So pleased I got to see this video.....just poped up on my phone ! I was actually working across the street from Sammys house the day he died in May 1990 ! We were working on the rebuild of Pickfair.....which is literally across the street there ! The morning Sammy died the street was closed off and we couldn't get to work for several hours ...so many tv companies and satellite trucks parked up and along Summit drive ! Remember it like it was yesterday..... Allways lived and admired Sammy .... Great video 🥂
My Dad worked as a stagehand on a show of his in Las Vegas. He said Sammy rented out the Whole Movie theatre in Las Vegas (cinedome 12) and told everyone who worked on the show to come watch movies and have free popcorn and soda. This was in the 80's. In Vegas we probably had like 3 big movie theatres them. He said he was Just the Greatest Guy. My Dad still has a black and white headshot signed by Sammy.
One of the most celebrated, greatest entertainers of all time -there was no one like Sammy Davis Jr. adored by all worldwide RIP Sammy you were so loved, still are -thanks Scott for this very special visit to Sammy’s gravesite felt I paid my respects -thank you Scott you work so hard , thank you , stay safe stay well.
My sister worked at Harrah's (in the coat room). One time, she was walking down the hall, & Sammy Davis zoomed by on his golf cart & almost hit her. He apologized, then gave her tickets to see his show!!
I was fortunate to be in the recording studio when Sammy sang a radio jingle for Harrah's casino. The band tracks were pre-recorded. Sammy walked in, glanced at the charts, listened once to the music bed, and nailed the vocals in one take. Then he said, "I probably ought to give them two takes, so they feel they got their money's worth," and he sang it again. We listened to the playback, and a few notes in Sammy laughed and said, "Nope. Got it right the first time." He chatted with those of us in the studio for a few minutes, then got in his Ferrari and drove home. Still one of my favorite days ever.
Take me back to the days when entertainers had an actual talent, and not just a presence on Tiktok or Insta, or a stint on reality TV! RIP to a man who was a consumate entertainer and seemed to be a great human being. Thank you Scott for letting me pay my respects to Mr Sammy Davis Jr. 👍🏻✌🏼
Thank you Scott you do your shows with such class, dignity, true warmth -Sammy was a huge star but never forgot how he broke down barriers and become this mega star Frank Sinatra adored him and the rest of the rat pack -great remembrance thank you Scott love your shows! RIP to a great great entertainer who will always be remembered never to be forgotten my parents adored him , especially my dad , he use to say what a magnificent voice , he loved him dearly so did my mom . RIP Sammy you were and are dearly loved.
I think peoples values have changed. I agree with your assessment 100% and it’s sad. With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, it’s a reminder that we’re losing the greatest generation who went to actual war and fought for those values only for kids today to worship demons like the Kardashian’s. (talentless hacks that are so superficial, it’s actually dangerous to young girls) Sammy was a tremendous talent, he’s greatly missed and will forever be remembered and respected.
His wife I'd buried next to him in an unmarked grave. I wish you could do a story on her someday because she was so devoted to him. Unfortunately Sammy died in deep debt and she worked all the way up to her death to pay them off. She worked everything from dinner theaters night clubs and cruise ships with her act. She was a remarkable woman.
Sammy - Frank Sinatra - Dean Martin - Jerry Lewis and many others..They do not make them like that anymore. Great entertainers who lived huge. They had fun, you could see it in every performance whether on stage or on film. They had talent That's unimaginable and untouchable in todays Hollywood. Entertainers like them are non existent now. It's Sad that those days are behind us. Thank you for this. ❤

My dad died from cancer and it was hard to see him go away like that. I was kind of hesitant to watch this, glad I did watch. Did not know his grave was off limits. RIP, Sammy Davis, Jr, legend. 🌹
@@leeparks15 my dad passed from this type of cancer. Miserable way to go. His throat was so burned from radiation and dad suffered nerve damage from the radiation.
