Hi buddy great review i am a proud owner of exactly the same colour petrol blue unmolested full history provenance won a trophy 13000 original miles get many remarks on the road & when static she's not for sale man all the best from the UK.
By "bluey" took me (amongst other places) from Adelaide to Mount Panorama Easter bike races 78 & 79. Slept under a bridge and in a hay shed. A boy becoming a man alongside an awesome motor-cycle.
I had the 74 Honda 400four Super Sport as my first bike. I did all the maintenance and modifications. Cafe'd it out along with quite a few other tricks. That bike would do a wheelie with my 225 Lb weight. Stable at 110mph. even though it had an electric starter ( which I used on hot summer days at stop lights) , It never failed to start with the very first kick start now matter how cold. I put 120,000 miles on it before I bought the V-45 Magna and put 130,000 on her, then the Pacific Coast 800 115,000, then the 98' ST1100 with 180,000, then on to my current commuter an ST1300 now at 128,000. I haven't owned a car since 1979. Cold and rain.....I have a rain suit for the 60 miles a day. Weekends are for my 2014 Gold Wing Valkyrie here on the central California coast. I'm now 67.
Best state to own and ride a bike. Lived in central Cal., Been in Idaho too long. Sucks. Have to put 'em away for 3 months. Snow and ice don't go well with bikes. Ride on brother.
My mom has this. Just cleaned up the garage and released it from its prison. 3126 miles and In pristine condition. My dad only cares about money and wants to sell it but I really really want to fix it up and show it some love.
@@BMWAVENTURA I do. I've gotten most of the work done 👍 Carburators just need separated so I can put them in the ultra sonic cleaner. I had disassembled the brake fluid system because the old fluid just Gummed up, it's cleaned up now. Just got to put that back together along with everything else and get new tires then she will be on the road again 😁
@@tejyaich7982 Hello, I don’t know you, but please keep working on that machine. Such a beautiful piece of human engineering deserves to be preserved. What colour is it?
@@GabStLaurent oh I will. It's getting pretty close to being road worthy. It's red. I've got the tank all polished up and removed all the caked rust from the inside. Just need to throw it back on.
@@tejyaich7982 Glad to hear that. I’ve got a CB750 K3 in olive green that I’m restoring with my dad. We got the tank and covers yesterday and it is to die for omg
I had one new in 1975 in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. It was great. A little too small for me, but fast, good handling & totally reliable. I think it fairly comfortably pulled 190kms top speed. Glad I survived those motorcycle years.
I remember back in the seventies when I was a kid, these two brothers in my neighborhood had 2 Hondas like that. both bikes had super loud pipes! they would blast down the street in the middle of the night on their way home from the bars. it used to drive my dad crazy! LOL
I had one back in the day wonderful fun not the fastest but as a complete thing.really enjoyable despite the fact I busted myself up badly on one.i.still.look.at.them.as they go past every time as I am short arse my feet touch the ground nicely.smooth.and oh so reliable.
I own an identical one, love it, here in Brazil was sold as a 1976 model. It is so small yet a pleasure to ride. Here we do not find any mechanics for it, Honda dealers do not accept, even though my bike has no problem whatsoever. I will ride it until I can, which I guess is more or less 30 years, ha ha .
Belgian here: my very first bike, absolutely loved it. I wish I could make a ride on one of these again. Would be great to feel those good vibes again... 🙂
I had the same bike in the same colour in 1978 (I don't see the Blue ones much, Just the Red and Yellow on TH-cam). It was a lovely bike. I put a small fairing on it and quick release locked panniers. I always regretted selling it. That one looks showroom fresh.
Bought one of these (F2) version in bergundy in 1978 for £902. Had it for 2 years, Then changed it for CX500. A wonderfully little bike. Wish I could have kept it. A modern classic.
The seat cover looks like is a new replacement, the original had the Honda logo printed in the rear back. This is one of the most beautiful CB400F , that I ever have seen (well except for a new one that a friend had) I own a 1976 parakeet yellow one, I am in the process of rebuilding it.
In Japan there are lots of them still running like new, it is a cult bike there, some with entirely new brakes, oil radiator, etc. Mine is also in pristine condition, greetings from Brazil!
Gorgeous bike ❤ I had a Yellow 1977 model. Loved that thing. Wreck it and traded it for a 1979 750 F that I never could bond with. Looking back, I wish I had kept the 400. The thing was the perfect size and handled great. I had friend who was a motorcycle mechanic who did a couple of modifications to mine and it would run about 110 mph on flat pavement. The 6 speed was an awesome feature. Great cruising bike, but would run almost as fast as the Yamaha RD 400 which was quite impressive.
I cant remember when I bought the bikes but I had a UK registerd 1975 (p) 400 and a CB750F1 Both IMO were superb reliable machines. (Cam chain on 400 ?) CB750F1 did not match Honda's appearance standards (much better F2 released not long after.) CB750F1 Stripped down and managed to block an oil jet feeding the cam when putting back together. CB400 replaced the knackered cam chain . IMO bike was too small.
Loved my Blue 400Four, took me to the IOM TT in '77. All I changed was the stock Bridgestone rubber (lethal in the wet!) a 750 4 headlight with Cibie lens and Laverda Jota adjustable drop handle bars..
Great review, I had a 76 model back in the day and a blue one identical to this a few years ago, lovely bike. That silencer is not original by the way, there was just a single pipe not the multiple 7 pipe outlet.
I t was my dream bike when I was 12 years old, at the time it seems so big, finally got one identical to that in the video in 2011,. Fortunately I was able to buy a few spare parts in Germany and the US at the time ( nothing big really, just new NOS mirrors , wiring loom, regulator, etc). It is in fact a very small bike, like a toy, but it is a pleasure to ride. My bike is in the same awesome condition, only the muffler is different. Here in Brazil is quite difficult to find proper maintenance service.
Mine.. blue. A screamer. I forget how much it cost, not a lot in 1977. Wowee. I sold it with about 40,000 miles no problem. A collector item. 10,000 RPM 6 speed BABY! I wouldn't say a LARGE gas tank. They way I drove 100 miles max.
Big bro nobody's riden Mr bikes then you bro I luv that motorcycle the Handel of them bikes bro thr the most unappreciated super sports ever I lived one I had was badass bike for my narrow ass I 17
That was my 1st motorcycle. It was a terrific little machine. 26hp I believe breaker point ignition. Adjusted for a good idle it wouldn't make redline so we adjusted it for top speed and a rough idle....

The 400F swept headers made that exhaust one of the best looking exhausts Honda ever made. I call it the Veronica Lake exhaust.

How much did this one go for?
Amazing how Honda motorcycles were hands down better looking in the 70's than this modern grabbage they're putting out now. BTW, great camera work.
that end bafel on the exaust isn't original
Shame that th F1 had pillion passenger pegs on ther swinging arm- which they changed with the F2 - but then it wasn’t provided in the original blue
Honda did make a modern replica, it’s called the cb650f even has the same swept headers ;)
only thing that sucks about honda they still put drum brakes on some of there stuff
Put a fering on it
And remove the stupid mirrors
And you got a racer
The muffler is not original
Nice bike but have you ridden 1.69 bikes every day for 10 years ?? Shit that's a lot of diffrent bikes man
U should drove it back in the 80's,u haven't driven a bike
I'm 71 and most likely rode more vintage motorcycles than you- just saying
That’s not an original muffler sorry, looks like an aftermarket one
