    Great build. I often find some of the older kits with horrible flash, and fit issues and such, are often more rewarding once you finish them than some of the modern kits with flawless engineering that just fall together.

    I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video Alex. That was a very interesting build. I have been an armor guy all my model building career, but do like to see a good ship built every now and then. This one was it. Thanks for sharing that.

    Hi Alex, It's been a while my dear friend. Although I haven't commented, I have been watching your many video's. I felt I really needed to commented how these older sailing ships are truly works of art. Thanks for building and sharing these. I think you will be responsible for many of these being bought, painted and weathered as you so demonstrated. Alex, your skills have become amazing over the past few years and to think you actually were considering giving up this hobby! I think all that saw this buildup would agree that would have been a tragedy as this video clearly demonstrates. I hope my calls for you to continue making your art had perhaps a little something to do with your continuing to make these video's and sharing them with all on TH-cam. Thanks my friend, this one is another winner !!!

      Does anyone have any insights into the usual, (if there was a usual), color to the bulkwards of their ships.
      The red that was used is the well known British paint Color.
      The USS Constitution was known to have had green as its first iteration.
      Could be an interesting bit of minutiae.
      Nice build, though.

    Great to see the whole process of your build after following it on Facebook. I did need a wee toilet break and snack refill in the middle, hehe. I like the way you did the hull halves seperatly. That is a good trick I will use on mine. Lovely result and a joy to watch.

    A nother great video! I thought the Acheron was red.... well I say red but I mean more of a maroon color. I have nothing other than Masters and Commanders to go by though. Great build! Don't be sorry for the long videos, it's very cool for us to be able to have time enough to immerse ourselves into the work.

    • @peterbellwood5412
      @peterbellwood5412 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always thought that fully-rigged ship models look , I don't know , more realistic ? Definitely when it's on a stand or in a cabinet . There's no 'breeze' to billow the sails ! So , either open-rigged or furlled sails for me . Unless , that is, someone ASKS me to add the sails to the model I've just built for them .

    Beautiful job it's almost like that thing had models within models with those lifeboats lol. I'm just now getting into doing ships I'm on my first one it's called a cuddyshark 1350 scale I have to come up with some ideas for the rigging because they don't really give you anchor points and I don't want to just glue string to the deck I've got some ideas from some other videos so far so good though my next one will be a lot better

    Great work Alex, especially on the deck weathering.
    May i suggest leaving the ratlines till you've done the standing rigging to give you more room to manoeuvre, as well as working one mast at a time then doing ratlines for that particular mast, working bow to stern and inside to out, it worked a treat for me when I done my Revell 1:96 English Man O'war.

    You were probably mixing up the shrouds (the vertical ropes supporting the mast ) with the ratlines (the horizontal ropes used by the sailors to climb up to the yards). Since ropes strech, the ratlines sagged a bit, so the horizontal lines should have a droop in them and not be straight.

    • @peterbellwood5412
      @peterbellwood5412 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try and find as much information on the model you are planning to rig . Even the kit instruction should have at least some of the main ones . If the model is like Alex's and supplies rigging cord in different colours , that's a real help . If the model is new'ish' and only supplies diagrammes , you should be able to 'break-up' the work by if necessary , writing or taping a small-piece with an arrow pointing to where it goes . If it is a much older kit , that's great because it will describe the colour and use of the rope required for a particular line . I've found it much simpler to concentrate on one at a time . Actually , it isn't too difficult to add the rigging just as the real ship was rigged . There are 2 different main types involved . The first is the 'standing' rigging and just 'stands' . It is used to make the masts rigid , holding the shape correctly . The other one is 'running' rigging and has a totally different use . These are the ones used by the crew to alter the sail angles and size to make use of the winds . Then , when the sails are not required , ropes are used to 'furl' or gather-up to the yard-arms , the pieces that are attached horizontally to the mast . Most plastic kits I've built , include the 'ratlines' . These are the triangular pieces that go from the sides to the yard-arms . They are usually not very realistic but are fine for now while you are starting . The upright part is fine being straight , because the real thing has to be . However the pieces going across are the 'steps' so quickly sag . Some kits provide more realistic ratlines that sag . Take it step by step . Look out for model ship magazines that may include a diagramme of what you are aiming for. Try and look out for some cheap but extremelly useful locking tweezers and haemostats ( fine-nosed locking pliers ) Being narrow , they are useful for carrying or pushing the end of a rope through the ones' you've already done . There are some beautiful small sailing ships available in kit form , and being smaller requires less rigging . Heller have made several that I can think of . Have a look . Clear some space , put some cool music on and enjoy . If you get stuck (🙄) put it to one side and leave it till you're ready again . All the best . Pete

    Cool build. Just a few things I would have done differently. The sails would have done a bit more yellow and the pershade a brown. The cannons would have done bronze and I'm not real sure but might have separated the cannons from the mount/cart (for top deck only) but definitely would have removed the material between the wheels (don't know why they molded them that way). And I don't think I would have attempted to tie the rat lines from scratch either but good call on straightening them, because they also helped to study the masts and would be very tight. I might try one out after watching this video. Looks like it would be fun.
    Great video, thanks for sharing.

    Just to let you know , the area that you see him trimming and sanding is what we call at least when I was molding model kits and thousands of other plastic parts, a gate which is where plastic is injected into the cavity or part . There is a thing called flash which only would be seen around the parting line or edge of the parts as very paper thin plastic which usually indicates a molding adjustment or the mold is wearing out from a lot of use and the cavities need a new mold base or adjustment to the mold base half’s or a whole new mold .

    Beautifull work, i am planing on building the REVELL Pirate ship which looks like the black pearl, and i am learning some of your technics for building plastic models. What kind of glue you use to fix the rope to plastic please? Thank you.

  • @thomashockin4128

    Do you wash the plastic parts before painting??? Does the releasing oil from the casting interfere with the sticking of the paint???

    • @AlexModeling

    Just watched your video. Great work. What glue do you use on your rigging, plastic cement does not work as well as the product you were using. This particular model was out of stock at Hobbylinc

    Hi Alex. Years ago you did a review of the matchbox bf109 in 1/32. Did you ever build that kit? Would love to see a video, I've never seen one built up. Great build vid btw. I want to do a sailing ship someday. I started the Heller 1/200 cap horn years ago but found out it wasn't a real ship so lost interest in it. Still have it but won't build it.