Sammy’s funeral was televised and millions of people watched it, including myself. He was a very public person, so he asked for and got a very public funeral. His resting place is one of the very few instances where a celebrity is buried with the rest of his family who preceded him in death. Thanks for showing that. Regarding the talk of his weight and the possibility of an open coffin, according to a Sinatra biography: Frank Sinatra visited Sammy a few days before Sammy died. Sinatra entered Sammy’s room. Sammy’s appearance was so horrific that Sinatra dropped to his knees and wept uncontrollably at Sammy’s bedside. The cancer had totally consumed him, and the report of his weight being 60 pounds was actually a liberal estimate. It’s highly doubtful that pictures or an open coffin would have been allowed. These days, Sammy’s home may be the property of the IRS. Sammy Davis Jr was my favorite singer/entertainer. May he continue to rest in peace along with his family.
Oh wow never knew that about Frank Sinatra. It is horrific seeing a loved one being consumed by cancer I can picture it happening. He was an incredible friend to Frank. God bless
I highly doubt the story of an open casket at the funeral is true. I hardly think his wife would of allowed that considering how terrible Sammy would have looked in the end. I also think the story of Frank Sinatra and the photos is bs. What is certainly true is that Sammy died penniless owing millions to the IRS which spawned a decade old battle between Altovise and the IRS trying in vain to have the debts cleared. She had to sell the Beverly Hills mansion boy that did not cover all of the debt. Unfortunately she was reduced to auctioning Sammy’s personal items such as his jewelry and other memorabilia. Very sad indeed….

He was the most consummate all around entertainer of all time as he can sing, act, dance, impersonates many celebrities and be comedian - The Greatest Entertainer of All Time. Sammy's rendition of the song "Chico and the Man" brilliantly displays his vocal talents. He was incomparable. Thank you, Scott, for another informative, interactive, and intriguing video. Stay safe and well-hydrated.
Rest in peace Sammy. You will not be forgotten! I loved the song 'Mr. Bojangles' that song always lifts my heart and puts a smile on my face....I can just see him now, singing and dancing to it. Awe, simply perfection!
Sammy Davis was great at singing, tapping, dancing and was a good man too. I love that he stood up for himself and the casinos changed their rules to not be segregating the entertainers and those attending the shows. As for his songs, I had "The Candyman" on a 45, I loved that song and sometimes I just sing it to myself (still). RIP Sammy Davis Jr. and thanks for the memories!
Hi Scott... when I was looking for my own final resting place at Forest Lawn the employee there took me into this section and showed me Sammy's plot. She told me that Sammy's wife Altovise came to visit him every day up until the day she died she loved and missed him so much.
Loved the episode of All in the Family when he kissed Archie, one of my favorites. He was and will always be the coolest cat, man! My dad was a huge fan of the whole Rat Pack, so we watched reruns of all the shows and specials. He would go around singing like Dean Martin and was actually pretty good. I know of Sammy Davis Jr, only through my mother introducing me to his music, I don't know much about him. But from what I can tell he was a very talented individual that was loved by many. RIP Sammy Davis Jr 🙏🕊️
At first I was sad to learn that Altovise has an unmarked grave, because it made it sound like Sammy didn’t take care of her. But, then, I had to be reminded of all the videos I watched where he talked about her going shopping. Mostly everyone knows that Sammy was not great at managing his finances, but he took care of his loved ones while he was alive, including his wife. It would’ve been nice if he had made a provision for her to be buried next to him, but, his son, Manny Davis, whom he adopted with Altovise is now in charge of managing Sammy’s estate. That estate does make money because Sammy’s music is still being used in movies. So, where his dad dropped the mantle, Manny can pick it up and put a marker on his mother’s grave. Thank you for sharing this video!
Good Evening Scott 🙋🏽. I remember watching Sammy Davis jr.on TV As a child. My grandparents and parents USED TO WATCH him from time to time. Thank you doing this one.😃👍🏽.
Thank you for educating us on famous people. You do such a nice job giving respect. You make it possible for people to appreciate all of their accomplishments and learn. I am so sad Olivia Newton John died this week. It is so strange how deaths hurt fans when we never personally knew them. Yet they have such an impact in our lives.
