I have a single plug outlet that stopped working without a breaker being tripped. Could this be a fuse issue on an outlet? GFI did not blow either just the one outlet. Checked fuses and none are blown. Maybe a bad outlet?? thanks!

I have the exact same 5th wheel toy hauler but with the Forest River name on it. Great tip on beefing up the suspension with that extra plate, it’s on my to do list for this weekend. Inspect the welds very carefully where that suspension hanger is welded to the frame, mine were cracked at the welds attaching them to the frame and ready to break off. I bought 3 eight foot pieces of 1.5” DOM tube like they use for roll cages at Summit Racing ($23 each), drilled a 1.5” hole through the frame just above each suspension support, cut the tube so about 1” sticks out the hole on each side of the frame, the full length of tube running all the way across, then welded all the way around (just like GM does on their 1 ton truck frames). Then I took some 1/4” plate steel and welded like a small truss from the bottom of the DOM down at 90 degrees to the side of those suspension support brackets. It’s solid now, the thought of what would have happened had I not caught those broken welds was terrifying.
When you first buy your RV; BEFORE you put your stuff in it, it is a good idea to find all the access panels. Some of these might just be a small cover over a hole that would allow a person to see the wires or plumbing. Very often there will be in line fuses; if there is a fuse, you can tape a replacement fuse of the right size and type to the inside of the panel door so you will have the fuse you need handy if it blows. Then all you have to do is REMEMBER where the access panel is - LOL
That is a fantastic idea.
One thing you could do is look behind the power distribution panel and see if the ground(s) wire(s) are bunched up together into one, using a wire nut. It seems most rvs are wired this way. That's asking for disaster down the road. Go purchase a ground block and do it the right way. Its not difficult. That way each wire has it's own hold down and better connection. Prevent problems down the road.

Thanks for the walk through. Depending upon your RV the 12V fuse panel will have LED light next to each fuse. If it lights up the fuse is blown. Always good to keep a full set of fuses.

On the RV door we happened to see a new window and frame that exactly replaces the old window and it has a built in shade ... mama really loves it and the black frame looks spiffy too.... :) All good tips.
Great info for an RV noob! Thank you! Love your description of electrical issues as a game of "guess who." I was a 31J10 Teletype repair tech in the Army and it always felt like I was guessing, jiggling. to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it. The hang up, for me, was that you have to fiddle with things to diagnose or fix issues. It really was trial by error!
Along with tired & wheel bearings, that’s the ideal time to do a good brake shoe inspection or replacement.

Cool video. Times are always better when you can fix your stuff and continue with the adventures. It's not rocket science and can be fun or at least entertaining.
I know this is old, but I have to give approval for the Morryde 3300. Rig had only 4000 miles, but cheap mfg components showed wear. Wet bolts, bronze sleeves and huge shackles make a big diff.

Really good video. My only tip would be to use soapy water on any gas connections you touch after you retighten everything. If there is a leak it will bubble.
What I've found effective for sealing window leaks is to thin silicone with Toluene and brush it into the seams. Gets below the surface. Then a typical bead over top to finish it off.

A leaky/failed propane regulator was one of the first problems I had. Also, I STRONGLY recommend getting a "T" adapter, so you can hook up portable external propane tanks. Having to move your RV, or pay absurd amounts for delivery sucks, when you can far more easily swap or refill tanks any time you're out shopping.
Excellent info Jared. My biggest concern is my slide-out. Its a cable driven system and would hate it if the cable snapped or become entangled with itself somehow or another. One thing that I have prepared for in that case is using some lengths of lumber to hold it in place inside the trailer, but trying to get the slide itself back in...I do have some big friends.

For the wheels a greasing them, you can replace that cap on the hub with one that has a grease fitting in them. They have a cover that goes over that to keep the dirt out. Then all you need is a grease gun to add grease every so often. And with those fuses, you have to pay attention as to whether they are fast blow or slow blow fuses. Slow blow fuses have a delay before they actually blow. They are meant for circuits that sometimes has a surge such as when a high power motor starts.

Those push on fitting are ok for pex but not all RVs are ONLY pex pipe. Mine for example has nylon reinforced hose combined with pex. So I have a stainless steel clamp pliers with a verity of different sized clamps. Don't forget to test your propane line work for leaks with soapy water. Great reminder on wheel bearing, might want to get inner wheel seals prior to tearing it apart. Good plug of Mark & Trish. To check your power it's real easy to get a simple AC wall outlet circuit tester. A lot of good info. Nice job.

