That was a great explanation how you line up the first corner of the basket weave stamp with the first indent, on down the line, made a lot of sense to me I appreciate how you explained that. Thanks
you probably dont give a damn but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me
I use the little plastic tool from Tandy that the swivel knife fits into to make sure I cut a straight line. I can do it without the tool, but if I make a mistake it lowers the value of the belt, plus it's faster.
@@MountainFisher Because it tips? Put another piece of leather same/similar thickness next to it so the straight edge lies flat. Make sure you leave a bit of space for the distance between edger side and actual cutting point, you can guess or sight that part. Usually pretty quick because I can just lay another belt blank next to it, set it maybe 1/32 off on each end by eye, then run the line
many thanks for the great tutorial, using your method i have just basket stamped a whole 5ft long belt... granted,, mine does not look as good as yours😀 but for my first attempt, i am happy ,, the next one will be better.. can you tell me what you stuck to the flesh side to prevent stretching please, ive tried regular painters tape, but i still got a lot of stretching.. best regards
Great video, thanks for making it. Could you clarify what the difference is between the camouflage tools and just regular border stamp tools? I've seen border stamps that have a similar shape to the camouflage tool you used here so I was just wondering what the differences were and when you should use one instead of the other..
I’m not 100% sure on the difference but they are interchangeable for this application. I think the camouflage tools have a crowned bottom where the boarder stamps are flat but I could be wrong
Awesome video and well explained. But hasn't someone invented or made some sort of embossing tools that are much larger / longer ie 3 or 4 inches long so that you can lay a pattern down an entire belt blank much more efficiently?
Yes but it wouldn’t make sense for me to do that being a small custom shop only doing a few a month, it’s like the difference between driving and walking, driving is quicker but it makes sense to walk sometimes
I would like to make banjo/guitar straps. What leather would you use for that and what’s your source for all your tools and leather ? Just want to make them for me and my friends.
I would make it similar to a belt. So 8/9oz veg tan tooling leather on top and then line with 2/3oz Veg tan. I use grade A tooling leather from Montana leather company and then I get my tools from Barry king for stamping! Hope that helps!
They come in all different shapes and sizes but it’s got one side that’s straight up and down and then one side that’s angled. I show it a bit more in depth in my video about basic tooling!
Nice video and great detail. The only suggestion is to attach your camera to a separate surface to eliminate the bounce of the camera when tapping the stamps.
Thank you! I have another video explaining how I color but basic overview is , fiebings pro dye, fiebings neatsfoot oil, Tandy neat lac, fiebings antique paste, Tandy neat lac, and then fiebings leather sheen
Just a craft tool stamp in the video. Now I use a berry king camouflage. I’m not exactly sure on the number but any will work. Just make sure that it is flat along the one end to make it easier to line up with the edge
No i don’t, for the camouflage I switch to a 16oz maul because it’s not required to hit it as hard, only benefit to sticking with a 2lb would be the good workout
I use a Barry king and they don’t have numbers on their tools. I bought it from makers leather supply though. I’d have to double check on what size it is
Great video tutorial. I’m fixing to do my first. I’ve been practicing with scrape for about 3 months. Now I believe I’ll make the belt.
Right on! Let me know how it goes

Thank you for watching! Glad it was helpful
Nice job man I didn't think to center line for straightness I've just been eyeballing it ,I'm still new I ain't on yalls level yet
Glad it was helpful!

Very nice !
Great tutorial!
Thank you! Be sure to check out my pattern packs link in bio

I’ll have to check that out! Thanks for sharing
Just use a normal straight edge as a guide
@@mjbailey404 Kind of difficult to use a straight edge on a 40+ inch belt.

Glad to hear it helped! I just use painters tape. I have found that it helps to put it on while it’s dry and it’ll stick better
I think is important to begin at the inside and work from there carefully to the outsides.

@@jakeufford7356 OK. now I understand 👍 Thank you
I usually use some water on surface ago press stamp.isn't it necessary ?
Your job excellent bro.greetings from Turkiye
What’s the tool number on your camouflage border stamp please. I have several but none with the straight bottom. Thanks.
It’s a Barry king 7 seed boarder. I’m not sure exactly what size I have though

Большое спасибо!Всё ясно и понятно!

So you would use two pieces of leather stitched together?
@@bobbywilliams780 yes. You don’t have to but it’s just an extra step that creates a nicer product
Excellent video.. like your attention to the details… what does the edge bevel tool look like?
They come in all different shapes and sizes but it’s got one side that’s straight up and down and then one side that’s angled. I show it a bit more in depth in my video about basic tooling!
Awesome work! Where did you buy your basket stamp from?
Bhai ko kaha se ho ta hai is ka
Nice video and great detail. The only suggestion is to attach your camera to a separate surface to eliminate the bounce of the camera when tapping the stamps.
Thanks for the tip!
great job congratulations. What technique did you then use to color the belt?
Thank you! I have another video explaining how I color but basic overview is , fiebings pro dye, fiebings neatsfoot oil, Tandy neat lac, fiebings antique paste, Tandy neat lac, and then fiebings leather sheen
Thank you!
Can you show how you’d paint the basket weave
It would be the same as my antique video. I have changed my technique a bit so I should be making an updated video in the near future
What size tools?
2 or 3?
What brand of swivel knife are you using
Leather wranglers swivel knife
Hello when these belts are finished , have you dyed over the edge?? To get the dark edge, or did you airbrush the edge ? Cheers
On edges I go back and forth on what I use. Lately I’ve been just using the Fiebings pro dye after I burnish!
Great video. What # camouflage stamp is that?
Just a craft tool stamp in the video. Now I use a berry king camouflage. I’m not exactly sure on the number but any will work. Just make sure that it is flat along the one end to make it easier to line up with the edge
How come when bevel you drag and don’t lift
Why do you put the blue tape under the leather?
It helps to prevent the leather from stretching when you are making the impressions
Which basket stamp are you using?
It’s a Barry king stamp
Kool 👍
Thanks for the tutorial. You present some great pointers. Are you still using the 2lb maul with the camouflager?
No i don’t, for the camouflage I switch to a 16oz maul because it’s not required to hit it as hard, only benefit to sticking with a 2lb would be the good workout
How about corner to corner instead of corner to first indent?
Going to the first indent makes it so that the next time you lay it down the corner will fall in line with the last stamp you made if that makes sense
how can i purchase that tool?
They sell them online, for a cheaper one check out Tandy leather and if you’re wanting to spend a little more for a nicer one check out Barry king
Woah
Can I stamp over a stamp
If you want to go back over and re do some of the stamps to get them deeper you could but you don’t want to over lap stamps
If that answers your question
