Magnificent modeling. I bow to your skill and patience. My uncle was there. He pointed himself out to me in a photo of the event when I was a kid, so Irwin Schmuckler is represented by one of the figures on your diorama. I built him a 1/200 scale model of the Big Mo from a wooden Sterling Models kit (now long out of production). Of course, my model was crude, partially because it was made of wood, and partially because I was 13 in 1966 when I assembled it. If Uncle were alive today, I'd show him your video of your masterpiece. I have the document Uncle received attesting he witnessed MacArthur and Shigemitsu signing the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. The model I built for him and the Document of Witness were two of his most prized possessions. My cousin now owns the model.
Its odd that they don't have a diorama of this in a museum it is a pivotal event in our history and world history my grandfather was there so thank you for doing this reminds me of him and the stories he would tell

MacArthur even made sure that his old, emaciated and yet proud in his uniform, deputy, who'd had to surrender the Phillipines, General Wainwright, was there - to glare at the Japanese diplomats and military men. The US and their Allies made the Surrender Ceremony a Show of Force; there were hordes of ships(with gun-turrets waving hopefully), and there were also Fly-overs of Military aircraft(there was even a force of B-29s, so that "them Japs" would get the message.)

G'day 'S.B.O.', I'm 68 years old; modelling aircraft kits; off and on since age 10. I served in the RAAF so I've concentrated on aircraft. For over 15 years I've been a military historian and, to me, what you've so excellently modelled here is one of the true defining moments of the 20th Century. About 2 years ago I purchased a 1/350 scale kit of the 'Mighty Mo'. It is still in my 'stash'. After seeing your beautifully shot and edited video, I've decided to put that kit up for sale, or I'll give it away to a friend. There's no way I could work through such a big build, on an unfamiliar type of kit, without the certain knowledge I'll never ever come anywhere close to the true work of military art you've created with this, greatly enhanced, 1/200 kit. Your meticulous attention to detail and scale accuracy is gobsmackingly brilliant. I started to watch your video because, for many years, I've been studying one of the participants in that ceremony, Australian General Sir Thomas Albert Blamey who was standing in the front row of national representatives. Blamey was standing behind and just about level with MacArthur's left shoulder, as he stood at the microphone. General Blamey signed the Surrender document on behalf of Australia. It was Blamey who pointed out to the USN 'Document Adjutant' who organised the signees, that one of the representatives had signed on the wrong line. This was typical of Blamey who had been a school teacher in his early 20s and who, even as a General, was a stickler for minute detail; a bit like yourself with your modelling. General Blamey later became Australia's first and only Field Marshal and that, plus his unique life and career was why I've studied him in great detail. As I watched the start of your build and saw you taking the trouble of creating and laying down 'weld marks' on the ship's hull, I knew this was going to be an extra special project. I stayed, transfixed, on my large screen, taking in every second of your outstanding video. For most of the time I watched as my jaw hung open in amazement. I almost had a tear in my eyes by the end. You not only captured the immense importance of this historic event; you stirred within me pure awe that the 'hobby' of scale modelling can be transformed into art. Pardon me but I don't know your name; I'd not seen one of your builds before, I'm guessing you're only about 30 years old, yet in my opinion you are at the same creative level as the world famous aircraft 'scratch modeller', Guillermo Rojas-Bazan, an Argentine who works in sheet metal. Granted, you don't scratch build but you come awfully close. Guillermo began with kits and only scratch built because there was no kit for a Martin B-10 bomber available at the time. I'm certain if you simply couldn't find a kit for a vessel you really wanted to model; you'd be able to scratch build it. You have the skills and the creativity. Thank you so very much, 'S.B.O.' you have shown this 'old dog' that he might be able to learn some new tricks. Due to my poor eyesight and 'stubby' fingers, I gave away 1/72 kits a long time ago. I concentrate on 1/32, 1/24 and larger kits. This means I can try out your 'high-detail' techniques. I'll never be at your level but, thanks to you, I hope to make my models more realistic and more worthwhile to me. I wish there was a "more than just like" button. Seriously - that is insanely amazing and should be in a museum. I can't even comprehend how long it would have taken to paint all those figures let alone everything else. Brilliant work and well worth the time spent

What’s amazing to me is visiting these Ships and seeing everything that went into building them. Every rivet, clamp and bolt. The miles of wire and chain. I could spend hours on one deck. I live in Massachusetts and I have visited the Battle ship Massachusetts every year for the past 35 years. I even slept on board as a Boy Scout. I am 54 now and hope that these floating Museums will always be there. Your attention to detail is just incredible. Thanks for sharing your work.

Hi Studio Blue Ocean!I built this Model too but with no extra stuff,i mean extra metal parts.I took 120 figures 1:200 from Trumpeter on my ship and a little bit rigging.Wonderfull Ship!
I can tell you that according to my dad, BM1 on the USS Boston, which was part of the invasion fleet, the deck was overflowing outside on the orderly divisions from the Missouri. He says that if the camera had had a wider lens, you would have seen him hanging over the deck railing to catch a glimpse of the signing.

