    Correction for one of the computer in the charts it is supposed to be 14MBP M3 8/10 16GB 512GB instead of 13MBP M3 8/10 16GB 512GB. It is a 14" MBP M3 not a 13" one. But you get the idea.

    Awesome job, and thanks for diving into M3 Pro! One thought... not sure how you would do it, but an annotation on memory pressure (green/yellow/red) for each run would be very interesting... clearly you can't test every RAM configuration, but knowing where paging/swapping kicked in would be helpful. But even without this it was great... thank you!

      @@ArtIsRight Thank you for the clarification... looking back, I think I was confused by your comment for Photoshop Medium (at 22mins) that "once you increase the memory in the system things do run faster"... looking back I think you were referring to the "70%" and "90%" numbers(?), which I didn't understand (I'm not a photographer).

    Excellent review. The 14" MBP M3pro is exactly the machine I was considering, so I appreciate how you clearly laid out in your analysis section the suggestion of depositing $200 dollars towards upgrading the memory to 36 GB instead of using it to upgrade the core from 11 to 12. This was exactly where I had uncertainty in my decision regarding the configurations. Your video nailed down exactly what I needed to know to select the perfect machine for my needs. Again, great info for decision process on what MBP to purchase! During the Apple Scary event, they mentioned the GPU utilization with Dynamic Caching. What is your take on how that may effect LRC and PS performance if/when Adobe optimizes to take advantage of the GPU on the M3’s?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would be interesting, that really just utilizes the memory, but the cores are already being used right now in the task. I don't think we'll see much by ways of improvements, may be, if anything, just a touch. But remember too that older machines that used to be really fast like the M1 Ultra is now a touch slower with the current OS and apps on the market.

    Thank you for your thorough comparisons. Recently discovered your channel and it’s fantastic.
    Just a note, from the description and at the start, I thought you were initially talking about the actual base/lowest spec and priced MacBook Pro 14” which doesn’t really have a pro chip and only has 8gb Ram. I know you wrote the cpu/ gpu specs but I didn’t even take note of them - just read ‘base’ and assumed you meant the 8gb Ram version. Perhaps it would be a good idea to write or say “not the m3 pro with 8 gb ram that costs $1599 usd”. I think some people may be completely unaware of all the different m3 machines & importance of all the specs- specifically the Ram.

      @@ArtIsRight Hey Art! Your channel is the best for comparisons by far. Should have 200k+ subs in no time. Can I ask your advice? I’m going to start a youtube channel myself and will do some video editing. Mostly 1080p and probably 30 min max videos, but some will be 4k. Right now my machine is an M1 Mini 16gb. Will this machine do ok with Adobe Premiere Pro? I was debating keeping it or upgrading to either: 14” Macbook Pro M3 Pro 11/14, 14” Macbook Pro M3 Pro 12/18, 14” Macbook Pro M3 Max 14/30 (all of these would be 36GB 1TB), Mac Studio M2 Max 12/30 64 GB Ram 2TB (same price as most of the macbooks due to no screen, keyboard, etc).
      Out of those 5 options, what do you recommend?

    Great review. Really detailed. Maybe 14 inch M3 pro is better value in a way but I wanted a 16" M3 pro because of screen size and space black finish. I didn't then consider 14 inch M3 Pro. The M2 pro was a very good model for my Mac mini so that highlighted the value proposition of the pro chips for me. I so some light photoshop and graphic layout work.

    Hi ArtIsRight - I have seen lot of TH-cam channels but your approach to analyze multiple configurations is awesome. My needs are pretty simple - I do financial modeling using excel with data tables, macros and formulas which are volatile like - offset, lookups etc. I don't multitask..just safari with 2-3 tabs, Apple Music and teams for calls and pdf. I intend to buy MBP-M2Pro-12C (8C+4E) with 16GB or MBP-M3Pro-12C (6C+6E). Not sure which one is good..I think having more P-cores will help. Can you please advise ? Thanks a lot. Manoj

