- I got to hang at the Dream Theater soundcheck in Stockholm 2023 and John Petruccis guitar tech Maddy gave me the tour of his rig.
Also sorry for the light situation it was basically PITCH BLACK where the guitar world was placed behind the stage.

Here's some ittle factorids some fans might not know: Petrucci, Satriani and Vai all were born and grew up on Long Island, New York within virtual spitting distance of each other [in John's case for Majesty, add in the superb John Myung as a neighbor]. All three are of Italian-American descent. All three are among the nicest people and the most humble of "guitar gods" to ever walk the planet.
Gear nerd takeaway from this: the OG classics are OG classics for a reason. BOSS and MXR - good enough for Petrucci.
@Caca_Spaniel_123 True. Which brings up another point: guitarists are right now living in the absolute golden age of gear in terms of variety, capability, portability and price.

I love how John still has to read the Boogie manual! I do exactly the same for my Boogies! Always new settings/sounds to discover.
Getting to see Dream Theater AND John's solo tour in 2022 was such a treat. It's a killer rig and sounds MASSIVE live.
Everything about this is so cool, the attention to detail, the guitar-nerdyness, the comradery. Awesome guitar tech and so cool to see Petrucci just hanging around and chiming in on details.
This is like a mini JP documentary, priceless! And your knowledge is impressive Ola 👏 Thanks for this.

This is the best musical TH-cam channel ever.
I love how intricate and meticulous his rig is, and how his gear is catered toward each song in the set. Most artists are just using a generic sound and adding or removing FX as needed for their own songs. Real happy John is able to do this with his rig! Excellent fan service for us haha

The first time I saw DT I ended up mad at them. They opened for Iron Maiden in 2010 in Texas where they only played six songs. It felt like they had just warmed up before "time to go! See ya!" Luckily less than a year later they were back to headline their own show, where they gave us a full set. That show was awesome, and still one of my all-time favorites.
Six DT songs can still be 90 minutes haha

Awesome. Fucking awesome. "He reads the manual of his own amp" cracked me right up. I was thinking the exact same thing and then you said it haha! I love that the CE-2 and 2290 are still two of his main go-to effects, they're both really hard to beat, even with all the toys available out there right now.

I remember actually pre-ordering the JP wah back in the day from sweetwater, and then getting it, spending a weekend in vain trying to figure out all the settings n stuff and trying to make it work in my recording setup, I don't know why, but I think it was the massive throw and the highly specific default settings that really didn't up allowing it to work for me....
And then the thrash caveman in me going "wtf dood just send the thing back" and thus the Kirk Wahmett Pedal came home to stay instead ever since. Love my Sweetwater Sales dood.