Amazed by more than a few things here. First, the perfection of your PE bends. Second, your instant success aligning and gluing parts. Third, working in gloves. Fourth, your understanding when it’s safe to build assemblies knowing they will fit together later (with AM parts included). Fifth, your airbrush abilities. If you live in the U.S, I would seriously pay you for a few lessons.
I have never seen diorama as precise, realistic and inspiring as this one. I strongly suggest that it be publicized as a historical witness to a capital moment in history. I have been a modeler for 50 years and I am pleased to make this comment. This is an extraordinary work, out of the ordinary, congratulations.

As many others have stated here this is a museum worthy diorama. The attention to detail is just mind-boggling. The video itself was very relaxing to watch and inspirational in the end.
This is just Sensational! The model itself, the standards of the detailing, and the breathtaking scope of the project - including all the men in uniform and the functionaries(cameramen, etc.) in place to witness History happening - ALL are simply outstanding. When I was in the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) during RIMPAC 88, myself and 1 of my buddies were lucky enough to be part of an exchange program where we sailed on the USS MISSOURI, for 2 weeks. We loved every second of it. It's not often a person has the honour of serving aboard such an iconic and historic vessel especially those of us from an Allied Navy Beautiful Build! Thank you for sharing
An excellent rendition of the model, having already built the kit myself only using the extra deck and gun barrels kits on the market. It took me 3 months to complete the build. I am in my late 70's and do not have the dexterity to use these extra photo etch kits. and to have managed that level of extra detail in 12 months is extraordinary.
I am 46 minutes in and captivated by your attention to detail. Truly the effort of a passionate individual. Amazing work. Inspiring. I shall take this level of detail and attempt to bring it to my future projects.
That is some amazing modelling, the detail is astounding! I would love to see a similar video, but with the HMS Hood, either an interwar showing the flag or a diorama of the Battle of the Denmark Strait.
I sat here and watched in one sitting. Can you imagine the joy finding out that the war was ending? Also, I gotta say that one of the nicest touches on this model is the water pouring out the side. Remarkable job to say the least.
Absolutely amazing build, incredible!!! Sorry to say but this one out shines the diorama, of the same subject, at the Tamiya headquarters in Shizuoka Japan and that one was pretty awesome.
This endeavor looks to be soooo expensive: the huge model itself, the PE extras, all the self-made 3-D printed items & Sailors, the water works & diorama stuff, etc etc. The patience you have far exceeds mine! It turned out museum-quality though. Nice job!

What is there to say, but......Outstanding! As Indiana Jones would say, this belongs in a museum. Great artistry, attention to detail, meticulous craftmanship!
Blown away by every successive detail! Just when I’m amazed by the detail of one aspect, you go on to top it again and again! Having flowing water coming out of the ship is what elevates this into a league of its own, in my opinion. During the surrender, the turrets were positioned to aim into Tokyo Bay, for both intimidation and in case they refused to surrender. It doesn’t seem like much with all the extreme detail of everything, but the fact that the turrets were positioned correctly is what truly made this piece for me! Capturing the historical details is just as important as the skill of the artwork, and you nailed both perfectly! On a personal note, I have a lot of love and respect for this ship. While I was stationed on a submarine in Pearl Harbor, I earned my volunteer ribbon by volunteering every weekend I could on this ship! To be able to work on a living peace of history was a great honor to me. You did such an incredible job that I could easily see this being on the ship itself, to show visitors what the scene and ship looked like at that precise moment in time!

The most beautiful Missouri model I have ever seen. My only comment was the main battery blast bags. I know there aren’t to many options out there, but I don’t think they matched the level of detail. Magic sculpt is a good way to do it! Absolutely amazing job!

Great work. As I watched your painstakingly assembly, it made me think about all the work that went into building the actual ship it is modeled after. Built in Brooklyn, in just six months, half the time your model required.
I’ve seen great dioramas and models, but this by far is the best I’ve ever seen. I watched the entire video and once it’s done It actually puts you in the moment
Amazing to watch ,as a toolmaker of thirty five years. I was always told to pay attention to detail . This is love what you do and it shows through . Very proud of this and the dedication you have shows in every aspect of this massive project . I made a model of the USS Missouri off a Revell kit when I was about 12, 58 years ago! This brings back memories of that. Not even in the wildest stretch of imagination am I implying any sort of comparison whatsoever! Just reminscing. I commend your fabulous work, fabulous effort and fabulous love and passion for your craft.
I just finished listening to the audiobook ‘The Admirals’ about admirals King, Halsey, Nimitz and Leahy. Due to their determination and leadership skills, the Pacific war was won, and the book ends with Japan’s capitulation on this ship. Your video came at the right moment for me! Thank you for the painstaking attention to detail and for making the video of the building process.

