Thanks for the video - I've only been to Thailand twice but go every year now after divorcing a few years ago. The advice in this video is clear and to the point. Some may say obvious but it's easy to lose your head when coming to Thailand as a newcomer, most of these working girls are pretty stunning and thus easy to 'fall in love' or whatever you want to call it. I'm 62. I've been coming to Pattaya since 2004 after my divorce. I lived in Chiang Mai 2005-2009. I never considered my lady friends in Pattaya as my steady girlfriend. I stayed with girls in Pattaya, but my girlfriends over the years I met in Bangkok or Chiang Mai under social circumstances. All worked jobs, one girl gave up working in a hair salon, and I helped her with an automatic 10,000 baht per month, and I picked up our living expenses. It soon moved on to can you give me 10k to fix it and it didn't stop even after I laughed it off. That's the first time I've experienced such a blatant push for money and it made me drink up and move on.
The girlfriend thing is only practical if you are staying for a month or longer. Unless you plan to make it relatively permanent and stay in Thailand long term, it’s a bad idea. On holiday, just rent her for the number of weeks you will be here, and pay her what she would make working in the bar doing long-time once a day. If you treat her well, you can usually keep the price down. Probably about 5 to 10,000 per week plus meals, etc. If you want a real, long term girlfriend that you have pulled out of a bar, and the two of you have genuinely hit it off, you have to remember that many of them have a kid(s) and family up north taking care of them because one of the noble Thai lads has left them in the lurch. Except for the money, most of these girls would rather have a different kind of job. So be prepared to pony up every month for at least the amount of money they normally send home. Also, consider that if you guys hit it off and commit to something really long term, you are going to have the expense of those kids whether they remain with the grandparents or live with you. It is rare for an estranged Thai father to take any financial responsibility for them.

I think I already know the answer to this question, but just wanted to run it by you.......the key to staying safe in Pattaya is NEVER letting the local girls know I live here, or at least know "Where" I live, correct? This is true. I got picked up in insomnia by a woman (45), not the prettiest, but was ok. Went to my hotel that same night. Next day she cried and confessed to having come to Pattaya 4 months previously and being a freelancer. Left without asking for any money, except for the tuktuk. Next evening she popped by again and we had a good time, dinner, clubbing, aerobics, stayed in hotel. Turns out she had her own car, took me to the beach the weekend. Found me a much cheaper place to stay than the hotel. A week later she moved in! She desperately wanted to start some new career, found a massage course to do. I happily paid for the masseuse course. She was divorced (same as I) has a 21 year old son, but she doesn't ask money from me. I give her money just to be fair and help out, or I'll feel like a right royal cnut. Whenever we go out shopping, it's difficult as I see some nice stuff I want to buy for her, but she says No! She is the sweetest, kindest-hearted woman I have ever known in my life. We been together 18 months. I didn't plan on this, I still don't see it going on forever, but so far, no complaints.

Not all girls are the same I think if they’d been in a bar girl for a very long time it is very difficult for them to change and let’s be honest. While I think you make some very valid points, it’s not all Thai ladies, as a lot of your comments imply (not you). There are many successful and happy relationships with Thai ladies but I would agree wholeheartedly that avoid a bar girl. People may believe they are the one that turned them, that is only true as long as the cash is flowing. I would also add that you have a 99% chance of finding the wrong lady in Pattaya, there are the odd gems out there. When you only in Pattaya for holidays, dont even bother, just fo short time, have fun, go home and dont start chattin on Line with the ladies. living in Pattaya is another situation, you can have company but you have to deal with jealousy, cultural differences, a lady who has no real interest in you and last but not least a constant demand for money.

My girlfriend not only was never jealous, but would share me with her friends and co-workers - don't think this would happen with a western lady.

Hey Webby, small question for you.....I just bought a 1 bedroom condo in Pattaya (incredible place for the money).....yeah yeah I know, I know....Pattaya? I'm 51 years old and have been invisible to American women all of my life because I'm wasn't rich, black, or insanely good-looking. All I'm wanting to do is have fun for the next decade or so. I think I already know the answer to this question, but just wanted to run it by you.......the key to staying safe in Pattaya is NEVER letting the local girls know I live here, or at least know "Where" I live, correct? In other words never ever bring one back to my condo. I figure this is the golden rule, right? With short-time or over-night rooms being so cheap here in Pattaya.....no local lady should ever see the inside of my apartment, right?