I always loved Sammy Davis Jr. He's one of my dad's favorite performers. He is one of the few true Legends of Vegas. I was just a baby when my dad and his friends flew out to Las Vegas to see him perform. He was so amazed. Whenever he recalled it he talked about it like a little kid at Christmas. He got to go backstage and get his autograph and shake his hand. That stayed with him forever. He saw Elvis, Sinatra and Martin and Lewis perform but their shows didn't affect him like Sammy's did. He was a great man and a great Entertainer.
Sammy was the ultimate entertainer; he did do it all and was very beloved. You mentioned he was buried next to his wife, is that the unmarked grave next to him? Is that Altovise? I didn't know she died. RIP Sammy. Beautiful job as always Scott.
I am very moved by the respect shown in this video. I see some of Sami Davis's films on television. He was a brilliant performer. My favourite song he sang is Mr Boujanles. Thank you for all the information you provided and for your whole attitude. I was moved when you placed that stone on his grave. R.I.P. Sami Davis. 🌸. A very beautiful video. Many thanks.
Mine too. I read an interview once when he said something to the effect that he hoped he wouldn't be forgotten as the song's character. No,Mr. Davis, you will not be forgotten. A do-it-all consummate entertainer. Wish I could've met him
He died way to young! Thank you for this video Scott. All the good actor and actresses are leaving us.He died 7 months after Lucille Ball! I remember watching him as a young girl with my mom! He played a lot of fun rolls and danced along side so meany amazing actor, and actresses! R.I.P. 🙏🏼
Sammy Davis Jr was a great singer and dancer and actor and he was loved by everyone and his legacy will always live on and he will be missed but not forgotten
I know he was married to actress, Mae Britt early on and had two kids I believe. Didn't know what other marriages came down the line but glad he had his family with him when he passed. RIP.
I absolutely love this video! ... Tribute that you had given him was so touching! ... Thank you Scott for once again taking me back to a time where life was new for me and he was one of the people that kept us entertained and it was obvious he put his whole heart into what he did! ❤️🌹❤️
Mr. Show Business that I consider the greatest entertainer of all time and even at his 60th anniversary special all the big named black artists showed their appreciation of him opening the door for all of them. Listen to Michael Jacksons song "Because of You" that he wrote just for that show. As a member of the Will Mastin family I am proud to be a key holder to Sammy's gravesite. The Will Mastin Trio Featuring Sammy Davis Jr. all together again for eternity.
Sammy Davis Jr. was a great singer and entertainer. I don't think I ever saw him without a lit cigarette during an interview or performance. I was always amazed that his voice held-up thru all that smoking. It's the rare individual that can be a chain-smoker and get away with it.
Sadly he didn't get away with it. It's why he died so young from laryngeal cancer. Cursed cigarettes also killed Dean Martin (lung cancer) and contributed to Frank's death also Smoking overall kills more people than illegal drugs.. They certainly took Sammy from us.♥️😰
I consider him, along with Judy Garland, the greatest entertainer of all time. He could do it all. I used to have a Caesars Palace menu signed by him but I gave it away, years ago, damn it! Nicely done!
LOVED THIS! Big thank you. I used to LOVE watching Sammy as a kid. Didn’t really think much of how he passed, where he was buried etc until now. Very touching and such a beautiful gravesite.
I remember hearing about his passing on my "Walkman" while waiting for my bus to come home from work. Very sad. A true, all around entertainment legend! Yes, He did it all!! Without Davis, entertainment industry changed forever!!
Truly a gift..loved this man...sad that the gteat actors are now gone and I grew up watching him and loved him...God has an angel...he is still remembered and should be...great man!!
Thank you so much for all the love and respect you show all the Gravesites you visit. I really love how you give us a story with all of them. Love you.
Love any video where you visit Forest Lawn! That place is so fascinating to me. Thanks for another great one Scott! Sammy Davis Jr was a legend.. may he Rest In Peace.
