Very cool car! Thanks for the tour. Edmunds says it has 170 hp @ 7000, 145 lb-ft at 5500. May sound low by today's standards, but twelve years ago, turbos weren't as common as they are today. I bet it is a real blast to wind up through the gears.

I miss my 2002 SVT Focus. It was a fun track day and Autocrossing beast. The engine was 170 HP and was tuned by Cosworth. Ford called it the ST170 outside of North America. Fun fact: the big front brakes were from a Transit Van. This one has had the "lunchbox" resonator at the back removed. That "cold air intake" is a hot air intake, they must be down significant HP with that thing. Thanks for sharing that.

Those are 2002-3 wheels...2004 are 6 spoke. If there are seat heaters, it's got the Euro package which includes Traction Control (that can't be fully turned off...best to avoid that one!) Euro SVT's came with 10 spoke wheels so maybe they damaged them and replaced with early ones?
Short-ram intakes make a LOT of noise for very little power gain and actually can hurt the power in hot weather by injesting underhood air rather than cool air from the grille like the stock system does. Put a K&N panel filter in the stock box and you get just about everything there is to be gotten on the intake side.
The big area where improvement can be had (and is needed) is in the tune...which stock is terrible. If you've never driven an SVT Focus with a good tune then you've not had the pleasure of seeing the potential under the hood. Ford put a lot of time and money in all the mechanical bits then had to cripple them with the tune to get it to pass the ULEV standards so it could be sold in CA. I bought mine knowing the tune could be changed and did so after suffering a week with the stock one. I already had the flasher but wanted to explore the stock tune just so I could figure out where it was off...and the Focus Sport (now FS Werks) SCT tune works great! ZED0 is the 2004 code while RLA6 is for 2003 and I've got 93 octane versions of each. Very different power delivery but both really woke up the motor. ZED0 has more torque down low and RLA6 is rowdy with lots of exhaust popping so you can choose what you want.
The other place where power is choked is the catalytic converter. A good high-flow cat and pipe are worth about 5 horsies and even the stock exhaust gets loud without the factory converter muffling it down. VERY under-appreciated car the SVT Focus.

Thanks for making the video! The engine is based on the same old Zetec as the other DOHC Focuses of the era. It does have different heads (bigger valves), variable intake cam timing (same sort of oil pressure based gizmo that the old Escorts had on the exhaust cam), very aggressive cams, higher compression, piston oilers, a dual stage intake, and the exhaust you note. The oil pan is not plastic! Folks should snap these cars up. They are often bargains, but do require some skills and patience to keep running happily.

I kinda want to be different and I saw someone talk about the ZX3 SVT Focus, are they super reliable and easy to work on? Will i find aftermarket parts for them like I would with a civic?

i have both an E46bmw and 03 svtfocus. focus only needed 700 of maintaining over 4 yr vs my bmw that needed 5000 in the same time. i love the bmw but to answer your question... svtf easy to work on and pretty reliable. use great oil and filters!

looks like that SVT needs the plug on the bottom of the thermostat housing replaced its a very common problem with the svt you can see the small trace of coolant leaking in the video....its a cheap and simple fix

I like how you said that could potentially be a classic, in 10-20 years do you think people will be restoring unibody cars such as that and other in the years to come??

Do your research before doing a video.