I think a problem is some men set there standards too high they might aim for an 8 or 9 out of 10 but back home they will get a 5. So if they are not that picky there might be good heart Thai women middle aged that do not work in bars but for many Farang they will not pass , but I guess it's a man thing most of us men go for the looks women go for success , status and wealth

This is true. I got picked up in insomnia by a woman (45), not the prettiest, but was ok. Went to my hotel that same night. Next day she cried and confessed to having come to Pattaya 4 months previously and being a freelancer. Left without asking for any money, except for the tuktuk. Next evening she popped by again and we had a good time, dinner, clubbing, aerobics, stayed in hotel. Turns out she had her own car, took me to the beach the weekend. Found me a much cheaper place to stay than the hotel. A week later she moved in! She desperately wanted to start some new career, found a massage course to do. I happily paid for the masseuse course. She was divorced (same as I) has a 21 year old son, but she doesn't ask money from me. I give her money just to be fair and help out, or I'll feel like a right royal cnut. Whenever we go out shopping, it's difficult as I see some nice stuff I want to buy for her, but she says No! She is the sweetest, kindest-hearted woman I have ever known in my life. We been together 18 months. I didn't plan on this, I still don't see it going on forever, but so far, no complaints.
Fantastic advice Webby but in all honesty you will never stop guys going there and falling for the girls, you might as well stop the sun coming up. I fell in love with a bar girl on my first visit, tried to marry her later, it all went wrong( surprise) but luckily had a great time and didn’t lose a fortune. However had a succession of friends did the same thing, 4 mates all married bar girls, one got divorced, 2, married older bar mama types and remained married until they died, and one mate married has 2 kids and lives in England. I’ve been married to. Thai lady for 20 years now, though she’s a Thai chef and never worked a bar. So what you say is 100% true, if you can get her out of the bar and say back to Wales you may, just may stand a chance, although as you say you will have responsibility for her family.

Many of these girls know the various holiday seasons for different countries. They know how to have boyfriends that won't clash due to different holiday times. I watched a friend drop her boyfriend off at the airport and with crocodile tears wave goodbye. Leaving the airport I asked my gf why her friend wasn't coming. Oh she has something to look at here and then taking a taxi to see her mum. That evening we were back at the bar in Cha am and the friend turned up with a new bf. She had just dropped one off and picked another up. She sat looking at a small diary working out the next departure/arrival set up. Talk about hunting season. The long inbetween stretch is for the ultra gullible who remain at home sending money across for every excuse in the book. That was way back since 2002 and with my wife passing a few months ago I will never entertain another girl again, no lady nonsense drinks nothing. Take a woman home yes, but no typical bar girls and the set up. Before, I kept away from bars with foam bottle coolers and stuck to Thai bars and restaurants sat at a table, listening to live music and meeting decent people. I would be handed the bill and many times be joined to drink up and take a girl to a Thai night club.
I can not stand entering a bar and being pestered for drinks. It doesn't happen in the Thai places. Learn the language, keep learning and enjoy the true experience. No more family support and the book of excuses although they still ask to borrow money (give) but that's normal amongst themselves anyway. The new single me, round 2 more wiser than ever. Freely roam the bars alone or sit feeding a stranger and her friends, just to collect the foam bottle cooler full of bills. Might as well stand out 7/11 handing out beer, cheaper.

Not all girls are the same I think if they’d been in a bar girl for a very long time it is very difficult for them to change and let’s be honest. They have been through a lot of mental health problems due to the fact that they picked up and dropped on a regular basis. Imagine someone coming along I’m telling you, they love you and spoiling you then dropping you like a stone. As I said not everyone is the same we all different and you can’t typecast people.

These girls should work for CSI - they can spot a single hair a 100 m away and hold it up and declare its not mine - no need for DNA or any microscope to compare different hairs - its a fact!!!! My other pet hate is they don't understand exchange rates - apparently getting lots of baht for 1 pound means that you should be giving them loads more since its lot more in THB than in USD/GBP - not realizing the cost of living is more back home. And they all know the daily price of gold for some reason LOL. Lastly - the expectation that you will need to go along with all the nonsense regarding lucky numbers and all that goes on stops being cute - your place stinking of boiled tuna and weeds sitting in your sink ready for some meal next week - means one thing - pay for short time/long time if you must and then just tip them to leave! Its best way to stay sane!

Freelancers are the same, i got into trouble with one in pattaya, luckily i got rid of her, was just all about money and long game, until i told her that i dont have money and leave me alone, so she left. She didnt want to work, lies over lies, about everything, and full of foreign men on her line with password to access...plus every time i left for a trip she went back to pattaya with an excuse

While I think you make some very valid points, it’s not all Thai ladies, as a lot of your comments imply (not you). There are many successful and happy relationships with Thai ladies but I would agree wholeheartedly that avoid a bar girl. People may believe they are the one that turned them, that is only true as long as the cash is flowing. I would also add that you have a 99% chance of finding the wrong lady in Pattaya, there are the odd gems out there.
