Great video brother, Took mine out yesterday, very little space to work, now my concern is to hook the 2 hoses right, i could barely see what I was doing, pretty much by feel. One hose comes from the drive to the pump, the other one goes from the pump to the cooling circuit.
On my case the bottom pump inlet is for the hose coming from the drive, water comes in the bottom of the pump and goes out the top of the pump to the engine.
Hello Thank you for the video. Is it possible to put the impeller in with the blades/fins backwards? Or bent forward or backwards? I do not know the direction the pump rotates. Would you recommend I just take a picture before disassembly? I can't seem to find a rebuild video that explains that issue. Thank you.
Definitely take a photo, there’s arguments that the vanes or fins can go any direction and once you start the engine the vanes will right themselves but I also heard of the vanes not reorient and water not flowing through engine, I’m the kind of guy that like to do it right at first, so I will recommend you to install it the same way it comes off.
Thank you Ray. I did put it in with the blades aligned the same way old one came out. Next time I won't be so nervouse about it. Appreciate your information very much. Took boat out for the first time this year today and it worked 100percent.
When I did mine I used waterpump hose pinch off pliers...Theyre made of ABS plastic and cost $7 bux each at my local AutoZone plus while I had the hose pinched off I added a couple valves to control waterflow on both hoses...
That zip tie idea was excellent. Thank you!
I used a ring compressor for a small engine, it was easy to compress the vanes. Thanks for posting.
Really nice video on this. Thank you for keeping it short and to the point!
Only video like this on youtube!! Thanks for posting!!!
Great video. How do check that the belt is returned to the correct tension?
I always check it by hand, I just make sure it has no more than one inch of play up and down.

It doesn't matter! The Blades will align themselves into the correct position! Do not worry about it!

Is this process relatively the same for the 7.4 MPI?
Great video. Was that an in or out the water repair? My searay is in the water with no sea cock shut off valve.
That was out of the water Steve.

You could try a wood plug on the inlet hose with a zip tie to squeeze the hose to hold
By any chance would you know your serpentine belt part# I have same setup and thiers like 10 belts to choose from
