  • It's often the case that anti-catholic people throw certain verses out with the mindset that they alone destroy the catholic faith. These are the top three that I have heard in my interactions here in TH-cam world and other places.
You're going to have to bear with me in some of my sarcasm here, but I think you will get the idea. Maybe you have others or have heard others. Feel free to list them in the comments, but please be nice. God bless you all!

I agree with you that it's heartening to hear stories of the conversion, i.e. change of religious practice, of many brothers and sisters. This is evidence to me of the strength of the Church's teaching and grounding in Christ despite the many ways we as His followers have fallen short.

Protestants go on the attack with, "where does it say in the Bible ... ?"They will never accept that there is tradition that has been handed down by the Apostles and revealed truth to the Magisterium. Well, since we're playing the verse vs verse - where does it say in the Bible that you can break up a church and form your own church? That's the biggest apostasy right there, all the church splitting. Go all the way back to Church of England and Martin Luther and every time you see a split, someone is following the will of man and not God.

      @jeremiahong248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@nightshade99 of course you would say yes. In the beginning there were letters and epistles written by the Apostles to the various churches they founded. As time goes on, more and more Christians wrote their own letters and epistles. By AD 400, there were so many floating around that the Catholic Church met in Councils to filter through and decide which are legitimate inspired Word of God, which are apocrypha and which are false. The Catholic Church decided on the canon of the bible, both the NT and OT. The Reformation agreed with the Catholic Church thr canon of the NT but decided against thr OT preferring to adhere to the OT. canon decided by Masoretic Jews.
As for the NT, the Catholic Church wrote the NT, because the writers were the Apostles who obtained their teachings from Jesus. They passed down these teachings to the Early Church Fathers who passed down these teachings and the correct interpretations of which to the Catholic Church of today.
It is Protestants who had heretical interpretations of the bible. Because the Early Church Fathers didn't have Protestant beliefs.
In any case the Protestants accepted the decisions of the Catholic Church by accepting the canon of the NT. The CC decided which letters and epistles are truly the inspired Word of God and which weren't. Could the Church be wrong and missed out any legitimate letter ? Could it be wrong in allowing a false letter be included in the NT ? No. Because it has divine authority back by heaven given by Jesus in Matt 18:18

@@nightshade99 God protects His Word by teaching to His Apostles whom He has commissioned to preach the Good News
All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. (Mat 28:18-20)
The Apostles were also given the divine back authority to bind and loosen in Matt 18:18.
They were guided by the HS to write the Scriptures. Thus they knew the meaning of what they wrote.
All the above means the Apostles knew the correct interpretations and teachings of Jesus. They passed this down to the next generation of bishops, deacons and presbyters they ordained. And they, to the next successive generation till today. Every Catholic clergy can trace their ordination back to the Apostles. The teachings and rightful interpretations of scriptures is this preserved.
Unless Protestants where each is their own Pope and own interpretations of scriptures.
I have personally witnessed my Bible Presbyterian friend arguing with my Charismatic friend whether the Age of the Holy Spirit has ended. Both adhere to Sola Scriptura, both quoted from the same KJV but arguing from diametrically opposite positions.
This is the problem of Protestantism. Each is their own Pope, spawning a myriad of personal, heretical interpretations.

God bless you Keith. Years ago a dear friend saddened me when she questioned me about things that we do as Catholics. She is a strong Christian woman and those questions came out of no where, her thoughts about it and how she approached it really surprised me, because I’ve never heard her criticize anything in that way like we as Catholics are wrong and basically made fun of Mary and the saints. I love her so much and always accepted her faith but never would have thought she would talk down about mine. I grew up in the faith where 85-90% of my island is Catholic, so that is all I knew my whole life. I went to mass and religious education my whole life but could not defend myself when those questions came up, I’m not very good at explaining. My heart always knew our church is the one true church and my parents always told my siblings and I that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, everything else I couldn’t explain about the saints, why do we sit, stand, and kneel, and memorize and recite the mass etc. This video has really helped me understand those questions even further, thank you! 🙏🏽🙏🏽

