    Nice insight into how to make friends & find others with shared interests . Pattaya/Jomtien attracts a different demographic to say Chiang Mai who are far more adventurous & proactive .
    Your positivity is uplifting

    Hey brother I have to say you’re a cool guy man! Hopefully you’ll find and make friends just as nice as you brother! If I make it out there I’ll definitely hit you up and you can share more of what makes being there so awesome. I played D&D back in the 80’s, but not since lol. Remember it being pretty cool. Didn’t realize it was still popular!

      Thanks brother! D&D has had a huge resurgence in the last 5-10 years… it’s bigger now than ever. Definitely hit me up if you make it out this way!

    Pete, about making your videos shorter. Try to aim for about 15 minutes in duration. That allows the TH-cam algorithms to clump in their ads, thus opening the door for profits at your end. It takes time though but your channel is growing rapidly. All the best!
    Cheers.
    I’ll be there someday and will try to meet up with you.

      Most of my videos naturally fall into the 12-14 minute range. My friends video was running at 25 minutes so I chopped it in half, added a new outro and new intro and made 2 videos out of it.
      Thank you for the well wishes and I’m always happy to meet more people. 🙏🏼

    Good to know-as I'm moving to Jomtien in October. Visited Thailand April 12-May 7, and am back now. I met a few ppl 1st trip (TH-camrs, former US military, barber shop, already had a bud in Bangkok who as a child, lived in my DC neighborhood- though he moved out before my parents bought- so we'd never met)

    Hello Pete.
    Great video again.
    I love the cliff hanger.
    I would agree, it is possible to make bar-girl & bar-guy friends. In my case, my closest bar-guy Thai friend is taking care of my Jomtien condo while I am in Europe. He pays the monthly utilities for me, stops by my room once a week to make sure all is ok, and arranges with my cleaning ladies a once a month cleaning. He has been truly great and loyal.
    So, I encourage you to make bar-girl friends - they are humans like us.

      I don’t want to spoil the cliffhanger at all but it’s not too much a secret that I have some friends at my local bar. They are absolutely people and just like every other group of people there is no single type or description that can correctly describe them all. Hope you’re time away is treating you well my friend.

    Nice job, Pete. Yes, groups are the way to make friends, whether in our home country or when we move abroad. When I lived in the US, it seemed all my friends were just parents of my kids' friends, who faded away when our kids grew up. It wasn't until I got really involved in tennis that suddenly I had a lot of great friends from that group. No D&D for me, 555. But same theory.

    Pete, some time ago, you mentioned an idea to learn about the stray soi dogs.
    I would say, change that idea to instead organize outings and fun encounters for us "stray" soi ex-pats.
    You would be VERY successful as you are truly a down to earth fun sincere guy!!

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a great idea. I’ve started to consider doing something like that… it’s not something I could take any money for doing without a work permit and visa but it’s something I may try a hand in down the line.
      My soi dogs video is still in the works… just hasn’t been the priority. I have the next 5-6 videos already planned out and I know more things will come up.
      Had lunch with a lovely viewer today who has a friend down south who takes care of stray cats. Might be going down there for a tour at some point too.

    People play MTG in Thailand?! And D&D?! I'm currently planning my long term stay in Thailand now. Headed over in a month or so. Been debating if I should bring some cards with with me. Being on the introverted side, I've found it difficult to make friends while traveling. Thanks for the tips!

    • @peteonretreat2023
      @peteonretreat2023  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People definitely play both MTG and D&D in Thailand. I’m not sure anyone is playing MTG live in Pattaya though but I think they play at Mr Foxx’s. My friend here has his cards in Chang Mai and plays online.
      There’s lots of gaming going on in the bigger cities though. Thanks for commenting 🙏🏼

      A GoPro Hero 9… one of the worst models to have in SE Asia as they have a problem overheating. If I upgrade I’ll be getting a different brand of action camera.

    Pete, coming to pattaya for a month in march with my wife. Would you suggest staying in Jomtiem or central pattaya? We are actually coming in January for a week and then heading to Vietnam for a month and then back to pattaya for march.

      The city is more fast paced but the red light aspect of it is apparent or prominent in most areas. If you two don’t mind seeing that then the city is better for food options, clubs, shopping malls and weekend festivals.
      If you like things a little quieter (I definitely do) then Jomtien has plenty of food and some bars (even some live music and Thai Elvis) with a much quieter beach scene and is only a 15-20 minute cheap bath bus or bolt ride away from the city.

      While those stories do usually result in heart ache and disaster there are those rare happy endings even with bar girls. Nobody is perfect.

      Not in Thailand unfortunately. Gambling is incredibly illegal here and I wouldn’t even play in a friendly no stakes game. We’re talking years in some of the harshest prisons in the world.
