Great video and a fine display of how good our public transport is in the uk 😉 Seriously, well done both and I have made a mental note of not to Summit with you guys, your fast! 73 Chris M0RSF
Cheers Chris. It was a great day out. I was knackered when I finally got to my hotel at 2300. Ben and I don't hang about when we're on the hill, that's for sure. 😀
Loving the comment about the sheep. We used to have the opposite problem when navigation training in the armed forces. Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains always seemed to be shrouded in mist and low cloud, so we would pick out an object on our bearing and walk to tthat, then pick out another feature and so on. We marched to various cairns for most of the day until the last "cairn" got up and walked away! Anyway, great activation, I'm sure someone will call you "darling" on air pretty soon. Adrian 2E0MXK
This video has been great! I was happy to hear that you passed through Shrewsbury, sad that I was not with you on the trip. The SOTA activation was exciting. I recently moved from South Texas to North Utah. I had many mountains from which to select a SOTA. I need to find a local SOTA group. I’ll look forward to your next video. TNX de David AE4LH

@ryanbeare580 Don't! He sends me a box of Welsh cakes every now and again. They are soooo nice and bad for you. 😁 There is a firmware release for the Quanshend that allows dual side band transmission on 2m. I would have needed a horizontally polarised yagi for that though. Great video, Fraser...your flight looks a lot more enjoyable than the usual airport/plane "experience"! The journey from Birmingham International to Welshpool is one I've done many times, I camp at Severn Farm which is about 5 minutes walk from the station if you turn left on the bridge at the top of the slope instead of right. I have walked from there up onto Long Mountain and had a go at activating GW/MW-026 a couple of times on 2m, but the intermod from the transmissions up there is pretty fierce...next time, I'll try the FT-60. The Welshpool and Llanfair steam railway used to run right past where Ben picked you up...I've ridden the steam train from Raven Square to Sylfaen and walked up to the top of Y Golfa to activate GW/NW-061. Must get up there again soon, its a lovely place. Very impressed with the number of 2m QSOs you both had from Moel Siabod, hoping to get up that way more once we've moved (to Herefordshire). 73, Simon G0CIQ.
There seems to be a few SOTA types in the Hereford area, so you'll be in good company. I was pleased with the 2m haul. I think it was 22 when I actually counted it correctly. Cheers, Fraser MM0EFI
It's RG58. It is part of the supplied antenna. I didn't see much point in swapping it for a low loss type due to loss of flexibility. Anyway, it would make about 0.1w difference over such a short length.
There's a thing called Nordic walking that means your whole body gets a workout. They are good support on rough ground and when carrying a load or coming downhill. You have starred in a previous video!
I use poles when walking, but, I use my left pole (and arm) forward with my right foot and vice versa. The theory being it's like having 4 legs. I put weight on them even on flat ground, I think it adds more aerobic exercise to the walk. I use Pacer Poles, that's how they recommend using them. They also add stability and help for the knees on down & uphill. Plus, I'm 63 and not as fit as I could be (yet) & they do help.