When I was a kid I was huge Rat Pack fan Sammy and Frank were my favorite so were my grandparents and on my birthday they surprised me with 2 records, one from Sammy and one from Frank then one day I couldn't find them and I was so hurt that I couldn't find them but a few days later my grandparents showed up and they had just got back from L.A. and they had my records with them and on the front of them both were autographs from both Sammy and Frank turns out my grandparents had went to a concert where both of them were doing and they got to go backstage and meet them and told them what a huge fan I was so they signed them for me and I remember they both said, thank you for being a huge fan and stay in school it was awesome, then one day my bedroom got flooded and I lost both of them records. Thank you for doing this video, Sammy Davis jr was the best and so was Frank Sinatra.
Sammy broke down so many barriers. What a great talent! On a lighter note, I wonder if there are a bunch of souls in the spirit world trying to figure out where all the frigging rocks are coming from...lol
You're right. In the 60's they wouldn't allow black entertainers on the strip in Vegas. So, Sinatra said if Sammy wasn't allowed, he wouldn't perform either. I think he still had to go in through the back entrance. All the black entertainers, used to perform at the moulin rouge in Las Vegas. The building is a historical landmark now. Sammy faced a lot of racism in his day. He persevered, and is One Of The Greatest Entertainers ever.
I GOTTA BE ME is my all time favorite Sammy Davis Jr. song. He didn't have big hits but he made good records even with Carmen McRae! As a matter of fact I think he did the intro to Shorty Long's version of HERE COMES THE JUDGE. And he did two excellent appearances on The Rifleman TV show. He could really handle those pistols!
I've watched 3 so far. today Sammy, Issac and Redd. This is so kind of you to remember and pay your respects to these people. It's genuine and I like what you do. Keep on keeping on

Sammys song ‘The Candyman Can’ was on the radio today and now I’m watching this video about him - well done, he was a great man and died so young only 64 - I sometimes wonder is it the chemotherapy that actually kills people.
I have breast cancer, had 2 surgeries this summer, still cancer in me, going for a consult about radiation therapy this week. Thank God chemo is not part of their recommended therapy for me, otherwise I would refuse. Just saying 😑
Scott you continue to rock on with your videos. What a great man. He could do it all and very well. Who could begin to match him. No one. A legend for all of us. I still miss him and Gregory Hines!!💝🙏
The Sammy Davis Jr Greater Hartford Open was a blockbuster PGA event here in Connecticut for years. The Pro-Am event during each tournament was loaded with stars like Hope, Crosby, Martin, etc. so many stars they put on a show at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford during tournament week each year.
Well guess what- as soon as he passed away, the IRS confiscated that house because he owed some 5 million dollars in taxes. His wife Altovise had to move out ASAP and she didnt even know what the hell was going on. I heard Frank Sinatra paid for the funeral. I doubt if he was buried with expensive jewelry because the IRS seized it and his wife needed the money. he left her nothing but aa insurance policy. She had to return to Pennsylvania to live with her family because she did not have any separate assets. Altovise died at age 65 and I think her grave is right next to his
The man was a Megastar. So multitalented. I'll always remember his ALL IN THE FAMILY episode. The look on Archie's face was priceless. Heard his many singles growing up. But I think my absolute fave is the theme song from BARETTA. "Don't do the crime if you cant do the time..."🎶

Thank you for a great homage and pilgrimage to one of the greatest tap dancers of all time ( Sammy Davis) final resting place. Highly appreciated.
I remember when everyone was camped outside his home. It was really sad. He was such a great entertainer and too young. RIP Sammy 🙏🏻
❤❤❤❤😢
Sammy was the epitimy of class. Great talent. Loved him in an episode of The Rifleman where he played a gun slinger. Absolute Legend!
Love Sammy he was a very great actor as well as a gifted singer
Good Evening Scott 🙋🏽. I remember watching Sammy Davis jr.on TV As a child. My grandparents and parents USED TO WATCH him from time to time. Thank you doing this one.😃👍🏽.