Just WOW! Fun fact: The American flag on the wall near the desk is the flag that was flying on Commodore Perry's flagship in 1853 when he went to Japan to get Japan to open trade with the US. McArthur, who was a relative of Perry, wanted it there for the signing.
This is an idea I had thought about when I was a child, but the only character model with different personality swing positions dozens of kinds and model warship ratios matched very hard. That's great. 👍😎

As an AE-4 I agree with you. Was on CV-34 on WestPac . Saw New Jersey in action. I was shocked at the level of detail he went to. I knew what he was building before he completed.

the level of detail is insane, the soldiers alone had to have taken nearly a hundred hours to paint alone

Amazed by more than a few things here. First, the perfection of your PE bends. Second, your instant success aligning and gluing parts. Third, working in gloves. Fourth, your understanding when it’s safe to build assemblies knowing they will fit together later (with AM parts included). Fifth, your airbrush abilities. If you live in the U.S, I would seriously pay you for a few lessons.

As many others have stated here this is a museum worthy diorama. The attention to detail is just mind-boggling. The video itself was very relaxing to watch and inspirational in the end.

The model itself, the standards of the detailing, and the breathtaking scope of the project - including all the men in uniform and the functionaries(cameramen, etc.) in place to witness History happening - ALL are simply outstanding. When I was in the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) during RIMPAC 88, myself and 1 of my buddies were lucky enough to be part of an exchange program where we sailed on the USS MISSOURI, for 2 weeks. We loved every second of it. It's not often a person has the honour of serving aboard such an iconic and historic vessel especially those of us from an Allied Navy

An excellent rendition of the model, having already built the kit myself only using the extra deck and gun barrels kits on the market. It took me 3 months to complete the build. I am in my late 70's and do not have the dexterity to use these extra photo etch kits. and to have managed that level of extra detail in 12 months is extraordinary.
I am 46 minutes in and captivated by your attention to detail. Truly the effort of a passionate individual. Amazing work. Inspiring.
I shall take this level of detail and attempt to bring it to my future projects.

That is some amazing modelling, the detail is astounding! I would love to see a similar video, but with the HMS Hood, either an interwar showing the flag or a diorama of the Battle of the Denmark Strait.
I sat here and watched in one sitting. Can you imagine the joy finding out that the war was ending? Also, I gotta say that one of the nicest touches on this model is the water pouring out the side. Remarkable job to say the least.

Blown away by every successive detail! Just when I’m amazed by the detail of one aspect, you go on to top it again and again! Having flowing water coming out of the ship is what elevates this into a league of its own, in my opinion. During the surrender, the turrets were positioned to aim into Tokyo Bay, for both intimidation and in case they refused to surrender. It doesn’t seem like much with all the extreme detail of everything, but the fact that the turrets were positioned correctly is what truly made this piece for me! Capturing the historical details is just as important as the skill of the artwork, and you nailed both perfectly! On a personal note, I have a lot of love and respect for this ship. While I was stationed on a submarine in Pearl Harbor, I earned my volunteer ribbon by volunteering every weekend I could on this ship! To be able to work on a living peace of history was a great honor to me. You did such an incredible job that I could easily see this being on the ship itself, to show visitors what the scene and ship looked like at that precise moment in time!

The most beautiful Missouri model I have ever seen. My only comment was the main battery blast bags. I know there aren’t to many options out there, but I don’t think they matched the level of detail. Magic sculpt is a good way to do it! Absolutely amazing job!

Great work. As I watched your painstakingly assembly, it made me think about all the work that went into building the actual ship it is modeled after. Built in Brooklyn, in just six months, half the time your model required.
I’ve seen great dioramas and models, but this by far is the best I’ve ever seen. I watched the entire video and once it’s done It actually puts you in the moment

I made a model of the USS Missouri off a Revell kit when I was about 12, 58 years ago! This brings back memories of that. Not even in the wildest stretch of imagination am I implying any sort of comparison whatsoever! Just reminscing.

I just finished listening to the audiobook ‘The Admirals’ about admirals King, Halsey, Nimitz and Leahy. Due to their determination and leadership skills, the Pacific war was won, and the book ends with Japan’s capitulation on this ship. Your video came at the right moment for me!

Fun fact: The American flag on the wall near the desk is the flag that was flying on Commodore Perry's flagship in 1853 when he went to Japan to get Japan to open trade with the US. McArthur, who was a relative of Perry, wanted it there for the signing.

The only reason the USS Missouri was chosen as the surrender site was because President Truman was from Missouri.
It really should have been the Enterprise but she was damaged earlier and was being repaired.

As an AE-4 I agree with you. Was on CV-34 on WestPac . Saw New Jersey in action. I was shocked at the level of detail he went to. I knew what he was building before he completed.
