  • The Honda CB400 Four Super Sport is a tiny 4-cylinder motorcycle with an unusual, beautiful 4-in-1 exhaust system and a racer-like look, which was manufactured from 1975 until 1977.
Even one of the hosts of Top Gear and The Grand Tour, James May aka Captain Slow, could not resist buying one, when he read in the British motorcycle magazine Classic Bike that a UK-based company, David Silver Spares, was restaurating around 50 bikes of this model in 2012. Since Honda produced more than 100,000 units of this model, there are still many around... If you own one, please kindly leave a comment below.
You can download the articles mentioned in this video as well as a lot of other cool stuff about the restauration project on the website of David Silver at:
    www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/A...
The bike shown in this video was first registered in Germany in 1978. It was built in 1975, but has the looks of the 1977 model in Parakeet Yellow. You can find some photos about the restauration process on this bike, the final result as well as a collectors brochure, that contains a similar photo of a CB400F at:
    www.youngtimerbikes.de/forum/...
    Further photos are available at:
    www.wilderzueden.de/galerie/v...
If you like the Honda CB400F Super Sport and the other classic Honda CB models, e.g. the CB750 Four, CB550 Four, CB500 Four, CB350 Four, do us a favour and join the Squad by subscribing to the channel, hitting the thumbs up button and/or leaving a comment below.
As always, thanks a lot to Peter for borrowing me the bike, riding with me and all the other help during production of this video.
Everyone - Thanks for watching, ride safely & have a fantastic weekend!!

I have a 400four in my garage and it is by far my favourite motorcycle. It’s just so chuckable and such fun at sensible speeds. Plus you just feel cool on it and being yellow people really notice the tank and the 4-1 exhaust and instantly know what it is… they point at it and do the exhaust shape with their hands to their friends saying “look there’s a 400 four”.
When I bought it back in a van I opened the back door to check the straps were still tip top… and within 20 seconds it had drawn a crowd… that’s when I really knew the popularity of these bikes first hand. Everyone seems to love them.

Hi i'm from the UK And i had a 400 Four in the 80s in yellow that i got second hand from an add in the local new's paper. It was not show room condition but well looked after. The bike was stolen after about three years of ownership but cut a long storey short i got it back but it never ran the same so i sold it to a chap that alway's wanted the bike if i was to sell it. Looking back i am in my 60 now and out of all the bike's i have had over the years this was the best bike i ever owned. i still ride today! A GSXR 750 And a 250cc twist and go to nip to the shops on. But if i was young now and had the chance of a new 400 Four i would be camping out side of the shop waiting for it to open. And thank you for making the video.

Hi Alan, you're welcome 👍👍!! Thanks a lot for your comment, I really appreciate it 💚!! The story of your 400F makes me a bit sad, since I wish your bike had never been stolen and you would still be able to ride it today. Anyways, the fact that you own a GSXR 750 and a 250cc in your 60s shows how much you love riding on two wheels and I absolutely believe that you'd be camping out in front of the store, if there was a chance to purchase a CB400F Supersport today. I would consider doing the same 😉😊 Have a great week, much respect, ride safely & best regards to the UK

@@KICKSTARTMotorcycleSquad I was 16 and looking forward to getting my drivers license the following year. Of course there was no way my mom would ever let me get a bike. My parents were divorced so I got my first exposure to bikes from my dad. I finally purchased my first bike 8 yrs later in 1984 when I got married and moved out of my moms house. I didn't tell my mom until years later. It was a 1984 Yamaha RZ350 Kenny Roberts edition, yellow and black. A 2 stroke parallel twin street bike..It was very light and nimble and a rocket ship for a 350cc engine of the time. I modded it with expansion chambers, carb jetting , reeds, porting and sticky tires etc. Not much power below 6000 rpm but when you hit that magic number the front wheel left the ground and it screamed like a hive of angry bees till the 10,000 red line. Loads of fun !