    So I have a pro question I’d like to get your thoughts on:
    For those of us working with many high res images in Lightroom Classic, the most critical speed bottlenecks are the executional ones: e.g., instantaneous viewing of the high res image as you flip from one image to the next, followed probably by instantaneous execution of brush masking etc. These are operations that involve a lot of rapid back and forth interaction between the human and the machine.
    Exports and imports where the computer is working on its own are less of an issue, as we can organize our paperclips or argue with our spouses about the price of a new wildlife lens while the computer works. 😀
    What would you say is the order of importance on which spec to ramp up for those interactive executional functions?
    Cheers and thanks. 👍

      I would always choose making your time as efficient as possible, since the computer can do what it does while as you say, do something more constructive with your time. Whether that’s possible who knows, I think that’s where AI comes in. I’m a canon DPP user and beginning to use Lightroom, Photoshop and Premiere and the M series chips really do smoke the previous i5 MBP 2014 13 inch I used

      I'd also be curious to know how much the configs differ in this regard as this is where I noticed limitations on my 2020 M1 16gb the most. Using the clone stamp tool can be painfully slow on high res images. Click an area to remove a spec of dust, wait several seconds for it to clone out, click the next spec, wait several seconds, etc. Same thing with brushing/masking it can begin to lag significantly.

    • @bladerealm124
      @bladerealm124 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mvp_kryptonitehe's saying these are the tasks where you wouldn't be doing anything else. You're just working on an image, you click the next image in lightroom, it takes a few seconds to render the full res, then click to zoom to 100%, wait several seconds for the image to re-render, then use the clone stamp tool, wait several seconds for it to clone, etc. If going from the Pro at ~$2700 to the Max at ~$3900 makes a significant difference in these tasks, it may be worth spending the extra money.

    • @tomdearie5165
      @tomdearie5165 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes.
      The key for my work is avoiding a delay when examining images (the pause between showing the preview and the full res image as I move from shot to shot) and avoiding the spinning ball when I’m inputting edits via mouse or tablet.
      I’m about to move from Intel to M series, and am looking to maximize the bang for the buck.
      In every other major platform change since the original Mac (yes, I’’ve been at this for that long), RAM has always been the first priority, with processing speed coming after.
      So far, the testing shows what I would expect: adequate head room in RAM and SSD storage are important in this iteration too.
      But I’d like to get the thoughts of someone who has had hands on experience testing the new platform to confirm.
      Cheers!
      T.

    Firstly, thank you Art! What a deeply considered, useful analysis and presentation. I’ll be getting the M3P 14” 36GB 1 TB.
    My question is about 11 vs. 12 cores vis a vis future-proofing: the difference doesn’t seem worthwhile now, but for those of us who want to keep this machine for 5+ years, might we see a more tangible benefit to 12 cores later? Or is the difference in speed for tasks likely to be essentially the same as now? (Also, will the fan be any more or less likely to kick on depending on number of cores?)

Im doing mostly photo editing simultaneously in Lightroom and Photoshop for retouching (portraits, weddings, product photos), some music playing in background and Google chrome opened too. Im curious if I should go for newer generation for more battery life and less heat since its 14" size, or go for more powerful chip. Is it the same perfomance for my type of use? Or M2 Max will be more powerful? Because I would love to have less heat, less noise from the fans and better battery life but if its less power and better deal overall, I guess I would go with MAX.

The only that worries me is the 512GB SSD on 16", do you think that would cause a bottleneck effect since 1TB SSD's seem to be faster? Do you think that 512GB SSD would in any way hurt better performance on the 16" as opposed to 1TB on 14"? Difference in price is minimal, cca 150 USD

      choose the size that works best for what you need. never mind the SSD size to speed ratio, they are on par, and even if they are not, which they are, you'll be hard press to see any variation on the daily. 16 has bigger battery but then you are carrying that around as well. Better thermo sure, but the performance between 14 and 16 of the same SoC are identical. All SoC are binned, just how much, either way variation between the two is null at best. Like I said, I would choose the size that you need.

Much, much better than nearly all other Mac videos on TH-cam, which are rushed out for views, and effectively just recite the press releases with no meaningful testing - "Oooh Space Black has less fingerprints - Hype!" - I really do not care... Silver will always be the best anyway :)

    I didn't see benchmark of M3P 32G memory vs M3P 18G memory, but you recommended to upgrade to 32G memory instead of upgrading the M3P SoC, why?

