Suzanne Somers is the third of four children born to Frank and Marion Mahoney. Her father worked loading beer onto boxcars, and her mother was a medical secretary. She grew up living in constant fear of being hurt or even killed at the hands of her verbally and physically abusive alcoholic father. She was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was young, and was a poor student. She excelled, however, in the arts and was active in her school's theater program. She won a music scholarship to college, but became pregnant after six months. She married the baby's father, "Bruce Somers", and her only child, Bruce Somers, was born in November 1965. She was unhappy in her marriage and began an affair with her former drama teacher. Her husband found out about it and the marriage ended after just two years, in 1967. A single mom, she turned to modeling in San Francisco to support herself and her son. She also distanced herself from her family because her older brother and sister by then were also alcoholics. In 1968, she won a job as a prize model on a game show hosted by her future husband, Alan Hamel, who was married at the time. The two began dating, and she became pregnant while Hamel was still married. They came to the conclusion that Suzanne should have an abortion, from which she suffered severe bleeding for several days. In 1971, her son Bruce was severely injured when he was hit by a car, and the therapist counseling him only charged the struggling Suzanne $1 per week. Suzanne herself also underwent therapy to overcome the problems of her dysfunctional childhood. In the early 1970s, she landed minor roles in film and TV, and finally won a role on the series Three's Company (1976), where she modeled her character after Dick Clark's wife. She married Hamel in 1977. She was fired from the series after she asked for a raise at the beginning of the fifth season. She then headed to Las Vegas, where she performed extensively in the mid-1980s. In 1986, she began writing her autobiography, "Keeping Secrets", which was later made into a TV movie. In 1991, Suzanne landed the role of "Carol Foster", opposite Patrick Duffy, on the TV series Step by Step (1991). Since the end of that show, she has begun co-hosting the series Candid Camera (1992).
Somers and Hamel bought a house in Palm Springs, California, in 1977, and they sold it in 2021 for $8.5 million.
In January 2007, a wildfire in Southern California destroyed Somers' home in Malibu, California.
Somers had hyperplasia in her 20s and skin cancer in her 30s.
In April 2000, Somers was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a lumpectomy to remove the cancer, followed by radiation therapy.
In 2018, it was reported that she underwent an experimental stem-cell therapy to regrow the breast she lost to cancer. In 2020, Somers fractured her hip when she jumped out of a private tram to her house.
Somers died at her home in Palm Springs, California, on October 15, 2023, one day before her 77th birthday. Her breast cancer had returned earlier in the year. Her funeral was held three days later, with her interment at Desert Memorial Park.

My Dad ran a cemetery ❤ he would always helped people who were sad and crying. He had no idea the good work he was doing. In 2002 my Dad passed away , from pancreatic cancer. When he picked his spot in the Cemetery, he put himself near the little girl he buried a month before This way she not alone. It’s hard job , because your dealing with families and taking care on the place. 😊 He was amazing 😊😊

My dad worked at a cemetery when I was younger. Some days he would come home on the brink of tears. As I got older he told me that the hardest days he would have would be when he had to bury little babies. He would tell me there was nothing that would hit his heart more than a little baby that never had a chance at life.

Bless all your dad's hearts.💕🕊️ My dad would visit funeral homes with people he never knew, but read about. So when he passed, the funeral home had to add more pages to his remembrance book because lots of people came to visit him. It pays to have a good tender heart. Bless you guys. 😘💕❤️🙏Your family's also. 🕊️🥰

I think that this is the only cemetery that you’ve shown that has numerous families/friends visiting their love ones as if it was a family get together. I think that’s wonderful for folks to share time with the departed like that. I hope that my family feels free to picnic on my grave!

Well, this is very much the case with many other cemeteries, but more importantly, I own, unfortunately, due to outliving everyone in my family tree. I have become the land baron of Hollywood Hills Forest. Life is funny. You never know when you become a land baron at a cemetery. I ended up owning 23 plots there, including five more. More to the point many, many families go to the cemetery and spend time visiting with their loved ones who have passed . This practice transcends all ethnicities and cultures. This is a common practice for myself as well, especially for all the holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries . And do not forget all the wonderful holidays to go and visit and decorate.🙏🙄

I had breast cancer and I chose breast removal in case some of the cells leaked out. So to make sure they got it all, that’s why I chose it. What an intimate, warm culture the visitors of that cemetery seem to have about death--at least the ones out that day! I love that. I'd hate the thought of my loved ones just hanging around my headstone all solemn and weeping. Play music, eat, laugh! Tell each other stories about our time together, talk to me about your favorite memories. "Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep." On another note, when I was a kid, I LOVED TV Land, and would stay up late to watch Cheers and Three's Company. Suzanne Somers and John Ritter are both gone now, but I sure do thank them for the memories and laughs. Where the kisses are hers and hers and his...

I've been subscribed for some time now and if there is one thing I've noticed over and over, you just keep getting better and better at what you do. And I believe I speak for the many subscribers when I say you make TH-cam a delight to enjoy. It's always interesting to see what you've accomplished next with your work. I applaud you on another great video and giving respects to a true gem such as the lovely Suzanne Somers. RIP

Another fabulous video, Scott! Thank you for doing this after her passing. She was in the first episode of The Love Boat and had numerous guest appearances on TV shows from that era. She was also in Magnum Force, one of the "Dirty Harry" movies Clint Eastwood did. Lots of actors in that one. I believe she was also in Starsky and Hutch TV series.

Hello Scott, I really loved your video on Susanne Somers (Chrissy Snow) she was an amazing woman! I don't know if you know this, but Susanne autually promoted another exercising device, (before the thigh master) that was supposed to help your butt, and I purchased it, but now I can't remember the name of it. Lol 😅 Susanne was so amazing, sweet, talented, and she loved to show other women on how they could improve themselves to look and feel better!! When I was younger I watched Three's Company and Step By Step everytime they come on tv and now I can watch Three's Company Reruns on Antenna Tv every evening!!! I'm so happy that Antenna Tv is showing Reruns of Three's Company because it's nice for people my age and for the young GenY and GenZ people that have never seen the show. So far the actors/actresses that are still alive and well from the show are Richard Kline (Larry Dallas),
    Joyce Dewitt (Janet Wood),
    Jenilee Harrison (Cindy Snow),
    Priscilla Barnes (Terri Alden),
    and Gino Conforti (Felipe Gomez)
RIP to Suzanne Somers, John Ritter and the other ones who have passed away from the tv show Three's Company. You'll be missed but NEVER forgotten.
    😢♥️🙏🏻✝️

There's been some controversy over whether that's where she's actually buried at or not. One person says yes, then turns around and says no or maybe. I'm waiting for the headstone to be placed. She deserved to get paid more! 😔 RIP Suzanne! ❤🙏
