    So I did email this video to Hornady and their customer service department. They said that this Lot number was safe but it ran a little hot. And they were kind enough to send me a Hornady hat!

      For 155, 1200 is typical for .40. Hornady probably just screwed up the boxes. No doubt they usually overstate their cases; this time understated.

I personally know several dozen people that had correspondence with Hornady, telling them that their loads were to slow for the 10mm and others, and that they were going to stop buying Hornady ammo since if you could always count on it being slower than advertised they couldn't trust their lives to a weaker than advertised round!!!

It's tough to find a company these days make so many different products with such constant high standard for quality and precision. @@AlaskanBallistics I liked my G29 with the +2 mag extensions, but when my state passed a 10 round mag limit, I had to use a dremel to undercut the trigger guard to maintain a good grip during rapid fire of proper 10mm rounds. 10 minutes of grinding made a huge difference in handling. Definitely more recoil than the G30 with .45ACP IMO… And of course the 30 gets the benefit of the extension from the 10 round mag length. I think the 10mm feels more like .45 Super.

    I always liked XTP bullets , that velocity is right up there with the 'old ' FBI round. I would really like to see velocity results from a shorter glock barrel and maybe same ammo but different lot, once I got some factory 357 ammo from a well known co. It was hot , flattened primers , back of trigger guard bit my middle finger but old N Frame could take it . I weighed the powder charge 21.5 gr - called factory they said send it back . @@hk93shooter yeah you gotta have that hefty spring otherwise your extreme spreads will be huge, especially in a glock. Even buffalo bore mentions this on their website. Which I've noticed over the chronograph myself. Even if you did shoot maybe not this load, but anything fairly close to nuclear then you'd find that the spreads are well over 100 fps. The glock just unlocks abit early with super hot loads, but up the spring weight abit and that extreme spread will drop to under 30 with nuke loads.

This may sound off to you all up north .. what about the 200 gr XTP ?? The XTP has a more rounded point & less likely to jam ?? It may be a JHP , I have shot 175 gr Silvertips into thick steel & they made very large holes . I don't see them bouncing off a bear head ( 200 gr XTP ) .. I have never tried ?? Any thoughts on the 200 gr XTP ?? If I didn't trust the 10mm VS bear .. I would likely carry a 7.5" ruger Redhawk with 270 gr JHP or 300 gr XTP or 300 gr cast performance .. with the G20 as a back up . Thanks

      Why go with 200gr hardcast from Underwood, the coated stuff. Fed well, went through empty propane bottles and 6 water jugs i think.
      While an xtp is probably better than most, for big Grizzlies, you want a hardcast or bonded fmj. Flat nose.
      That 220gr hardcast requires new springs and a fully supported traditional rifling barrel. Wouldn't surprise me to have a jam or two

      40 by far... sight radius is better, the longer barrel gets sometimes a significant increase in velocity. And the recoil impulse is much smoother. That heavy slide going forward really tames it. Love the g40.
      Only a advantage to 20 is the weight in my opinion. Both weigh less than a grizzly on top of you!

      I personally just picked up a G20 Gen4. I own a Glock 24 6inch, and while the accuracy is impressive, the extra length makes the gun really impractical for anything other than hunting or plinking. IMO, the G17 and G20 are still Glocks flagships, you'll never have a problem hawking them for close to your purchase price if you ever grow tired of it.

      @@AlaskanBallistics If you hit it in ANY vital area. Do you really think a bear's organs are 2ft from the skin?
      The reality is that almost any caliber will kill a bear if you hit the vitals, and any caliber will be completely ineffective if you don't hit the vitals.
      You can hit the heart with a 9mm and drop the bear and you can blow right through the gut with a 300 Win Mag and just piss it off.
      In any self defense situation the single most important factor is shot placement.
      Besides, if a bear is charging you, the largest vital target available to you will likely be the head anyway.

    • @AlaskanBallistics
      @AlaskanBallistics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KurNorock bears are considerably thicker and more dense with thicker bones than Ballistics gel and humans. 2ft of penetration in water, gel and such, is going to translate to 12-18" in a bear. The harder the bullet the better the penetration, the more powerful the better the penetration assuming the the bullet design doesn't cause it to fragment.
      Bears have significantly larger hearts than humans and more adrenaline and blood being pumped throughout the body. A heart shot won't stop it in its tracks. You need a central nervous system hit.
      As you've said shot placement is key. This were agree on but your round has to do something when placed in the right place.

    • @KurNorock
      @KurNorock 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlaskanBallistics
      As far as bullets are concerned, flesh is flesh is flesh. That bullet can't tell if it is punching through pig, deer, human, bear, buffalo, or anything else. Bear flesh is not more dense than human or any other flesh. If you get a pound of bear meat it is going to be the same size as a pound of pork.
      I shot a javelina with a 180gr hollow point from my 10mm. Not only did it shatter the shulderblade, it also traveled down over 8in of the spine and shattered the opposite side hip. All in all it turned about 10 inches of bone into shrapnel. In total the bullet traveled, fully expanded, the entire length of the body of the animal, which was roughly 30in to 36in of total penetration, including that 10in of bone. Granted, a javelina is a fairly small animal, but again, flesh is flesh, bone is bone. Some bone is slightly more dense than other bone, but the differences are minimal at best where high velocity projectiles are concerned. There is no such thing as a bullet proof bone. A 9mm will blow right through a 3in diameter cow femur. No reason to think it wouldn't do the same to a bear.
      A grizzly bear's heart is not so large that it can shrug off a fist sized hole being blown out the back of it. "Fist sized hole" you ask? yes. Watch this video. th-cam.com/video/QdB8yo085Sw/w-d-xo.html
      Hell, a bear's heart isn't so large that it can keep functioning even with a bit of jacket fragment through it. Hearts are high pressure pumps. Put a hole in them and they can't build pressure and so they can't function.
      And yes, some animals can keep on moving when their heart is blown to bits, for a short time. But a lot of animals also drop immediately.
      The point being, go for the head. Which means that literally ANY hand gun larger than a .22lr is capable of dropping a bear because despite popular belief, no, a grizzly bear does not have a 4in thick "skull plate", and no, your bullet is not going to bounce off of the skull.
      So in a self defense situation against a charging grizzly, you should be aiming for the head. So why do you need 24 inches of penetration again? You don't. Even if for whatever reason you can't aim for the head, your best bet is to put as many rounds as you can center mass (into the vitals such as the heart and lungs) just like in a self defense situation with a two legged attacker, and in that situation ammo capacity is your friend, not penetration or sheer power. You want as many holes in the bear as fast as you can put them there, because every shot fired is one more chance you hit that spot that drops the bear in its tracks.
