excellent reaction. Would love to see you react to that video of Cory playing at 3 years old! I feel similarly to you; that talent boils down to hard work much more than people think. But that video always make me question those firmly held beliefs, HA!

One thing I realized recently is how the brass players are really listening to eachother when they take their solos. One guy plays lots of different notes, the next plays off the same note a bunch, the guy after that plays a simple rhythm to contrast the complicated one before him, etc.
It's a real conversation, and it's probably the clearest example of that concept I've ever heard as a non-musician.

Best “reaction” video on TH-cam I’ve seen so far for Lingus. When you talked about the feeling of playing in an ensemble that really spoke to me. Obviously I’m nowhere near the level of these people but the feeling of being inside and adding to a thing that’s inside of you and outside of you at the same time is an experience that you just can’t describe, but you came close. Fantastic video. You got a like and a sub from me.

As you said, that magic doesn’t come without the thousands of hours of honing the nitty-gritty of your craft. Cory Henry is a true master of his instrument and as such can just channel what he hears and feels.
Every now and again a musician will channel some otherworldly energy through them and create something insanely special, but that can’t really happen without complete mastery.

Malcolm Gladwell "10,000 hours" new-age "American Dream" bullshit. I've been playing for nearly 45 years and have played with absolute prodigies. Some people come out of the gate running. Face it.

@@rollomaughfling380 Some people come out of the gate more inclined to be good at certain things, yes. @@Kwert "Bitter," "failed" lol. That's cute. On the contrary, Kwert, I'm very grateful for my long career doing what I love for a living. I haven't worked for anybody but myself for decades, and I pick and choose the people I work with, and the projects I work on, as I actually don't _need_ to work unless I want to.
That's called "The Cut" my friend, and there's hardly any bitterness in The Cut that doesn't quickly melt away.
Let me let you in on a little secret, 'Kwert': There have been people who operate like I do without a daily 'practice regime', like say, Todd Rundgren, and feel that over-practice/shedding/'running the changes' leads to clichés.
This solo, and song, is a montage of previously established Jazz tropes, from the '70s on back. Is it a good montage? Yes, it is. In fact it's an extremely well-crafted one. But it's only mimicry at its most obsequious.
And Malcolm Gladwell is still just another 'TED Talk' lookin'-ass wrongheaded hack thinker whose lazy assumptions have been repeatedly discredited by better minds in the media. You take care now.

Cory has a great video of him and chic with whom he had a great relationship before his passing, doing an exercise where one gets up from bench and other slides in so quick if you just listen it sounds like one players music:) until they end up side by side for end. Cory amongst all his prodigious talents at childhood followed through with ambition and developed that gift uniquely as you say you hear his voice his though without restriction restraint as you said on that Keith Jarret, Mccoy, Oscar, Chic level of channeling their emotions. He has plenty of pieces where he gets emotional coming from gospel background lot like Keith for me, or Mccoy with Johns quartet when elvin and jim were on fire too those old recordings are like church for me. Keith solo shows too :) Its never not a joy to hear this so swingin' as you say. So much fun. Larnell is another just gift to music world. Cheers...btw he has a tribute to Melvin Crispell that is full of as much feel as honestly Ray charles like soul and feel unicorn level musicianship you would love it if you have not heard. just Hammond and steady percussion. I disagree with a lot of these comments. If you want to listen to the song, go and find the original video. If you want to watch someone listening to a song all the way through, sit on a bus. Watching someone listen to a song and then 'reacting' isn't a reaction video, it's a review. I like to watch someone's REACTION to each part as it happens, and their thoughts on those parts, as they happen. They can't do this without stopping the video. It comes with the territory.

That adds nothing and is a waste of everybody's time. The original is one of the best musical performances on video that I've ever seen, so I love videos that try to tell the viewer what is going on. @@MusicShed as i said i'm no musician. i referred to the part, where cory plays on two different keyboards. in my logic when he uses his thumb above with his right hand, underneath he uses his pinkie for the same tone.

I know this is kind of out of the blue, but you should definitely react to “Euphoria” By Jungkook live at Wembley Stadium. Jungkook is one of the 7 members of BTS, which I think you should check out in their own right, they all have unbelievable voices. But Jungkook is their main vocalist, and is currently regarded as one of the best male singers in the world. His range and control are beyond phenomenal!
If you do want to react to BTS, I recommend Save Me, Blood Sweat and Tears, Dynamite, and DNA. Love your content ❤️

      It’s a pause channel

Reaction videos that don't stop to add perspective are pretty feckless if we're being honest. Why make the video if you're not going to add anything? At that point you'd be stealing content and just putting your face next to it. I enjoyed the honesty of your take and if people don't want stops, they can just watch the original first. AND you did it in the most logical way - each of your pauses were right before being introduced to a new musical movement, reflecting on the ideas presented in the one that just ended, with only a couple exceptions. People have their preferences, but I, at least, thought it was great. New to the channel as well.

Why watch a reaction video if you want to watch the original video as is. If you dont like the way he does it move on.

Yeah this was a reaction vid, but way too many interruptions if you are introducing this to a first time listener - no continuity. Your vid should have been labeled Master Class.