That is not complicated, it's clearly specified that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that. My brotherly advice to you is run to Jesus while you still can and will safely rest in peace for he alone is the Savior and is still alive, but as for Mary the blessed mother is dead and so are the saints of old sleeping waiting for that great day of resurrection. It’s always so fascinating to me to hear your previously Protestant point of view. It makes the disconnect so much easier to understand.
It isn’t helpful for me to have been raised in a completely and deeply theologically Catholic point of view between home and school. Catholicism has always been extremely rational to me because I was a very “but why???” child and my parents always explained the why’s and wherefore’s, as did the nuns who taught me. It was never “Because we say so!” A reasonable and compassionately human logical reason was always given.
I did study comparative religion in high school and college, but again I was approaching it from an entirely Catholic perspective. It was very difficult to understand how there could be what seemed to me completely out of context and illogical deductions made from the same scripture I’d been raised on.
You’re perspective of both sides of the debate has deepened my understanding and improved my ability to have patience and love when discussing theology with Protestant brothers and sisters.

So I grew up in a Protestant home, I went to Anglican churches and more charismatic churches for some years. I am now settled in a Bible focused Presbyterian Church that teaches the Word of The Lord faithfully and I have grown so much in my faith over the last two years. I have never ever considered Catholicism before, but after going to Mass followed by a talk at the Catholic chaplaincy last week, I can't ignore the pull that I'm feeling to find out more. My faith is everything to me and I want to love and serve God as much as I can, and seeing how much praise and devotion there was to the Lord during Mass has really ignited something. I am scared and overwhelmed by all of this as I worry that as a Catholic there isn't full assurance of your salvation and reading up about the necessity of the Reformation due to unbiblical practices in the Catholic Church (e.g. paying money to get out of penance) has confused me. I love my Church and I feel spiritually nourished when I go there, but I just can't shake this feeling. A lot of my friends are well read theologically and spend a lot of time looking into the context of passages and the history behind it, so why is it that they have theologically convictions that contradict Catholic beliefs/practices?
I have been watching Protestant to Catholic conversion testimonies and Catholic to Protestant conversion testimonies and both sound very convincing. Protestants would say Catholics take verses out of context but then Catholics would say that Protestants do, this is unsettling for me.
I want to ask more questions as this is something I've never explored before, but a lot of my Christian friends will worry for me and I'm just feeling very confused. If anyone has a similar story or has book recommendations I would love to hear them

When it comes to the "who is taking scripture out of context" question you need to look at the root of it: Who has the Authority to teach what the Bible means?
Protestants generally will say the Holy Spirit will guide me into truth, so all I need is the Bible... well after 500 years of that we see the results are a thousand different ideas with loads of disagreement about simple questions like "What must one do to be saved? or Does Baptism save you?" The Holy spirit is not a spirit of confusion.
Catholics have tradition and the magisterium along with the Holy Spirit to guide us. We have the writings of the students of the Apostles... these are the people who were taught by the original disciples of Christ. These people were taught and given authority to teach by the Apostles.
I would recommend Catholic Answers podcast or youtube channel.

Catholics are so blind. They will believe anything their priest, bishop or Pope, or even some apologist tells them.
It's obvious Catholics pray to objects made by the hands of men. They worship a piece of bread fashioned by the hands of men. Keep on reading John 6 (61-65) and you will find out that Jesus is in Heaven; moreover, you will learn about the Spirit versus the flesh from the words of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Keith tells his minions to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Have you ever read 841, the "Church's relationship with the Muslims" that states "the plan of salvation also includes...in the first place...the Muslims?:
Really??? The Muslims who deny Jesus Christ of Nazareth as the Son of God. The Muslims who deny Jesus' death and resurrection for the "sin of the world" (John 1:29) and who also deny Jesus as the Creator also have been granted salvation by the Catholic Church?
Speaking of blasphemy, the Catholic Church says God's "Sacred Scripture...cannot stand without" Rome's "sacred Tradition" or its "Magisterium" - i.e. the Pope and his bishops. And they, the Magisterium and sacred Tradition also "contribute effectively to the salvation of souls."
Really??? What did Peter say about the "name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth" and "no other name given among men under heaven" concerning "salvation" in Acts 4:10;12?
Flee from Catholicism before it's too late!!!
"It is clear therefore that, in the supremely wise arrangement of God, sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture and the Magisterium of the Church are so connected and associated that one of them cannot stand without the others. Working together, each in its own way, under the action of the one Holy Spirit, they all contribute effectively to the salvation of souls."(CCC 95)

John 19:28-30 "So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit."
Catholics believe there is more they need to do than believe in Jesus for salvation.
Catholics set out to establish their own righteous via the sacraments, communion, confession. A Christian knows that we all fall short (Romans 3:23) Therefore me adding anything of my own to the finished work of Christ is in effect denying what he accomplished is enough for my salvation.
Catholics will be among those in Mathew 7 21:23 attempting to establish a justification for their salvation. Not doing the will of the father which is (John 6:39-40) "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."

