This guy has a nice teaching style. Very informative with an easy kind of down home feel that makes it enjoyable to watch. I'm a subscriber and fan. Keep em coming.
Thought I could do this without a TH-cam tutorial lol..... Glad I tried on scrap leather before using the prepared pieces for the wallet I'm making because my lines are HORRIBLE 😂 Thanks for the tips Edit: That border around the maker mark was craaaaaazyyyyy!!! Good job!!
Well slap me silly! I was trying to stamp my basket weave without the full overlap and always had to go back and clean up the connections. Now I am going to border stamp everything in my shop!! Thank you!!
thank you for explaining why you put the tape on the back, I've seen so many ppl do that but they didn't say why, i did my first stamp and i could have sore it stretched, well, watching your video I finally realized that it stretched when I stamped it, thankfully its not noticeable =)
It appears that the angle at which you are using is set at 45°. I thank you for your clear and precise instructions. I will subscribe and save this video for future reference.
I was just messing with a basket weave stamp tho a morning for the first time. I thought you overlap both straight pieces to make a tighter weave. This does look nicer. Excellently timed.
Sup Aaron great job on the video doing the basket stamping and border stamp looks awesome as always Aaron thanks have a great day in the shop Aaron and Jeannie Sue my friends peace out Aaron!🇺🇸
Good video. It looks like you didn't start border stamp right in the corner which is critical. I'm just starting and boy I've had my issues and border stamping is one... where exactly to start, do you ever overlap, fading out in proper places, etc. This video helped a lot with that. Thanks.
I love basketweave patterns, thanks for making this. I've always wanted to make a wallet with a basketweave stamp pattern like this. I was wondering though, how do you finish a piece like this? Can you do a two tone colour effect? And would you finish it before stitching it to the rest of the wallet?
@jayplays568 I always do all my coloring and antique work before assembly. Watch this video and it will show you how to get that effect you're looking for.
@@makersleathersupply1220 thanks! What is the minimum thickness needed to be able to tool leather? e.g. for a wallet exterior or cardholder, what would be the minimum thickness needed?
Hi Aaron - thanks for the great video! Any chance you can post links to the stamps you were using? There are so many different options out there, I never know where to start.
Good video! I am wondering if you will share the brand of the basketweave tool you are using? I have two basketweave tools and they don't seem to make the deep impression that your tool does.
great video. what size is your makers stamp? i am wanting to get a makers stamp made, and yours looks like the perfect size. thank you for all of the great content.
Absolute beginer here, would it not be easier to stamp the border and around you maker mark before doing the basket weaving? Have a solid boundry from the beginning.
@Alex-ib6tm ill do a few rows on a scrap that's a similar size to my project. Do it in a few sizes and compare. After a few times, you just know which you want to use.
What weight maul do you use for the stamping? I am not getting good results with my current one (10 oz) and having to strike it harder than id like. I am wondering if a heavier one would make a difference.
Your video is really amazing and helpful! I was trying to make a video about leather crafts and hope to refer to some video clips from your video. I will cite the source so don't worry! Thanks a lot if you are ok with that.
I have found that the handles on most stamps are not large enough. Also, I would like to "index" my tools by adding a flat that is parallel with the tool mark or in this case with the long sides of the stamp. Does anyone else have issues with small handle tools? I tend to not be able to keep aligned and tool will rotate slightly.
That’s a great tip, I’ve used weights before but just never do when tooling because I turn my work often and it just slows me down. Just about every tooler I know uses one though.
First off they'd have to be Vegetable Tanned Leather, which is rigid and difficult to upholster with. My suggestion would be doing the seats of a normal upholstery leather and doing patches out of the veg tan.

I've never seen someone cut the border like that, but I really like the depth it adds!

You can use somme kitchen Glad Press &seal to protect the back instead of tape

Where did you get the swivel knife in the thumbnail? I’d like one. Beautiful.
It was custom made for me by the guys at www.leatherstampstools.com
Thank you.
Great video, was wondering where to order a custom logo punch?
Mine is made by Steel Stamps, INC. Theirs are the best out there but they're not cheap.

This one is a Barry King
What basket weave stamp is that? I like it

6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other.
How do you decide on the width of basket stamp that looks good on a particular piece of leather work?
@Alex-ib6tm ill do a few rows on a scrap that's a similar size to my project. Do it in a few sizes and compare. After a few times, you just know which you want to use.
Could you use a vertical thumb print carefully as your border stamp to fade into the bevel
Yes, just being careful to keep it even

This is the second video I’ve seen you use that spray bottle. Do you sell them? If not where do I get one?
It’s called a fine mist sprayer. Beauty supply stores sell them or you can find them online.
What is the ideal thickness of leather to do this job?
@luhr.leathersluhr.leathers6150 anything but most folks use between 4-5 and 6-7
Nice work.
What's the thickness of leather are you using?
4-5oz
When are the lux handbag videos coming?

Which Basket Stamp are u using?
It's a Barry King rope basket. Probably the 1.5 size

Got a tip for you. Make up a bag of deer hide and fill it with ill #7 lead shot.
Then put it on the edge of your project to hold it down as you stamp it.

And you make me sick too, great tutorial and nice finish product.
You should move your hand a side man while teaching, we can't even the 3rd attempt for the H tooling properly.