Great info. On the 120 V side you should mention GFI's stopping current.
Yep usual symptoms include half of power outlets stop working. GFCI usually located on outlet in kitchen or bathroom.

Nice common sense approach to some basic issues. I would like to add to this the heart of your water system when not connected to water is your pump. The shurflo pumps they use now days only last for about 2 years tops. The internal check valves seem to fail and the symptom will be your fresh water tank fills up and overflows when connected to a water supply. I've seen this issue happen on 2 separate RVs. The fix is replacing or rebuilding the pump head.
Lovin' Livin' RV'in Yep my pump is currently only building air pressure in the lines.
Might I suggest you touch the axle hub every trip after a mile or two. If one side is too warm, fix it right away. Bearings are cheap, compared to a roadside repair shop, and don't forget to inspect and pack the inner bearings, as well, when doing routine maintenance. Good advice all round. Thanks for posting.

We were on a trip through the USA and had a shear pin fail on our slide.
We stopped into RV World for information and repair. They were not only misleading but also unknowable on the matter. I will never darken their doorstep again.
In the end I figured it out on my own and fixed it for .55 cents and a 20 minute job.
Now I carry a spare shear pin. It is also important to know that some slides will not stay closed on the highway if the shear pin is broken.

For that pex issue when you cut the PEX line, must have a square cut had a unit come into the shop where rats chewed every water line possible. Used those quick connect fittings and learned real quick those cuts must be perfect to have a good seal.

Got an RC trailer I put a Morryde in. Went from fixing my planes all the time from damage during travel, to no problems. 10/10 that thing.
I believe they make a tool to push back the grip ring inside the PEX push-on fittings/stop valves. Makes it easy to pull the fitting back off.

When upgrading tires to a higher ply rating make sure the wheels and valves are able to hold the added preasure.

Great information. I am not sure if it is still a problem, but sometimes you can smell propane when the tank is getting empty. We had a mid 70's travel trailer that didn't have the auto transfer regulator and when the tank was almost empty we could smell propane and knew that it was time to switch the tanks and get the empty one filled.
We can smell propane also when our tank is almost empty.

One thing to keep in mind on 12 volt fuses. Don't buy cheap fuses. There are some bad fuses out there that won't blow when they are supposed to. Typically the numbers on them are not white. These bad fuses can cause problems if something shirts out and the fuse doesn't blow, like starting a fire.

If a pipe freezes, it usually fails at a low point or destroys the unit it is attached to. My friend never winterized his first camper because he " didn't have time". In the spring, he had to replace every fitting going to the water heater, faucets and pretty much anything attached to the water line. They also had mice build nests everywhere because they left paper products in their camper.

Your intro is precisely why many don't want an RV. They don't want another house or car to maintain; those things are requirements in life but an RV is indeed discretionary (to the weekend warrior types at least).

I carry a propane regulator and a front Jack motor for the 5th wheel. also lots of fuses and a resettable/heat activated auto fuse. Also some light outlets have reverse polarity, LED lights may not work.
I think that one of the most annoying things to fix are those day/night shades where the strings are broken and they won’t go up properly. Kinda like the one over your right shoulder.........😁

Great video, I just retired and am doing my research to help me buy a motorhome to travel full time. My initial research has made me a little nervous about slide outs and all their inherent issues, have you done a video on them? Are they dangerous in an accident, high maintenance and expensive to repair, prone to leaking and causing hidden damage? I'm fairly handy and plan on doing most of my own work with tools I can carry with me. Thanks in advance.
A roll of quality electrical tape is great for quick temporary leak repairs of sidewall penetrations.

I have a newmar mountain Aire that burnt inside badly , repairing it myself but I have 4 large wires/cables that did run from the large relay / fuse box under the hood to the back where the electrical panel/converter was ( all melted to nothing ) 2 wihites are grounded to body and the 2 reds go to resettable fuses and then go to a relay .
Can you help me to determine Where the two reds go

Great tips. I just bought a 98 fleetwood flair with 60 miles. Would you drive it far if everything checks out? I’m about to have a mechanic go through it.
What advice do you have when sealing entails rubber roof at sidewall aluminum weather strip seal. Noticing thin slits where it seems rubber roof separating from the aluminum seal structure. dicor would seem to level/run too much. Is ProFlexRV sealant ok to run a bead to seal the aluminum to rubber roof joint? Otherwise, just want to thank you immensely for all the RV intel you put out. So helpful!
Hi. I have solar but not getting the best use whilst connecting to mains. What is the best way to switch off or disconnect the charger to the batteries? Whilst connected to the mains power. I have a 2018 rockwood ultra light.