Once everything came out both boys, my uncle and my dad, were scolded thoroughly - I guess, but that did not stop my father from riding for many years to come. in 1982 my dad purchased the Z1000ST that you can see in one of our videos on our channel (th-cam.com/video/O70XY2Y5h3c/w-d-xo.html) while his wife was in hospital giving birth to their first child, a daughter who is my older sister... In the USA there were only two color choices for the 1975 model year, red and blue. In 1976 the yellow model was added to the lineup and the side covers were black. By 1977 the stripe on the gas tank was added along with other changes such as higher handlebars, etc. The nice thing is that most of these parts are interchangeable between model years.

Excuse me sir, but you're mistaken, it is of the 1977 year. I am an owner of a beautiful 1975 Honda CB400F> S/S,,,, I've owned it since it was 7 years old.......since, '82, it's all stock looking,,, I've installed electronic ignition, and added a chrome plastic stripe around the very edge of the gas tank. When I bought the bike it had a Shoei fairing on it, and the front turn signals were removed, rewelded... I've since removed that , put it back to normal...... I love this bike,,,,, but I don't wish to DIE with it. I've emailed, and called my buddy from over 30+ yrs ago, who said if I were to sell it, > He'd want to get 1st CHOICE.....maybe he's dead? I don't know, he/ his wife never answers, don't email me back, don't call me back........ so, I shall sell my beautiful "RACER RED" 1975 Honda CB400F> s/s,............. to someone who: MUST keep it stock, not "CHOP IT UP" / make it some type of cafe racer bullshit..........hell, > it was the "ORIGINAL" of that B/S,,,,,,,anyways!!!

Love the fact that you built yours back to original 💚 and that you are looking for a buyer that will never destroy its genuine character by modding it! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll find someone who cherishes your bike and promises to keep it as it is 😉 Maybe someone on here is interested?!?! Cheers, take care & have a great evening

Great video, and a beautiful bike. But I’m pretty sure that is a 1975 example (based on the serial number at 3:08, and the fact that there were only three model years: 75-77). Also, that style of tank and the parakeet yellow paint with accent stripes were never offered together. By 1977 the tank filler was under a flush-mounted door, not a chrome cap like on this bike. Obviously this is a very well done restoration.

Hi Adam, thank you very much for your comment 💚👍 and for sharing your knowledge on the model series... 👍👍 I have to admit, that you are right 😊. Although the original paperwork for this bike shows, that it had obtained a registration in Germany for the very first time in the year 1978, the major "portion" of this motorcycle must have been manufactured in 1975 according to its frame number. The side panels were repainted, the "400 Four" logos / stickers on those were remodelled, printed and attached during the restoration, in order to give the bike an appearance as shown in a collectors brochure in 1977, which you can find at the bottom of the following article about the restoration process : www.youngtimerbikes.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=1590&p=6278#p6278... Therefore, it would be precise to say that it is a 1975 model which looks like a 1977 model... 😉 Much respect, thanks again & best regards from Germany... PS: your comment was the first one that helped me to correct the title of one of our videos, any help is greatly appreciated 😉😊👍👍

Great bike. My mate had one in the early eighties. Somehow that yellow is the only colour that works on them. The red and blue ones just look bland, but I suppose they are just as much fun to ride.

Thanks for your comment, the bike was tested by a German motorcycle magazine back in 1975, the maximum speed realized was 156 km/h back then... I have not tested the topspeed of this model myself, therefore, it might possibly by as high as 175 km/h - as you pointed out... Ride safely & have a great day

@@bighook9345 Hi Bighook, I did not take that as trolling, so no need to apologize 😉 I am sure that you guys had tons of fun on those bikes back then, thx for letting us get an insight into your personal memories with those classics 👍👍 I am a "1982 model", so the bikes were on the road long before me. From today's perspective I do appreciate both models, the 350 for its tiny 4-cylinder engine, its lightweight and its beautiful 4-in-4 exhaust system 😍. The 350's design also reminds me much more of my first motorcycle, a CB550 Four K... nevertheless, I love the flying banana as well. Cheers & best regards to the US
