    Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I th-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

    Just wanted to say thanks for all the informative videos. My husband & I purchased an older Jayco 5th Wheel as total newbies to camping & he sat & studied TH-cam videos at night while rehabbing the camper for 6 months. Eight days before our Maiden Voyage he was killed at work in a construction accident. 😢 I am now trying to learn & do all of this pretty much on my own, but it is a lot & it is hard for just one woman. I will use it myself sometimes, but plan to try to rent it out as a source of income. Your maintenance videos are a huge help to me. Thanks again.

      Vicki, very sorry to read about your husband and would like to give you a few words of encouragement from a solo woman traveler - to be. As a single woman, you're worth more than 100 men! Think of the journey and adventure, especially if you DON'T take it on. Join the Escapees RV Club and connect with other single women and men RV'ers and VERY helpful couples. Maybe you'll decide on a different or easier rig for your own skill set and travel plans. Whatever you do, I wish you the best.

    Here is my tip... Learn to do your own RV maintenance and use a good car maintenance management program ( I use Automotive Wolf car care software ) to track and monitor it all. It also tracks all my parts, expenses and creates a detailed vehicle maintenance log. After RV'ing for over 10 years I've saved thousands by doing most of the maintenance myself and there is a lot of it on an RV! A small roof leak can cost you thousands in repairs so I check my roof at least twice a year. Keep on top of the maintenance and you'll save money and be RV'ing for years :)

    The Schwintek gears need to be lubricated too (not the track, as you pointed out). You use that same CRC Power Lube with PTFE, you bend the straw nozzle into a U-shape then spray the gears (top and bottom) on each side. Lippert (maker of Schwintek) has a video called "In-Wall Slide-Out System - Mechanical Lubrication" ... search for it here on TH-cam.

    Just wanted to say that the CRC products are very good. If you have a specific chemical need for your maintenance program, such as the slide lubricant, or battery terminal protectant, or dielectric grease, CRC makes good quality products.

    Also, if a Swintek style...ensure you HOLD the button at LEAST 5 seconds after it's fully out or in. The motors must "synch" again. If you just let go right when it stops moving they could stop at slightly different positions and bind the slide the next time you go to open or close it. Some with your power awning...won't hurt anything at all.

    • @therealjr1715

      Yes

    • @Hundert1
      @Hundert1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh, this is information which is great to know. I'm not certain we must always roll the awning entirely out though. I think maybe we have flexibility in how far out we can roll the awning. Basically, it would be very nice if we didn't have to roll out the entire awning. Same for slides it would be great if everything working fine with slide only partially out. But maybe it just can't be done. But I think Awnings can still be fine with only partially rolled out? Thanks

    On the Schwintek Lippert recomends lubing with CRC Power Lube with PTFE in the green can (industrial). I had a slideout that would not fully retract even after resyncing. I lubbed 7 of the 8 bearing stations (one is difficult to get at) and now it slideouts perfectly.

    A nother thing , if you have a auto lever system. Make sure the slide is all the way in before leveling or releveling. If parked on soft ground.
    Also on my Coachman Chaperal the seal under the slide was to wide and got caught in the rollers tearing the seal. We found this after driving in the rain. We was given a new seal to install. Sounds like a common problem.

    BIG THANK YOU to Keystone RV et al , Got on here a day after "almost" finishing the USED monster Dutchman 5th wheel "flushing" adding anti-freeze and slid the dining room "in" BUT not all the way... it resisted on the far side so I stopped using the rocker switch button immediately. This one side still has 4 inches to move in flush. IF, there is a slightly bent /rack can it still be retracted or replaced somehow?
    Now I can peruse your handy info as I plan to have this dilemma fixed b4 freeze up. Hoping it is only a sandal/ (flip flop) when I return with my clean rag, "CRC" RV "Power Lube" rack/pinion spray, "CRC" battery corrosion prevention and high hopes this will not be too costly and time consuming. Now, where are those old coveralls? Nice clean shop...looking ship-shape; I must add.

    I guessing that low voltage on the battery(s) will cause the motors on the slides to draw excessive current overheating the motor internal windings, and causing premature failure?

    Dont forget to mention about the craptastic roofs some trailers have. Ours just shredded off, and it has eletrical bugs after a tire blew shredding the underskirting. $32,000 camper owned for 3 years and now totaled. To be fair, she does get a lot of highways miles.

    You said not to step on the slide when it isn't all the way out, what about sitting on the couch or at the table when the slide is all the way in, like when traveling? My Jayco Seneca has the same rack and pinion slide mechanism on the slide that contains the couch and dinette. It also has 4 seat belts at the dinette and 3 on the couch. It would seem that it could tolerate people sitting here while traveling, but I often wonder about it.

    • @therealjr1715
      @therealjr1715 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will say if it is a truck rack and pinion do not....that being said contact Jayco and see what they say. I understand your logic and want to agree with it but we do not deal with Jaycos motorhome division so they may have something different with there setup. I try to talk about the rule and not the exception to the rules in the videos. Have I seen brands that you can, yes but more often see ones that cant

    • @KeystoneRVCenter
      @KeystoneRVCenter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're speaking of the jacks that you place under the slide out room to "stabilize" them, we say "No!" The use of slide out room jacks can void your warranty and the manufacturer of the unit says NOT to use them. They put pressure on the bottom of the slide and cause the slide room to become misaligned. They also will reduce the amount of seal you get on the top of the slide out room and could cause your slide out room to leak.

    I have watched many of your videos. Many very informative. One issue it there is a Recall on the slide out floors being installed below the sidewalls and the water runs to the 1” flooring that is press wood. Horrible company. Taking shortcuts on my rv and both sides of slide out rotten and Keystone won’t admit poor building. This slide out has protected on bottom where mine doesn’t at the rotted area. Batman please rescue me.

I know nothing about them, bought this used and delivered, no battery at all, the slide went out then stopped and won't go back in , checked fuses, I am gong to get a battery for it and try that. It was hooked to the delivery truck to get it out that far, am plugged in to the campground power.

    Hi, Thank you for your video! I have had my RV for about 5 years. I was not aware the slide needs to be all the way in or all the way out. I left it many times about halfway. Now under the dinette seats, there is a musty smell. I ripped out the carpet under both seats, cleaned thoroughly with baking soda, vinegar, tea tree oil, and bought an air dryer. I open everything up when I leave and put on an electric fan. When it is closed up it starts to smell musty again.
    Any suggestions?

    • @therealjr9175
      @therealjr9175 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have to find the source of the mold and eliminate it. If you have never checked your silicon sealant on the RV find a credible rv dealership to do a pressure leak test on the RV. Make sure that water is not coming in from somewhere else. Another thing you can do if you are sure that water is not coming in is roof vent covers. I recommend the MaxAirII, we have a video on the different types. Installing them will allow air to circulate in your RV while it is sitting without rain coming in the roof vent

    • @KeystoneRVCenter
      @KeystoneRVCenter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It shouldn't make a grinding noise, it should be a "clicking" or "ratcheting" sound. You do need to let go of the button as soon as you hear it, what you're hearing is the ram reaching the end of it's stroke and the gear "ratcheting" to prevent it from stripping out and continuing to attempt to push the slide room further than the stop allows. If it is in fact a grinding sound you should have it checked out.
