    Gotta do the pv shim mod. Free to do and reversible. Gets on the pipe alot sooner and gets rid of the terrible flat spot on top. I had my head cut too helps with jetting and a little more bottom end

    I would recommend having the head redesigned and recut. My squish was over .110" and is now .042" It was 3x the gain of a pipe for 1/3 the cost. Plus, the gain was from low to high. Both my pipes, a fmf and dep, cost low end, which is why I run my stock pipe, Pv mod and the recut head.
    If you ever get the chance, try a jd red needle on clip 2.

    The reason I went with the carbon fiber pipe gaurd is because it offers good protection, and while it will brake and can dent my pipe, it will not bend or break exhaust flange on motor, so you want a little give. Pipes are cheap compared to the engine

    nice upgrades man for the rider. sounds like you know some tips buy expierence not just someone who get all the coolest stuff. I too have a 250x . I raised the 14 tooth in the front tooth to a 15 to make it smoother. I like your ktm rubberized pipe conntecor swap over, Im gonna have to do that.I really want to run a shorty pipe and make some kind of screen for it so it can be forrest approved. I have got a lectron carb, and man that thing is so good. I promise i can jet really good, but for whatever reason I decided to try it i guess because everyone was talking about it, and man you talk about really sweet. Thanks for the comment man! Good to hear that the lectron is so awesome, I've been holding off on one for money reasons but with all of the changes in elevation I ride it would be so nice to have one! and yeah it ould be great to make a shorty with a spark arrestor in it somehow, the turbine core and/or pro circuit type 296 are definitely not the best for weight reduction or performance. And I'm glad I gave you some ideas on how to mod/improve your X. It's a small thing, but that pipe gasket is a big improvement IMO. Bike has at least 85 hours on it now and still no leakage at all!

    LOL Some times it counts backwards so i don't know the hours. That's awesome. The main complaints about carbon fiber pipe guards for me is that they look so ugly after they get hit a few times ,and also they transfer energy to the exhaust flange. Pipe protections is awesome, though. I like flag handguards because they give way instead of throw you on the ground when you hit something. They have protected my hands against some pretty crazy hits. That rear tire is looking fresh!

    Very intelligent info, thanks. I have ridden them (yz250 & yz250x) several times, the absence of the magic button and a lower first gear is a deal breaker for me. If I did get one, I would opt for the yz250 with following mods: 18" rear wheel, kick stand, fatty pipe, eric gore porting, and of course the Lectron. By the time I get a yz setup the way I want it, I could just purchase a Beta and add a Lectron, otherwise I would yz250 setup for woods sitting in my shop. Rode the x, didn't like the power band, too muted.

    • @premixpeter1972

      The YZ250X is definitely a compromise bike as far as set up and price goes. I really like mine as a jack of all trades, but I will admit that when riding the really technical terrain I find myself wanting the e-start and crawler gear!

      What is wrong with the keihin?

    • @brianmorrison9066
      @brianmorrison9066 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lectron has been around since the 70s while the pwk was designed +20 years later. I was asking because everyone I have talked to that says a lectron transformed their bike overnight has never tried jetting the keihin. Those that have a correctly jetted keihin nearly always prefer it over the lectron. Was your keihin correctly jetted? Did you have any spooge with the keihin? How about now with the lectron?

    • @brianmorrison9066
      @brianmorrison9066 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wont troll you. Instead of asking what is wrong with the keihin I should have asked what you like about the lectron over the keihin. Thanks man! As it was in this video I think I'd put about $750 dollars worth of performance/protective parts on the bike. After selling the arts that some of them replaced though on craigslist and eBay (for example the oem silencer, pipe, fork guards, etc.) I was only out about $400.
      As far as the mods and who put them on, I bought the bike box stock and completely unmoved so everything on it I put there. The dealership didn't put ANY premix in the gas and proceeded to "break in" the motor on straight 87 pump gas and consequently roasted the top end. So I had to replace the cylinder and piston, still running the stock crank as they're much more resistant to running without oil. Over 80 hours in and so far so good!

    • @premixpeter1972
      @premixpeter1972  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really like both, but they're surprisingly different for both being 250 2 strokes. The Honda was significantly more powerful. It had a torquey bottom that transitioned to a super strong mid range hit but not much over-rev. Keep in mind that my CR had the head cut, vforce 3 reeds, and a full FMF system while the YZ just has the FMF system. Frame and Ergos wise the CR feels significantly larger than the YZ. At high speeds this was nice as it felt more stable, but the slower and more technical it got the more the YZ's tight egos and flickable feel were an advantage. The suspension on both is pretty excellent, but the YZ's SSS really shines on unpredictable high speed chop that you find out in the desert. I guess what I'm saying is that while initially the CR is more exciting to ride, the YZ is definitely the more well rounded bike for riding a variety of different terrain. Truthfully if I was an mx only rider I'd have to give it to the CR, but for what I ride the YZ is the superior bike.

      I'm in the Boise area, but if I'm ever over by Pocatello or if you're ever in Boise we will have to!

    I would take that inline fuel filter out. It could cause engine failure.

      I ended up taking it out when I put in the oversized tank. How would it cause engine failure?

      I would say it may filter oil out of gas and lean out your mixture or the element could clog your carb up. Either way you have a filter in the fuel petcock on your tank built in. You can always ad a mesh filter where your fuel cap is that works well.

      I don't know about engine failure. But ide say it was upside down. Flip it the other way and you will be able to see if stuff is collecting in it. ( Kinda the point of clear filter) Rather than the perforated cone filling from the inside were you can not see it. It would probably clogg much quicker with that orientation as well.

    It may work and be cost effective, but to me, all that black plastic is not appealing to the eye.

      To each their own, personally I like it (but mainly just like how it doesn't show dirt and scratches as much) but I can also see how it would look better to have the classic blue and white.

    What fuel oil mix ratio are you using?

      I used to run (at the time of this video) either Motul 800 or Maxima K2 (both high-flashpoint, high viscosity, ester based synthetics) at 36-40:1. I've since switched to Honda HP2 (a LOW flashpoint, high viscosity polybutane based fully synthetic) at 32-36:1. I did this because the Honda leaves significantly less sponge and seems to still offer great protection. It's also cheaper.