R.I.P Sammy! True talent and legend. 🌷💕
So awesome that you got access to the grave. Thanks for videoing that so we could all see!
Sammy was the ultimate entertainer; he did do it all and was very beloved. You mentioned he was buried next to his wife, is that the unmarked grave next to him? Is that Altovise? I didn't know she died. RIP Sammy. Beautiful job as always Scott.
Is daughter tracey davis
I am very moved by the respect shown in this video. I see some of Sami Davis's films on television. He was a brilliant performer. My favourite song he sang is Mr Boujanles. Thank you for all the information you provided and for your whole attitude. I was moved when you placed that stone on his grave. R.I.P. Sami Davis. 🌸. A very beautiful video. Many thanks.
And thank you for watching Marytheresa
Mine too. I read an interview once when he said something to the effect that he hoped he wouldn't be forgotten as the song's character. No,Mr. Davis, you will not be forgotten. A do-it-all consummate entertainer. Wish I could've met him
@@SCOTTONTAPE Thank you Scott. Its precious. I shall remember it always.
I would not have expected a statue like that at Sammy’s grave. What a beautiful private garden.
Great video Scott. Sammy broke down barriers and was so talented. RIP Sammy.
RIP to a icon! Thank you for sharing this video. Sammy was truly a legend.
Loved Sammy Davis Jr.
He had so much talent RIP💐
I know he was married to actress, Mae Britt early on and had two kids I believe. Didn't know what other marriages came down the line but glad he had his family with him when he passed. RIP.
I absolutely love this video! ... Tribute that you had given him was so touching! ... Thank you Scott for once again taking me back to a time where life was new for me and he was one of the people that kept us entertained and it was obvious he put his whole heart into what he did! ❤️🌹❤️
What a loss he was. Taken far too soon. I have loved him all my life. His beautiful voice lives on thank heavens.
He was a great guy. When he did the golf open I got to talk to him and he was just so kind and genuine. Truly one of the greats. Terrific video.✌️❤️
Wow thank you so much RedBud!
Cursed cigarettes also killed Dean Martin (lung cancer) and contributed to Frank's death also
Smoking overall kills more people than illegal drugs.. They certainly took Sammy from us.♥️😰
I consider him, along with Judy Garland, the greatest entertainer of all time. He could do it all. I used to have a Caesars Palace menu signed by him but I gave it away, years ago, damn it! Nicely done!
He was so talented. I loved him in the movie he did with Gregory Hines. I think it was called “Tap”. Thank you for sharing
I must give YOU honor MY FRIEND! You did this entire piece with dignity and honor. You do for people, whom can no longer represent themselves.
Who can make the sun rise, the candyman can babe. Absolutely love Sammy, what a legend, I remember the day he passed, rock nroll Scott great video.
Truly a gift..loved this man...sad that the gteat actors are now gone and I grew up watching him and loved him...God has an angel...he is still remembered and should be...great man!!
What a phenomenal entertainer. Great job on this video Scott,,,,,,,,RIP Sammy.

Love any video where you visit Forest Lawn! That place is so fascinating to me. Thanks for another great one Scott! Sammy Davis Jr was a legend.. may he Rest In Peace.
Thank you Scott for sharing this wonderful man's resting place, when you put that stone on his marker, the tears poured. R.i.p. Sammy Davis Jr.
Mr. Davis and Jim Henson left us on the same day. Hope they have made heaven even more wonderful.
Scott , you are a content producer of the the highest level, love this vid mate
Thank you Eddy!
Best one yet Scott! Watched this one with my 68yr old Italian Mother
Thank you Ali! Say hello to your mother for me please!
Sammy broke down so many barriers. What a great talent! On a lighter note, I wonder if there are a bunch of souls in the spirit world trying to figure out where all the frigging rocks are coming from...lol
Lolol
You're right. In the 60's they wouldn't allow black entertainers on the strip in Vegas. So, Sinatra said if Sammy wasn't allowed, he wouldn't perform either. I think he still had to go in through the back entrance. All the black entertainers, used to perform at the moulin rouge in Las Vegas. The building is a historical landmark now. Sammy faced a lot of racism in his day. He persevered, and is One Of The Greatest Entertainers ever.
