    Nice, I love the old XR250R. I have a '99 model that I bought new and still ride it a lot, but off road only. I have a DR650 as my street bike. Anyway, the old XR's are getting hard to find, guys at the off road parks always ask if I will sell mine, and I say no way buddy! One of the very best dirt bikes ever made, in my opinion. XR250R is a truly great bike!

      Trevor Jameson Absolutely. A really shame that they no longer make the xr250r or 400r. I know I'd buy one!

      I just bought a 96 XR250R in Canada. Needs a bit of work on the suspension and brakes but got it for a steal. Looking forward to getting out on the trails.

    Good job man. I also have a 2004 xr250 that I have done lots of mods to if you would like to check it out

    Nice bike man but it’s pronounced a-chair-bees not a-sir-bis

      @premixpeter1972  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found that out and started pronouncing it that way a few years ago.

    Did you install the battery by your self? and can you show me to how to install it , currently i used 1993 Honda xlr 250r.

      I just picked up a 12 volt battery from my local hardware store and connected it to the tusk brand dual sport kit (turn signals and tail light) via connectors that can be plugged in and unplugged. I then used self adhesive velcro strip to make it so that I can take the battery on and off the bike easily. The battery is NOT connected to the stator and thus has to be charged by a battery tender every now and then.

      why you don't connect it to stator?

    • @premixpeter1972

      I didn't do enough on road riding to bother, plus the stator was making just enough power to run the upgraded headlight and couldn't support a battery.

    isn't there somewhere on the bike you can put the battery other than on top of the rear fender?

    • @premixpeter1972
      @premixpeter1972  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. If you use a very small battery, or if you modify the airbox you can mount the battery under the seat on top of or in the airbox.

      Thanks man! Yeah she was a beaut. When it comes to bikes I've been told that I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Some of the best memories in my life are from riding on that bike.

      I am the same perfectionist like you are ;-) every little unimportant bit matters to me. So you sold it? what do you ride now?

    • @premixpeter1972
      @premixpeter1972  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sold it to my brother as I needed money for college. So I still get to see it. I now ride a Year 2000 Suzuki DRZ400S that I am currently modifying.

      aircooled ADV Oh I see. Good that you still get to see it around. I love the DRZ for its power and looks but the XR is something that has proved to be stone reliable to me on many of my adventures

    Hey man how much did it cost to rebuild that rear shock

    • @premixpeter1972
      @premixpeter1972  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About $40 in parts and oil. I didn't heavily change up the valving or internal components, just replaced worn out/damaged parts (i.e.: the leaky seal head) and the oil. Took me a few hours to do. I actually ended up buying a rear shock off of eBay for about $129 that was off of an xr400r and putting it in this bike.

      Checked out some of your vids, that's a nice bike! Where do you live? I noticed it has the modernized plastics that we never got here in the U.S. on XRs.

      +aircooled ADV I live in Australia. It's a Japanese import so it has the tank plastics and electric start and some other things. I've done a lot of work to make it go as well as it does now. Your bike looks really good too.

      Cool man! Yeah my brother now owns that bike as I'm in college and tuition isn't cheap! I was bike less for a while but I just got a '98 DR200SE. Man I think it would be awesome to live in Australia! Except for your gun laws...

    • @haydenfrench7878
      @haydenfrench7878 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aircooled ADV yeah fair enough. I love it here and don't mind the gun laws because there a very few people that die from them. I hope your brother treats the bike as good as you did haha

      Haha I wish he did! Nearly put a hole in the case yesterday out riding. That's the beauty of the xr though...tough as nails!