    Sir, what would you recommend
    14MBP M3P 11/14 32 GB 512 GB OR 14MBP M3P 12/18 18 GB 512 GB ?
    Main usage for video editing with premier pro, Da Vinchi and after effects.

    Finally, your stats help me decide. I was half hearted between MBP 14" 12/18 - 18gb / 1TB vesus MBP 14" 11/14 - 36GB / 1TB
    I've been researching for days now and the numbers you showed doesn't really justify the SoC difference of 12/18 vs 11/14
    I'm gonna get more ram then :)

    Yeah So I bought the m3 14" pro with 24 gb or Ram. I am moving from having a 15" air. I miss the form factor of the air and the size. the 14" feels small on my lap I find myself leaning in looking at it. The screen is beautiful but I'm struggling to adjust. That being said, I'm considering returning it and getting the base 16 MBP, my concern is going from 24 gb of ram to 18gb of ram, I do see my 14" get up to 20gb of used memory in the activity monitor some times. It seems like the CPU/GPU and SSD will all be quicker on the 16" m3pro but I'll lose 6gb of ram, Should I be worried about this? Or do you think I'll be ok with the 18gb of Ram if I make the switch? (I am mainly running lots of browser tabs, apps and Canva)

      side note even though I do see 16-18gb of ram used alot of the time it is always in the green on my current 14" with 24 gb

    Which would be better to go with m2 pro MacBook Pro 14 vs MacBook Pro 14 m3 16 gb also is it worth spending more money for the m3 pro vs the m2 pro.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you can save money on the M2 Pro which you can somewhat do that now. or even better yet get the 14 M2 Max from Costco for about 2K right now that is a great deal. But in general I would go with Pro SoC vs non Pro. And regarding M3 Pro vs M2 Pro, the variation is small, so If you can get a better spec M2 Pro, i.e. more memory/RAM, SSD then I would go with that

      better, surprisingly, not much about it. the software as we have time works better on the 11 than the 12 at this point

    My wife in not a creator but she is using MS office apps daily and statistics analysis apps like Stata and Spss. And normally she works with 10+ tabs open and pdfs. Is 18gb of ram enough for her or should she upgrade as I rarely see anyone benchmarks with such apps if not never.

    Art thank you again
    I have a direct question for you, and if you could answer this with a fine point that would allow me to make my decision to buy my computer finally
    I’ve asked this multiple times, but you’re different tests and chart results are still making me hesitate.
    LRC, Adobe Photoshop some of the times with plug-ins, and also special effects software Nik etc.
    I understand about your point about the 14 inch versus a 16 inch I am not traveling nor will I be traveling
    Just to my house upstairs and downstairs or in the backyard that’s it
    I need the real estate visually because of eyesight I like the larger screen
    QUESTION: Please- Your Answer will allow me to finally finally buy the Laptop this week
    16” 36gb (upgrade reason only for Ram)
    M3Pro
    VS.
    Next jump up
    16” M3 Max Base model
    On your chart you show GOOD for LRC in the M3 pro where best or better would be the max
    WHY? what major differences are we gaining to go to the max for LRC?
    What is driving me crazy from seeing your tests the max base 16 inch is that much better in LRC versus the M3 pro 16 inch?
    What lets it warrant a Better vs Good in chart
    Could you please address those two Models versus each other what you gain speed wise to justify the jump in price to the base max in the 16 inch laptop? PLEASE
    Art
    This is the ONLY thing keeping me from deciding

      And here’s where I go crazy originally you said the
      “MP3 Pro Would be be fine”
      Now you’re saying the base max for what reasons the base max versus the M3 pro 32 GB please that’s what I need to know
      In a couple of comments, your observations of what I would gain from the M3 base max over the M3, pro 32 GB?

    • @JeffAlanWolf-ij3ls
      @JeffAlanWolf-ij3ls 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I absolutely trust and respect you aren’t. I’m just trying to see from you observations of why? Why the M3 Max base versus the M3 pro 32 GB? What am I getting so I can justify the price jump