@@SCOTTONTAPE hey Scott do you believe in ghosts and spirits?
Sammy was an amazing performer who helped to change peoples' attitudes to race. RIP Sammy Davis.
SDjr will be remembered as a kind man to strangers. ✌️❤️ thank you for sharing 👍
Well done, as always Scott! Sammy was a great entertainer! RIP Sammy...🙏❤
Just watched him this morning on Laugh-In!! He was an amazing talent. Thank you, Scott 🥰
Very respectfully done. Sammy was a very talented entertainer and brought smiles to to tens of thousand of fans.
Very respectful as always. Thank you.
Sammy could do anything. Everyone loved him.
I've watched 3 so far. today Sammy, Issac and Redd. This is so kind of you to remember and pay your respects to these people. It's genuine and I like what you do. Keep on keeping on

Nice video! Respectfully done. What an amazing, down to earth man Sammy seemed to be. And a nonstop entertainer. Sorry, but no one from today’s artists even come close to this guy. Those of us who knew of him were lucky to have lived during his time. RIP Mr. Sammy Davis Junior!
This was a good video Scott you did it justice and yes sammy was great entertiner and he is surely missed by his fans. thanks scott for doing such a fablous video on him.
My dad died the same day May 16, 1990 along with Jim Henson also.✌️❤️🙏
Scott, Beautiful tribute to a legend!!! 🙏🏽👍😍
Loved him he was great. So so talented, so so funny all the laughs. That bright big smile. He seemed like if you met him what you saw was what you got. Legends all if them we've lost them end of an Era. Thanks Scott nice job once again.
Sammys song ‘The Candyman Can’ was on the radio today and now I’m watching this video about him - well done, he was a great man and died so young only 64 -
I sometimes wonder is it the chemotherapy that actually kills people.
HEALVY SMOKER & DRINKER! Smoking alone Killed both of my Parents!
I have breast cancer, had 2 surgeries this summer, still cancer in me, going for a consult about radiation therapy this week. Thank God chemo is not part of their recommended therapy for me, otherwise I would refuse. Just saying 😑
@@FormerMPSGT Smoking killed my mom too, she didn't have cancer, emphysema. My dad has none cancer now, sorry bout your parents, God Bless🙏💓
Smoking...wiped out Nat King Cole & Sammy.
@@laurastrobel718 Best of luck to you.
Scott you continue to rock on with your videos. What a great man. He could do it all and very well. Who could begin to match him. No one. A legend for all of us. I still miss him and Gregory Hines!!💝🙏
thankyou very much, that is treat seeing his rest place, much appreciated from us in NEW ZEALAND
Wow I’m from Hartford,ct I never knew this
What a showman! Thank you for this tribute.
Altovise died at age 65 and I think her grave is right next to his
I love Sammy Davis JR and The Rat Pack. He died when I was still a baby but I grew up listening to his music and comedy. What a legend.
The man was a Megastar. So multitalented. I'll always remember his ALL IN THE FAMILY episode. The look on Archie's face was priceless. Heard his many singles growing up. But I think my absolute fave is the theme song from BARETTA. "Don't do the crime if you cant do the time..."🎶
Memories of both my parents and Grandparents watching Sammy on T.V back in the early to mid 70s, that was my life with Hee Haw the list goes on, my Mom worked nights, so Dad and i and my Brother would make a fast meal and watch what Dad was watching... pretty much Hee Haw and Gunsmoke, miss Kitty always made me cry because she looked like my mom and i missed her until morning, ok i was like 6 maybe 7 at the time, but i did get into both shows... hugs to you Scott from wisconsin 🤗
Brilliant video Scott. I actually love that neighborhood, it looks so peaceful. Another amazing legend gone. Even though I know these faces, I never know the story behind their deaths, this is why I love watching your videos. Thanks for another amazing content.
Great entertainment always loved him may his family all rest in peace