I did the same thing each time you buried the dead”. Thats why for me Intercessory prayer is true. God is about family and even sent Jesus to be our brother literally. James 5:14” the prayer of the righteous person is powerful and effective”.

Brother Keith, You were instrumental in my conversion to Catholicism and I've followed you from the start of my conversion. PLEASE do a video on the cultural differences that divide Catholics and Protestants in America. I think everyone, including Scott Hahn and Steve Ray overlook this important aspect. My family is from the Bible belt and there was so much Baptist culture inbred in me that converting to Catholicism was much more of an uphill battle within my family. I think you understand this. Protestants are used to Sunday school, Wednesday business meetings, potlucks, contemporary music, and full emersion baptism. Catholics, on the other hand, are into fish fry, Bingo, the Rosary, Adoration, and it's all about the Mass. The letters in Red could actually say "Be Catholic" and my father, the Baptist Deacon would not budge. I think it's largely because of the culture of the Catholic Church. You touch on this in your Convert's Guide to RCC, but I would love to see some videos discussing this.

The argument for Exodus 20:4 is not only in the commandment itself but in the fact the Roman Catholic Church modified and then removed it from their Catechism!
If idolatry was justifiable, why remove it from the Catechism?
Catholics are lost because the Church has led them astray!
In Matthew 4:1-11, Jesus resisted the temptations of the devil by quoting Scripture three times, saying “It is written” (v. 4, 7, 10). He did not appeal to any other authority, but relied on the written word of God as his weapon and defense.
In Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus affirmed that he did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. He said that not the smallest letter or stroke of the pen would disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. He also warned that anyone who breaks or teaches others to break the least of the commandments would be called least in the kingdom of heaven. He showed his high regard for the authority and permanence of Scripture.
In Matthew 15:1-9, Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the teachers of the law for nullifying the word of God by their human traditions. He quoted Isaiah 29:13, saying “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.” He exposed their hypocrisy and their violation of the first commandment by elevating their traditions above Scripture.
In Matthew 22:23-33, Jesus corrected the Sadducees, who denied the resurrection of the dead, by appealing to Scripture. He said, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (v. 29). He then quoted Exodus 3:6, where God said to Moses, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” He argued that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living, and that the Scripture implies the resurrection of the patriarchs. He demonstrated his knowledge and interpretation of Scripture, and its relevance to the doctrine of the resurrection.
In John 5:39-40, Jesus challenged the Jews who searched the Scriptures, thinking that in them they had eternal life, but failed to recognize that the Scriptures testify about him. He said, “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” He revealed that the ultimate purpose and goal of Scripture is to point to him, the source of eternal life.
In John 10:34-36, Jesus defended himself against the charge of blasphemy by the Jews, who accused him of claiming to be God. He quoted Psalm 82:6, where God called the unjust judges of Israel “gods”. He argued that if those who received the word of God were called “gods”, how much more could he, whom the Father set apart and sent into the world, be called the Son of God. He said, “If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came-and Scripture cannot be set aside-what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world?” He affirmed the truth and authority of Scripture, and its witness to his divine identity.
These are some of the things that Jesus said about Scripture. He showed his respect and submission to Scripture, his understanding and application of Scripture, and his fulfillment and confirmation of Scripture. He also taught his followers to do the same, saying, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).
Exodus 20:4 (LSB): 4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

@@beatrizfernandes4695 In the Bible we cannot find the word "bible" either. What is your point? In fact, there wasn't a Bible as we know it today until the very end of the 4th century when the Catholic Church determined, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Canon (list of books) to include as divinely inspired. What did the early Christians do without having Bibles to rely on? Most were illiterate anyway. They relied on the words and traditions handed down from the apostles to the first priests, bishops and popes! They went to Mass (usually in secret or underground), which had a very similar structure to the Mass we still celebrate today. Remember, Jesus taught, spoke and did more than can be held in all the books in the world and some of that was retained by his apostles and disciples and passed down from the very beginning.
