Gabriel hates Lucifer with a fuckin passion maybe because they are cut from the same mold. In storyline. Which makes a blind spot because they are so similar he thinks they have the same boundaries. They do not. Lucifer definitely wants to burn heaven and kill You Know Who
I've always thought that the first three Prophecy movies (the last two don't really connect, IMHO) were really Gabriel's story. In the end he comes to see that everything has it's place in the world, and that the importance of the angels isn't truly diminished by the role of humans.
He is the only one with a true character arc through all those movies. He goes from Villain to disgraced to sympathetic to truly redeemed. He is the pin that holds those movies together. Lovely
Went from constantly appearing and Vanishing in a flock of black birds as he turned his Grace's from God in the first two films, to vanishing in purely light like birds after returning to the grace of God. Freaking awesome story arch for a character.
Angels can not return to grace... When he calls Daniel "The Word"...he is in essence calling him Jesus. And for all the flash and dash bullshit, they do tell you some small truths.

The trilogy is, in the words of the ones who WROTE the movies: "Gabriel's fall and redemption in the eyes of God, and his renewal of faith in God's Word". He did lose his grace at the end of the first movie when Lucifer brought him to Hell. And he lost his mark as well, which can clearly be seen in the second and third movie, until he got his grace back from God when the mark is back. Chrstopher Walken also has stated much of the same, but what do we know, right? It's a fictional trilogy about an army of beings we know nothing about except small tidbits in a work of fiction (the Bible). What angels can and cannot do, what they lose and can regain, who knows? We know nothing about it. But in this particular universe where the movies takes place, they can regain their grace with a renewal of faith in the Word of God. I recommend you watch the entire trilogy again and pay attention this time.
I love seeing Gabriels interactions with people compared to how he treated them in the past movies. He treated them like houseplants, and heeded their lives very little, but here he's smiling, and really coming to understand the joy of life. How he grins and jokes with the detective, actually engaging with him, and complimenting him for doing well.

I personally think the best part in this movie was when he was with the injured Maggie and held her hand. That was such a sweet moment. And shows how far the character had come
I love the Prophecy Gabriel trilogy. The films were really about him, and his fall from grace. The ending really captures Gabriel's enlightenment. "Finally, after a Gazillion Years. I get to find out what the Message is." Even for a powerful Angel such as Gabriel, he wasn't the one chosen to fight Pyriel. One has to Wonder is Lucifer ever fought Pyriel.
They say "Dont judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes" I giess Gabriel after many milenia of seeing mankind as inferior and benoef him, it took becoming one of us to realise that life as a slave is painful and uncertain.

Kinda also makes the new Star Wars trilogy amateur hour in comparison.

When I first saw Sparky I thought it was going to be a typical snarlfest where they build up the main character by "owning" people. Instead it became a conversation that I wanted to go on. So snappy and friendly.
Why do the angels even try? They know God is real thus his Word is too. The Word states Lucifer and and all fallen angels will be thrown in to a lake of fire. It seems kind of hopeless for them
this is good question, though. They didn't know prophecy and future I believe as this one is not written for sure - all could be changed. When fallen one sinned by his will and rest went after him - they lost contact with God Father and become blinded for the true - they are lost in this choice forever. This believe is cause.
A) atleast in the first movie god COULDN'T intervene B) I don't think that angels met god personally C) if god is omnipotent then he won't intervene as it would create an inbalance but i dunno then again it can be assumed that if they know god and still fight him that god is either 1) god is cruel and they have to atleast try or die trying 2) they know that they can win or 3) they simply have to prove a point that god is evil so that everyone would see.
